by Chopin’s music, the choreographer uses body movement to lead the audience to experience a sense of calm and tranquility. Chopin was deeply in love with a female classmate in music school when he composed this piece of music, and the unrequited love ended in vain. The music is gentle, lingering and full of anticipation, as sorrow and solitude flows between the dancers.

Born in Buenos Aires, Marianela Nuñez received training at the Teatro Colón Ballet School and toured internationally with Maximiliano Guerra and the Teatro Colón. She joined The Royal Ballet in 1998 and promoted to Principal in 2002, aged 20. She has performed leading roles in repertories of Ashton, Balanchine, Cranko, Forsythe, Kylián, MacMillan, McGregor, Page, Robbins, Tudor and Wheeldon. She has created numerous roles in Infra, Carbon Life, DGV: Danse à grande vitesse, Aeternum, Asphodel Meadows, Tetractys, among other works. Daniil Simkin was born in Novosibirsk, Russia. He is the son of acclaimed ballet dancers Dmitrij Simkin and Olga Aleksandrova. His accolades include the Senior Gold Medal at the Jackson International Ballet Competition, the Grand Prix at the Helsinki International Ballet Competition and the Gold Medal at the International Ballet Competition in Varna. He was the Principal Dancer of Staatsballett Berlin and American Ballet Theatre, and worked with the Vienna State Opera Ballet. In 2015, Simkin spearheaded and produced an evening of contemporary original choreography called “INTENSIO,” which toured the United States and internationally with the Joyce Theater in New York. This was followed in 2017 by a production of a multi-disciplinary dance installation at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Constantine Allen was born in Indianapolis, USA. He received his ballet training at the Pacific Ballet Academy, Ballet Hawaii, Kirov Ballet Academy and John Cranko Schule. He joined Stuttgarter Ballett in 2012. Just six months later, he was promoted to Soloist, followed by his promotion to Principal Dancer in 2013. He has joined the Dutch National Ballet as a Principal Dancer since 2018. Major roles he danced ranged from the princes in Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake to main roles in contemporary classics, such as John Cranko’s Taming of the Shrew and John Neumeier’s Othello with Stuttgarter Ballett and Armand in John Neumeier’s La Dame aux Camélias with Dutch National Ballet. Born in Heilongjiang, China, Chen Zhuming graduated from the Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy in 2017 and joined the National Ballet of China in the same year. His leading roles with the National Ballet of China include the Prince in Swan Lake and Cinderella, Albrecht in Giselle, Toreador in Carmen, Principal in Emeralds of Jewels, Lensky in Onegin, Sea Witch in The Little Mermaid, the Nutcracker in Chinese New Year (The Nutcracker Chinese Version) and Jia Baoyu in A Dream of Red Mansions. His accolades include the First Prize in Category C and the Academy Award in the 5th Beijing International Ballet Invitational for Dance Schools in 2014, scholarship winner of the Asia division of YAGP in 2015 and the Gold Medal of Junior Group in the 8th Helsinki International Ballet Competition, Finland in 2016. 陳鑄明生於中國黑龍江，2017年畢業於北京舞蹈學院附中芭蕾舞系，同年加入中央芭蕾舞團。

Born in Henan, China, Fang Mengying graduated from the Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy in 2007. She worked at Korea Universal Ballet (2007-2015) and joined the National Ballet of China in 2015.In South Korea, she starred in Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Shim Chung. After she joined the National Ballet of China, she danced Odile/Odette in Natalia Makarova’s Swan Lake, Giselle in Giselle, Gamzatti in La Bayadère, elder Yuan Yuan in Chinese New Year (The Nutcracker Chinese Version), Lin Daiyu in A Dream of Red Mansions, and Princess in The Little Mermaid. Greek-born choreographer Andonis Foniadakis began his career as a dancer with the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon (1996–2002), where he worked with leading choreographers like Maguy Marin, William Forsythe and Jiří Kylián, among others. In 2003, he founded his own company, Apotosoma, and has choreographed for many international companies, including Martha Graham Dance Company in USA, Sydney Dance Company in Australia and Rambert in the UK. During 2016 to 2018 he was Greek National Ballet’s Artistic Director. He has choreographed three French operas, collaborated with Darren Aronofsky on the film Noah and worked with Palais de Tokyo on the exhibition “Prec(ar)ious Collectives” in Athens. His notable accolades include Italy’s 2012 Danza and Danza Award for Best Choreography for Les Noces and the 2018 Best Production Award from the Greek Critic’s Union of Music and Theatre for Galaxy.

Born in Liaoning, China, Ye Li currently resides in Oregon, USA. He is a renowned choreographer and ballet director famous for his stunning techniques and sensitive musicality. His accolades include Second Prizes for The Daylight Within (2022) and You Will Return (2019) at the Palm Desert Choreography Festival. The latter also appeared at the 12th Taoli Cup National Dance Education Exhibition. He was a Soloist at Oregon Ballet Theatre and danced principal roles in Giselle, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, La Bayadère and Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. He also worked for Guangzhou Ballet and Les Grands Ballets. World-class choreographers he has worked with include Jiří Kylián, Mauro Bigonzetti, Christian Spuck, William Forsythe and Nacho Duato, among others. He was the Rehearsal Director for Oregon Ballet Theatre 2 (2021-2023). Ye Li and his wife, Xuan Cheng, founded the Oregon International Ballet Academy in 2015.

