ACT I
第一幕
SCENE I – CHRISTMAS EVE AT THE STAHLBAUM HOUSE
第一場：斯塔鮑姆家的平安夜
Clara, Fritz and their parents are decorating the Christmas Tree together when Uncle Drosselmeyer arrives with the children’s Christmas present. He places it beside the tree and unwraps it, revealing a large dollhouse. Upstairs in the children´s bedroom, Uncle Drosselmeyer reads them a story about a brave Nutcracker, a beautiful Ballerina and an evil Rat. The Nutcracker and Ballerina were in love and ruled peacefully over their Kingdom as royalty. One day, an evil Rat hoping to be king, stole the crown from The Nutcracker and froze the Ballerina. The Nutcracker was forced from his throne and exiled. According to the prophecy, he will remain in exile until the day he can defeat the Rat King in a great battle and save his Ballerina love. While the family sleeps, Fritz sneaks downstairs to play with the dollhouse but is interrupted when two mice appear and drag him inside. Realising that her favourite doll Clärchen is still downstairs, Clara goes downstairs to find her.
嘉麗、費 殊和他們的父 母正忙著 一起裝飾聖誕 樹，杜西米爾叔叔帶著為小孩 親手 製作的一 份 大禮 物來 到，把它 放 到聖 誕 樹下，然 後 將之 拆 開，原來是一間偌大的玩具屋。 在樓上的小孩臥 室裏，杜西米爾叔叔為孩子講 故事。這 是 一 個 關於勇敢 的胡 桃 夾子、美 麗的 芭蕾公主和邪惡老鼠的故事： 「胡桃夾子和芭蕾公主深愛對方，兩人都是王國 的皇族，一起統治這個和平的國度。有一天，一 隻邪惡的老鼠王想試試做皇帝的滋味，於是從胡 桃 夾子身上偷 走了皇 冠，又 把芭 蕾 公主 冰 封 起 來。胡桃夾子被逼放棄皇位，更被逐出王國。預 言說，胡桃夾子會這樣流亡下去，直到一天，他能 夠打敗老鼠王，救出他心愛的芭蕾公主為止。」 當家人入睡之後，費殊偷偷走到樓下，把玩杜西 米爾叔叔的玩具屋。突然，兩隻小老鼠出現，並 將費殊拖入玩具屋內。此時，嘉麗知道她最愛的 玩偶嘉晴仍然 在樓下，於是下去找她。 玩具屋的門神秘 打開，嘉麗被吸 進去。
The door to the dollhouse mysteriously opens, and Clara is drawn inside.

SCENE II – INSIDE THE DOLLHOUSE
第二場：玩具屋內
Clara’s favourite doll Clärchen and her family are celebrating Christmas together with a Christmas feast. Their celebration is interrupted when Clara suddenly appears inside the dollhouse. On their arrival in the dollhouse, Clara immediately recognises Clärchen. Clärchen’s family begins reenacting Uncle Drosselmeyer’s bedtime story and presents Clara with a very special Christmas gift – the Ballerina’s shoes. Clärchen’s grandmother explains that the shoes will help Clara fulfil the prophecy to reunite The Nutcracker with the Ballerina. The dolls get carried away, forgetting about their guest until they find her asleep in an armchair. Retiring to bed, they leave Clara sleeping in the living room.
嘉麗最喜歡的玩偶嘉晴正與其家人一起享用聖 誕 大 餐。嘉麗 突 然出現 在 玩 具 屋內，打擾了這 頓慶祝聖誕節的聚餐。 嘉麗馬上認出了嘉晴。嘉晴一家開始重演杜西米 爾叔叔剛才講的故事，然後給嘉麗送上一份特別 的聖誕禮物，是芭蕾公主的一雙舞鞋。嘉晴的祖 母說，鞋子會幫助嘉麗，令胡桃夾子與芭蕾公主 重 逢，讓 預言成 真。玩偶們分心了，完全忘記了 嘉麗這位客人的存 在，到後 來才發現嘉麗在 扶 手椅上睡著了。是時候要睡覺了，嘉晴一家人留 下嘉麗在客廳裏繼續沉睡。 午夜時分，老鼠王和老鼠軍團闖進玩具屋。嘉麗 醒 後，嘉晴的祖母把芭蕾公主的一雙 舞 鞋塞進 她的手裏，著她從速逃走，嘉麗在黑夜中逃亡， 沒有被老鼠捉到。
At the stroke of midnight, the Rat King and his loyal mice enter the Dollhouse. When Clara wakes up, she finds Clärchen’s Grandmother forcing the Ballerina's shoes into her hands and ushering her to safety outside. Clara flees into the night avoiding capture.

