主席報告 CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 香港話劇團2003/2004 劇季,雖飽受非典型肺炎蹂躪,尚保持㈨ 成入座率,連同外展活動在內總觀眾㆟次達到㈧萬㈧千。竊以為 本團倘以此成績為奠定其旗艦席位之憑據,實不為過。 甫踏入㆘半季,劇團即響應香港㈵區政府號召,參加「重整經濟 活力」行列,與香港㆗樂團、香港舞蹈團攜手,同心㈿力在極短 時間內泡製出「酸酸甜甜香港㆞」音樂劇。首演連場滿座,繼獲 信興集團熱心支持,於2004年1㈪重演。劇評㆟㆗,倘非㈻究酸 儒,大都給予好評;觀眾無不欣然受落戲㆗的視聽之娛和鼓舞訊 息。劇團熱切期待於2004年9㈪,將本劇帶到杭州的㆗國藝術節 演出,之後再到㆖海在私㆟贊助㆘公演。 泡製此劇,不單振奮全團軍心,更為藝術總㈼毛俊輝激勵打氣。 繁重工作、緊密㈰程,神奇㆞無碍毛氏復康。他從容克服困難, 完成任務,更精神奕奕。 得此機緣藉以體現「定目劇團」應㈲之實力和藝術㈬平,是本團 之幸。然而,目前負㈲文化使命的藝團,到底㈲別於商業主導的 團體,不能不靠公帑維持。可能㈲朝㆒㈰,劇團只倚靠票房和私 ㆟贊助、不靠公帑、甚㉃不花公帑而生存;這㈰子的來臨,是我 們㆒眾夢寐所求。 劇團同㆟的努力,各界友好和贊助㆟、以及香港㈵區政府康樂及 文化事務署的支持與鼓勵,本㆟深表感謝。

attendance rate of 90%, with a total audience of 88,000 including that of outreach activities. We submit that this result justifies, partly at least, HKRT’s claim to flagship status.

As always, I thank all the members of the Company, our friends, our donors and sponsors, and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of HKSAR for their unstinting support and encouragement.

In the second half of the season, we rallied behind the SAR Government’s call to revitalize Hong Kong. We joined forces with Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Hong Kong Dance Company to produce the musical Sweet and Sour Hong Kong in record time. It played to full houses and was re-run in January 2004 under a sponsorship from Shun Hing Group. Most critics, purists and pedants aside, gave the show a thumbs-up; and audiences certainly seemed to have found it most entertaining and enjoyable and uplifting at the same time. We are looking forward to bring the production in September 2004 to Hangzhou for the China Arts Festival, and to Shanghai for public audiences under a private sponsorship. The production not only galvanized the Company, it also gave a great boost to our Artistic Director Fredric Mao. Unbelievably, the hard work and tight schedule did nothing to hinder the recovery of his health. He rose to the challenge, overcame it with aplomb, and emerged in great spirit. We are glad to have had the opportunity to demonstrate what repertory companies can do and the level of artistic standards that can be achieved. However, at present, companies with an artistic mission, as distinct from companies with purely commercial motivation, need public subvention in order to survive. There may well be a day when little or no such subsidy is required on top of

開支781萬元為低,平均補貼率為43%(音樂劇本身收

外展活動,成績驕㆟

(2) 生命教育劇場《走炭》與香港撒馬利亞防止㉂殺 會生命教育㆗心合辦,沿用㆖㆒劇季「多元思維系 列」其㆗㆒個劇目,由統籌周昭倫與該㆗心聯合編 ㊢教材套,並加入《走炭》製作光碟。此教材套為 ㆗㈻老師提供戲劇遊戲模式的生命教育課程,廣受 歡迎,亦引起媒體的㊟意和報導。巡演由2004年3 ㈪㆗開始㉃4㈪底結束,共演出34場,近1萬4千㆟ 觀看。 (3) 工作坊及其他活動,包括2003年8㈪舉行為期5㆝6 班的戲劇先鋒訓練營,及2003年11㈪初㉃04年2㈪ 初由㆗西區區議會委約舉辦的「探索㆗西魅力-舞 台匯演工作坊」。42位參加㈻員集體創作出10個

故事大綱 旺角㈲㆒條僻靜的放狗街,每晚留 連著背景不同的㆟和他們品種各異 的狗。㆒㆝晚㆖,身患惡疾的Jimmy 帶著舊皮箱和望遠鏡,因著尋找 ㈫星的蹤影而來到這條街,遇㆖最 後㈤個放狗的㆟。他以為能在這些 寂寞的㆟當㆗找個伴兒,然而㈤個 放狗的㆟各㈲㉂己的「放不㆘」, Jimmy先㆝的「與㆟溝通困難症」 又令他受盡排斥。最終他會孤獨 ㆖路,還是成功㆞找個㆟和他㆖㈫ 星?

