HONG KONG BALLET

Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is recognised internationally as a world-class institution that represents Hong Kong's unique character. Since its inception in 1979, HKB has evolved into a vibrant performing arts organisation with a dynamic repertoire, forward-thinking community engagement initiatives and an emphasis on excellence.

Comprised of 50 dancers from all over the globe – Hong Kong, Mainland China and other parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America, HKB has won recognition both regionally and internationally. With celebrated re-stagings of the classics, neoclassical masterworks by George Balanchine and others and original ballets created for HKB and about Hong Kong. Additionally, HKB performs works by some of today’s most sought-after choreographers, including Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Justin Peck, Jiří Kylian, Nacho Duato and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa as well as innovative new works by its Choreographer-in-Residence, Hu Song-wei Ricky, and numerous emerging Hong Kong choreographers.

With almost 50 tours to 11 countries, HKB has recently toured throughout Europe, the US and Asia and places a special emphasis on representing Hong Kong in Mainland China and the West. HKB maintains the newly renamed Hong Kong Academy of Ballet, a professionally-oriented ballet school, as well as a full schedule of award-winning community programmes and crossover collaborations throughout Hong Kong to ensure ballet is accessible to all. HKB has also produced engaging original videos and dance films that have collectively garnered over 10 million views online, connecting with ballet lovers worldwide.

香港芭蕾舞團（港芭）以富香港獨有魅 力、非凡作品及超卓演繹享譽國際。自 1979 年以來港芭不斷演變，現已成為 一個朝氣蓬勃的藝團，着重卓越的品 質，擁有豐富的劇目及具前瞻性的社 區拓展計劃。

港芭有 50 位來自世界各地的精英舞者， 包括來自香港、中國內地、亞洲地區、 澳洲、新西蘭、歐洲和北美等地，近年 贏得海內外各方的支持和肯定。演出 劇目涵蓋多齣重製的古典瑰寶、巴蘭 欽的新古典傑作、特別為港芭編創的 長篇芭蕾舞及具香港特色的作品，亦 會不時演出當今舞壇星級編舞家如羅 曼斯基、惠爾頓、麥葛萊格、佩克、季 利安、杜亞陶及奧喬亞等的傑作，包 括駐團編舞家胡頌威和香港新晉編舞 家的作品。

港芭至今進行了近 50 次世界巡演，足 跡遍及11 個國家，近年到訪地方包括歐 洲、美國及亞洲，並代表香港成為中國 內地及西方的重要文化藝術據點。港芭 培訓項目改稱為「香港芭蕾舞學院」， 是一所專門培訓專業舞者的芭蕾舞學 校。此外，港芭亦在全港各地舉辦一系 列屢獲殊榮的社區活動及跨界合作演 出，務求將芭蕾舞普及化。港芭又製作 了多部原創錄像及舞蹈影片於不同網上 平台播放，累積逾千萬觀看次數，連繫 世界各地的芭蕾舞愛好者。

Welcome to Hong Kong Ballet (HKB)’s 45th Anniversary Season! I am beyond excited to share about our milestone year and how Hong Kong Ballet continues to live out its ‘never standing still’ mantra. We are always moving forward and never content to rest on our laurels. This spring we launch ‘Tutu Academy’, our latest short film and photography series that celebrates the universal language of ballet as well as the wonderful strangeness of the world we all live in!

This historic season we will premiere four fabulous full-length productions: The Wizard of Oz, a fantastical journey with Dorothy and friends, The Butterfly Lovers, the classic Chinese legend of star-crossed lovers, Frida, based on the poignant life of acclaimed 20th century surrealist Frida Kahlo, and a breathtaking new Giselle with its compelling story of passion, betrayal and redemption. Families will be swept away by a return to our beloved Hong Kong-themed The Nutcracker during the festive season and a charming Ballet Carnival for Kids with its interactive ALICE (in wonderland) activities, including a memorable The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

In the community our impact has never been greater. To more deeply reflect the artistic growth and popularity of our educational programmes, we’ve expanded our training offerings to a new purpose-built Wong Chuk Hang location this spring and renamed the programme the Hong Kong Academy of Ballet to reflect the programme’s professional aspirations and to honour the original name of our organisation when it was founded 45 years ago. Additionally, we continue to ensure that dance is a vital part of Hong Kong’s social and cultural fabric with dynamic community engagement activities for tens of thousands of children and adults in our vibrant city every year.

