Indiana Women In Need Foundation Hosts 10th Annual Pink Pajama Party The 10th annual Pink Pajama Party hosted by the Indiana Women In Need Foundation will be held on February 21st and February 22, 2014 at the Indianapolis Marriott North at Keystone at the Crossing. This annual signature fundraising event provides a night of pampering to breast cancer survivors, their friends and family. The overnight event includes complimentary spa and salon services Friday evening in addition to an exciting silent auction, dinner and dancing to the sounds of Living Proof. Guests are invited to join this overnight party in their favorite pink pajamas and wake up the next day to a delicious breakfast and wrap-up activities. An annual sold out event, guests are encouraged to register on-line early at www iwinfoundation. org beginning January 20th. Our leading Pink Pajama Party sponsors are Vera Bradley, Defender Direct, Dirig Sheet Metal, Dr. J.P. and Shannon Gentile, Kroger, Dr. Cathy Carr and Dr. Irene Minor. This year’s event will feature an “On Target” theme marking recognition of the million dollar milestone of services provided to Indiana women in need by the Foundation. The Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to our community and corporate supporters that have made this possible. Funds raised from the Pink Pajama Party will support I.W.I.N. Foundation’s grant program that provides women the strength to endure breast cancer treatment by providing financial assistance for individualized services and support with house cleaning, gas and groceries, child care, massage, yoga, lawn care, snow removal, or photography. The I.W.I.N. Foundation was founded by Nancy Shepard in 2000 with a vision “to be an innovative organization built on passion, 4

Nancy Shepard, dedication and integrity, where Founder communities feel called to support the mission and to grow and be recognized as the ‘neighbor next door’ to all women and men enduring treatment for breast cancer.” Nancy’s dedication to the fight against breast cancer began several years ago with the diagnosis of breast cancer to a close friend. It was at that time that Nancy realized the impact treatment had on a woman. Due to the fatiguing nature of chemotherapy and the physical limitations of surgery, she recognized that even the simple things in life now became stressors, such as preparing a meal, bathing a child or cleaning the house. Having assisted 3 women in the first year and 4 men since its inception, I.W.I.N. now serves over 400 women and men each year throughout the state of Indiana serving all 92 counties. The youngest recipient is 18 and the oldest 93 years young. The I.W.I.N. Foundation is supported by two part time employees: Operations Director, Sue Wynne and Program Director, Kim Brinegar. The board of directors includes Founder Nancy Shepard, President Meghan Dagon, Vice President Claudia Davis, Amy Kemp, Julie Pappas, Jennifer Rubenstein, Karla Stein and Ann Marie Tiernon. To make an impact on a woman going through treatment, a tax deductible donation to the I.W.I.N. Foundation may be made on-line at www.iwinfoundation.org or by calling 317. 475.0565. Sponsorships for the Pink Pajama Party and Impact Sponsorships at the local, regional and state level are also available.

What Would You Do? If you are not currently living your dream life, you may have a little nagging feeling that something is missing from your life or perhaps you have the desire to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Have you ever thought about how wonderful it would be to do what you love to do instead of just dreaming about it? What do you love to do most? You need to believe that you were created to achieve something remarkable with your life. Following your dreams will draw you toward the kind of life you were born to love. Everybody has a dream and it is never too late to pursue it. Your dream is somewhere, waiting for you... and if you don’t go for it, something important won’t happen. And when we do pursue our dreams, we may create an opportunity to inspire others to fulfill their dreams too. Take a look at the happiest, most successful people on the planet, they are all doing something they love, creating something they believe in, and living a life of purpose and passion. Do that, and it doesn’t matter how much money you make. They are using their dreams to make contributions to the world. What special talents, skills, and gifts do you have to share with the world? If you spend time thinking about your dreams and passions in life, you are taking the first step toward making them a reality. Take time to be quiet... This is something we don’t do enough in this busy world of ours. We rush, rush, rush and we are constantly listening to noise all around us. The human heart was meant for times of quiet, to peer deep within. It is

when we do this that our hearts are set free to soar and take light on the wings of our own dreams! Schedule some quiet “dream time” this week. No other people. No cell phone. No computer. Just you, a pad, a pen and your thoughts. But what do you do if you don’t know what you want to do? What if you don’t know what your dream is? This is a common problem, and many people wander through much of their lives without discovering their passions and go from job to job, unfulfilled and miserable. Some of us were not raised in a home where dreams were encouraged. Get real was the motto -- go to school and get good grades so you can get a good enough job to pay the bills, get married, raise a family, and work until you die. Reality is for those who lack imagination! Fortunately, we don’t have to buy into that reality. We have access to books, teachers, friends and mentors who can inspire us to be an avid dreamer! Please be encouraged to relax and have fun -- literally start dreaming! Anything is possible in your dreams! If you become what you think about, then thinking is creating. Imagine! If time and money were unlimited and not an issue and you knew you could not fail, what would you do? Clear your mind and be creative!

