Genetic Evaluation Statement
Santa Gertrudis Breeders International’s genetic evaluation is one of the most comprehensive among the Bos indicus influenced breeds, ensuring profitable genetics can be selected for your operation. Over the past 8-year period, Santa Gertrudis breeders have increased selection pressure on traits that have a positive influence on profitability. Profit starts with a live calf and increases when industry end-point targets are hit. Regardless of your marketing strategy, selling by the pound at weaning, retaining ownership and grid-marketing, establishing a consumer direct market, or taking advantage of the replacement female market, Santa Gertrudis genetics ensure that herd goals can be reached. SANTA GERTRUDIS are DATA DRIVEN and PROFIT PROVEN.
SGBI EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES
Expected Progeny Differences, EPDs, are the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the SGBI database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure (plus or minus) for each trait being evaluated and are calculated utilizing pedigree and performance information. SGBI is a leader in the adoption and implementation of cutting-edge genetic technology. In 2013, SGBI released the first genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (DNA verified) for Bos indicus-influenced cattle. The inclusion of DNA into the breed’s EPD calculations (GE-EPDs) has resulted in information that is more accurate and predicable than a pedigree and performance prediction alone. Currently, the association has access to more than 12,000 performance verifying DNA samples. In addition, to being the first Bos indicus-influenced breed to offer GE-EPDs, SGBI was the first beef breed to implement single-step methodology for the incorporation of genetic information into the genetic evaluation. This approach maximizes use of data reported on all animals throughout the pedigree and greatly improves the EPD accuracy.
SGBI INDICES
SGBI offers three selection indices for cattleman use. Indices are multi-trait selection tools designed to assist cattle producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. Indices provide an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and the calves were exposed to the same environment. SGBI’s indices provide performance insight to 3 beef production business models. The results are reported as a percentile ranking for each index.
BALANCED INDEX:
This index assumes that producers are keeping replacement heifers from the bulls they purchase. It further assumes that producers are either 1) marketing carcasses on the grid or 2) that buyers of their feeder calves base pricing on feedlot and carcass performance. This selection tool is designed to assist cattlemen who retain ownership through the feeding phase or market their calf crop to buyers focused on feedlot performance and/or carcass quality.
COW/CALF INDEX:
This index assumes that producers are keeping replacement heifers from the bulls they purchase. However, it assumes all calves are marketed at weaning or soon thereafter. It further assumes that feeder calf buyers don’t base decisions on feedlot or carcass performance, making these traits less relevant to profitability. Producers marketing their calf crop at weaning, by the pound, would utilize this index when making animal selection decisions.
TERMINAL INDEX:
This index assumes that producers are not keeping replacement heifers from the bulls they purchase. It assumes that producers are marketing carcasses on the grid, making carcass traits relevant to their business. This index fits operations using Santa Gertrudis bulls as terminal sires and retaining ownership of their calf crop through the feeding phase.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Any changes from the information of any kind in this catalog will be provided in a sale day supplement sheet or announced from the auction block and such information shall take precedence over cataloged information.
BREEDING GUARANTEE
1. All animals are guaranteed to be breeders with the exception of: a) calves under 12 months of age; b) animals shown by purchaser after sale in which the guarantee (if any) shall be between the seller and the buyer; c) injury or disease occurring after the sale; d) gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser; e) death by any reason.
2. Any bull which settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by competent veterinarians, mutually agreed upon by the buyer and seller, during any six month period of trial (provided for in paragraph 2 of the section of these sales terms and conditions entitled “Options and Privileges of Return or Adjustment”) shall be considered a breeder. All partial interest bulls are guaranteed to produce freezeable quality semen.
3. Safe in calf females have been examined by competent personnel and are so guaranteed.
4. Exposed females have been exposed but are not guaranteed to be safe in calf.
5. Open females have not been served and are so guaranteed.
PREGNANCY DETERMINATION

OPTIONS & PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT
1. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing within six months of the sale date.
2. In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the seller if in good condition and complying with the health requirements of Texas. If at the end of six months the seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the seller shall at the option of the buyer replace the animal with another of equal value or issue a credit for the initial selling price. If the seller proves the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the purchaser to take delivery of the animal and pay all expenses incurred for transportation.
3. If a bull is sold and at a later date proves not to be eligible for registration under association rules, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer, refund the purchase price or issue a credit for the initial selling price upon the return of the animal to the farm of the seller.
4. If an animal is sold and through DNA is proven to have incorrect parentage as represented by the certificate of registration, and for which the parentage can be determined, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer, refund the purchase price or issue a credit for the initial selling price upon the return of the animal to the farm of the seller.
RIGHTS & OBLIGATIONS
1. The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding on both. Other than the guarantees and warranties stated above, no other warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction.
2. American Marketing Service or any other person connected with the management of the sale assumes no liability, legal or otherwise.
RANCH, YARD, RAIL, PROFIT, PROVEN ™!!!!
In its 170th year, The Birthplace of American Ranching is proud to offer this choice of our yearling bulls. We take pride in the fact we embrace the most cutting edge science and technology to advance our breeding program at the fastest rate and further the influence of the Santa Gertrudis breed both domestically and abroad. Not only do we test 100% of our seedstock herd, but we extend our confidence in the science to our entire commercial herd including the thousands of cattle we feed out annually as well. We focus on breeding and selection centers around traits that will ensure we compete on the highest level in terms of cattle that have fertility, efficiency and carcass quality.
The most notable selection from this offering in the past was the 2019 selection of KR 651/18 “Chosen One”. His progeny raised the bar for %IMF while offering a balanced set of EPD across the board. To say the buyers were able to recoup their investment is an understatement. Shortly after his selection he generated over $135,000 in syndicated semen sales, well over their initial investment.
Here is an opportunity to make a similar investment in a program steeped in tradition, backed by generations of proof and ultimately driven by PROFIT!
King Ranch Inc, will retain 50% semen interest for in herd use only. As well King Ranch Inc. retains the right to approve the name of the bull selected.

Mid- Coast Junior member Payton Calk is excited to offer an impressive coming two-year-old bull sired by the prolific KR 651/18. The "Chosen One" has proven himself within the breed time and again. In fact, 510 times from January 2021 to January 2023. 748J passed his first fertility test at only 14-1/2 months of age. With an actual birthweight of only 64lbs as the first calf of his heifer dam coupled with moderate birthweights among his same- sire peers, 748J should be considered for use on those smaller, more moderate cows that our breed is turning to. Having seen success in the show ring at an early age, this bull has a great disposition and is quiet in the working pens. Polled, sound- structured, terrific breed character, and easy keeping. This bull is also expected to add carcass quality for the commercial cattleman.

CHOICE OF TWO HAND PICKED OPEN "K" MODEL HEIFERS-003K7 is out of the breed changing donor Harris 003/1 who is on the top 25 cow trait leader list for both REA and Marbling. 003/1 tragically died this year so besides a few embryos there will be very few daughters. 003/1 daughters and sons have averaged $21,750 in past auction and private treaty sales for Quail Valley alone. 003K7 was selected for her phenotype as well as her breed leading EPDs and indexes. Please note her ELITE .42 Marbling EPD that of course ranks in the top 1% of the breed, but as well sets her up to be a trait leader when her first calves come. QVF will keep with herd to scan in April at buyers choice.
