Animal Management Level 3
This is a specialist course, equivalent to three A Levels, in the welfare, biology and management of a wide range of animals.
This advanced programme will help you learn practical skills and competencies with a broad range of animal collections to prepare you for work or university. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of species in our animal unit. Throughout the programme you will have the chance to make a variety of visits which may include Crufts, Chester zoo, Amazing Animals and Wolf Watch UK. The course is suited to both school leavers and mature students who have relevant experience within the industry and who have a genuine interest in animal welfare and management. It is based on lectures, practical duties and work experience. This is the perfect programme if you are intending to work within the animal industry and want to learn more about the wider concepts relating to the management, welfare and biology of animals.

Qualification City & Guilds Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management (equivalent to three A Levels)
Duration Two years
Course Content A selection of unit titles is shown below: • Biological Systems of Animals • Animal Welfare and Breeding • Animal Behaviour/Communication • Principles of Animal Nursing • Feeding and Nutrition • Small Animal Rehabilitation • Wildlife and Ecology Conservation • Farm Livestock
Assessment is continuous, with end of module exams, a synoptic assessment and practical work. This course includes 300 hours of work experience through the duration of the two years and must include experience with kennels and catteries. All full-time students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level. Please see page 6 for more details. Entry Requirements • Five GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above (to include maths, a science subject and English), or successful completion of a suitable and relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit grade • Successful interview and initial assessment in literacy and numeracy • Applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the chosen subject area
Progression Progression routes shown are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria.
Study options may include: • Degree-level courses including Animal Behaviour, Animal Training, Science, Conservation or Zoology • Veterinary Nursing Diploma or Degree (at another institution) • Level 3 Apprenticeship Animal Management (Supervisory)

Duration and Attendance You will spend most of your time in the workplace employed as an apprentice. There will be knowledge workshops planned within your course. You will be expected to attend functional skills classes unless you already have prior achievement. Duration is 12-24 months depending on the level of study.