SCENE III – THE GREAT BATTLE, UNDERNEATH THE CHRISTMAS TREE
第三場：聖誕樹下的大戰
As Clara runs through the darkness, she thinks she sees Fritz in the distance and runs towards him. Meanwhile, as soldiers prepare to battle the mice, they find Clara and bring her to The Nutcracker, whom she recognizes from the stories. The Nutcracker urges her to stay behind where she will be safe, but to avoid capture by the mice, she ignores his advice and follows behind them. The Great Battle begins as the Rat King and The Nutcracker begin to fight. Clara sees that mice are holding Fritz hostage and calls out to him. The Nutcracker is momentarily distracted, allowing the Rat King to freeze him. Terrified, Clara hits the Rat King on the head with the ballerina shoes, as Fritz picks up The Nutcracker’s sword in defence. A dazed Rat King stumbles forward onto the sword and collapses. With the battle over, Clara cradles the frozen body of The Nutcracker. Seeing her brother in shock, Clara leaves The Nutcracker’s side and rushes to him. Realising that Clara is upset too, Fritz pulls her away from The Nutcracker to comfort her.
嘉麗在夜裏飛奔，彷彿在遠處看見費殊，於是便 朝向他的方向跑過去。與此同時，士兵們正準備 和老鼠軍團作戰。他們發現了嘉麗，於是把她帶 到胡桃夾子面前。嘉麗馬上認出了這位在杜西米 爾叔叔故事裏的胡桃夾子。他吩咐嘉麗留在安全 的後方，可是嘉麗一想到可能身處險境的費殊，便 不顧胡桃夾子的勸告，靜靜的跟在士兵們後面。 如箭在弦，老鼠王與胡桃夾子的大戰即將展開。 嘉麗看到費殊被老鼠軍團脅持，大叫他的名字， 卻因此令胡桃夾子分了神，老鼠王有機可乘，馬 上把胡桃夾子冰封起來。嘉麗大驚，隨即把芭蕾 公主的一雙舞 鞋 扔向老鼠王的頭部，扔向老鼠 王的頭部，費 殊則趁 機 拿起了胡桃 夾子的佩 劍 自衛。暈 眩 的 老 鼠 王 退後了幾 步，跌 在 胡 桃 夾 子的劍上倒地。 戰事告一段落，嘉麗把僵化了的胡桃夾子抱在懷 裏。嘉麗看見費殊受了驚，便放下胡桃夾子，跑到 費殊身邊。費殊不忍看見嘉麗如此傷感，便拉她 離開胡桃夾子，二人因再次重聚而稍感安慰。 老鼠餘黨不再受老鼠王控制了，於是把老鼠王偷 來的皇冠送給費殊，以示友好，費殊把皇冠交回 它的主人胡桃夾子。
No longer under the control of the Rat King, the remaining mice give Fritz the Rat King’s stolen crown as a peace offering. Fritz returns the crown to its rightful owner, The Nutcracker.
漫天雪花，嘉晴一家人走出玩具屋。嘉麗和費殊 知道要讓在聖誕樹頂的芭蕾公主與她深愛的胡 桃夾子團聚。
A flurry of snowflakes appear as Clärchen’s family tentatively begin to come outside the dollhouse. Clara and Fritz realise that they must reunite the Ballerina at the top of the Christmas Tree together with her beloved Nutcracker.
嘉麗、費 殊、嘉晴和士兵們，帶著胡桃夾子，開 展他們前往樹頂的長征。
Clara, Fritz, Clärchen and the soldiers carrying The Nutcracker embark on the long journey to the top.

