As we embrace the season of change and transformation, we invite you to reflect on the unifying, empowering force of hope. Where would we be without hope? Without positive emotions, how can we feel good and find the will to carry on during challenging times? Without hopeful, mindful visualizations, how can we envision a brighter future and manifest the life we desire? Hope nurtures the seeds of pure-hearted intentions, sowing the grounds for the best possible outcomes for ourselves and our loved ones. When we feel good, we do good and help to make the world a more peaceful place. When the ‘I’ becomes ‘we,’ love and hope win! Hope can help us manage stress, anxiety, and depression to cope with adversity and change. It’s the fuel that drives the actions and determination to achieve our goals and the fire that burns in our souls.
We all have pain
With hope, we believe anything is possible, rejecting fear and worry with the unyielding strength, purpose, and vigor to create a better tomorrow and, ultimately, transform our lives.
But if we are wise
I hope you enjoy this issue and find inspiration in the stories of hope, wellness, and resilience. Always remember, you are only ever a choice away from creating a longer, healthier, and happier life.
Lean on me
Big love,
And I'll be your friend
Lynne
I'll help you carry on...
We all have sorrow
We know that there's always tomorrow
When you're not strong
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on

H
ope is a shallow word often used as an excuse for not aspiring to achieve and follow through. Over time, we have heard thousands state, “I hope I get better.” Unless you believe in magic, this certainly will not work. By applying common sense proven principles that will strengthen your body and mind and empower your energy force to heal, you can anticipate failure. All too often, we allow external influences to pull us in numerous directions that rob our clarity and focus. Utilizing H.O.P.E. in its proper form will bring success in reaching your desired goals.
H - Happiness is what we all
desire, and any and all things that prevent it should be taken out of your way. This requires a deep commitment and integrity that many have not reached.
since you are passionate about your actions. Happiness, Organization, Peace, and Ease should be your new superhighway for achievement. We often waste time churning negative thoughts that manifest giant blockages to purity of heart when our soul is not nourished with fruitful and rewarding events. We wither like the vine in a drought. Humanity currently faces a unified dilemma that is negativity leading us. The lack of self-respect and willingness to care for ourselves has become normalized, and we suffer the consequences. When looking around, it seems that a restricted, limited, and destructive mindset governs societal norms.
heart, and soul required to pursue a purposeful life. When emotions are rampant, and turmoil exists, focus is the precious commodity you must allow to emerge as your North Star.
There is a way to break off this self-imposed encasement. What is required is an unwavering enlistment in the process of raising consciousness. This is not a pleasant activity for most since it requires you to expose your own missteps to yourself and the willingness to abolish them. Step by step, rationally and systemically, the darkness will leave, and the light will raise its brilliance. Seeing everything in and around you now permits the expansive growth that expands you above your habitual self and allows you to forge a new path to H.O.P.E.
E - Ease, the old adage of “Life is
Be well,
O - Organize your daily life by
developing values that you are 100% committed to. Without this essential tool, it is impossible to fulfill your passion.
P - Peace is the state of mind,
a struggle,” “From the day we are born, we are dying,” and “Nothing is easy” is why pain, suffering, discord, and disease seem quite normal to most. Your drive is to create a life of ease. This is only achievable when you are confidently fulfilled with elation

Email us your questions!
HOW@hippocratesinst.org Q: Is Gluten damaging to my health? - Barbara from Birmingham, Alabama A: As children, we form art pieces with glutinous flour that hardens. Can you imagine what this does to your body’s system and digestive tract? A percentage of people have severe reactions to Gluten and even develop celiac disease. So, the general rule is to avoid it. Q: Can I overeat fat on a plant-based diet, even if it’s good fats, like raw avocados? - Jim from New York, USA A: Science continuously reveals new research. A recent long-term study from the University of Illinois had participants consume one avocado daily. Women at the end of the study lost 1 inch in their abdomen, and men did not gain any weight. This extraordinary food, which is botanically part of the berry family, is loaded with mitochondria supporting glutathione, lots of Vitamin E, and essential fatty acids, among other nutrients. Q: How long does it take to detox on a raw food diet? - Ester from Barcelona, Spain A: Detoxification means many things. If you are asking about eliminating the debris from consuming bad Western diets, you can eliminate up to 60% of this noxious waste in the first week on a pure Hippocrates diet program. It actually takes a total of 7 years to renew cells and to detoxify fully. If we are speaking about heavy metal poisoning or chemicals, this varies depending upon the amounts within cells and organs, how active an individual is, and whether or not they are employing infrared saunas. Remember, most of us have some level of chemicals and heavy metals. Q: What is the most important meal of the day for weight loss? - Jack from Aberdeen, Scotland A: Midday meals between 11:30 and 1:30 p.m. are by far the most important, and the highest amount of nutritious food should be consumed between these times. Evenings should consist of small meals, and breakfast is an option once emotionally and biologically stable.
5
Q: What are the most essential supplements to take daily for overall balance and wellbeing? -Anne from Turin A: B12 is lacking in 70% of the global population, Vitamin D, which is a molecule 60%, and magnesium - 55%. These are always something to consider in a food-based raw form. Anna Maria and I personally take 39 different supplements daily, not because we have any deficiencies, but more so to gain greater physical, mental, and endurance strength. Q: I can’t always source organic food. Which foods do you think are the most important to eat organic? - Alexander from Norway A: Today’s foods are so riddled with pesticides, fungicides, and genetic modification that it is difficult to find healthy choices that are not ecological/ bioland or, as we Americans call it, organic. Asparagus, watercress, and a handful of others are less polluted. You may want to look up the dirty dozen for vegetables that are the ones to avoid at all costs. Q: How important is a positive mindset to achieving your health goals? - Jasmine from London, England A: Every guest in our programs receives psychotherapy since we recognize it as the most valuable tool to heal yourself and permanently remain loyal to an integrity-rich lifestyle. Fortythree years ago, when we began employing a positive mindset, we saw exceptional improvement in recovery with people remaining on the lifestyle. You may want to read one of our latest books, “Self-Healing Diet.” It offers the most up-to-date research on this essential subject. Q: Why do some people have problems maintaining iron levels both in the blood and/or in the form of ferritin? We have been taking iron supplements and had a couple of iron infusions to increase the levels, but when we stop over time, the levels do not stay in the normal range. - Lizzie from Edinburgh, Scotland A: Lack of B12 is the main culprit behind low Iron and ferritin levels. Animal food consumers, as do vegans, have an eight percent higher incidence of this deficiency. Raw green food vegans have the least. With that said, the one supplement that everyone should take is a living bacteria active B12 daily. Consuming sprouted lentils, which are filled with iron, also brings levels back to normal.

