Sport Level 3

If you have an interest in sport and are hoping to pursue a career in one of the many sport, leisure or recreation related areas (such as teaching, coaching, leisure centre employment) then this is the course for you.

This course has been developed to provide you with the opportunity to gain detailed academic knowledge and understanding of sport and the related areas of exercise, science and performance. It is made up of 180 credits completed over two years, with units being valued at either five or ten credits. Each unit is assessed by a range of methods including written assessments, role play, presentations and practical activities. On successful completion of the two years students will be able to apply to university.

Qualification BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness)

Duration Two years

Course Content Units covered in first year include: • Anatomy and Physiology • Physiology of Fitness • Fitness Testing • Fitness Training

Units covered in second year include: • Practical Team Sport • Sport Psychology • Sport Nutrition • Sports Coaching

Assessment is continuous with assignments, projects and practical work. All full-time students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level, if not already achieved. See page 8 for more details.

Entry Requirements • Four GCSE passes at grade C (grade 4) or above (including maths or English) or a Merit grade or above in a BTEC Level 2 qualification • Successful interview and initial assessment • You will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this subject area

Progression Study options may include: • Foundation Degree or Degree in Sport Development and Coaching • Level 2/3 National Governing Body Awards • L4 Health & Fitness qualifications e.g. sports injuries, massage

Employment options may include: • Leisure industry • Health & Fitness industry • Coaching