SCENE I – THE JOURNEY UP THE CHRISTMAS TREE
第一場：聖誕樹頂之旅
As they climb higher and higher, the frozen dolls on the Christmas Tree begin to come to life. 他們一步一步愈走愈高，往樹頂進發。聖誕樹上 原本被僵化了的玩偶漸漸甦醒。
SCENE II – THE TOP OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE
第二場：聖誕樹頂
他們終於到達樹頂，才發現身邊都是沿途見過的 小玩偶。如預言般，聖誕樹旁的玩偶們，讓胡桃 夾子和心愛的芭蕾公主重聚了。胡桃夾子和芭蕾 公主彼此對望，老鼠王的魔法消失了，他們不再僵 硬恢復正常。然而受重傷的老鼠王突然出現，破 壞了二人短暫的重聚。老鼠王知道玩偶們不再怕 他，在倒下前嘗試再偷走胡桃夾子的皇冠，但沒 有成功，老鼠王掉到大樹底下。 王國終於真正恢復和平，芭蕾公主慶祝大家重獲 自由。王國的玩偶先後為嘉麗、費殊和嘉晴翩翩 起舞。正當大家繼續狂歡之際，片片飄雪幻化成 花朵，胡桃夾子和芭蕾公主的王國鮮花盛放，二 人雙雙回到聖誕樹頂。
SCENE III – CHRISTMAS MORNING AT THE STAHLBAUM HOUSE
第三場：斯塔鮑姆家的聖誕節早上 Arriving at the top, the travellers look around to see that they are surrounded by the dolls they passed on their way up the tree. The dolls from the Christmas tree reunite The Nutcracker with his Ballerina love and fulfill the prophecy. As The Nutcracker and the Ballerina look into each other’s eyes, the Rat King’s curse is lifted and they begin to return to normal. Their reunion is interrupted when a heavily wounded Rat King appears out of nowhere. Seeing his curse now broken, the Rat King realises the dolls of the kingdom no longer fear him and tries to steal the crown one last time before collapsing on the ground.
Clara and Fritz wake up beside their new dollhouse. At the top of the tree, the Ballerina and The Nutcracker now stand together, where they will reign over their kingdom forever. 聖誕節的早上，嘉麗和費殊在玩具屋旁邊醒來， 玩具屋內全是他們的好朋友，在斯塔鮑姆家的聖 誕樹頂，芭蕾公主和胡桃夾子肩並肩的站著，再 次統治他們的王國，直到永遠。
FINIS 全劇完
With peace in the kingdom finally assured, the Ballerina begins the celebration of the dolls’ freedom. The dolls from the kingdom take turns dancing for Clara, Fritz and Clärchen. As the revelr y continues, the snow flakes magically blossom into flowers. With their kingdom in full bloom, The Nutcracker and Ballerina return to their place on the top of the tree together.