T
he Hippocrates Wellness program is more about hope than food, and I'll tell you why. You can eat super healthy and live green and clean, but if you don't get to what's eating you, your inner turmoil and anxieties will consume your energy, rob you of your health, and keep you from benefitting even from super nutrition. The inner life rules, which means that how we feel and think, determine how we do physically. The body follows what is in the heart and mind.
Neurotransmitters:
Hope stands at the top of the mountain as a powerful human emotion with the remarkable ability to influence not only our mental state but also our physical wellbeing. When intoxicated with hope's positive expectations for the future, we relax in the present, override past trauma more easily, and thereby usher in profound effects on our overall health. Hope is the balm of balms, the elixir of elixirs.
Immune System:
To understand the biological mechanisms behind hope, we must recognize that our thoughts and emotions are not isolated from our bodies; they are intricately connected. We call it the mind/body connection. But, even more than "connected," feelings and thoughts create the lattice work upon which all biological processes occur. That's what psychoneuroimmunology is all about. When we experience hope, a cascade of physiological changes takes place in various aspects of our biology.
When we feel hopeful, the brain releases neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. These chemicals are associated with feelings of pleasure and wellbeing. Elevated levels of these neurotransmitters can lead to a more positive mood and reduced feelings of stress and anxiety. Stress-busting is the name of the game, and hope is the coach, player, and cheerleader.
A positive outlook and hopeful attitude can enhance the body's ability to fight off infections and illnesses. Studies have shown that individuals with higher levels of hope tend to recover more quickly from illnesses and surgeries. Hope lifts us and protects us. For you science nerds, here's the breakdown:
T Cells: Studies suggest that optimism
and positive emotions enhance the function of T cells, making them more effective at recognizing and attacking pathogens.
Natural Killer (NK) Cells: NK cells
are a specialized type of immune cell that targets and destroys infected or cancerous cells. Positive emotions and attitudes have been linked to increased activity of NK cells.
| hippocrateswellness.org
12
B Cells: B cells produce antibodies that can
neutralize pathogens. Positive thinking helps support B cell activity, leading to a more robust immune response.
Macrophages: Macrophages are immune cells
that engulf and digest foreign invaders. Positive emotions enhance macrophage activity, helping to clear infections more effectively.
Cytokines: Positive emotions can lead to the
production of anti-inflammatory cytokines, which can help reduce inflammation and support immune health.
Stress Reduction: Hope acts as a buffer against
stress. When we are hopeful, our bodies produce fewer stress hormones like cortisol, which, when chronically elevated, wreaks havoc on our health, including increased blood pressure and a weakened immune system. The stress response is hard-wired in us for times of emergency, but when it turns chronic, it swiftly veers into the lane of unsustainable and wears us down.
Cardiovascular Health: Hope helps heart
health. Optimistic individuals tend to have lower blood pressure and a reduced risk of heart disease. This is partly due to the reduced stress levels associated with hope.
Pain Perception: Hope alters our perception
of pain and provides an optimistic frame that minimizes suffering by putting it in perspective. Studies have shown that hopeful individuals experience less pain and discomfort, probably due to the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers.
Longevity: Research suggests that hope
contributes to a longer life. Individuals with a hopeful outlook tend to adopt healthier lifestyles, make better choices, and engage in behaviors that promote longevity. Look at the Blue Zone dwellers all around the globe: they give us all hope that by adopting a natural lifestyle full of outdoor exercise, meaningful relationships, self-valuing, and having fun with others, we can all lead long and happy lives. Thanks, Octogenarians! Hope is not just a concept but rather a palpable, visceral mind/body experience. And by the way, there is no such thing as "false hope." Because hope yields tangible positive biological effects,
13
there's nothing false about it. Hope is hope, and it does a body good. There is no question about it: a hopeful mindset leads to improved mental health, reduced stress, and enhanced physical wellbeing. Fostering hope through positive thinking, setting goals, and maintaining a sense of purpose promotes overall wellness. Hope says, "It's good to be a human, and it's good to be alive." Listen to hope. In summary, hope does a body good by positively influencing the biology of our minds and bodies in numerous ways. Each seed of hope brings forth more seeds of hope, all of which then can grow into a full bouquet of true optimism, which in turn magnifies the probability of good things happening. Hope makes things better exponentially. The pinnacle of hope can be described with one word: PRONOIA, which is the opposite of paranoia. Pronoia is the conviction that the universe conspires to shower us with blessings. All we need to do is stay open to it, nurture it through our innate innocence and trust, and keep any positive momentum going. Hippocrates Wellness is more about hope than it is about food. After just a short time, guests feel better, feel empowered to make healthy choices, and build up an initial strong momentum towards optimal health. One good choice at a time. All the way home. Guests learn that good health is possible, and that's hopeful. Hope, empowerment, and support stand as the holy trinity in achieving optimal health. Here at Hippocrates, we help you lay the foundation so you can start building. Andy has served as a mind/body psychotherapist at Hippocrates Wellness since December of 1990, using and teaching

"Opening to the possibility of being “HOPELESSLY IN LOVE” will rapidly erase tenuous and fragile existence." Surrendering to love is the ultimate act of awareness, yet it takes freedom and trust that is difficult to accomplish. As a boy who spent much time by the ocean, I was enthralled at the sight of clams that had their shells open wide, but as I approached, they shut tight. This analogy of how clams operate applies to all of us. Openness allows knowledge, experience, and acceptance, yet it is scary to be that vulnerable. As our hearts were broken and our trust crushed throughout life via unresolved experiences cumulatively, they created a flawed persona restricting our authenticity and vailing your transparency changes cellular, organ, emotional, spiritual functioning and wellbeing. Interconnectivity not long ago was a spiritual concept that has now been validated via quantum physics and biology. We are reciprocals that harvest and harness what we are bathed in when stressful discord surrounds us. It’s messaging all your attributes to shut down and be aware. This is observed when a shocking event occurs, and you stop breathing. Under mass stress, you pass
23
out, and your electromagnetic engine shuts off. The evolutionary building of your total being came with a fuse box. This is the reason that the multitudes harbor weakness and pessimism. Opening to the possibility of being “HOPELESSLY IN LOVE” will rapidly erase tenuous and fragile existence. Your first step in achieving this noble placement is to ponder what you feel when love is real. Now, conversely, compare how you feel most of the time. We all know the winner is love. Go back to what I stated in my initial comments, where your lack of trust blocks you from embracing this beautiful and endowing emotion. Basically, the primal step to regain trust so that your shell can open is to take gradual steps in welcoming and accepting positive actions, accolades, and experiences. Once you realize that the intent of the universe is to support you, it becomes much easier to grow and accept love. Slowly but surely, even amid unpleasant, unsavory, or outright negative experiences, we can harvest the existing positivity.

