BUSINESS TRIPS, WIDER LEARNING & PROGRESSION

Throughout the year business students may undertake a range of enrichment activities to complement their programmes of study. This is just a selection of past experiences of the business students.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Students had the opportunity to go behind the scenes of JLR’s stunning state-of-the-art production facility in Solihull. They saw first-hand the production of vehicles using robots, and learning how logistically sleek their business is – 1000 deliveries a day on site of which the parts are fixed onto the vehicles within four hours of delivery! The group also received information about work experience placements and advanced apprenticeship programmes.

Oaker Wood Leisure Effective team working is a key skill of any successful business. Therefore, students start the year with a focus on developing this. It’s great to see everyone getting stuck-in and working across their business teams to help support each other and tackle every obstacle thrown at them! Cadbury A fun and exciting chance for students to examine marketing at Cadbury and also the different careers in the sector, besides enjoying the opportunity to test the chocolate for themselves!

Chase Distillery This is a great place to view the production of one of the best vodka’s in the world, all from the humble potato. Students were inspired to hear the story of how the family developed the Tyrrell’s business and sold this to start producing Chase Vodka.

Entrepreneurship Students had the opportunity to develop their own mini businesses under the banner of ‘Young Enterprise’. Some of these businesses were instigated from a national challenge to make as much profit as possible

Students have been developing an educational maths games and worked with a local primary school and the College’s Childcare group to test and further develop their product ideas. We certainly had some budding entrepreneurs in the group.

Progression Sixty percent of Level 3 students who applied for university have been successful with receiving their first choice offers, including Exeter, Reading, Liverpool, Oxford Brookes,

Loughborough, Hull and other more local universities to study Business and Law related degrees and Teacher Training. Other students have secured apprenticeships, including graduate apprenticeships and places on management training schemes and full-time employment.