歡迎來到香港芭蕾舞團（港芭）第四十 五屆舞季！我急不及待與各位分享今屆 的節目內容，見證港芭如何活出「舞動 不息」的態度 我們從不自滿，繼續 邁步。今年春天，港芭推出了全新品牌 影片及宣傳照「Tutu 學院」，邀請各界 分享周遭生活的奇妙趣事，突顯芭蕾 作為世界共同語言的地位。

今屆舞季意義非凡，港芭將會首演四 部精采的長篇製作：《綠野仙蹤》帶 觀眾踏上鬥智鬥勇的冒險征途；《梁 山伯與祝英台》講述家傳戶曉的悲劇 戀人相識至廝守的經歷；《芙烈達》 娓娓道出二十世紀同名超現實主義藝 術家充滿掙扎的一生；重新製作的《吉 賽爾》，則舞出激情、背叛與救贖交 錯的人鬼之戀。合家歡節目亦令人雀 躍期待，以香港文化為主題的《胡桃 夾子》載譽歸來，再次在冬日佳節期 間為觀眾送上歡樂。「芭蕾童趣嘉年 華」則以瘋帽客的茶會派對為題，呈 獻一連串與《愛麗絲夢遊仙境》有關 的互動體驗。

在社區方面，港芭的影響力更上層樓。 港芭工作坊的課程種類及參加人數均 有所增長，有見及此，我們於今年春 天將芭蕾課程擴展至位於黃竹坑新 落成的專用設施，期望把課程推至專 業水平，並將項目改名為「香港芭蕾 舞學院」，以紀念港芭成立之初的名 稱。此外，我們年復年為數以萬計的 兒童及成人提供一系列社區參與活 動，讓舞蹈繼續成為香港文化生活及 社區面貌的關鍵一環。

Welcome to Tutu Academy, an unconventional school where the language of dance transcends all communication barriers. A joyful celebration of the unifying nature of ballet in honour of Hong Kong Ballet’s 45th Anniversary, this quirky short film is set in retro-futuristic Hong Kong and follows an unusual visitor from outer space as he navigates a strange and new environment. Ultimately he finds acceptance and happiness through the universal language of ballet, reminding us all of the beauty of forging meaningful connections and new friendships in our weird and wonderful world no matter where we come from.

HKB’s 45th Anniversary Season is fast approaching, and we’ve got loads of special activities and events coming up to celebrate this important milestone with you! Watch out for exciting opportunities to win prizes and special gifts, be featured in HKB online and offline events, get autographed merch and attend up-close events with HKB dancers. 綠色外星人在香港街頭跳芭蕾舞？真不尋常！舞蹈影片項目「Tutu 學院」以學院為名，研究如何以舞蹈為語言打破溝通障 礙。項目特地為紀念香港芭蕾舞團（港芭）四十五周年而設，同時宣揚芭蕾凝聚眾人的力量。影片設定於復古與未來元素 交織的香港，故事隨一位外太空訪客抵達香港開始，觀眾跟隨他探索陌生環境的同時，亦透過芭蕾體會到樂趣及包容的 特質。影片提醒我們世界雖然光怪陸離，但亦暗藏各種美麗，與背景不同的人建立聯繫，交朋結友仍是美事。

An eternal love that defies all expectations

The best love is unexpected. This thrilling world premiere of The Butterfly Lovers from HKB Choreographer-in-Residence Hu Song Wei Ricky tells the epic Chinese legend of humble scholar Liang Shanbo and aristocratic heiress Zhu Yingtai, who disguises herself as a boy in order to study at a prestigious academy. From innocently meeting as students and forging a strong, immediate bond to dangerously rebelling against centuries-old forces that threaten to keep them apart, the lovers face unexpected challenges at every turn, as secrets are revealed and a shocking family betrayal ultimately seals their fate.