Forty years ago, one of Hippocrates' guests sat and told me a story about their life. It captured me immediately, and I could almost feel the pain and suffering this now sixty-year-old woman endured. As a child she was born in Poland. Her first memory was that of her family cowering in her dark basement as bombs exploded on the street above their heads. She was hungry constantly and actually ate soil when things got bad. German soldiers took over her village, and she watched many of her family members and friends killed in front of her. All of this would have scared the strongest person, yet she found a way to weave a life of joy. My first question to her after listening to the long and frightening story was, "How did you become so happy?" She answered: "I am hopelessly in love with life." My takeaway was that she faced unthinkable terror that could have scarred her so deeply it created imminent death, psychological disorder, or, even worse, made her as evil as her enemies. NO, she chose to use these terrifying events as a springboard, and they became the opposite. Of course, at first, she pondered why she deserved to suffer so much. In her young mind, she believed that she was the cause of
this turmoil. As she entered puberty, she doubted her own beauty and attractiveness; she had few admirers. Finally, at twenty, she realized she had encapsulated herself in the very prison that her oppressors designed. In just one minute, she decided to release herself from the bonds of sadness and embrace the grace of life. One day later, she met the man she has been married to for decades, and together, they had three children. She moved from Europe to North America and succeeded in every pursuit she ever undertook. My next question to her was, "Do the memories not haunt you?" Her answer was abrupt, "Absolutely not. I know I have so much room in my mind, so I choose to fill it with the loving history." No matter who you are or what your past has brought, you can etch a future of confidence that allows you to relax in the cradle of the universe, becoming hopelessly in love with life. There is never a time that this opportunity is not available, no matter your age, ethnicity, geographical location, and even horrific surroundings.

ope. A feeling of optimistic expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen, whether this is individually or concerning the world at large, this is hope. All over the world, hope is used as a way to move forward in a positive light to keep us motivated in times of distress; we hope that we will get our dream job, we hope that our children will be happy, and we hope that our loved ones will heal. Hope is inspiring, it is nurturing, it is universal. It allows us to dream big and to work towards making those dreams come true. Instead of ruminating on the negative or focusing on what is wrong, we can mentally construct a thoughtful, happy future. With that mindset, we can forge anything into fruition. When I was eight years old, my mother, Joanna (JoJo), was diagnosed with lung cancer that eventually metastasized to her breasts, spine, and brain. We did everything we could to fight the battle but ultimately lost. This led to many years of grief and sorrow - even feelings of guilt, hopelessness, and self-pity. It wasn’t until I was in college that I started to look at this trauma from a different perspective, and it opened my eyes to how her death impacted me in positive ways as well. I had become a strong, compassionate, empathetic, and driven person who cared about the health of myself and those around me. At the age of 19, I became a yoga teacher so I could start to aid others in their journey of physical awareness, pain relief, and mental health; I had no clue this would all snowball into something bigger. When Covid-19 became prevalent, yoga was taken away from not only me but my students as well. There was no community setting where we could come together to heal in this way as we had been doing for so long; it was a struggle for many of us to fight off the negative mindset. When public facilities finally started opening up in Palm Beach County, I knew I needed to do something that would significantly impact my community. I wanted to create a space of my own that would inspire others to honor my mother and encourage the community to come together based on mutual ideals of health and wellness.
This led to the start of JoJo’s Farmers Market. On July 31st, 2022, our grand opening event hosted upwards of 40 vendors at Carlin Park in Jupiter, Florida. We had healthy food trucks, raw vegan snacks, an amazing variety of sprouts, produce and prepared food, acupuncturists, chiropractors, natural body products, cotton clothing, yoga and fitness classes, and so much more. Not only did this space open up a door for locals to come together, but it opened up many eyes to alternative ways of eating, healing, and being. The market runs once a month, and I can feel my mother’s presence every time we are there. Through this market, her name and her story live on. The peace that this brings me is paramount, and it continues to prove to me that there is hope in times of despair. Believe it or not, this market is how I learned about Hippocrates Wellness, as they applied to be a vendor to share their message. At Hippocrates, we have a motto, “Helping People Help Themselves”. Our goal, or hope, if you will, is to connect with as many individuals via this lifestyle as possible so we may spread the ideals we know are true about healthy living and encourage others to take ownership of their lifestyle habits. We have seen guests come in with an inability to walk but enough hope to fill up the whole building, and by the end of their stay, they are walking. We have seen chronic pain alleviated, migraines reduced, sleep increased, digestive issues resolved, and much more. This was a result of our guests and our staff truly believing in the services we offer. An integral part of our program at Hippocrates is centered around healing through our work services at the Oasis Therapy Center. We know that the body and mind work symbiotically; if one falls short, so will the other. In our signature 3-week Life Transformation Program, our guests receive one massage per week, one colonic per stay, two mental health sessions, and three energy healing services per week. This combination of services, the raw vegan diet, and mindful exercise work individually with each guest to ensure that the whole is functioning at its best. When you add hope to this equation, you hold the recipe for success.

By Antony Chatham Yes, it is true. Miracles blossom at the Hippocrates Program! Every guest at Hippocrates Wellness arrives with something special: a belief that one can either learn to take care of one's health challenge or improve the quality of health in general. This belief that good things and wishes or aims will be ultimately fulfilled is HOPE.
A 2008 study of multiple sclerosis patients found that hope led to measurable improvements as they were more adaptive and were able to take advantage of different available modalities of healing. Another 2011 study found that hopeful patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis had similar positive outcomes.
Not a Pollyannaish optimism.
Optimism and hope produce positive outcomes.
Although the pandemic destroyed people’s sense of hope, it is being recovered slowly because of optimism and hope. Hope is still at the root of human evolution, which has been steadily moving forward despite the many historical challenges. As the psychologist Everett Worthington suggests, hope is not Pollyannaish optimism…but it is a motivation to persevere toward a goal, even if the outcome is not assured.
Hope is a type of "Psychological Capital."
Hope is a type of “psychological capital," was the finding of a 2010 study, which found that those individuals in the study who were high in hope demonstrated better athletic, academic, occupational, and health outcomes. The study also indicated that hopeful individuals are more successful and healthier because they already take initiative about their professional, financial, and physical wellbeing.
31
It has been empirically proven that optimism and hope help produce positive physical and psychological health outcomes. In this context, optimism is explained as a cognitive variable reflecting one's favorable view about one's future; optimists have more positive than negative expectations and tend to report less distress in their daily lives, even in the face of challenges (Carver et al., 2010). Another study (Boehm et al., 2020) reveals that optimism is modifiable and associated with better cardiovascular health). Snyder (1991) defined hope as a state of positive motivation based on three components: objectives (goals to be achieved), pathways (planning to achieve these goals), and agency (motivation directed toward these objectives). People who anticipate positive experiences in the future can make their daily lives better by being able to confront and control negative emotions and stress.

