EDITOR’S WELCOME

WINTER STYLE ISSUE Welcome

to the Winter Style Issue, featuring two fabulous fashion shoots showcasing this season’s cosiest cover-ups for men and women. Other highlights of the issue include a sneak preview of the Saturdays’ show-stopping return to the Echo Arena, an interview with His & Hers’ favourite ‘Calendar Girl’, Lynda Bellingham and highlights from the North West’s social scene from award-winning networker Geniene Reese. As the temperature drops, the His & Hers team has been enthusiastically layering up with casual knits for her (as featured on p17) and perfect Parkas for him (see p44). As well as embracing winter’s comfort dressing, we’ve also been indulging in a spot of comfort eating at new Liverpool eatery Hannover St. Social (as featured on p25). Sensing that we were on the verge of ditching summer’s healthy eating plans and exercise regimes, as we slipped into something a little more comfortable, as we do at this time every year, we made a hasty call to the celebrities’ personal trainer of choice: Jane Grogan. Jane will be offering motivational tips to keep us all on the straight and narrow in the run up to Christmas in her new Fitness Focus column (see p22). Once Jane had coaxed us away from the biscuit tin and back to the gym, the next port of call was Tracey Bell’s Hanover Street salon, where we persuaded Tracey to share her advice for perking up our pale winter complexions and faking a healthy, youthful glow. Turns out we asked the right person, as we’ve already tried a few of Tracey’s tips (on p35) and can vouch for the fact that they work, even on post-party skin. We’ll be back next month with even more fashion inspiration, plus exclusive celebrity interviews and news from the North West. See you next month.

TheSaturdays’ Triumphant Return to the Echo Arena After a sell-out tour earlier this year and with the highly anticipated release of their new album this autumn, His & Hers is expecting big things from Frankie, Mollie, Una, Vanessa and Rochelle when they return to the Echo Arena, Liverpool, on 3rd December.

FETISH DRESSING

Think leather, lace, PVC, black and a daring edge. If you have a flair for something out of the ordinary, then this season, dare to be different.

Harvey Nichols’

Autumn/Winter Trends

OLD GUARD

A modern version of military wear creates a stereotypical British feel, with reds, blacks and deep greys. Double-breasted jackets lead the trend.

Following last month’s glamorous opening of Harvey Nichols’ pop-up food hall in Liverpool ONE, another chic invitation fluttered onto our desks. This time it was to Harvey Nichols’ autumn/winter fashion show. We sent young writer Danielle Brererton to report from the front row...

SPORTING STYLE:

AUTUMN BERRIES:

Berry shades are the pick of the season. With plums, purples, dark burgundy and blues, you can see all the fruits of the forest before you. The range creates a relaxed, yet sophisticated, feel.

Every sports-lover owns a tracksuit to keep fit and now it’s time for the catwalk to glitz it up a little. Dolce & Gabbana create the whole look including vest, gym pants, bag and trainers. Dolce not your style? Then you still have the likes of Prada, Paul Smith and Converse to choose from. For those crisp sunny mornings, add some smooth Ray-Bans.

WOMEN’S FASHION

STREET SMART From cosy knits to winter cover-ups, this month we’ve headed out to see which autumn trends are hotting up our high street. WORDS: HESTER BRODIE, PICTURES: ROBIN CLEWLEY

ERIN, 18,

Student Erin mixes high street and vintage to create her cool and quirky look. This oversized jacket was a fantastic find from Oxfam, which she’s teamed with a Topshop shirt and American Apparel skirt, accessorised with these Topshop boots and timeless tote bag from Zara.

18

IZZY, 21,

Student It would have been hard to miss Izzy walking down Bold Street in her colourful combination of family cast-offs. This cute checked jacket was her grandma’s, the top was her mum’s and her skirt was borrowed from a costume cupboard. Fantastic style for a thrifty student!

JENNIFER, 19,

Student Car boot junkie Jennifer loves to mix high street with vintage and her magpie eye is clearly well trained! We loved this outfit of a vintage cape updated with American Apparel jeans, ASOS ankle boots and a cute doctor’s bag, foraged from a recent car boot.

KATIE, 19,

Student “Let the coat do the talking” is a very good rule and at just 19 Katie has picked this up pretty early on. We loved her cute leopard print coat from New Look, teamed with this simple navy Zara dress, opaque tights and on-trend brogues - top marks, Katie!

