familiar places, familiar tastes, and familiar sounds. As you can see the destinations listed above are concretely embedded in the Hispanic associations' psyche. But perhaps it is time to leave our comfort zone and explore the possibilities of destinations less traveled that can host our Hispanic conferences and meetings. For example, did you know that the city of Baltimore's Convention Center is just feet away from the city's Inner Harbor allowing meeting attendees easy and quick access to top notch restaurants, shopping and first-class hotels. Turn to page 12 for the information you need to plan your next conference in the centrally located Mid-Atlantic city of Baltimore. When we picture meeting in New Mexico we automatically think of Albuquerque, the largest city in the state. But an hour and a half train ride on the New Mexico Rail Runner Express can get you and your meeting attendees to the majestic city of Santa Fe with about a $10 ticket. Most convention goers would jump at the chance to meet in the highest elevation state capital in the country at 7,199 feet above sea level (higher than Denver). The crisp mountain air, whimsical architecture and enduring Spanish history can make any meeting or convention an invigorating and memorable one in Santa Fe. Turn to page 10 to see what is new in Santa Fe. And, let's re-envision our meeting destinations' map.

s we enter into Hispanic Heritage month that runs from September 15 to October 15 many Latino associations will be holding their annual meetings and conventions. Many of these events will be held in traditional meeting destinations, the Hispanic "comfort zone", if you will, that attract our community year after year. Cities like Washington, D.C., Miami and Albuquerque are concrete choices for Hispanic meeting planners and states like California and Texas are must-go-to locations for national associations. This year is no different. Just take a look at some of the top conventions being held across the country:

eginning summer 2017, guests at Disney California Adventure Park will join in a daring confrontation with one of the most unusual characters in the park's history: Tanaleer Tivan, the Collector. He has opened his unique collection of fauna, relics and species to guests for a special tour culminating with his latest prized possessions: the Guardians of the Galaxy, themselves! Fortunately, Rocket has a plan to free his friends and that plan includes recruiting Disneyland Resort guests in a sensational rescue effort. This comically cosmic, rocking new adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! is the result of a collaboration between the creative minds behind the comic books, the films and Walt Disney Imagineering. The attraction will drop guests directly into the story alongside characters from the comic books and the blockbuster films. Joe Rohde, Portfolio Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering, is leading the project. He shared this preview of the new attraction: "The setting is a kind of fortress that's owned

by the mysterious Collector and it's packed with creatures and his latest acquisitions from across the universe. Now he has imprisoned the Guardians of the Galaxy and they're hanging in display cases over a giant abyss. The captor doesn't know it but Rocket Raccoon has escaped and is enlisting our aid-all the gueststo help the Guardians in a breakout scheme. And the rest is comical chaos; a very funny, very irreverent story and a really wonderful addition to Disney California Adventure." "It's such a thrill to be working alongside a true visionary like Joe Rohde and the entire Walt Disney Imagineering team," said Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer, Marvel. "Like our stories and characters, projects led by Joe are the stuff of legend, so Marvel fans rejoice! The universe couldn't be in better hands! Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! is going to be an out of this world experience and what has me even more excited are Joe's 'secret' plans for the future. We're just getting warmed up." The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con by Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, who said: "The incredibly talented Disney Imagineering team has found a way to harness the spirit which drove Guardians of the Galaxy's success to create this immersive experience. With its debut timed to the release

of the film's sequel, we are eager to present the attraction to the millions who visit Disney California Adventure and place them in the center of the action as they join in a mission alongside our audacious Guardians of the Galaxy team." Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! takes place in the fortress-like museum of the mysterious Collector, who has trapped his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy. One member of the group, the intrepid Rocket, has escaped, and he calls upon brave visitors for help. Guests board a gantry lift which launches them into a daring adventure as they join Rocket in an attempt to set free his fellow Guardians. The new attraction will anchor a broader universe of Super Heroes that will grow over time in Disney California Adventure Park. Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! will transform the structure currently housing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ into an epic new adventure, enhancing the breathtaking free fall sensation with new visual and audio effects to create a variety of ride experiences. "We are very proud and excited about the completion of the dramatic renovation and redesign of our 18-hole championship golf course," Parsons said. "The redesign is a unique collaboration between the greatest player of all time Jack Nicklaus, who also is one of the world's most celebrated golf course designers, and the very talented John Sanford. It truly has been a pleasure to see them collaborate on this totally new, par-71 course, which features five tees, ranging from 4,800 yards to over 6,900 yards. Our guests, groups, and golfers of every skill level will absolutely love the truly beautiful new course." Golf Course Architect John Sanford said, "The course has been redesigned to challenge the best players but also be enjoyable for all golfers. The course will play 'firm and fast' and will drain well, so the ball will roll, adding distance to drives and allowing golfers to play running shots into the greens. The greens are open in front for this purpose, and they have gentle contours to allow for multiple hole locations while challenging each player. The golf course is also more open now, with palm trees added to extend the beachfront feeling of the resort. We are very excited about the reopening of the course in November." "The completion of this renovation will bring our golf course in line with the rest of our AAA Four-Diamond resort and enhance the overall guest and group experience," said Henry B. Watkins, co-owner of the resort. "The added bonus of having Mr. Nicklaus collaborate on the redesign of the course where he first broke 40 for nine holes is wonderful, and further enriches the deep history of our property." A consistent recipient of many of the meeting industry's top honors, The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club is Southwest Florida's only beachfront resort with an on-site championship golf course, a world-class spa, and an award-winning tennis center. The 319-room resort also features 34,000 square feet of meeting space and a variety of picturesque outdoor venues for receptions and events. Venue options include the 6,283square-foot River of Grass Ballroom; the Gulf-view The Everglades Room ballroom; the 2,457-square-foot Mangrove Ballroom; and such scenic outdoor venues as the Watkins Lawn.

Dramatic Renovation of The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club Golf Course In Southwest Florida Nearing Completion

T

he Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club in Southwest Florida is nearing completion of the dramatic renovation - almost reinvention - of its championship golf course. The course at the AAA Four-Diamond resort is being redesigned with input from golf icon and acclaimed course designer Jack Nicklaus, who has a historical tie to the resort. The Jack Nicklaus redesign is being done in collaboration with noted course architect John Sanford. This major $9 million project follows $50 million in impressive renovations and enhancements at the resort over the last few years. The total redesign of the 125-acre resort's course began in April, and the entire project will be complete this November, with the course fully operational and reopening on November 17, 2016, according to the beachfront resort's General Manager Jason Parsons. According to Parsons, this is almost a month ahead of schedule. Jack Nicklaus is helping to celebrate his past and that of The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club by reshaping the future of this iconic golf course. It was in 1951, on a family vacation to Naples, Florida, and a friendly round of golf alongside his father, that the Ohio native accomplished the very impressive feat of first breaking 40 over nine holes on the resort's course, shooting a 37. At just 11 years old, he came within a shot of shooting par, and just one year after he picked up golf clubs for the first time. This round, in particular, is what drew Nicklaus to the project - the scorecard is even archived in the Jack Nicklaus Museum, the 24,000-square-foot facility on the campus of The Ohio State University. "Being back at The Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club is like a walk down memory lane for me," Nicklaus said. "Returning to the same course where I broke 40, with my father by my side, brings back a lot of very special and very fond memories. At the same time, I am enjoying 16 HM&T | Hispanic Meetings & Travel