Hippocrates Wellness instills hope at various stages in the Life Transformation Program.
Hope is instilled in Hippocrates Wellness at various stages. When our directors, Brian and Anna Maria Clement, visit various cities worldwide, they make it a point to instill hope in our potential guests. Many of our guests report to us, the psychotherapists, that listening to their lecture with convincing statistics was the beginning of their healing journey. When guests come to the Life Transformation Program, they meet with other guests who share their hopes about health and healing. This hope is reinforced through the Program's classes and other group activities. Classes give information and motivation to our guests. The "graduation ceremonies" and other fun activities help guests to share their hope. Most of our guests experience some level of "detox" in the first week of the Program. Some guests are discouraged by negative side effects like headaches, nausea, or lethargy in the Program's first week. However, guests who have experienced it beforehand encourage them by instilling hope by sharing their
own stories. The staff instill hope in our guests through their caring attitude and assurances.
Psychotherapists have a special role.
The psychotherapists who collaborate with our guests also kindle the hopes of our participants in diverse ways. The first step is to acknowledge the reality that there is always hope, no matter how difficult a situation may seem. The therapy sessions help to release the negative energies and the hopelessness that often come with the diagnoses and the past failures in their medical treatments. Stories of people who had to endure enormous suffering to reach the final success instill hope in people. Individual therapy sessions, Group therapy sessions, EMDR sessions, and Hypnotherapy sessions encourage our guests to have hope. The Creative Visualization Sessions (often recorded for the guest's personal use in the future) emphasize the hope that beneficial changes are possible and manageable. They feel encouraged to listen to other guests' success stories. The January issues of HEALING OUR WORLD quarterly magazine are entirely dedicated to the inspiring recovery stories of our Hippocrates' guests so that our guests and potential guests can kindle their hope by reading about the success stories.
Antony Chatham, a Licensed Psychotherapist, and a Wellness Counselor has been working with the Hippocrates' guests since 1994. He employs some very effective brief-therapy techniques from Eastern and Western traditions of holistic healing while integrating his knowledge and experience related to the fields of psychology, philosophy, and theology, in which he also holds Master's degrees and Doctoral coursework. His work is focused on state-of-the-art Stress Management using Relaxation Techniques, Guided Imagery, NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming), Regression, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) & Spiritual consultations.

Introduction When, in March 1999, Vice President Gore said, “During my service in the U.S. Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet,” comedians unleashed a fusillade of jokes, mocking him. Of course, the Internet was already in existence when Gore was first elected to Congress in 1977. In fairness, however, Gore promoted the use of computers in Congress and, as a Senator, promoted bills making the government a catalyst for the ‘information superhighway.’ Then, in 1991, he sponsored a law devoting over $1 billion to connecting computers to international networks linking universities, schools, and other institutions. The irony is, by then, the country was already connected by a sophisticated computer network, originating not with Congress but 30 years earlier in the depths of the dank and unforgiving jungles of Southeast Asia.
ARPA - The Quiet Americans In the 1960s, the war in Vietnam posed a novel challenge. The American adversary employed guerilla tactics, often confounding the use of expensive, conventional ordinance and strategy. When, in 1957, a satellite the size of a volleyball was launched, the Pentagon was in a panic. The Soviet Sputnik demanded an American response. President Eisenhower approved a Congressional US Air Force appropriations bill, awarding $1 billion to the Pentagon for the creation of the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). ARPA then launched two initiatives, Project Agile and Command and Control Research (CCR), which created the Internet. J. C. R. Licklider (Lick), a psychologist with an addiction to Coca-Cola, was put in charge of CCR in 1962.

Silicon Valley Lick was a visionary. He believed in a future world where a single, sophisticated computer network - capable of accessing unlimited information could connect all intelligence, government, and military agencies. He funded interactive computing, artificial intelligence, and graphic interface design projects through his personal and professional networks. MIT, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford, and the Rand Corporation rose to the call from ARPA, and Silicon Valley was born. At universities, Computer Science became a department of its own. William Godel, a military intelligence officer, arrived in Saigon in 1961 in charge of Project Agile. The US was not officially in the war but had military advisers in Vietnam counseling the French on its war with North Vietnam. On August 10, 1961, an initial project launched a Sikorsky helicopter over the impenetrable jungle Kon Tum, spraying the experimental Agent Orange, a defoliant chemical. Observers said it smelled like perfume. Discovering that the Vietnamese culture had a large element of belief in vampires, the US military ordered soldiers to perforate adversary corpses to strike fear in their opposition. ARPA’s technological ingenuity produced Project Igloo White, a computerized surveillance barrier. The initiative deposited thousands of radiocontrolled seismic sensors, microphones, and heat and urine detectors into the dense jungle. When anything moved in the area, an airstrike would shower the foliage with bombs and napalm. Initially,
this ‘electronic fence’ technology was effective and, a few years later, was deployed along the Mexican border in the U.S. However, North Vietnam’s intelligence soon comprehended the system and retaliated with tape-recorded truck sounds, urine deployment, and other decoys. The Americans then bombed the empty jungles. ARPA realized that this was an intelligent, adaptable adversary in an environment comfortable to it but alien to Americans. Graham Green’s book, The Quiet American, describes this situation well. Yasha Levine, in his outstanding history, Surveillance Valley, reveals to William Godel, high-tech counterinsurgency was about more than just developing modern killing methods. It was about surveilling, studying, and understanding the people and cultures where the insurrection occurred. The idea was to understand what made them resist and fight and what it would take to change their minds. The movie Apocalypse Now dramatized this culturally centered counterinsurgency. ARPA, under Godel, generously funded a horde of social and behavioral scientists to produce a counterinsurgency weapon effective in any culture in the world. Godel directed the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica to manage anthropologists, political scientists, and sociologists to study Vietnamese peasants, captured North Vietnamese, and hill tribe rebels. The Rand scientists studied the Strategic Hamlet pacification project to determine why North Vietnamese soldiers were not defecting to the American side.
The Backlog While the intelligence gathered was cogent and potentially helpful, it was mainly submitted on paper. The military budget was so generous that warehouses began filling up with reports on every aspect of the people of Vietnam. Unless this could be digitized, it was mostly outdated and useless by the time it was analyzed. So, at Command and Control Research, Lick was acknowledged as the essential key to the counterinsurgency program. The enormous influx of ARPA funding to CCR was the driver that eventually produced the supercomputers that made surveillance and control of populations feasible. Once ARPA had developed a digital computer network capable of storing and assessing an infinite amount of information, coupled with a communication system linking that information to all intelligence, military, and government agencies and each other, the job was done. Email was just one of the innovations that revolutionized military communication.

The Convenant
The Matrix
It did not take a genius to realize that the counterinsurgency oversight network could also be used domestically. Thus, the government soon utilized the Internet to quietly monitor potential criminal activity within the US. What did take genius was to realize the system could be even more effective if American citizens were told about it and, indeed, agreed to it. Americans were offered liberating technology, instant, cheap communications, and access to all the world’s knowledge at their fingertips in exchange for their privacy—a small price to pay for such an inestimable bounty, free of charge.
During the 18th Century, the Austrian Empire had gained access to correspondence, passing through central Europe by providing the most efficient postal service throughout the Holy Roman Empire. Although the Austrian Empire was no longer, Prince Klemens von Metternich knew that control of the postal service was essential to the invigilation of Europe. Most of the mail of the former empire still passed through Austrian sorting offices. Metternich extended this in partnership with the patrician de Fischer family in Berne. Consequently, all mail between France, Germany, and Italy was accessible to Austrian police scrutiny. People knew there was a good chance their letters were being opened, read, and resealed, but they still used the Austrian post because it was cheaper and faster than others.
"The government soon utilized the Internet to quietly monitor potential criminal activity within the US."
To comprehend the magnitude of the facility Metternich pioneered, look at the Memphis, Tennessee, FedEx hub, the Matrix. Half a million packages an hour arrive from more than 150 planes every night. The company serves 375 airports in 220 countries. The packages are sorted and reloaded within hours on planes that will take them close to their final destination. 7,000 employees work all night, and 3,500 work the day shift. In a separate building, crews process almost a million small packages, primarily documents, per night. The efficiency is impressive. FedEx has a 99.97% accuracy sorting rate.

