High Point University is offering students the chance to expand their knowledge of cinema with the Faculty Film Series, which features faculty-selected films each semester to be shown on campus in the R.G. Wanek Center’s BERTRAM L. PODELL EXTRAORDINARE CINEMA. Films included in the series connect with specific courses being taught on campus during the fall and spring semesters.

1924 Prime and our newest fine dining location Alo proudly host the Life Skills development program titled “Your Professional Brand Series.” Hosted by the Career and Professional Development Office, HPU faculty and industry professionals, the series propels students forward on their professional journey with programing that includes topics like “Crush the Dinner Interview,” “Dress for Success,” “Leadership and Life Skills” and “Pathway to Professionalism.”

RESEARCH ROOKIES As you enter college, you start to consider what major you will choose. Students expect college majors to prepare them for jobs and advancement in their chosen careers, but the major is just a small part of what makes you prepared for the job market. A major may give you specific technical skills for one career path, but college is about preparing you for a lifetime of career possibilities. Thus, it is important to engage in experiences outside of the classroom that will help differentiate you from over 2 million students you will graduate with across the country in four years. One opportunity that stands out as transformative is independent mentored research or creative work. Over 87% of employers say they are more likely to hire and advance recent college graduates who have this experience.

We have a program that will help you get started. Our Research Rookies Program is a voluntary, two-semester program for first-year students designed to help get you involved in the culture of creative and scholarly work at HPU. The program offers students activities, talks, workshops and events that help you get started on an independent project with a faculty mentor in any field! Scholarly and creative independent work helps you develop the broad skills that make you more competitive for any future job you pursue. This experience in college is what will distinguish you when you graduate.
