A NOTE FROM ELLIOTT STANTON

HOWDY!

Welcome fellow cattlemen and women to our first annual Braford bull sale. As a 5th generation cattle producer, excitement on the ranch has ever been higher, as this event has been in the works since 2020. With our slogan for this sale, “Let us show you what they can do.” Its more than a phrase, we truly believe these herd sires can be game changers for any operation. Braford cattle were created to provide beef producers a quality, consistent and efficient product for beef production. Using Braford bulls on adapted purebred or crossbred cows allows producers to maximize returns and produce excellent replacement females with the Braford maternal edge and hybrid vigor. Brafords have long been recognized for their superior maternal ability. Early puberty, fertility, calving ease, optimum milk production, maternal aptitude and productive longevity are attributes that make Braford females highly sought over. As I write to you today, we are putting the finishing touches on the 2021-2022 show season. With the National Braford Show in Houston, Texas March 3-6 we invite everyone to stop by the booth and see our cattle and share in a good conversation. We have been truly blessed with a tremendous amount of success in the show ring since stepping back in, in 2020. We are pleased to have the 2020 United Braford Breeders Heifer of the Year; and the 2021 & 2022 United Braford Breeders Bulls of the Year on our ranch and a part of our breeding program. We don’t breed cattle to show but we do show the cattle we breed. With that said we believe we have one of the best offerings you can find of breeding age Braford bulls available on the market. Bulls will be fertility tested, guaranteed sound and we will provide free delivery for 500 miles from our operations center in Devine, Texas. We will have select show heifer prospects in the sale not in the catalog at this time along with open and bred heifers. We are ecstatic to announce frozen lots to include embryos from the 2020 Heifer of the Year, GPN CM Sally 0402, crossed with the 2021 Bull of the Year, SR Prime Time 1901. We will also have a lot of embryos from Sally you can purchase and cross with the bull of your choice. Additionally, we will offer a lot of exportable semen from our up-and-coming bull, SR Pick Up Man 2016. All animals will be registered with the United Braford Breeders and World Braford Organization carrying papers from both entities. The Stanton Ranch has been branding cattle in the state of Texas with the -EJ brand since 1909 and it’s something we are very proud of. All animals will be branded on the hip as we are not only selling well balanced and functional cattle but a piece of the family ranch with each lot. Elliott Stanton started the operation in the early 1900’s before later opening up a business in 1922 in Alvin, Texas that included a grocery store. Success is nothing new for the ranch, in 1934 at the Houston Fat Stock Show, George Stanton exhibited the Champion Carload of Hereford Steers both on the hoof and in the dressed beef competition. His son, and my grandfather, Warren would spend time traveling via train car with cattle across the country exhibiting winning livestock to shows such as the National Western in Denver, Colorado. When he was not showing cattle, he was on the ranch overseeing operations of the Hereford program. Warren, along with his son and my father, Allen would incorporate Brahman cattle in the 1980’s to the ranch and be among the first Braford breeders in 1984. They would go on to breed and raise many National Champion Braford Bulls selling them across the world. They made sure my siblings and I were brought through the Texas Jr Braford and National Jr Braford Associations growing up. Our family didn’t go on exotic vacations we went to Braford cattle shows and they are some of the warmest memories I have. I am currently raising with my wife, Ellen, what I hope will be the 6th generation to run the Stanton Ranch. Our children Russell 8, Kenneth 7, and Savannah 3 are still young but very active and involved raising cattle. We have just completed our first ranch expansion moving the owned facilities from Poteet to Devine, Texas. If you are in the area stop by and have a visit. Please feel free to reach out and don’t forget to let us show you what they can do. Regards,