A Passcode for Your Privacy According to Wikipedia, “The Internet has no single centralized governance: each constituent network sets its own policies.” However, Wiki adds, “In the US, under the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, all phone calls and broadband Internet traffic (emails, web traffic, instant messaging, etc.) are required to be available for unimpeded real-time monitoring by Federal law enforcement agencies.” So, who does own or control the Internet? In 1989, commercial Internet service providers (ISPs) emerged, and ARPA decommissioned its service in 1990 to avoid the association of the Internet with a military organization. The hardware needed to process the billions of data every second is colossal. One data center can cost over $2 billion to build. Element Critical has a 280,000 sq. ft. installation on 14.5 acres near Tysons, VA. Equinix has a mammoth supercomputer data center at Tysons Corner, VA, another in Vienna, VA, and yet another in Ashburn, VA, one in Secaucus, NJ, and one in Miami. Other companies own similar data centers in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Silicon Valley, and Phoenix. Equinix owns three more in Dallas.
In 2011, the US Army Corps of Engineers began constructing a $2 billion data center outside Salt Lake City, Utah, the desert home of the National Security Agency (NSA). The structure provides 1.5 million sq. ft. and employs hundreds of highly paid employees. This supercomputer edifice has an electric bill of $50 million a year. Ironically, as with the Defense Department’s NSA installation, much of the Internet’s infrastructure, especially phone towers and cabling, was funded by taxpayer money before the privatization of the network. Now, very little of that infrastructure is publicly owned. Google and Facebook/Meta now are responsible for 70% of all Internet traffic. James Bamford, author of The Shadow FactoryThe Ultra-Secret NSA from 9/11 to Eavesdropping on America, said the public has yet to grasp the significance of Utah’s data mining. “It’s basically a hard drive. It’s also a cloud, a warehouse. It‘ll be storing not just text and audio, but pictures and video.” In his book No Place to Hide, Glenn Greenwald showed that the NSA’s stated objective was to “Collect it All,” “Process it All,” “Exploit it All, “Partner it All,” “Sniff it All,” and “Know it All.”
Cyber Whistleblower On June 21, 2013, the US government charged Edward Snowden with espionage. Two days later, he flew to Moscow and was granted asylum. Snowden had trained top military officers in Japan to defend their networks from Chinese hackers. Dissatisfied with the NSA’s omniscient surveillance of Americans, Snowden released NSA documents disclosing its multibillion-dollar budget and the extent of its domestic invigilation apparatus. He revealed, for example, that a secret court order required Verizon to hand the NSA millions of Americans’ phone records daily. The Guardian newspaper reported Snowden said, “ I, sitting at my desk, could wiretap anyone from you or your accountant to a federal judge or even the President if I had a personal email.”
The Pandemic The origin of the COVID-19 virus is more obscure. Even with an estimated budget of over $80 billion annually, the US intelligence agencies could not determine where the virulent virus originated. The CIA claims it is a mystery. Now, it is unlikely that the Chinese government intentionally released a virus. It is not plausible that the government would first release a deadly agent on its own population. Controversy continues about whether the origin is a leak from the Wuhan Virology Institute or perhaps from a bat soup sold in an open-air market near that institute. It is well documented that, once again, US taxpayer dollars funded the experiments in the Institute through grants from Dr. Fauci. A portion of $3.7 million in grants between 2014 and 2019 by the US National Institute of Health (NIH) to EcoHealthAlliance (EHA) helped fund viral research in Wuhan, China. The circuitous funding route occurred because gain– of–function viral research was illegal in the USA.

Emergency Approval Operation Warp Speed, a term from Star Trek's fictional universe, was initiated by President Trump on May 15, 2020, headed by Moncef Slaoui. Congress approved $18 billion by October for 1.2 billion doses of vaccine. Because it acknowledged the vaccine's possible side effects, the US government exempted the production companies from prosecution resulting from any injuries. The companies approved for emergency marketing were Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Novavax, Merck, and Glaxo-Smith Kline. To date, there have been reports of serious side effects from the vaccines, but it is difficult to prove a relationship between a post-vaccine malady and the vaccine itself. Both champion tennis player Novak Djokovic and star New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers refused the vaccine. TV journalist, Megyn Kelly, consulted New York's top rheumatologist about side effects she attributed to the Covid vaccine. The doctor agreed and told her many other vaccinated had the same symptoms. Although statistics for COVID-19 deaths were high, fortunately, no celebrities or important government officials died from the virus. Both President Trump and President Biden contracted symptoms for a couple of days but recovered quickly. In his book, The Truth about Wuhan - the Biggest Lie in History, Dr. Andrew Huff reveals that EcoHealthAlliance (EHA) was also receiving millions from US government agencies to conduct global bio-surveillance while doing little to reduce disease or improve ecological health. EHA also received support from the Wellcome Trust, the Google Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation. Dr. Huff says the “first truth about Wuhan: there is no evidence that SARS-COV-2 naturally emerged.”

