Get ready for county fair family fun.

Monteith Riverpark at the confluence of the Calapooia and Willamette Rivers in downtown Albany is going to be a busy place during the months of July and August. Besides the annual Mondays at Monteith and River Rhythms free concerts presented by the Albany Parks and Recreation Department, the park will also become home to the new Movies at Monteith classic film series, formerly Movies by Moonlight, on select Friday nights presented by the Albany downtown Association. The movies will be projected on a new large 20 x 24 inflatable screen and will allow viewers to bring their comfortable lawn chairs or spread blankets on the grass. ADA Executive Director Rod Porsche says pre-movie activities and concessions will begin at 7PM with each film starting shortly after dusk. The schedule: includes “Frozen” on July 11, “North by Northwest” on July 18, “The LEGO Movie” on July 25, “E.T.” on August 1 and “The Wizard of Oz” on August 15. There is no charge for attending the series. The free Mondays at Monteith concert series will include performances by the group Tempest on July 14, The Albany Swing Band on July 21, the group Concrete Loveseat on July 28 and The Willamette Master Chorus on August 4 The popular River Rhythms free concerts this year will feature John Nemeth and the Bo-Keys on July 3, Patrick Lamb on July10, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers starting at 8:30PM at the Linn County Fair on July17, Trick Pony on July 24, Night Ranger on July 31 and Uncle Cracker on August 7. All of the concerts at Monteith Riverpark begin at 7PM with concessions opening two hours earlier and childcare activities prior to the concerts. Get ready for two of the mid-valley’s best county fairs coming in July. Whether you go for the big-name entertainment, the exhibits, the animals, or the carnival rides, both county fairs promise to deliver a fun summer to remember for the whole family. Linn County Fair July 16 – 19 at the Fair and Expo Center in Albany Get ready for four big days of exciting fair activities! Main stage entertainment happens each night at 8:30PM with country superstar Jo Dee Messina on Wednesday, July 16. Thursday, July 17, you can enjoy Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. On Friday, July 18, another country favorite, Phil Vassar takes to the main stage. Finally. The fair will close out on Saturday night, July19, with rock legends Grand Funk Railroad. All of the shows on the courtyard main stage are free with your fair admission. However, limited reserved seating is available at the front of the stage for an additional charge. Other fair activities include judged fair exhibits in everything from baking to photography, a special ‘Family Fun Zone’ with tons of exciting activities for young and old, special events in the fair and expo arena, a classic car show in adjacent Timber Linn Park, animal judging, all kinds of food vendors, and exciting carnival rides and games for everyone. Special days include Military Day on July 16, Senior Day on July 17, and Family Day on July 18. Admission prices are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 60 and over, and children 12 and under are free. Benton County Fair and Rodeo July 30 – August 2 at the Fairgrounds on 53rd St. in Corvallis This year’s theme is “Country Scenes and Childhood Dreams.” There is so much to see and do at the fair ranging from the ever popular Funtastic Carnival to exciting NPRA Rodeo action sponsored by Wilson Motors. Rodeo performances are scheduled for 7PM on July 31 and August 1 and at 2PM on August 2. Entertainment on the Peak Internet Main Stage includes American Young at 8PM on July 30, David Nail at 8PM on July 31, The Marshall Tucker Band at 8PM on August 1, and Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts at 7 and 9PM on August 2. In addition, there will be nearly continuous entertainment on the fairgrounds including jugglers, magicians, and more throughout all four days. The Benton County Fair is known for its great competitive displays of everything from homemade goods and floral arrangements, to 4-H and F.F.A. animals. You also won’t want to miss the “Walk on the Wild Side” wild animal exhibit and the fun mutton bustin’ competition. Admission to the Benton County Fair and Rodeo is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens 65 and over. Young people, 18 and under, are admitted free every day of the fair, courtesy of Pioneer Telephone Cooperative. Thursday, July 31, is “American Heroes Day.” All seniors 65 and over, emergency responders, active military, veterans, and law enforcement personnel will be admitted free that day.