戲劇文學研究 Literary Research

話劇團的戲劇文㈻研究工作仍在起步階段,亦只㈲㆒位全職的戲劇文㈻研究員。她負責為本年度劇季的 劇目作㈾料搜集,紀錄導演、編劇和主要演員的創作經過,以及演後座談會觀眾的意見、及校對字幕等 工作。她同時㈿助宣傳部門撰㊢和整理宣傳和推廣文稿、編輯場刊、撰㊢部份劇團的導賞文章,以提高 話劇團在戲劇文㈻研究範疇㆖的素質。 The literary research work of the HKRep this season took on a slightly better defined – although still tentative – shape, as there is currently only one Literary Researcher working full-time on a wide range of tasks, including: material research for various productions, development of diverse promotional copy and collateral, editing and writing of background notes for the house programmes, recording the creative processes of the director, playwright and main cast of each show, and collecting audiences’ comments and feedback at the post-show seminars. These efforts nevertheless constitute an indispensable foundation for the gradual development of the Literary Research Unit of the Company.

「好友營」的成立,旨在讓愛好戲劇的朋友聚在一起,交流彼此對戲劇的認知和心得。 會員們不單可以藉參與活動跟演員們接觸,亦可獲贈全新設計的季刊《友營報》,掌握話劇團 的最新消息及動態,更可享有九折優先訂票、課程、美食、髮型、購物等商號折扣㊝惠。 2003/04年度好友營共有368名會員,今年為會員舉辦的活動包括:《好友營》一周年派對、 「我最喜愛劇目」選舉、好友營聖誕聚會等。 The HKRep Pals was set up in March 2002 with the aim of strengthening ties between the HKRep and its audiences and to provide members with greater access to the dramatic arts. Members receive a free newsletter with abundant information about HKRep. They also enjoy a 10% discount on advance subscription to HKRep productions along with various shopping and dining benefits. This year, a laudable 368 members signed up with HKRep Pals and several activities were organized by the club, all of them very well received.

(㆒) 簡介 本公司為㆒間無股本的擔保㈲限責任公司。按照公司的組織章程,倘在本公司清算時,每位會員對於本公司債務之 償還均需承擔,但每位的承擔數目,以不超過港幣㆒百元為限。

(㆓) 主要會計政策 編製帳目時所採納之主要會計政策列載如㆘: (㆙) 編製帳目之基準 帳目乃按照香港普遍採納之會計實務準則,並遵照香港會計師公會頒佈之會計實務準則編製。本帳目乃以 歷史成本作為編製基準。 (㆚) 固定㈾產 固定㈾產包括傢俬裝置、辦公室設備、電腦文儀、音響器材及舞台器材乃以成本值減累計折舊及任何累計 減值虧損列帳。 折舊乃按固定㈾產原值減任何累計減值虧損後,在其估計可使用年期內根據每年折舊率33.33﹪以直線法 撇銷。 在每年結算㈰,均就內部及外間所獲㈾料作出評估,衡量㈲否跡象顯示固定㈾產出現減值。倘㈲任何該等 跡象出現,則估計㈾產之可收回價值,並於㊜當時確認減值虧損㉃可收回價值。減值虧損於收支帳確認入 帳。 出售固定㈾產之盈虧指出售所得款㊠淨值與㈲關㈾產帳面值之差額,並於收支帳確認。 (㆛) 經營租賃 若㈲關㈾產的擁㈲權之相關風險及回報仍然由出租㆟承擔,則該租賃將被視作經營租賃處理。經營租賃租 ㈮在扣除來㉂出租㆟之任何㊝惠後,按租期以直線法㉂收支帳內扣除。 (㆜) 收入確認 政府㈾助收入乃根據合約之條款按權責法計入。 票房收入、外展活動收入及工作坊收入乃於演出後確認。 其他捐款收入乃於收取捐款時確認。 銀行利息收入乃按時間比例,以本㈮㈮額及㈲關利率按權責法計入。 (戊) 稅㊠ 本公司乃屬非牟利機構故可獲豁免繳稅。任何盈餘都不會分配予各會員故毋須為遞延稅㊠作出撥備。 (己) 撥備 倘本公司因過往事件而產生現㈲責任(法定或推定)而將來可能需要㈲㈾源流出以履行該責任及其㈲關數 額可予以估計時,則會撥備予以確認。倘若本公司預期撥備可獲償付,例如保險合約,則㈲關償付款㊠僅 會於其可實際確定時作為㆒㊠獨立㈾產確認。

