Motor Vehicle Level 2
Learn the latest skills in the removal and fitting of chassis, electrical and engine components in a modern motor vehicle repair environment.
You will be provided with the essential knowledge and skills required for service technicians working on light vehicles, including electric and hybrids, in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. You will focus on the maintenance, removal and fitting of components, underpinned by a detailed theoretical knowledge of the subject. There are a growing number of vehicles on the road with complex engine and chassis management systems. As a result, there is a growing need for skilled craftspeople, technicians and competent motor vehicle engineers. Progression paths in this industry are numerous and varied, including routes into motorsport engineering. You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

Duration One year
Course Content This is a learning programme which involves you studying both the theoretical and practical aspects of the following: • Carrying Out Routine Vehicle Maintenance • Engine Units & Components • Electrical Auxiliary Units & Components • Chassis & Transmission Units & Components • Fuel, Ignition, Air & Exhaust Systems
You will be evaluated by successful completion of practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, online multiple-choice testing and assessments set by the awarding body. Entry Requirements • Four GCSE passes at grade 3 (grade D) or above (including maths and English), or successful completion of the IMI Level 1 Diploma in Transport or Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair • Successful interview and initial assessment • You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this subject area

Duration and Attendance You will spend most of your time in the workplace, employed as an apprentice, and you will be released by your employer to attend college for training one day a week. It will take around 2 years to complete the L2 Apprenticeship and a further 2 years to complete the Level 3 Apprenticeship.