LOTTIE, 19,

Student We love cosy knitwear and Lottie’s River Island jumper is great for this time of year as lighter coloured knitwear doesn’t look as heavy during the autumn months. Teaming the jumper with denim shorts and tights also gives the look an cosy, autumnal feel without being too wintery.

MELISSA, 24,

Student Taking her maxi skirt into winter is tricky but brave. However, Melissa teams her skirt with a cropped fur jacket from Frocks, leaving some forearm exposed to give her outfit a lighter feel. We’re also loving the colour splash of that cute Topshop bag!

ERIN’S PENDANT’S FROM VIVIENNE WESTWOOD, SO HEAD TO CAVERN WALKS TO GET YOUR HANDS ON A SIMILAR VERSION. ALTERNATIVELY, IF THIS ISN’T QUITE IN YOUR BUDGET, WE’VE FOUND THIS LITTLE GEM AT ACCESSORIZE FOR UNDER £10. NECKLACE, £9, ACCESSORIZE

WE’RE LOVING ALL THE ANKLE BOOTS THAT ARE AROUND AT THE MOMENT, AND THEY’RE PERFECT FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. SO WE SUGGEST YOU INVEST NOW IN A PAIR LIKE THESE FROM BERTIE - WE’VE GOT A FEELING YOU WON’T TAKE THEM OFF ALL SEASON! BOOTS, £115, BERTIE.

LUCKILY, ERIN BOUGHT THIS BAG RECENTLY SO IT’S STILL IN THE SHOPS, AND WORKS WELL BOTH FOR WORK AND LEISURE, SO GET DOWN TO ZARA AND GRAB THIS TIMELESS CLASSIC BEFORE IT’S GONE. BAG, £79.99, ZARA

S teal her style

a This month we’ve chosen 18-year-old Erin’s outfit as our favourite so we’ve once again given Women’s Style Editor Hester Brodie the job of sourcing a similar outfit just for you!

KEEPING WITH THE VINTAGE FEEL IS THIS CUTE SHEER BLOUSE; BUTTON IT UP FOR THE ULTIMATE IN GRANNY CHIC, OR WEAR OPEN LIKE ERIN FOR A YOUTHFUL LAIDBACK FEEL. SHIRT, £35, MARKS & SPENCER.

UNFORTUNATELY, AS ERIN’S JACKET WAS AN OXFAM BARGAIN, WE COULDN’T FIND THAT EXACT ONE FOR YOU. HOWEVER, THIS APTLY NAMED ‘GRANDMA JACKET’ BY SISTER JANE AT TOPSHOP FILLS THAT LITTLE HOLE IN OUR FASHION-LOVING HEARTS. JACKET, £95, SISTER JANE AT TOPSHOP.

WE ALL LOVE A BARGAIN, AND THIS CUTE PLEATED SKIRT FROM MATALAN IS JUST £14 - DEFINITELY A PURSEFRIENDLY PURCHASE. SKIRT, £14, MATALAN

Winning women We caught up with three young entrepreneurs who are making their business dreams a reality. WOrDS: HannaH ramsay, PHOTOGraPHY BY: robin Clewley

Laura O’COnnOr In the roller-coaster year since Laura O’Connor founded Laura’s Little Bakery, she’s baked for Steven Gerrard, raised thousands for charity by selling her cupcakes and won the admiration of some of the North West’s most established chefs and restaurateurs. Not bad for someone who confesses: “A year ago I didn’t think I was starting up a business – I just thought I was supplying a few local companies with cakes.” Not only did Laura have no plans to launch her own company, she’d also made her mind up to steer clear of baking the very items for which she has ultimately become renowned – cupcakes! “I’ve been passionate about cooking for a long time,” says Laura, “but I wasn’t interested in making cupcakes, because everyone was doing it.” However, following a request from her daughter, Phoebe, for birthday cupcakes, Laura rustled up a batch of intricately decorated treats and found that she enjoyed the challenge of creating cakes that looked as good as they tasted. Soon Laura was baking small batches of cakes for local companies such as Bold Street Coffee and Dafna’s Cheesecake Factory. Word spread about the quality of her cakes and within months, celebrities including LFC star Steven Gerrard and TV chef Simon Rimmer were placing orders. Laura said: “Baking for Steven Gerrard was a definite career highlight, as I’m a big Liverpool supporter, but every week something will happen that makes you think ‘wow.’” Recent achievements include raising almost £7,000 for Marie Curie by holding a tea party, baking cakes for some of the North West s most glamorous launch parties, and being praised by several of the region’s most established chefs and restaurateurs. So what are Laura’s plans for the little bakery with a big future? She’s remaining