FEBRUARY As you are reading this, it will probably be February. As I write this, Indiana is surviving the third day of blizzard conditions and "barbaric (as the weather reporter said) cold temperatures." I thought it would be interesting to take a look at FEBRUARY and its special attributes. I think of February as the "love month" due to Valentine's Day, but there is much more to February than that. The Roman calendar refers to February as "Februarius," a word derived from Latin, meaning "purification." (1) The calendar did not always include a "February" because the Romans considered winter to be a month-less time (something the blizzard reminds us is basically true), but in 713 BC, the powers that be in the Roman Empire added February, and it has remained on the calendar ever since. (2) February has always been one of my favorite months because it seems to me that it causes us to reflect; perhaps the cold temperatures, the short days, the overcast skies and the holidays long past us add to this time of insight. It was not a surprise to me that the birthstone for February is amethyst, which signals piety, humility, spiritual wisdom and sincerity. (3) These are all qualities which, if we are Lisa Adler honest, we admire Trust & Estate Practice in others and Group desire to attain for

ourselves. It also contains Valentine's Day, which is a day in which we reflect on those we love or have loved the most (a most worthy endeavor). :) Here are a few of the many other special days in February: * National Bird- Feeding Month (United States) * Super Bowl: First Sunday of February (United States)

Marti Starkey Chair, Trust & Estate Practice Group

* Presidents Day: Third Monday of February (United States)

* Groundhog Day: February 2 (United States and Canada)

* Abraham Lincoln's Birthday: February 12 (United States)

* Valentine's Day: February 14 * George Washington's Birthday: February 22 (United States)

* Leap Day: February 29 (every four years, with some exceptions)

Enjoy your February (it can be pronounced either with the first "r" or without it)!!! (1), (2), & (3) - Taken from Wikipedia (R), a registered trademark of the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization.

SPOTLIGHT Head Over Heels in Love With Success Have you ever struggled with knowing your purpose and whether you consider yourself a “Success?” I’m here to tell you - your business challenges, the school you did or didn’t go to, your circumstances, and/ or your past are not the problem for not achieving yet what you desire. There is one thing that may be standing in your way and I’d like to pull back the curtain for you. At Successful Women Made Here, as I interview notable businesswomen, my last question to them always is, “What does Success mean to YOU?” And, their answers have varied from, “Living the life I choose - loving my work,” to “Having the luxury to be there for my family and kids.” I’ve come to a conclusion for Success. It’s personal. And, what’s tricky about it is – just like us women, “The road to SUCCESS has Curves.” There are also obstacles and detours along the way. Even mega-millionaires and celebrities struggle with success on some level. From the Grammy winning singer who wonders how she’ll stay on top to the wannabe “bake and take” mom next-door thinking she’s inferior because she didn’t get it together to whip up homemade cookies as holiday gifts. We all can relate – to sometimes thinking we won’t measure up. And, just when we may feel confident - that voice of doubt sneaks in. So what is “Success?” Here’s the deal - success is defined on your terms if you are bold enough to take it on along with its hurdles to jump over and its hoops to jump through. Success comes down to “How do You Make Your Mark” in the world. But, to “Make Your Mark” is not just in the “what do I do” or “how do I do that?” The pivotal point behind “Make Your Mark” is in knowing “WHY?”

by:

Sheryl Matthys, Founder of Successful Women Made Here

Your “why” is the driving force to achieve it. Discovering your “why” may be easier said than done. Because your “why” goes beyond paying the bills, a great vacation, making a profit, or simply having more free time. Your “why” is the key to being extraordinary. And it has nothing to do with education, background, or money. My “why” is to encourage and mentor women to Stand Up and Speak Out for their beliefs, and ideas. I do this through what I call, “The 3Cs” (Courtesy, Courage, and Common Sense) on both a personal development and business level. Successful Women Made Here is based on “The 3Cs” as all it takes to BE THE CHANGE the world needs. With “The 3Cs” in balance, you can take action and leave a legacy you can be proud of. When I work with clients privately, I start with my “SMB” method - Story/Message/Brand to discover your “why. ” We uncover your Story because therein lies the Message you want to convey, which leads to your Brand. Still figuring out your “why?” Join us on your adventure at our Successful Women Made Here monthly events that include a notable businesswoman, training, and mastermind session to help solve your challenges and share your triumphs; and/or with a private session. Fall in love with success! I’d love to hear from you and learn what motivates and inspires you, too. What intrigues you enough to attend an event? I’d also like to gift you my ebook “The Top 3 Characteristics the Most Successful Women Possess” which you’ll find at www.SuccessfulWomenMadeHere.com.