Computer Generated The book The Contagion Myth by Dr. Tom Cowan and Sally Fallon Morell contains a novel approach to searching for the origin. These authors intelligently suggest that the reason the CIA cannot discover the source of the virus is that it does not exist. Dr. Cowan attempted to isolate a sample of COVID-19 without success. The co-authors analyze in scientific detail the journal articles claiming the isolation of the deadly virus and convincingly challenge each one. The authors consider the spread of 5G towers and the vaccine itself as more of a danger. The economic lockdowns over two years they consider a mistake. In support of this thesis, Michael Chossudovsky, in The Worldwide Corona Crisis, says there is no causal relationship between the virus and the economic variables and suggests the lockdown was political in nature. In addition, he claims that the DNA-modifying Polymerase Chain Reaction test (PCR) produced up to 97% proven false positives. It is true that the late Dr. Kary Mullis, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his development of the PCR test, said himself that the test was to amplify DNA samples but that it was not a test for the presence of a virus.
Test the Test In the summer of 2020, the late president of Tanzania, a trained chemist, determined to confirm the accuracy of the PCR test. He labeled samples with the names of people and sent them to a lab. However, included were samples from animals and fruit. To his surprise, the sample from a goat tested positive, as did one from a papaya. The president declared non-observance of the COVID-19 pandemic throughout Tanzania.
Residual Toxicity Now, apart from the concerns about the loss of freedom and privacy concerning the phenomena of the Internet and the Coronavirus, there are concerns about the physical toxic fallout. Fortunately, the health concerns may be more easily remedied than the political ones. Blue light, for example, is emitted from computers, television sets, and other electronic screens. Although beneficial by day, at night, the short wave light in the violet/blue band can have many negative biological effects, namely on circadian rhythm, retinal health, and macular degeneration. This blue light hazard can also lead to sleeplessness, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Another fallout from the computer age is what Koreans have diagnosed as digital dementia. Digital addiction is another. The ubiquity of pornography on the internet has a host of negative consequences. Even before the COVID-19 event, Dr. Stephanie Seneff became aware of a novel lung disease associated with e-cigarettes. Since the 2007 introduction of vaping to the US market, Dr. Seneff suspected glyphosate might be the cause. "Tobacco itself is a GMO Roundup-Ready crop, so this could be one source, but other potential sources specific to e-cigarettes are glycerin and propylene, glycol additives. Glycerin is a major waste product of biodiesel production, easily converted into propylene glycol. The increased biodiesel production has glutted the market with glycerin, making it inexpensive and widely available." The symptoms of this novel lung disease mimic the symptoms of COVID-19—shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, gastrointestinal issues, and abdominal pain. Patients also had fever or upper respiratory symptoms. It is significant that Dr. Tom Cowan also suggests that diesel emissions could cause similar symptoms to those associated with COVID-19. But he also warns in The Contagion Myth that "The spread of 'CoronaVirus' cases in large cities has followed the rollout of 5G millimeter small-cell emitters in major cities across the world, first in Wuhan, China, then in Europe, then in New York and other major US cities." California first put a future ban on gas-powered cars. In addition, CARP wants, in 2025, all new diesel vehicles to be powered by ’clean fuel.’ While recognizing the danger of diesel that Dr. Cowan has pointed to, California has allowed the construction of the Tesla Supercharger Station in Coalinga. The mammoth installation has 98 charging bays and is the biggest in the world. However, the electricity injected into the EVs is produced by a diesel-powered generator adjacent to the Supercharger Station. For those interested in astute investment, both Blackrock, Inc. and Vanguard Group, Inc. are major shareholders in Equinix, Pfizer, FedEx, Tesla, and even Lick’s favorite beverage, Coca-Cola.

Toxic Dust Heavy metals, cadmium, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, nickel, and flame retardants are essential in electronic devices. Hazardous chemicals, such as phthalates, can be released from these devices into the air and dust of the home or office. Dr. Devra Davis warns that wireless technologies can produce health risks. "Young children of parents who frequently use devices as a form of childcare can experience delays in speech acquisition and bonding, while older children report feelings of disappointment due to 'technoference' parental distraction due to technology. Children who begin using devices early in life can become socially, psychologically, and physically addicted to the technology and experience withdrawal upon cessation."
The Answer So, what can be done to detoxify and remain immune from these tech-generated contaminants? The severity of the crisis really calls for a miraculous remedy. And there just may be one. Energy Medicine originated in a California workshop 100 years ago and began with private, not taxpayer, investment. Royal R. Rife opened a clinic that bathed patients’ cancer cells with electromagnetic emissions, adjusting the frequency to achieve remission. A special research committee oversaw his research during the 1930s, and independent physicians, utilizing his technologies, successfully treated as many as 40 people a day. His treatment of cancer, herpes, and tuberculosis was recorded in Science magazine and, later, in the Smithsonian Institution’s annual report. Barry Lynn’s book, The Cancer Cure That Worked, tells the story. Unfortunately, orthodox medicine conflicted with Rife’s discovery that coherent wave emission could restore health at the correct frequencies. Funding dried up, and Americans had to wait 40 years before the computer revolution stimulated research and technology in wave therapy. Today, a vast array of state-of-the-art Energy Medicine devices are available. At Hippocrates Wellness, more than a dozen patented technologies support the mitigation of electrosmog, memory and recall enhancement, sleep support, peak concentration, pain reduction, bone regeneration, and overall balancing of the autonomic nervous system. Sound, crystal, infrared with oxygen, polarized light, pulsed electromagnetic (PEMF) therapies, hyperbaric therapy, and multi-radiance treatments are used daily to support guests in their quest for pain relief with a view to regain a balanced, healthy, and fulfilling life, protected from the negative and toxic intrusions of digital devices. All this without side effects. The Energy Medicine department has designed a specific upgrade to the Life Transformation Program called Regeneration X. This program is a regenerative health journey in rebalancing the body’s natural vibrational well-being to mitigate the nefarious and debilitating effects of EMF and microwave radiation. Hippocrates has also added the updated version of the Rife machine, a device containing more than 4 million frequencies that correct and reestablish cellular health and vibrancy.
Self-Sufficiency Brian and Anna Maria Clement have been leaders in promoting health self-determination for decades. The embracing of Energy Medicine as a nontoxic, easy, and affordable approach to healing remains one of the best-kept secrets practiced at Hippocrates. Portable devices available for purchase and home use have continued to help guests and their families achieve optimal health. Some of these devices are currently on promotion and make a unique and caring Christmas gift. Unfortunately, clean water has become extinct. In this day and age, we cannot assume that water is pollutant-free— regardless of the source. Just because your water supplier meets government standards does not guarantee it is safe or healthy. Recent scientific studies report how the nations' water supplies have become increasingly contaminated by toxic chemicals. Illegal discharge of these pollutants has been going on for decades, entering our groundwater sources and increasing the level of contamination. Now, these contaminants are reemerging in our drinking water. Newer emerging contaminants such as PFAS and PFOS chemicals, or "Forever Chemicals," are making their way into the water supply. According to a recent report from the United States Geological Survey, more than 50% of the U.S. water in the U.S. is contaminated with these very toxic chemicals.
When Government Standards Fall Short
What happens when government standards are not strict enough? Do the current regulations cover the many new chemicals and contaminants added to our environment each year? Is our water really safe? The answers will alarm you. A study conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service in 1999 confirmed that approximately 40 percent of all public water systems were not safe. The Environmental Protection Agency addressed this environmental concern, and in 1974, the Safe Drinking Water Act was passed to protect citizens by regulating contaminants. However, these old allowable contaminant levels have been scientifically proven to be inadequate and unhealthy.
What Toxins Are in Our Water
Over time, PFAS chemicals can do a lot of damage to our health, including increasing kidney and testicular cancer, liver and thyroid damage, and disruption of our hormone system.
Regardless of where you live, the "toxic soup" of chemicals in our water supply is a known health risk. As consumers, we must be aware so that we may take corrective measures in our homes to protect ourselves, our families, and clean our water using adequate filtration equipment. Offthe-shelf general filtration will not remove all these toxic substances. It requires advanced water filtration equipment solutions to remove these toxic contaminants.
Another serious threat to our health is a rotting and decaying water delivery infrastructure—the pipes themselves. There are constant breaks that make the system susceptible to bacteria and other toxic waste material.
Clean, pure water is the essence of life and the birthright of all of us. There is no better gift we can give our family than to provide uncontaminated, clean, safe water every time we turn on the tap.
A Wall Street Journal front page article states: "2.2 million miles of pipes that carry water into homes, businesses, and public places are breaking. Many of the roughly 145,000 public water systems' treatment facilities that make water safe to drink are decaying."