20

tight-lipped, but will say: “I never want the company to become so big that the quality of the cakes is compromised. I don’t think I’ll become a millionaire doing this – I’m just happy to be earning a comfortable living doing something I love.” www.lauraslittlebakery.com

Ever been on a night out and forgotten your lip-gloss? Well worry not, as now it seems there’s a solution in the form of Trendy Vend… Trendy Vend was thought up by sisters Kayleigh and Talia Baccino, perhaps unsurprisingly on a night out! There they noticed women, including themselves, borrowing cosmetics and hairspray off each other. “It was then we thought it would be a great idea to have a machine that provided all of these emergency products”. But they didn’t stop there, as then came the addition of a screen, on which brands can advertise their products. “It’s completely unique, allowing brands to play their TV adverts and vend their product to customers at the same time.” So what makes their idea so appealing to their target market? “Well, we are the target market for our product! Sometimes you go out after work unplanned so it’s great to have a facility that lets you touch up and feel like you can stay out.” The duo had always wanted to go into

business, so while both were studying Marketing at university, Trendy Vend was born. Now Trendy Vend machines can be found in bars and clubs across the UK, but it’s not just for women. After spotting a gap in the market for a male version, there are now Trendy Vend machines For Him, containing essentials such as hair wax. Every day is different for the sisters, who can be found in the office sending emails, or in the factory signing off new batches of machines. “That’s what we enjoy most about our job though, the fact that every day is different and varied.” One thing’s for sure, Trendy Vend is rapidly growing. They’re rolling out the machines on a national basis and are working with some of the best bars countrywide. Plus, they’re signing up some of the biggest names in the cosmetics industry to supply products and advertise on Trendy TV. So look out for a Trendy Vend machine for Him or Her, in a bar near you very soon! www.trendyvend.co.uk

ING INTRODUC

JANE GROGAN’S FITNESS FOCUS

Every month, our new fitness columnist Jane Grogan, who has helped a host of celebrities and athletes stay in shape with her carefully tailored personal training sessions, will be sharing her exercise tips.

I

f you live in Liverpool, there’s a good chance that you’ve already heard of Jane Grogan, or attended one of her Hot Yoga and Pilates classes at Yoga Nation, which are a sell-out with the city’s movers and shakers and fitness loving fashionistas. Jane has forged a successful business offering health and fitness solutions to a range of clients including those with a high profile such as premiership footballers and athletes whom she has helped. Jane is tight-lipped about her celebrity clients, but says that helping many of them to recover from long-standing issues, such as back pain, and improve their overall fitness and flexibility is enormously rewarding. Jane explained: “I trained as a professional dancer from the age of four to 18 and that was what gave me my shape. After going to university and finding myself dancing less, eventually I was investing more time into yoga and pilates and it made sense to make a career out of my passion. I retrained in relevant areas and started my own health, fitness and life coaching company – OneSelf’. Jane saw an opportunity to be the North West’s first hot pilates teacher when Yoga Nation – a hot yoga studio opened in Liverpool earlier this year. With dedicated followers that include tennis ace Andy Murray, supermodel Elle McPherson, James Bond star Daniel Craig and Madonna, Hot yoga and pilates provides a full body workout that engages your body and mind. Performed in temperatures that range up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, hot yoga improves flexibility, reduces risk of injury and removes toxins from your body by delivering an intense low impact workout which can burn over 600 calories in just one class. Don’t miss Jane’s easy-to-follow monthly exercise advice starting from the next issue. Or call into one of her classes at Yoga Nation or her new ‘Retrorobics’ classes (which Jane describes as a fun approach to fitness and a musical journey through the decades, fusing dance and exercise – from the lindy hop to the running man) which will be starting from mid-November at Victoria Street Studios. For more info on the classes and the difference between the two please contact Yoga Nation. For Jane’s full class time-table, queries about personalised fitness or further info, visit: www.one-self. co.uk or email: jane@one-self.co.uk, Twitter: @janegrogan.

His&hers dines out

The Liverpool Empire’s Café Welcome to Liverpool’s hidden gem - an unassuming café where simple honest home cooking takes centre stage.