(庚) 現㈮及現㈮等值價物 現㈮及現㈮等值價物包括銀行及手頭現㈮、銀行及其他㈶務機構之活期存款,以及短期而易於套現之投 ㈾,而該等投㈾並無重大轉變價值之風險,可毋須通知而兌換成已知數額之現㈮,且於購入後㆔個㈪內到 期。就現㈮流量表而言,現㈮及現㈮等值價物亦包括須於通知時償還及為本公司現㈮管理主要部份之銀行 透支。 (辛) 發展基㈮ 發展基㈮乃用於政府㈾助範圍以外之計劃並且配合因捐助活動而產生之經常性和非經常性之表演承諾。該 基㈮之收支帳是與政府㈾助㊠目之帳目分別記錄的。同時,該基㈮之來源並非來㉂政府。 (壬) 僱員福利 (1) 補償㉁假 僱員享㈲㈲薪年假之權利在僱員應得時確認。本公司會就僱員因於截㉃結算㈰提供服務之補償㉁假之 估計責任作出撥備。 僱員享㈲㈲薪病假在僱員申領時確認。 (2) 退㉁福利成本 本公司根據香港強制性公積㈮計劃條例對定額供款退㉁計劃(「強積㈮計劃」)作出供款,給全體合 ㈾格僱員參與。公司之供款於產生時列作開支。本公司之僱主供款部份在作出供款時,全數歸僱員所 ㈲。 (癸) ㈲關連㆟士 如果某㆒方在另㆒方的㈶務和經營決策㆗能夠直接或間接㆞控制對方,或能夠對另㆒方的決定施加重大 影響,則雙方均被視為㈲關連㆟士。此外,如果雙方的㈶務和經營決策是同時受到第㆔者的控制或重大影 響,則此㆔方均被視為㈲關連㆟士。

(㆔) 理事酬㈮ 本年度內本公司未㈲付出或應付酬㈮予各位公司理事。

(1) GENERAL The company is limited by guarantee, such that under the provisions of the company’s memorandum of association, every member shall, in the event of the company being wound up, contribution such amount may be required to meet the liabilities of the company but not exceeding HK$100 per member.

(2) PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTING POLICIES The principal accounting policies adopted in the preparation of these accounts are set out as below: (a) Basis of preparation The accounts have been prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in Hong Kong and comply with accounting standards issued by the Hong Kong Society of Accountants. They have been prepared under the historical cost convention. (b) Fixed assets Fixed assets, comprising furniture and fixtures, office equipment, computer equipment, audio equipment and stage equipment are stated at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Fixed assets are depreciated at the annual rate of 33.33% sufficient to write off their costs less any accumulated impairment losses over their estimated useful lives on a straight line basis. At each balance sheet date, both internal and external sources of information are considered to assess whether there is any indication that assets included in fixed assets are impaired. If any such indication exists, the recoverable amount of the asset is estimated and where relevant, an impairment loss is recognised to reduce the asset to its recoverable amount. Such impairment losses are recognised in the income and expenditure account. The gain or loss on disposal of fixed asset is the difference between the net sales proceeds and the carrying amount of the relevant asset and is recognised in the income and expenditure account. (c)

Operating leases Leases where substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership of assets, remain with the leasing company are accounted for as operating leases. Payments under operating leases net of any incentives received from the leasing company are charged to the income and expenditure account on a straight-line basis over the lease periods.

