Fitzgerald writes to Helen [Thompson?]: “’The Sahara’ will reach me - or ‘Sheik Fitzgerald - Africa....’” The Fitzgeralds travelled to North Africa in February 1930, shortly before Zelda’s first breakdown. First Latin edition of The Dialogo, Galileo’s exposition and advancement of the Copernican system. Notoriously placed on the Vatican’s list of outlawed books, “the Dialogo, more than any other work, made the heliocentric system a compliance.” (PMM) This translation contains two important appendices by Kepler and Foscarini concerning the debate over the compatibility of the theory of the earth’s movement with Scripture. Bernard Shaw”), on letterhead, to unknown recipient, concerning a character in one of his works, April 10, 1929. The card discusses the case of a poor young mother’s choice to give her baby to a wealthy woman. He writes, “The girl is lucky enough to have a healthy baby. She is ignorant enough to think that it would be for the baby’s good to sell it into ‘a wealthy home where it would be loved as an only child and petted and cared for and given every chance.’ She evidently knows nothing of such unfortunate children.” 4 1/2 x 7 inches. $200-400