lthough evolution and God chose women to perpetuate our species, making them powerful, strong, and capable, modern lifestyles have placed formidable health challenges before them to conquer. Data from Universities and top Science researchers announce a minefield of disorders from pain to menopause and insomnia to depression as a contemporary nemesis.
Insomnia is twice as prevalent in women as men and is especially common postmenopause. (Buysse DZ. Angst J, Gmna 2008 Sleep (31.473-480). The Women's Health Initiative conducted a grand study on 16,000 women, similar to another study conducted by the American Heart Association/Harvard Medical School (Nurses' Health Study 19762004).
50% of women experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which brings symptoms of discomfort, sore breasts, and emotional upheaval.
Both showed that women taking conventional Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) from age 60-79 experience twice as much dementia, a significantly higher amount of heart disease, strokes, blood clots in the legs and lungs, and breast cancer. CORRECTLY PRESCRIBED Plant-based bio-identical hormones have proven to reduce many of the above disorders. Insomnia increases with age, and is often activated by home and work stressors. Burnout and insomnia predict each other and affect women twice as much as aging men. Men begin Andropause at 26 years old but slowly lose hormonal activity, WHEREAS THE FEMALE BODY SUFFERS A RAPID DEESCALATION. (Ayaset AL.2003).
3% of young new mothers experience postpartum depression that rarely blooms into full-blast depression. This is often marked by an emotional disconnect with the newborn and gyrating feelings that make the woman feel dysfunctional. 17% of women develop clinical depression sometime during their life versus 9% of men (Hasin et al., 2005). Married women are more likely to experience depression than single ones (Hasin et al., 2005). This is most likely due to socially provoked female insecurities about her role as wife, partner, and mother. Women attempt suicide at a much higher level than men but often fail. Men are four times more successful in this unthinkable act. Perimenopause generally begins five years before full menopause. There are rare cases where prelude can begin up to fifteen years before. It takes twelve months without any menstruation to fully indicate that menopause has begun. Before Edison's Light Bulb invention, the average person would sleep ten hours daily. It has been reduced by three to four hours nightly in the U.S. and many developed countries. Experts like Dr. Delement, Stanford University's renowned sleep researcher, have determined that the average adult requires 8-8 1 ⁄ 2 hours daily to maintain biological and psychological wellbeing.
At age 70 in North America, over 80% of women take an average of five medications. This significantly changes biochemistry, unnaturally adding to sleep deprivation, anxiety, depression, memory loss, and even Alzheimer's disease (Drake, Roehrs, Roth. 2003, 18.163.176). Women experience pain at a heightened level compared to men. Contemplating potential pain is even more problematic than pain itself. (European Journal Chronic Pain). Women experience more headaches and back and spine pain than men (Albazazr, Wong YT, Homer/ Vannia Siakam 2008, 20,20297/306). Women suffer double or more the amount of fibromyalgia (musculoskeletal pain). Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can cause damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys, joints, skin, brain, and blood vessels. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease causing cartilage to break down, allowing bones to rub against each other.

he following are some of the diseases and ailments that effect women in particular:
Osteoporosis decreases bone density and strength, leading to painful fractures of the spine, hips, and other bones. Rheumatoid Arthritis, inflammation, and joint damage are progressive with swelling of the synovium followed by stiffness and, lastly, releasing enzymes that destroy the bones and cartilage, leaving the joints deformed. (Arthritis Foundation). Scleroderma is an overproduction of collagen that causes hardening of the skin. Trigeminal Neuralgia, the fifth cranial nerve, is affected, sending pain impulses to the brain from the face, jaw, gums, and forehead, and chronic pelvic pain, often from sexual abuse. Dysmenorrhea is painful menstrual cramping due to high levels of prostaglandins before and during menses when the small vessels in the uterine wall contract, causing pain. Endometriosis is when tissue similar to that in the uterine lining grows elsewhere in the body, attaching to other organs, leading to chronic inflammation. Fibroids are benign tumors that respond to estrogen and progesterone and can grow large. Interstitial cystitis is a chronic inflammation of the bladder wall (Mary O'Brian MD. 2023 University of MASS). Women age faster, around 30-50. Hormonal changes, pregnancy or menopausal stress, and smoking speed it up. By measuring the length of the telomere - pieces of DNA that protect the ends of chromosomes - it has been found that women are biologically younger than their chronological age if they have healthy diets. (Institute of Genomics China). In 1974, I began my work and formal education in the field of progressive healthcare. Fortunately, at an early age, I was exposed to the miracles that a proper lifestyle brings.

Directing Europe's foremost center, Brandal, for inflammatory disease, we routinely helped people reverse a broad spectrum of disorders. In 1980, Brian and I assumed the directorship of Hippocrates Wellness, and now my life's work has been rounded out since we were addressing Stage 4 cancer and other serious concerns. These half-century efforts have brought me a clear and unshakable understanding that your attitude and other lifestyle choices are the hallmarks of preventing and reversing illness.
"Women are biologically younger than their chronological age if they have healthy diets" There are rare genetic diseases, but everything we mentioned in this article is clearly created via mindset, nutritional selection, movement, and exercise. Unlike mainstream medicine, whose purpose is to suppress a current concern, my tool has been to strengthen the body/mind, which releases the body's inherent ability to conquer disorders and bring back balance. Clinically observing this with our medical team and testing, there is no doubt that you are in charge of your health outcomes. There is never a time that you should not first consider natural progressive approaches to healing since they are the traditional medicines that have spanned human history and kept billions of people well over Millennia. Look at how you live and all the aspects that make you happy and those that bring you down, and eliminate the second by fueling yourself with the enthusiastic spirit you had as a bright-eyed, fully engaged child.

Blood Clotting Proteins Might Help Predict Long COVID Brain Fog
Reading for Pleasure Helps Kids’ Brain Development
Many people with long COVID—a condition in which health issues persist months after infection—report struggling with “Brain Fog,” recurring memory and concentration lapses that make it difficultto function in everyday life. A new study has found that these cognitive problems could result from blood clots triggered by infection, possibly through mechanisms like those that cause some types of dementia. These clots leave telltale protein signatures in blood, suggesting that testing for them could help predict, diagnose, and possibly even treat long COVID. The new findings are “very exciting,” says Resia Pretorius, a physiologist at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Her own research has found links between brain fog in long COVID and “microclots” in the blood.
The simple and fun act of reading for pleasure in early childhood produces better cognition, mental health, and educational attainment in adolescence. Studies have shown that early childhood poverty is a risk factor for lower educational attainment, associated with differences in brain structure, poorer cognition, behavioral problems, and mental health symptoms. This conveys just how important it is to give all children an equal chance in life. Recent research has discovered that reading for pleasure in early childhood was linked with better scores on comprehensive cognition assessments and better educational attainment in young adolescents. It was also associated with fewer mental health problems and less time spent on electronic devices. It was also discovered that children who read for pleasure had larger cortical surface areas in several brain regions significantly related to cognition and mental health (including the frontal areas).

