Health & Social Care Level 3
An advancement of your professional, practical and academic skills, to progress you to university-level courses or in to the industry.
This inspirational and inclusive course addresses the national occupational standards in health and social care. With a supportive and creative approach to independent learning it enhances current working practices regarding broad social and health concerns in a professional context. You will also have the opportunity to use a variety of specialist equipment - such as ageing suits and blood pressure monitors - in order to broaden your awareness of other people’s needs. The course’s exceptional academic standard has been recognised by external awarding bodies and is reflected in our excellent progression results. You will be required to complete a minimum of 240 hours of work experience in a variety of placements. There will be three different work placements each year and you are encouraged to find your own placements.

Qualification BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care (equivalent to three A Levels)
Duration Two years
Course Content Topics you will cover include: • Human Lifespan Development • Communication in Health & Social Care • Meeting Individual Care & Support Needs • Anatomy & Physiology • Infection Control • Safeguarding Adults
You will learn through projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. All full-time students will be required to study maths and English at the appropriate level. Please see page 6 for more details. Entry Requirements • Five GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above (must include English Language) or successful completion of a suitable and relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or above • Successful interview and initial assessment in literacy and numeracy • Applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the chosen subject area and to complete the mandatory work experience
Progression Progression routes are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria.
Study options may include: • Foundation Degrees in Health & Social Care/Mental Health/Counselling/ Learning Support/Early Years • Higher Education in Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work or Paramedic Sciences
Employment options may include: • Nursing/Midwifery • Paramedic • Social Work • Teaching/Childcare

Course Content You will gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to your chosen apprenticeship and job role in the workplace, including: • Health & Safety • Communication • Personal Development • Safeguarding & Protection • Person Centred Approaches • Equality, Diversity & Inclusion • The Role of the Health & Social Care Worker
Duration and Attendance You will spend most of your time in the workplace employed as an apprentice. You will attend knowledge workshops and functional skills classes unless you have prior achievement. The apprenticeship will take around 12-24 months to complete dependent upon the level of study and your individual needs.