Elliott Stanton

WARREN J. STANTON APRIL 20, 1928 - FEBRUARY 28,2022

Warren Stanton was many great things to a lot different people throughout his nearly 94 years of life on this earth. For me he was my grandfather first, then hero, mentor, best friend and Great Grandfather to my children. There are not enough trees on the planet to turn into paper to write about our time together. Some of my earliest memories are riding in the back seat of his truck across bumpy cow pastures checking the cattle with him and my father. As I grew up the backseat of his truck would become a home away from home. He and my grandmother Jeanette would take me along as we went to Sealy to haul calves to market or to the family ranch in Johnson City as often as they could. Grandma would read Hank the Cow dog from the pages of the Cattlemen magazine as we rode. One of my most fond memories was spending fall break in October with them on the ranch and coming across a cow with a newborn calf, the cow had a case of mastitis that we couldn’t fix. Upon returning home to Alvin with the calf he asked if I would like to take on bottle feeding it to save its life. Sally would go on to become my very first Braford show heifer. When I started showing Grandma and Grandpa wasted no time hauling cattle around the country to various shows. Grandpa driving, grandma in the front seat holding the map and I was right at home in the back seat. Grandma always had a bag full of homemade cookies for the trip. My proudest childhood memory would come in the 6th grade when grandpa would leave for a week at a time to check on the other cows at the ranch, and this time he left me in charge to feed his cows in Alvin. What a big deal I was running the ranch right alongside him. Grandpa’s life was not very scripted he was always on the move. Three things you could always count on, coffee for breakfast, lunch was at noon and we feed the cows at 4. My parents would drop me off after school to help him with the cows each day and he would bring me home, we would talk about school and life and sometimes sports. He instilled in me at a very early age the importance of hard work and dedication. I have always been extremely proud of my last name in large part to watching him, aspiring to one day be just like him. As time went on, I would move from the backseat to the front. He taught me to drive his truck in the pasture and I still remember that day like it just happened. He and grandma would take me to church when my parents were working, he was in fact my confirmation sponsor. I remember asking him if he would do it and being so worried, he would be too busy and say no. He made me into a man, I can only hope to be half of the man he was. My first run at running commercial cows after college he took me to San Saba to purchase cattle in a special in 2009, it was frigid in December and we went through every cow in the sale. When I could get back into the registered Braford business in 2018 the blue print was already there from my childhood. Having a lasting impact on me I would go on to name my first son Russell Warren Stanton to pay tribute to the man who meant so much to me. I did not realize it at the time, he didn’t have to do all of the things he did. From Chasing wild brahmans in the mud or halter breaking calves in the heat. He was a great and wonderful man that we and the world were lucky to have had. Our hope is to honor his legacy, Stanton Ranch is proud to announce the Warren Stanton Memorial scholarship for students pursuing education in the field of agriculture.

He is simply “The Man.” SR Prime Time 1901 is the 2020-2021 Braford Show Bull of the Year and has been Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion at nearly every show he exhibits, including Grand Champion at a very strong State Fair of Louisiana in the Fall of 2021. He is a powerful, clean made, medium framed polled bull. He possesses excellent depth of body, spring of rib and squareness of hip in a neat package. We have used him heavily in our herd and the calves all have those exceptional traits. As proof of it one of his first sons sells in this sale as well. We truly believe he is a one-of-a-kind bull that can vastly improve the Braford breed or any commercial herd with the product he can put on his calves. Whoever buys this bull will be putting their ranch on the map. We are retaining a half interest in semen and selling full possession of the bull.

What a rare opportunity to purchase a proven commodity like Charlie Brown 550G. This bull was the high selling lot in the 2020 Advancing Braford Breed Bull Sale from the Harvey Ranch in Okeechobee, Florida. You probably recognize him from several Braford marketing pieces as his photos are used frequently. This bull is only 2 ½ years old and has miles ahead of him. He worked for us in some of the harshest South Texas environment you can find and put excellent claves on the ground. He is a big bodied, meaty bull standing on good feet and bone. He passes those traits on to his calves, and we have his bull calves in our Bull Development program for next year’s sale. We are offering a few select lots of his heifer calves in this sale as well. With his proven track record of quality and success he can improve any operation on the first calving crop just like he did at the Stanton Ranch. We are retaining half interest in semen and selling full possession of the bull.