Born in Sydney, Australia, dancer and choreographer Terence Kohler has performed many renowned works, most notably dancing Mercutio in the German premiere of Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet. In 2007, he was awarded the German Dance Prize “Future” for choreography, and in 2009, he was nominated for the prestigious Prix Benois de la Danse in Moscow.
Tchaikovsky is widely considered as one of the most popular Russian composers in history. From a young age, he demonstrated an incredible skill for melodic expression of strong emotion which contributed to his creation of symphonies, concertos, operas, ballets and more. His masterpieces of theatre works include the opera Eugene Onegin and the ballets The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. The intensity of his music has rendered his works revered with generations of music lovers.
Clair Sauran studied at Australia’s prestigious performing arts school The McDonald College and holds tertiary qualifications from Griffith University and the University of Technology Sydney.
Beyond his engagement as Choreographer in Residence at Bavarian State Ballet and participating in National Ballet of China’s first-ever Choreographic Workshop, Kohler has created new works for Royal Ballet of Flanders, Finnish National Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet and Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg. 舞蹈員兼 編舞家泰蘭斯‧科勒生 於 澳洲悉尼，曾演出多齣知名作品，並 以飾演麥美倫爵士《羅密歐與茱麗 葉》德國首演的馬克提歐為代表作。 他於2007年榮獲德國舞蹈大獎「未 來」編舞家獎。2009年，他獲得貝 諾瓦芭蕾舞大獎提名。 除了曾成為巴伐利亞國家芭蕾舞團 的駐團編舞家外，科勒曾參與中國 國家芭蕾舞團歷來首個編舞工作坊， 並為法蘭德斯皇家芭蕾舞團、芬蘭國 家芭蕾舞團、西澳州芭蕾舞團、香港 芭蕾舞團，以及德國萊茵芭蕾舞團等 編創新作。

She is a published journalist and has worked alongside Terence Kohler as Dramaturge and Creative Consultant for over a decade. With performances on three continents, their notable collaborations include The Temple Dancer with the State Theatre of Baden, Serie Noire A Choreographic Murder Mystery created for the Bavarian State Ballet, Cinderella – a Tragic Tale with the Finnish National Ballet and Helden an original three-act ballet created for Bavarian State Ballet. 克萊爾．索倫修讀 於澳洲著名演藝 學校麥克唐納學院，並持有澳洲格 里 菲 斯 大學及 悉 尼 科 技 大學 的 大 專學歷。 索倫是一位記者，為泰蘭斯．科勒擔 任編劇及創作顧問超過十年，合作 作品曾於三大洲上演。當中包括與 巴登國家劇院合 作的《 廟舞者》、 為慕尼黑巴伐 利亞芭蕾舞團創作 的《黑色系列：懸疑謀殺案》、為赫 爾芬蘭國家芭蕾舞團創作的《仙履 奇緣 ── 一 個 悲 劇》，以 及為巴伐 利亞國家芭蕾舞團的原創三幕歌 劇《英雄》。

Born in Lleida, Spain, Jordi Roig studied at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona. He has created sets and costumes for productions like Nureyev’s Swan Lake, Malakhov’s Die Bajadere, Maskenball, Cinderella and La Peri, Spoerli’s Coppelia, Les Indes Galantes and Don Quixote. Roig has worked for numerous directors, choreographers and companies, including Marcia Haydée, Vladimir Malakhov, Rudolf Nureyev, Heinz Spoerli, Manuel Legris, Terence Kohler, Stuttgart Ballet, Wiener Staatsoper, Staatsoper Dresden, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, and the Finnish National Opera, among others. He also collaborated with Terence Kohler in The Black Dress/The Riot of Spring for Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.
Born in Barcelona, Spain, David Bofarull assumed lighting designer in Vladimir Malakhov’s La Peri and Die Bajadere. He collaborated with different choreographers including Jo Stromgren, Karl Alfred Schreiner and Eduard Clug. With Terence Kohler, he worked in Daphnis und Chloe, Cinderella – a Tragic Tale and The Black Dress/The Riot of Spring.

Bofarull was nominated Best Lighting Design at 2007 Premis Butaca awards for his lighting of Caryl Churchill’s A Number and at 2015 Premios Max awards for his lighting of Terra Baixa. Jordi CASTELLS & Quique CONDE
Jordi Castells was born in Cardedeu and Quique Conde in Boltanya, Spain. The two Catalan artists usually work with the set designer Jordi Roig in productions like Die Bajadere, Don Quixote, La Péri, The Time of the Doves among others, and in theatres such as the Wiener Staatsoper, Staatsoper Berlin, Zürich Ballet, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya. 祖迪・卡斯特生於泰隆尼亞的鄉村 卡達迪奧，基克・孔德則生於西班牙 的博爾塔尼亞市。兩位加泰隆尼亞 藝術家經常與佈景及服裝設計師祖 迪・洛合作，包括《舞姬》 、 《唐吉訶 德》 、 《仙女》及《鑽石廣場》等製作， 以及為維也納國家歌劇院、柏林國家 歌劇院、蘇黎世芭蕾舞團、加泰隆尼 亞國家劇院等等設計佈景。