P

re-theatre dining can be tricky to plan. Book your table too early and you risk waiting around for a play to start, book too late and you’ll find yourself flustered and rushing through three courses before curtains up. And what if you’re dashing straight from the office and simply don’t have time to dress up for dinner? After years of enquiries from theatre goers who wanted to know where they could find simply prepared, unpretentious fresh food before shows, the team at the Empire decided the time was right to open their own café within the theatre. When His & Hers visited their café bar they

24

were serving freshly prepared sandwiches, paninis and hot meals to the lunchtime crowd. Sheltering from the drizzle outside, we opted for some classic winter comfort food in the form of a piping hot panini and a tender lamb shank; not as fancy as the usual pre-theatre treats you may have tucked into, but undeniably fast, tasty and served with a delicious green salad and home-made relishes. If it’s pomp and ceremony you’re after, this simple café is not for you, but if you appreciate classic hot dishes, cooked well and served quickly and without fuss, then we’d heartily recommend paying The Liverpool Empire’s Café a visit. www.liverpoolempire.org.uk

Hanover St. Social

When Hanover Street’s hotly anticipated new restaurant opened last month, the His & Hers restaurant reviewers were the first guests through the door. We really don’t believe in hanging around when it comes to fine dining!

F

irst impressions were encouraging; the cosy chic interior design, paired with a warm welcome from the waiters, combined to create a relaxed ambiance. Soon the restaurant was filled with the gentle hum of conversation from fellow diners, a soothing soundtrack as we perused the menu. His & Hers’ choices: rock oysters served with a flourish on crushed ice, and an endive, Roquefort cheese, poached pear and walnut salad, were fresh, tasty and immaculately presented. Desserts (including the popular lemon posset and apple and rhubarb crumble) are also served prettily and unpretentiously and are best enjoyed

with one of Hanover St. Social’s excellent coffees. My dining companion complimented the quality and freshness of the ingredients used, while I was particularly impressed by the chic presentation and attention to detail. So impressed, in fact, that I have returned to the restaurant several times to sample their tasty breakfast menu, which is proving a hit with city dwellers seeking something a little more sophisticated than the usual coffee chain caffeine fix. Competition may be fierce amongst Liverpool’s restaurants, but with food, service and an ambiance this good we have a feeling that Hanover St. Social is here to stay! www.hanoverstreetsocial.co.uk

North West Cancer Research Fund’s Fourth Annual Ball

His & Hers’ Social Diary: roundup A summary of the month’s events & happenings in brief.

The fourth annual Butterfly Ball took place last month, raising £10,000 for North West Cancer Research Fund. The event, held in Liverpool’s landmark Metropolitan Cathedral, raised funds for fundamental research in the North West of England and Wales into the causes of cancer and how it spreads. Guests were welcomed into the spectacular Concert Room for pre-dinner elderflower cocktails with music from Notre Dame Catholic College Quartet, whilst jugglers and medieval musicians entertained guests during the three-course meal in the vaulted Crypt Hall.

Hollyoaks cast raise more than £100,000 for local children’s charities Some of Hollyoaks most popular characters took to the stage last month to entertain over 300 people at the Hollyoaks Ball, which took place at Chester Racecourse. The glitzy event was organised by programme makers, Lime Pictures, and was supported by many of the Hollyoaks cast.

The Hollyoaks Ball, now in its fourth year, has established itself as one of the city’s most prestigious events, attracting many of Chester’s high profile businesses. Last month’s extravaganza included a fantastic musical showcase from members of the Hollyoaks cast and a glamorous charity auction.

Gok Wan returns to Liverpool ONE

One of His & Hers’ favourite fashion gurus (and recent cover stars), Gok Wan returned to Liverpool ONE to film an episode of his new series, Gok’s Clothes RoadShow, last month. Gok and his travelling catwalk drew a massive crowd of style-loving Liverpudlians who turned out in force to watch the runway shows and judge his fashion picks. Gok was last at Liverpool ONE in November 2010 as part of the previous series of Gok’s Clothes RoadShow, where he praised Liverpool girls for their style.

Malmaison Liverpool’s Show-Stopping Re-launch

Merseyside’s movers and shakers partied into the early hours with a bevy of TV and radio stars at Malmaison Liverpool’s glittering relaunch party. A total of 400 lucky guests were treated to the Malmaison’s famous cocktails, free-flowing champagne and mouth-watering local delicacies. Celebrity guests included Corrie’s Michelle Keegan and Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe. The actresses are currently battling it out to win the title of ‘Sexiest Female’ at the Inside Soap Awards, but put aside professional rivalries for a night of indulgence at one of Liverpool’s most famous hotels. Hotel General Manager Helen Caters said: “Malmaison parties are notorious and we wanted to be sure to give Liverpool a big treat to celebrate our new look.”

