Get ready and mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 28th. It will be a festive night as we gather at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center in Albany for our annual Points for Profit awards banquet. Last year we handed out over 36 thousand dollars in awards to our nearly 30 participating mid-valley nonprofit organizations. The non-profits earned the awards by turning in receipts from our participating business members and points earned by attending our sponsored meetings, our business “on-locations” and other functions. On receipts turned in alone, the Points for Profit program was responsible for over 6-million dollars kept in the local mid-valley economy. This years event will again highlight how businesses and non-profits can partner together for each others benefit. The dinner will consist of delicious prime rib with all the trimmings prepared by Debbie Burks and her crew at Jacopetti’s Catering. Then comes deserts with each table bidding on any number of luscious deserts prepared by the mid-valley best cooks, restaurants and caterers. There will also be a silent auction of dozens of items, trips and gift certificates provided by local businesses and services. All money raised by the auctions stays in the Points for Profit program to benefit the non-profits. Awards will also be handed out for small home business of the year as well as medium and large business of the year. Special awards will be given to volunteers of the year. Those planning on attending and having dinner must make their reservations no later than January 17th. Because of meals having to be planned in advance, there will not be extra plates available on the night of the banquet. Call in your reservations now at 541-791-2901and receive an extra 5-million points to get your new year started right. On behalf of all of us at Points for Profit and High Points...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

If you love good food but don’t want to break the bank, Corvallis Culinary Week is the perfect time to sample cuisine from some of the mid-valley’s best chefs. Corvallis Culinary Week, a celebration of Willamette Valley food and wine, is held every January when the winter is cold and grey. This year’s festival is planned for Jan. 19-25. It’s a great way to chase away winter’s chill with tasty food, said Mary Pat Parker, executive director of Visit Corvallis.” “I love Corvallis Culinary Week because it really focuses on our local restaurants working with surrounding farms for local ingredients,” Parker said. Now in its sixth year, Culinary Week gives visitors a chance to purchase $10 sample plates at a number of Corvallis’ locally-owned restaurants. Among this year’s participating restaurants are Cloud & Kelly’s, which features hearty Irish pub food with a Northwest flair; Magenta, where you can taste creative Asian fusion cuisine; del Alma, a restaurant featuring the flavors of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain; Big River, a downtown favorite featuring local ingredients, known for its fresh-baked breads and extensive dessert menu; Luc’s, a small, eclectic restaurant focused on upscale food and wine; and Fireworks Restaurant, known for its commitment to local foods and signature wood-fired pizzas. During Corvallis Culinary Week, several of the restaurants will feature locally-produced wines from one of 16 mid-valley wineries that make up the Heart of Willamette Wineries. The wines are specially selected and paired with their small plates (wine price not included in $10 sample plate). No tickets are required to attend Corvallis Culinary Week; simply visit the restaurant of your choice all week long and ask for the Culinary Week menu.