Born in Jiangxi, China, Hu Song Wei Ricky trained at Shanghai Dance School, LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts in Singapore and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Hu joined Hong Kong Ballet as a dancer in 2008 and becomes Choreographer-in-Residence in the 2019/20 season. He has been invited to choreograph for Hong Kong Arts Festival, Shanghai International Arts Festival, Chinese Dance for 12 Days, National University of Singapore Arts Festival, Hong Kong Ballet and more. He has recently won Outstanding Large Venue Production and Outstanding Choreography for The Last Song at the 2023 Hong Kong Dance Awards. He received the Award for Young Artist (Dance) at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2012. 胡頌威生於中國江西，於上海戲劇學院附屬舞蹈學校、新加坡拉薩爾新航藝術學院及香港演藝學院受訓，20 08年加入香港芭蕾舞團，2019年成為駐團編舞家。胡頌威作品繁多，曾獲邀為香港藝術節、上海國際藝術節、中國舞蹈十二天、新加坡國立大學藝術節及香港芭蕾舞團等編創新作。他剛以《最後的歌》贏得2023年香港舞蹈年獎傑出大型場地製作及傑出編舞，2012年榮獲香港藝術發展藝術新秀獎（舞蹈）。

Born in China, Le Wang graduated from the Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy. A prize winner at the 40th Prix de Lausanne, he worked with Nederlands Dans Theater 2 and was a Soloist and young choreographer at the Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. His choreographic accolades include the Best Choreography and Silver Award for contemporary dance, the Special Award of Morning Star Ballet Foundation, and the Third Prize (Ensemble Category) at the Youth American Grand Prix. Le Wang founded his production studio in 2020, creating new works by commission from the National Ballet of China, Guangdong Song and Dance Theatre, English National Ballet School and Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. He was also invited to make contemporary variations for candidates in international ballet competitions. He was the Visual and Dance Director for the New Year Concert of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in 2022. 王樂生於中國，畢業於北京舞蹈學院附中，他是第四十屆瑞士洛桑國際芭蕾舞大賽獲獎者之一，後加入荷蘭舞蹈劇場二團及擔任蒙特卡洛芭蕾舞團的獨舞演員兼青年編導。他曾獲得的編舞獎項包括第五屆北京國際芭蕾舞暨編舞比賽芭蕾組最佳現代舞編導獎、現代舞組銀獎、曉星基金會獎，以及美國青少年芭蕾舞大賽群舞組第三名。王樂於2020年成立個人工作室，曾獲中央芭蕾舞團、廣東省歌舞劇院、英國國家芭蕾舞學校及摩納哥蒙特卡洛芭蕾舞團等委約創作，並受邀為各大國際芭蕾賽事提供現代舞比賽指定舞目。他於2022年擔任國家大劇院新春音樂會視覺與舞蹈總監。 13

One of Asia’s premier ballet companies, Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is internationally recognised as a worldclass institution which represents Hong Kong’s unique character. Since its inception in 1979, HKB has evolved into a vibrant performing arts organisation with a dynamic repertoire, forward-thinking community engagement initiatives and an emphasis on excellence. Septime Webre joined HKB as its Artistic Director in July 2017. With nearly 50 dancers from all over the globe – Hong Kong, Mainland China and other parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and throughout North America – HKB has won recognition both regionally and internationally. HKB’s repertoire includes celebrated re-stagings of the classics, neo-classical masterworks by George Balanchine, original full-lengths created for HKB and an award-winning series of ballets for young audiences. In addition, HKB performs works by some of today’s most sought-after choreographers, including Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Justin Peck, Jiři Kylian, Nacho Duato, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa as well as dynamic new works by HKB’s Choreographer-in-Residence Hu Song Wei Ricky, Yuh Egami, as well as numerous emerging Hong Kong choreographers. SEPTIME WEBRE 衛承天

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, HONG KONG BALLET 香港芭蕾舞團藝術總監

Septime Webre is an internationally recognised ballet director, choreographer, educator and advocate. He joined Hong Kong Ballet as its Artistic Director in July 2017 after 17 years as Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet in Washington DC, US. Previously he served as Artistic Director of the American Repertory Ballet, based in Princeton, New Jersey, US for six years. In addition, Webre has served as the Artistic Director of Halcyon, a Washington DC-based foundation standing at the intersection of creativity and social impact. Webre’s tenure at The Washington Ballet ushered in a period of unprecedented growth in the quality and breadth of its work—both onstage and in its engagement and educational initiatives, with its annual budget growing over 500% during that time. In Hong Kong, Webre recently staged a pair of new productions for HKB: a Romeo + Juliet set in the early 1960’s Hong Kong, and The Nutcracker set in Hong Kong in the early 20th century. In addition, he has staged a number of additional productions for HKB, including new productions of Giselle, ALICE (in wonderland), The Great Gatsby and Peter Pan. As a dancer, Webre was featured in solo and principal roles from the classical repertoire as well as in contemporary works by choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham. He has served on the juries of a number of international ballet competitions, including those in Varna, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, and elsewhere. He has served on the board of Dance/USA and his work has received numerous honors, grants and awards. He holds a degree in History/Pre-Law from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the seventh son in a large, boisterous Cuban-American family.