Society Wedding

Steven Lally grew up in Merseyside, completed his Master’s Degree at Birmingham and became a professional writer: he has worked with Liverpool’s Unity Theatre and Upstart Theatre in London and has penned thought provoking plays on policing, politics and the media. He was very recently married wearing a statement Paul Smith suit. His bride, Zoe Price, looked radiant in an artful elegant dress of her own design.

High Heeled Guide to Networking

Award-winning networker and businesswoman Geniene Reese is back with the latest from the region’s social scene.

A

s expected, September kicked off with a bang, so much so that I have had to hotfoot it between events on the same evening on more than one occasion! Liverpool Food & Drink Festival had a fabulous turnout and I was very naughty, eating Franklins Deli Burgers, which were the dish of the day, coupled with the tasters of the new Magners cider. Next up was the re-launch of The Wedding House. With over 30 wedding-related companies based in this stunning gothic building, if I had a sniff of a diamond solitaire, I’d be there faster than a racehorse out of the stalls at Aintree! Then it was onto Downtown in Business’ ‘Sexy Networking’ at the Sir Thomas Hotel. The Livercool award nominees were announced, so be sure to vote for me for ‘Social Media Guru’ and my lovely assistant Charlotte Hoare for ‘Sexy Networker’. Your Business Ezine held their ‘Branching Out’ morning networking meeting at Leaf Café on Bold Street, a great place to make new contacts. I visited Hope Street Feast, where there were some

32

great stalls, bands and entertainment, then went to Hanover Street Social, the chic new offering from the owners of Salt House Tapas, for breakfast networking. I was thrilled to be invited to ‘The Essence of Jewellery’ event to celebrate the success of the new Wongs Jewellers shop. A glamorous evening combining two of most women’s favourite things: champagne and diamonds. Next was the launch of Heswall bar, the Sandon Arms. The pub lost its identity in recent years, but it’s now back to its former glory, offering traditional homecooked food in a warm, comfortable environment. Finally, I was eager to see the results of all the hard work on the iconic Malmaison Hotel, Princes Dock. After more nips and tucks than Sharon Osbourne, the stunning interior did not disappoint and I look forward to returning for cocktails at their revamped bar. www.genienereese.com

Geniene will be back with more from the social scene next month.

Tracey Bell’s

Age Defying

Skincare Secrets

Leading cosmetic dentist and skincare expert Tracey Bell is the woman the celebs turn to to turn back the clock. This month His & Hers persuaded Tracey to spill a few of the skincare secrets that keep her star clients looking radiant.

1

My top anti-ageing tip is to avoid the sun or use sun screen. It’s the simplest way to look younger for longer without the need for cosmetic intervention.

2

Secondly, while it’s good to use an eye cream, many people rub them in too vigorously, dragging the skin around the eye, which can do more harm than good. Pat, don’t rub, and don’t use too much product. Lots of my clients apply far too much moisturiser, so we see milia (tiny white bumps on the skin) a lot, and they’re very hard to get rid of.

3

Prevention is better than cure, so tackle issues when they first arise. For example, if you’re starting to notice skin pigmentation or redness, ask us about the kind of treatments we can offer in your lunch break today, rather than waiting till you’re really unhappy and saving up for a more radical treatment. I don’t know about you, but I don’t

want a new face – I just want to hold on to what I’ve got for as long as possible!

4

Find a simple skincare regime (ideally incorporating UV protection) which suits you.

5

Remember that we don’t just age because of external factors – there are intrinsic factors, too. Looking at your mother or grandmother will give you an idea of how your skin will age without intervention.

6

Stress, smoking, sun damage and excess alcohol consumption will all take their toll, so try to drink in moderation – a healthy lifestyle will show in your complexion.

7

And finally, never underestimate the importance of exfoliation. Skin cells don’t shed as rapidly after 30, so exfoliation is key to keeping your complexion looking fresh after this age. www.traceybell.co.uk

His&hers skincare HYDROPLENISH 28G - £34 – WWW.TRACEYBELL.CO.UK This is the most synergistic complex we reviewed with a unique blend of exclusive antioxidants, including sunflower seed oil, jojoba seed oil and the antiviral Resveratrol, found in grapes. This fruity cream is balanced with black tea ferment, which promotes smoothness, radiance and colour. A holistic product that replenishes and shields the skin effectively.