Since 1999, Hong Kong Sinfonietta has collaborated with an illustrious array of international musicians and groups, including in recent years Ilya Gringolts, Martin Helmchen, Sergei Nakariakov, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Krzysztof Penderecki, Mariinsky Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. The orchestra is a regular guest at international arts festivals and has toured 41 cities around the world. As Music Director of Orchestre de Pau Pays de Béarn in France since 2001, Fayçal Karoui has collaborated with artists such as Nelson Freire, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon. He was the Music Director of the New York City Ballet from 2006 to 2012 winning high praises from critics there: “One of the best reasons for watching City Ballet these days is listening, especially when its Music Director, Fayçal Karoui, is conducting.” (The New York Times) From 2012 to 2014, he was Music Director of Orchestre Lamoureux. As guest conductor, Karoui has been invited by the world’s top ballet companies such as Opéra National de Paris, Dutch National Ballet and Vienna’s Staatsballett. He has also conducted such prestigious orchestras as Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Accademia di Santa Cecilia di Roma and Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo. HKB ’s repertoire includes celebrated re-stagings of the classics by Nina Ananiashvili, Cynthia Harvey, Anna-Marie Holmes, John Meehan and many other notable artists, original full-lengths created for HKB and an award-winning series of ballets for young audiences. In addition, HKB performs works by some of today’s most sought-after choreographers, including Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, Jiří Kylian, Nacho Duato, Trey McIntyre, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa as well as dynamic new works by HKB's Choreographer-in-Residence Hu Song Wei Ricky.

With almost 50 tours to 11 countries, HKB most recently toured throughout Europe in 2018, across Mainland China in 2019 and in recent seasons to the US, at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and in New York at the Joyce Theatre and the renowned Fall for Dance Festival. In addition to its performances on stage at home and abroad, HKB maintains a full schedule of community engagement initiatives throughout Hong Kong to ensure the art of ballet is accessible to all.

Septime Webre is an internationally recognised ballet director, choreographer, educator and advocate. He joined Hong Kong Ballet as its Artistic Director in July 2017 after 17 years as Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet in Washington DC, US from 1999-2016. Previously he served as Artistic Director of the American Repertory Ballet, based in Princeton, New Jersey, US from 1993-1999. In addition, Webre has served as the Artistic Director of Halcyon, a Washington DC-based foundation, launching an annual international Festival for Creativity in Washington DC in June 2018.

During Webre’s tenure at The Washington Ballet, the institution’s budget grew by 500%, and it enjoyed unprecedented advances in the scope and quality of its work on stage, in the size and reach of its professional school, and in the development of several far-reaching community engagement programmes, which he founded. Webre launched an array of artistic initiatives including The American Experience, which developed great works of literature into full-length ballets, including The Great Gatsby and Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises among others.

As a choreographer, Webre’s works appear in the repertoires of ballet companies throughout North America, including Pacific Northwest Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Colorado Ballet, Ballet West, Atlanta Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Ballet Austin, Ballet Memphis, Milwaukee Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico, and many others, and he has worked frequently in theatre as well as opera. As a dancer, Webre was featured in solo and principal roles from the classical repertoire as well as in contemporary works by choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham. He has served on the juries of a number of international ballet competitions, including those in Varna, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, and elsewhere. He has served on the board of Dance/USA and his work has received numerous honors, grants and awards. He holds a degree in History/Pre-Law from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the seventh son in a large, boisterous Cuban-American family.
