Over the last 40 years ‘Thru-process’ temperature profiling has been established as an important and standard method for proving quality assurance of the paint cure process by confirming that the product time at temperature complies with the paint cure schedule.
To meet TUS requirements as part of CQI-12 the temperature monitoring system needs to meet specific requirements from a technology, data analysis and reporting perspective.
In addition to product profiling many automotive companies have moved to enhance their quality systems by complying with the coating system assessment CQI-12. This assessment includes comprehensive control , documentation, and quality management of the complete coating process applying to many different coating applications (Process Tables). A critical part of CQI-12 is a strong focus on a pyrometry certification of the oven technology used to cure coatings. Unlike product temperature profiling the focus is given to proving the accuracy and uniformity of the heating technology to provide the target cure temperatures for each coating at defined program settings over the oven working volume. To achieve such pyrometry certification a Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) needs to be performed, as applied routinely in the heat treat world in CQI-9.
Thermal View Finishing software has been designed specifically for product profiling in paint applications to convert raw temperature profile data into meaningful information. The software is designed with all the analysis and process documentation tools to fully interpret and communicate paint cure performance. Graphical cure tools including