With a sweeping original score by acclaimed Chinese composer Tian Mi in collaboration with Macao Orchestra, this powerful tale of forbidden love and filial duty features Academy Award winner Tim Yip’s ( Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Septime Webre’s The Great Gatsby ) visually stunning sets and costumes that bring to life a world with traditional and modern elements. Transcendent and uplifting, The Butterfly Lovers is a glorious fusion of inspiring dance, contemporary Chinese aesthetics and eternal hope.

All eyes will be on some of the world’s most talked-about international star dancers and stellar Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) artists in a historic celebration of HKB’s landmark 45th anniversary! This grand evening promises to be an enthralling must-see event with a dazzling programme of dynamic contemporary pieces and mesmerising classical excerpts from Swan Lake, Le Corsaire and Don Quixote, as well as a pair of iconic pas de deux by twentieth-century master, George Balanchine – the effervescent Tarantella pas de deux and the majestic Tchaikovsky pas de deux. This remarkable programme features international guest artists Victor Caixeta, Emma Von Enck, Qi Bingxue, Iana Salenko, Daniil Simkin and Xu Jingkun.

For one night only, experience breathtaking artistry and magical masterpieces at HKB’s biggest party of the year, joyfully culminating in a glittering finale with everyone performing together on stage. The ultimate holiday tradition returns with Septime Webre’s timeless classic The Nutcracker, filled with Tchaikovsky’s world-famous score, opulent sets and costumes and beloved Hong Kong elements that enchant audiences year after year.

On Christmas Eve, Clara, Fritz and the Nutcracker Prince embark on a magical journey through a snowy bamboo forest, battle the villainous Rat King and encounter a host of whimsical characters, including blossoming bauhinias, playful peacocks and dancing dim sum. From snowflakes to sword fights to the fantastical Christmas tree that reaches the sky, The Nutcracker abounds in spectacle and wonder while celebrating our city’s rich cultural tapestry and bringing out the child in everyone!

冬日限定的奇妙之旅回來了！衛承天以 二十世紀初香港為背景改編的《胡桃夾 子》已經成為每年聖誕必看的舞劇，今 年再度上演，一再叫大小觀眾興奮期待。

在平安夜派對上，故事主角嘉麗收到一 個胡桃夾子玩偶為聖誕禮物，自此展開 神奇之旅：穿越白雪皚皚的竹林，大戰 邪惡的老鼠王軍團，沿途碰見各色各樣 令人難忘的人事物，當中竟有調皮孔雀 和會跳舞的點心！刀光劍影，雪花紛飛， 節日氣氛與驚心動魄的冒險故事相乘， 瘋狂奇想與香港本土特色文化碰撞出連 串舞台奇觀，讓各位觀眾歡度佳節，看 得盡興而歸！

The magical life and journey of an iconic artist

One of the most important painters in the 20th century, the Mexican-born Frida Kahlo is a blazing symbol of artistic subjectivity, female liberation and the magical world of surrealism. Colombian-Belgian choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (HKB’s Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon) produces a visually stunning Frida that tells the iconic artist’s multifaceted life story of triumph and tragedy with rich imagery from her bold paintings and deeply personal self portraits.

Seamlessly fusing the classical and the contemporary, this vivid work majestically showcases Ochoa’s inventive partnering as dancers weave a tale of tempestuous affairs, heart-wrenching struggle and complex, uncompromising art. Set against Peter Salem’s enchanting original score with vibrant touches of mariachi, flamenco and jazz music, the compelling characters in Frida’s magical world, including her husband and famed muralist Diego Rivera, are exuberantly brought to life. Frida pays a hauntingly beautiful tribute to a visionary trailblazer who painted her version of the world against staggering odds and left an unforgettable social and artistic legacy.