Anxiety Can Be Controlled Anxiety can feel so overwhelming and I am convinced that it is more prevalent because of our fast paced lives that leave little room for quiet contemplation. I have run anxiety groups for over 15 years and what I know to be true is that anxiety is ruled by fear. Fear robs women of a sense of power and control because it creates a sense of the unknown which feeds into the "what if" syndrome. Some people suffer from generalized anxiety which means that they tend to look at everything with a sense of fear or trepidation. In thinking about a new job they may ask themselves "What if I am making the wrong decision?" or "What happens if it interferes with my schedule and I can't be as available to the kids?" Women who have this tendency will more often look at what could go wrong as opposed to how things might work. Some women suffer from panic attacks which range from mild to debilitating. These attacks can occur when a stressor presents itself.....the boss calls you into her office, your best friend won't return your calls, your husband is missing for hours at a time, or it can awaken you from a sound sleep after having a really great day. My clients feel very angry when there are no identifiable stressors that create that unexpected panic attack which can include a feeling of hyperventilation, chest pressure, and sweaty palms. The fact that there is no known stressor creates extra anxiety because they fear future attacks making it difficult to enjoy the happy times. The Physical Strategy There are some simple things that you can do to manage your anxiety but they require that you do them diligently. I teach women that they need to both prevent and manage the anxiety. Often times techniques can be used for both. For instance, deep breathing with visualization, when used daily can help to prevent anxiety from becoming unmanageable. It only takes 3 minutes to 20

do the exercise. Close your eyes and imagine breathing in a color Carol Juergensen Sheets that represents peace and tranquility...watch as it enters your nose, goes deep into your lungs and into your diaphragm. Then imagine a color that represents stress and envision that you are blowing out that color deep from your belly up through your lungs and out your mouth. Repeat this visualization 3 to 5 times. When you do this, you calm your central nervous system down and you keep it in a more relaxed state. The Emotional Remedy People who are prone to anxiety typically worry about the worst scenarios occurring. It can be very helpful to identify your fears and anxieties and soothe yourself as if you were talking to your child. If you are going to be late and you begin to feel anxious you can tell yourself that being late is not going to matter 10 years from now and things will be just fine....or if you fear that your co-workers are angry with you ....you might reassure yourself and say "I am going to let go and let God deal with this." When you use self-soothing statements life feels less overwhelming. I keep a list of coping statements at the office so that I can choose statements that are reassuring to calm the anxieties. You have a lot of power to regulate your emotions....so the next time you feel anxious....choose and use a skill to manage the anxiety and see the difference it can make! Carol Juergensen Sheets LCSW PCC is a psychotherapist and personal life coach. She does motivational speaking and empowerment trainings locally and nationally. Prepare for Cold and Flu Season A clean internal system is especially important during the cold and flu season. Each breath one takes in travels through the lungs and is transferred to the bloodstream and sent throughout the body to each cell. If the body is already overloaded with toxins, then organs such as the lungs become weak Nancy Spahr, and unable to effectively Founder filter incoming pathogens. Thus, the body becomes more susceptible to colds and flu. The best starting points for maintaining health through any illness is living a healthy lifestyle. Small steps such as getting rest, eating well, drinking water and daily exercise provide the body with what it needs to build a healthy

immune system. Cleansing Waters is dedicated to educating and assisting one with this lifestyle. “We know to achieve good health and maintain it, there has to be a balance between nourishing the body and cleaning the toxins that have accumulated there, particularly in the digestive system,” Nancy stated, “so we also teach basic Body Ecology Diet principles and discuss the benefits of drinking alkalizing ionized water as a very important part of achieving good health.” The Body Ecology Diet incorporates foods that have high amounts of friendly bacteria that enhance the immune system and balance the internal ecosystem. Cleansing Waters also has a range of products and therapies to keep your lungs and immune system running strong throughout the season: whole food supplements, internal cleansing products, non-toxic body care, alkaline water, and home ionizers. If looking to avoid the cold and flu this year, Cleansing Waters is the perfect place to start.

Carolyn's Story

About a year ago, After I’d given up on ever losing the weight I had put on over the past 10 years. I tried everything out there and nothing worked. One day I saw an Before ad for Pounds and Inches Away in Castleton. I called them and decided to try their HCG Weight Loss Program. I started the program in September of 2012and was amazed how easily the weight came off. The staff at Pounds and Inches Away were very supportive and helpful. They were always available to answer my questions. They even called me to help with my accountability. Yes, I had to follow the program, but with their direction I was able to lose weight and keep it off. I completed two rounds between Labor Day 2012 and Easter 2013 – and I lost 52 lbs. Losing the weight made me realize – I wasn’t as old as I felt! My blood pressure is down, my cholesterol is improving. My health, overall, is significantly improved from a year ago. It wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely worth it. I feel alive again and Before After it’s all because I walked into Pounds and Inches Away Castleton and let them get me started on a new path.

Hilton's Story

After

I was significantly overweight. My doctor was concerned that my weight would cause certain health problems as I aged. Before Pounds and Inches Away helped me lose 70 pounds over the course of six months! I found the program during the first 40 days to be easy and safe. I learned to eat much healthier and that was something my wife and I wanted to do for years. I followed the suggested meals, measuring the protein consistently. I had an apple as a snack in the afternoon or evening as well as learned to drink water. The maintenance period offered the opportunity to get reintroduced to some of the other foods that I liked, but in moderation. I have been able to maintain my weight since stopping with the drops. One highlight is that I have not had a Coke or Pepsi in over 19 months! Kathryn and her team are very supportive and helpful. The Pounds and Inches Away regime works, is safe, and you will love the results!

We have SUPER Vision, we can see you thin! Take us up on our commitment to YOU!
