Engineering Level 2

Start gaining the skills you’ll need for a career in engineering, including product design, manufacturing or electrical engineering.

This predominantly practical, workrelated qualification provides you with an excellent grounding in current engineering principles and practices. You will complete projects and assignments based on real workplace situations, activities and demands. Our recently refurbished engineering workshops, electronic labs and welding centre have the latest in contemporary engineering equipment for you to take your first steps towards a career in engineering.

Specialist equipment - including a Computer Aided Design (CAD) suite, CNC mill, CNC lathe, pneumatics and extensive robotics equipment - will help to develop your skills for a diverse choice of careers in the areas of product design, computer aided manufacturing, electrical engineering, robotics and manufacturing, to name a few. You will be provided with a strong foundation for further study on either the Level 3 Extended Diploma or Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering. You can then progress to university-level study or enter into the workplace at technician level.

Duration One year

Course Content You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course. A selection of unit titles is shown below. • Engineering Materials • Machining Techniques • Interpreting & Using Engineering Information • Electrical and Mechanical Science for Engineering • Engineering Design • Welding • Mathematics for Engineering Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects, exams and practical work. All full-time students will be required to study maths and English at the appropriate level. Please see page 6 for more details.

Entry Requirements • Four GCSEs at grades 3 (grade D) or above, including maths and English, with at least one other subject in a relevant area • Successful interview and initial assessment, including diagnostic tests • You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this subject area

Our extensive engineering facilities provide you access to the very latest equipment and techniques encountered in a high-end engineering environment.