One of the most romantic ballets of all time, Giselle is a transcendent tale of love, betrayal and redemption. South African ballet artist Charla Genn and Hong Kong Ballet Artistic Director Septime Webre breathe new life into this poignant story of a carefree peasant girl who unexpectedly falls in love with Albrecht, a flirtatious nobleman in disguise. This seemingly harmless deception leads to heartbreak, and supernatural drama ensues.

Giselle courageously protects Albrecht from harm, and the beauty of forgiveness ultimately unravels the destructive powers of betrayal and deceit. In November 2024, get ready to come along with Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) on tour as we spread positive Hong Kong energy around the world! HKB proudly brings its award-winning ALICE (in wonderland) to Beijing’s prestigious National Centre for the Performing Arts (The Egg). This wildly popular show about friendship, perseverance and strength of character choreographed by HKB Artistic Director Septime Webre first premiered in Hong Kong in 2018 to sold-out performances, and now audiences in Beijing can experience the dizzying, over-the-top adventure when Alice tumbles downs the rabbit hole and encounters a host of colourful characters like the jumpy White Rabbit, vengeful Queen of Hearts and many more.

HKB is proud to serve as one of Hong Kong’s most important cultural ambassadors around the globe and gratefully acknowledges the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Beijing) for their generous tour partnership and dedicated support.

港芭大型製作躍現北京 一同走入兔子洞經歷夢幻之旅 香港芭蕾舞團（港芭）將於 11月15至16 日登上有「巨蛋」之稱的北京國家大劇 院舞台，演出《愛麗絲夢遊仙境》，舞劇 由港芭藝術總監衛承天操刀改編，2018 年首演，場場滿座，好評如潮。港芭誠邀 北京觀眾與愛麗絲一同闖進兔子洞，連 同跳脫的白兔先生、好勝心強的紅色皇 后及引人入勝的瘋帽匠等多姿多彩的 童話人物，為觀眾帶來一場糅合舞蹈、 劇場和偶戲元素，驚喜連連與超乎想像 的歷險故事。

To reflect the rapid growth and professional aspirations of our education initiatives, this year Hong Kong Ballet renames its HKBALLET | WORKSHOPS programme, launching The Hong Kong Academy of Ballet in honour of the company’s original name when it was founded 45 years ago. Our philosophy of providing professionallyoriented ballet training in a warm, nurturing environment ensures that students of all ages build a solid foundation in ballet technique and develop their artistry.

香港芭蕾舞團（港芭）一直積極推動專業芭蕾舞教育，為配合 教育項目的急速發展，港芭於今年將「港芭｜工作坊」正式改名 為「香港芭蕾舞學院」，學院名稱源自港芭四十五年前成立時 的名字，別具歷史意義。學院以提供嚴謹的芭蕾舞訓練為教 學宗旨，為學員創造友善親切的學習環境，務求讓任何年齡 的人士都能建立鞏固的芭蕾舞技巧根基，發展其藝術才能。

The Hong Kong Academy of Ballet (The Academy) offers high-quality classical ballet training with a professionally-oriented syllabus developed by our world-renowned faculty and artistic staff. Our unique curriculum follows a progressive structure designed to build a solid foundation in ballet technique and develop artistry in students of all ages.

Girls and boys are placed in class levels according to age, experience and ability. In subsequent levels, the classical programme teaches critical foundational techniques, creative artistry and dynamic performance skills in a supportive environment to develop strong, expressive dancers. Supplementary conditioning, pas de deux, repertoire, pointe and boys classes are also offered. Students are exposed to a wide variety of disciplines from the Academy’s faculty, guest artists and choreographers and have exciting opportunities to perform with Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) dancers.

Entry and placement assessments are required for Classical Ballet Training Programme students (ages 6 and above) and Pre-Ballet Foundation Programme students (ages 4-5). Students will have mid-term and year-end assessments each year.

