Computing Level 3
Equivalent to three A Levels, this is the latest study of current cyber security, games development, networking and hardware.
This advanced level vocational course involves theoretical and practical study of both computer and IT related topics. Previous students have progressed to universities such as King’s College, the University of Lincoln and the University of Derby to study degree courses in computer gaming, ethical hacking and digital forensics. Forming part of our STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Maths) provision, it offers the opportunity to achieve internationally recognised qualifications whilst learning in our well-equipped, specialist IT teaching rooms.

We host our own independent network for you to install, test and maintain computer systems. You can explore networking, hardware/software installation and maintenance in our hardware lab. The course has the most relevant education and training for potential computing employees and those already employed in the industry. Throughout the course you will develop a range of personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in both working life and university study.
Qualification BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing (equivalent to three A Levels)

Course Content • Computer animation • Developing computer games • Networking • Computer systems (hardware) • IT troubleshooting and repair (hardware) • Website design • Software design and development • Programming languages
Assessment is continuous with projects, written assignments, timed tests and observation of practical work. All written work is submitted electronically through Turnitin. All full-time students will be required to study maths and English at the appropriate level. Please see page 6 for more details.
Entry Requirements • Five GCSE passes at grade 4 or above (grade C or above), including maths and English or a BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Computing and IT (minimum Merit grade) • Successful interview and initial assessment, including diagnostic tests • You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this subject area