Large Herbivores Can Help Prevent Massive Wildfires Reintroducing large herbivores into fire-prone areas can help combat the global rise in megafires. While the frequency, intensity, and severity of large-scale wildfires might be a consequence of climate change, another cause is receiving little attention: the decline of large herbivore populations. Large herbivores regulate nature’s fire systems by eating plant matter that fuels wildfires and turning over soil and vegetation litter as a result of their rummaging behavior. But, large herbivores are in trouble. About 60 percent of species of the world’s largest terrestrial herbivores are at risk of extinction for two key reasons: one, because of extensive overhunting to feed rising populations across the developing world, and two, as part of encroachment by livestock, deforestation, and expanding cultivation in the developed world. Ecosystem engineering to reintroduce large herbivores into fire-prone regions in Australia has shown some promise, yet conservationists and media outlets often portray these animals as helpless victims. As a relatively inexpensive part of any fire prevention strategy, we must prioritize the reintroduction of either wild or domestic large herbivores into fire-prone areas to help prevent these disasters.

If AI Becomes Conscious, Here’s How We Can Tell A checklist derived from six neuroscience-based theories of consciousness could help assess whether an artificial intelligence system achieves this state. Many researchers say that AI systems aren’t yet at the point of consciousness but that the pace of AI evolution has got them pondering: How would we know if they were? To answer this, a group of 19 neuroscientists, philosophers, and computer scientists have devised a checklist of criteria that, if met, would indicate that a system has a high chance of being conscious. They published their provisional guide in the arXiv preprint repository earlier this week, ahead of peer review. The authors undertook the effort because “It seemed like there was a real dearth of detailed, empirically grounded, thoughtful discussion of AI consciousness,” says co-author Robert Long, a philosopher at the Center for AI Safety, a research non-profit organization in San Francisco, California.
carbohydrate in a kind of equal ratio don’t exist naturally,” she says. “It’s something that food scientists design in a laboratory to look a certain way, feel a certain way in your mouth, smell a certain way when you open the package.” A 2021 study showed, for example, that people with binge eating disorders exclusively overeat ultra-processed food. “People aren’t losing control over beans,” Gearhardt says.

Are Naps Good for You? There is some debate over whether napping benefits everyone. Research suggests naps can boost at least some people’s cognitive performance in the short term. A regular midday snooze might also have longer-term impacts, from a possible improvement in cardiovascular health to a bulwark against brain volume loss— potentially a protective factor against dementia. “If you can fit in a nap of anything up to about 30 minutes, which isn’t really long, there seems to be fairly good evidence that you could be helping your brain age a little bit more healthily,” says Victoria Garfield, an epidemiologist at University College London. A 2017 review of research on the long-term health effects of napping, published in Sleep Medicine Reviews, found that studies in midlife adults showed napping to be associated with reduced coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and death from cardiovascular conditions. The review concluded that short naps may lower blood pressure and heart rate and reduce the release of hormones such as adrenaline—all factors that could improve cardiovascular health.

How Stress Affects Inflammatory Bowel Disease Scientists have traced two detailed molecular pathways from the brain to the gut that produce IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) flares. Three different groups of IBD patients found that psychological stress—a death in the family or a bad fight with a loved one, for instance—can trigger the release of brain chemicals that cause IBD symptoms. This doesn't mean IBD is all in the head, emphasizes Christoph A. Thaiss of the University of Pennsylvania, one of the researchers. But it does mean psychotherapy and targeted stress-management techniques have important—and until now underappreciated—roles to play in preventing and treating agonizing flares.

Highly processed foods resemble drugs of misuse in a number of disturbing ways. Given the option, most rats will choose sugar instead of cocaine. Their lust for the carbohydrate is so intense that they will go as far as to self-administer electric shocks in their desperation to consume sugar. Rats aren’t alone in this drive. Humans, it seems, do something similar. Recent studies show that daily snacking on processed foods rewires the brain’s reward circuits. Cravings for tasty meals light up the brain just like cravings for cocaine do, prompting some researchers to ask whether products such as fries or cookies can trigger addiction akin to that associated with drugs or alcohol. Yet Ashley Gearhardt, a clinical psychologist at the University of Michigan, argues that highly processed foods vastly differ from what our ancestors used to consume. “Foods that are very high in fat and
Efforts to discourage smoking have steadily reduced its prevalence from 27.8% of the global population in 1990 to 19.6% in 2019. However, the total number of people who smoke has actually increased over the same period, owing to population growth. In 2019, there were 1.14 billion smokers worldwide. If current smoking patterns do not change, by the end of the twenty-first century, ten times as many people will have died from smoking as during the whole of the twentieth century. The vast majority of people who will die will be those who continue to smoke; quitting at any age considerably reduces the risk of a smoking-related death. Quitting smoking before the age of 40 avoids more than 90% of the excess risk of death.

Thai Kelp Noodles Inspired by the Traditional Dish Noodle Ingredients:
12 oz. bag of kelp noodles 3/4 cup of shredded carrot 1/4 cup of sliced red cabbage 1/4 cup of sliced scallions 3/4 cup of batonnet cucumber (cucumber sticks) 2 tbsp. of chopped cilantro 3/4 cup of batonnet jicama (optional) Braggs Liquid Aminos (optional)
Sauce:
1 oz. of lime juice 1/4 inch slice of ginger 1/4 tsp. of kelp powder 3/4 inch scallion bottoms (white portion including roots) 1/4 stalk of celery 1 clove of garlic 1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper 1 cup of sliced carrot 4.5 oz. of raw organic almond butter 2 oz. of water Braggs or Nama Shoyu Optional to taste added to noodles
Method:
1. Put kelp noodles in a big bowl with warm water. Add lemon juice and then baking soda. It should fizz up. Let the noodles sit for about 10 minutes until soft. If they are not soft, add more lemon juice and baking soda so that it fizzes again. Then, take the noodles out of the water and rinse them well. 2. Combine all noodle ingredients in a large bowl. 3. Blend all sauce ingredients except almond butter. 4. Slowly add almond butter as the sauce is blending on a low setting. 5. Add sauce to vegetables and kelp noodles and toss. 6. Season with Braggs or Nama Shoya to taste. 7. Garnish with fresh veggies. This recipe was inspired by a traditional Thai Noodle dish that would call for peanuts. We substituted peanuts with raw almond butter, a much healthier option with no aflatoxins. It’s important to use raw organic almond butter, as it makes a big difference in the flavor. When in doubt, add more almond butter!