It’s a great way to stay in shape and experience and enjoy ballet through classes taught by professional HKB artists. Courses are taught by HKB artistic members and alumni, and all ballet classes feature live accompaniment by a pianist.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMMES

We believe that ballet is for everyone, no matter their age or background. Our Caring Community Programmes offer inclusive ballet experiences like open dress rehearsals and special ballet workshops for seniors, individuals with special needs, underserved populations and ethnic minorities. The popular Family Fun Day gives guests of all ages entertaining opportunities to engage with ballet and experience fun photo corners, workshop booths and an interactive performance stage. Seniors attend Silver Ballet Camp to learn simple, elegant choreography and create their own unique dance accessories. In 2024, HKB continues its successful Hong Kong-themed ballet programme ‘Dancing to Hong Kong’s Heartbeat 2.0’ for seniors and underprivileged community members. Participants enjoy hands-on workshops and field trips to local landmarks and become more familiar with Hong Kong elements in HKB’s The Nutcracker. We hope to continue these dynamic workshops so that

more people can learn about and enjoy ballet, and our goal is to actively expand the programme to communities beyond the city.

Hong Kong students can explore an incredible world of artistry and innovation through our engaging School Programmes like School Culture Day, School Ballet Talks and the Creative Ballet in Practice Project. Led by teachers and the HKB team, students gain more insight into various elements of a professional ballet production and personally experience what it’s like to bring a show to life. Creative and informative ballet talks at local and international schools raise more interest in HKB productions and ballet in general. Interactive workshops at schools teach students basic ballet positions, simple choreography and expressive mime to wordlessly convey emotion and stories. HKB’s ultimate goal is to nurture the next generation of ballet fans and increase greater appreciation for the arts beginning at a young age.

Go behind the scenes of a professional ballet production with entertaining, immersive events like Silver Ballet Camp, Pre-performance Workshops for Children and Families, Ballet 360°, Meet-the-Artist sessions, Studio Visits, Pre-performance Talks and Backstage Tours. Our inspiring Production Programmes provide wonderful opportunities for participants to learn about the creative process directly from the imaginative minds of HKB professional dancers, choreographers, designers and special guest artists and allow participants to experience some of the magic themselves firsthand!

BOOKING DETAILS 訂票須知

• Incomplete booking forms or incorrect information will delay processing. 訂票手續會因表格未填妥或填錯而延誤。

• One person per ticket regardless of age, subject to age limits specified for each production. 一人一票，所有觀眾不論年齡亦須憑票入場（須符合節目年齡限制）。

• Discounted tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Seat allocation is subject to availability. 優惠票數量有限，先到先得。所有座位安 排視乎訂位情況而定。

• Audience members are advised to be punctual. Latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break or intermission. The management reserves the right to refuse admission to any latecomers. 觀眾務請準時入場。遲到及中途離場人士須待中場休息或適當時候方可進場。因應部分場次需要，本團有權拒絕遲到者或中途離場人士進場。

• In case of lost tickets, please inform HKB at least 5 working days before the performance. 如遺失門票，請最遲於演出前五個工作天通知我們。

• To exchange your ticket for another ticket to a performance of the same production at the same venue, please bring your ticket to the Hong Kong Ballet office at least 2 weeks before the performance. There will be a handling fee of $30 per ticket. You may not exchange your ticket for a lower-priced ticket or for another HKB production. You may exchange your ticket for a higher-priced ticket to the same production by paying the difference. Subject to availability.

如欲更換門票，請不少於演出前兩個星期將門票交到香港芭蕾舞團辦公室，轉換相同節目同一場地的另一演出場次門票，手續費為每張門票三十元正。惟不能更換票值較低的門票 或加開場次，但可補回差價換取較高票價門票；換票成功與否需視乎節目銷售情況。

• Patrons booking tickets should be aware of different views and effects. Hong Kong Ballet makes no representation on or warranty whatsoever for the quality and views of any and all seats in the venue for its programmes. 客戶在訂購門票時必須明白不同座佔會有不同觀賞角度和效果。不論座位價格，香港芭蕾舞團均不會就節 目舉辦場地內所有及任何座位的質素和觀看效果作任何陳述或保證。

• Hong Kong Ballet reserves the right to add, withdraw or substitute artists and/or vary advertised programmes and seating arrangements should unavoidable circumstances occur. Should there be any changes, HKB will update the relevant