COOLING AFTERSHAVE MOISTURISER 30ML - £80 – NUBO This is the optimum post-shave solution, providing an instant cooling sensation for sensitive skin, and targeting dryness and irritation. The nonsticky formula is easily absorbed and provides long-lasting hydration.

Gents’ Grooming To groom, or not to groom? With a little help from our readers, Men’s Editor, Luke Trevaskis, road tests some of the latest products to hit the market. ECOLOGICAL COMPOUND 50ML - £78 – SISLEY With hops, ginseng and horsetail plant extracts selected for their stimulating action, this product promotes supple skin and helps restore a natural radiance to tired and sun damaged skin.

M LOTION 100ML - £21 WWW.CLINIQUE.CO.UK As one of the pioneering beauty brands to bring moiturising to men, there is not much Clinique can do wrong. This product is one of the cheapest we reviewed and provided essential hydration plus daily UV protection; a dual-purpose product for all skin types.

36

With so many lotions and potions now available for men, it can be difficult to see through the grooming forest. To help you see the wood for the trees, I will take this opportunity bimonthly to take you through a selection of products that will suit a variety of skin types. This month, our focus lies with replenishing our skin’s moisture. Rewind a decade and there were few men that would admit to moisturising. Today, I can say that I do not know one of my friends that does not! It is important to keep our skin hydrated to ensure healthy tissue repair. Dehydrated skin has a decreased capacity for repair and regeneration, making it more susceptible to wrinkles and various forms of skin damage.

STREET SMART

With winter setting in, a very well wrapped-up Style Editor, Luke Trevaskis, hit the streets this month to see what you men were covering up in. words and pictures: Luke Trevaskis

Sam, 21

History Student After an initial chase, we finally caught up with Sam who was running late for the Labour conference. With his River Island top, Topman pants, Vans shoes and French Connection jacket, he certainly must add some style to those history lectures. Historians watch out - there’s a new guy in town!

42

Festus, 19

Engineering Student Giving a lesson in dichromatic pairing, Festus is an exemplar of how to contrast electric and black. Complementing his skin tone, we have Topman to thank for his intense blue clothing and black gilet. His black Zara slip-ons and black Gucci belt help to separate the tonal colour providing a successful blockpanel effect.

Will, 25

Performer Having just performed in ‘We Will Rock You’ at Liverpool’s Empire, you would think this star of the stage would be far too fatigued for fashion. But no! Rocking us just as much off stage, Will pairs his Superdry boots and Replay pants with an Armani t-shirt and Fossil watch.

Martin, 20

English Student One of the quickest styles to put together, this sweater-and-pants look is certainly a firm favourite of mine for those days when my more adventurous side prefers to hibernate. With both items from Topman and the shoe staple of all students, Converse, this look is suitable for a variety of occasions.

Samuel, 31

Bellini PR With this casual Italian preparing for the grand opening of Bellini, the new Italian restaurant and cocktail bar on Whitechapel, we managed to grab him for a few minutes of fashion interrogation. With the exception of the Ed Hardy cap, his outfit is courtesy of Italian fashion house Morato. Welcome to Liverpool Bellini!

Calum, 17

Student Strolling down Church Street, this teenager is clearly not only a high-flier in the classroom! With his Topman pullover and pants, River Island shoes and French Connection glasses, Calum blends high-street and statement pieces perfectly with this traditional Portobello Road Satchel.

This classic black Wakko Gilet by Diesel serves both a practical and fashionable investment at £140.

S teal his style

Black is commonly paired with yellow this season, but we like Festus’s choice of a blue accent colour. This combination is just as intense in other vivid colours – experiment with red, green and purple. WORDS Luke Trevaskis

Forming the foundation of the look, these Monkee electric blue skinny jeans are available in a variety of colours. £50, Topman.

As winter is setting in, make sure you keep yourself warm with this trendy beanie. £8, Topman.

Although often considered a summer shoe, Ros Loafers can add style to any winter look when boots would be too heavy. £99, Hugo Boss.

ier

d s

nt s Multi eyelet belts can create both in tailored and trendy looks. This black belt separates the torso and legs providing the distinct sections of colour that make this ensemble. £24, Topman.

Despite Festus braving the elements in this short sleeve version, I would opt for something with a little more arm coverage for autumn. Crew neck, £20, Reiss.
