Health, Social Care & Childhood Studies Level 2

This course will introduce you to the childcare and health and social care sector.

This one year course will give you a chance to experience both childcare and health and social care, providing you with information to help you decide on your future educational or career path. You will develop knowledge and understanding of child development of children from birth to five years old. In addition to this, you will gain knowledge of the health and social care sector and growth and development through the life stages.

Duration One year

Course Content Topics you will cover include: • An Introduction to Working with Children aged 0-5 years • Development & well-being 0-5 years • An Introduction to the Health & Social Care Sector • Professional Practice & the Health & Social Care Practitioner • Human Growth & Development Through the Life Stages

Assessment consists of assignments which are graded pass, merit or distinction, practical projects and work placement-based observations.

You will also complete controlled assessments as part of the course. All fulltime students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level, see page 8 for more details.

Placement Requirements It would be beneficial to complete approx. 200 hours of work placement experience over one year (one day per week) and these could ideally be split across these vocational areas: • Nursery • Primary School • Residential care home

Entry Requirements • Four GCSEs at grade D (grade 3) or above • Successful interview • Clear Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS)

Progression Progression routes shown are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria.