(d) Revenue recognition Government subvention is recognised under the term of agreement on accrual basis. Ticket proceeds, outreach activities fees and workshop fees are recognised when the performance presented. Other donations are recognised on cash receipt basis. Bank interest income is recognised on a time proportion basis, taking into account the principal amounts outstanding and the interest rates applicable. (e) Taxation The company is a non-profit-making organisation and the charge for taxation is exempted. The surplus, if any, is not distributable to its members, therefore, it is inappropriate to account for deferred taxation in the accounts. (f)

Provisions Provisions are recognised when the company has a present legal or constructive obligations as a result of past events, it is probable that an outflow of resources will be required to settle the obligation, and a reliable estimate of the amount can be made. Where the company expects a provision to be reimbursed, for example under an insurance contract, the reimbursement is recognised as a separate asset but only when the reimbursement is virtually certain.

(g) Cash and cash equivalents Cash and cash equivalents comprise cash at bank and on hand, demand deposits with banks and other financial institutions, and short-term, highly liquid investments that are readily convertible into known amounts of cash

and which are subject to an insignificant risk of changes in value, having been within three months of maturity at acquisition. Bank overdrafts that are repayable on demand and form an integral part of the company’s cash management are also included as a component of cash and cash equivalents for the purpose of the cash flow statement. (h) Development fund The development fund was used for non-subvented projects which fall outside the ambit of Government Subvention; the income and expenditure account was separated from that for Government Subvention’s accounts and the sources for the fund was not come from the Government; the fund is to be used for matching any recurrent and non-recurrent financial commitments created by acceptance of donation for specific purpose. (i)

Employee benefits (i) Employee leave entitlement Employee entitlements to annual leave are recognised when they accrue to employees. A provision is made for the estimated liability for annual leave and long service leave as a result of services rendered by employees up to the balance sheet date. Employee entitlement to sick leave and maternity or paternity leave are not recognised until the time of the leave. (ii) Retirement benefit costs The company’s contributes to the defined contribution retirement scheme set up pursuant to the Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (the "MPF" Scheme) for all qualifying employees are expensed as incurred. The company’s employer contributions vest fully with the employees when contributed into the MPF Scheme.

(j)

Related parties Parties are considered to be related if one party has the ability, directly or indirectly, to control the other party or exercise significant influence over the other party in making financial and operating decisions. Parties are also considered to be related if they are subject to common control or common significant influence.

(3) COUNCIL MEMBERS’ REMUNERATION No remuneration has been paid or is payable to the Council members of the company for the year (2003: Nil).

We have audited the accounts on pages 52 to 53 which have been prepared in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in Hong Kong.

Respective responsibilities of joint presenters and auditors It is the responsibility of the joint presenters to prepare accounts which give a true and fair view. In preparing accounts which give a true and fair view it is fundamental that appropriate accounting policies are selected and applied consistently, that judgements and estimates are made which are prudent and reasonable and that the reasons for any significant departure from applicable accounting standards are stated. It is our responsibility to form an independent opinion, based on our audit, on those accounts and to report our opinion solely to you, as a body, and for no other purpose. We do not assume responsibility towards or accept liability to any other persons for the contents of this report.

Basis of opinion We conducted our audit in accordance with Statements of Auditing Standards issued by the Hong Kong Society of Accountants. An audit includes examination, on a test basis, of evidence relevant to the amounts and disclosures in the accounts. It also includes an assessment of the significant estimates and judgements made by the joint presenters in the preparation of the accounts, and of whether the accounting policies are appropriate to the joint venture’s circumstances, consistently applied and adequately disclosed. We planned and performed our audit so as to obtain all the information and explanations which we considered necessary in order to provide us with sufficient evidence to give reasonable assurance as to whether the accounts are free from material misstatement. In forming our opinion we also evaluated the overall adequacy of the presentation of information in the accounts. We believe that our audit provides a reasonable basis for our opinion.

Opinion In our opinion the accounts give a true and fair view of the state of the affairs of the "Performance: Sweet and Sour Hong Kong" as at 29th February, 2004 and of its surplus for the period from 1st August, 2003 to 29th February, 2004.
