The HCG Story... The story of HCG began in the Fifties when, after having done research on weight loss for 40 years and research on HCG specifically for twenty years, Dr. Simeons reported that patients taking small amounts of HCG, in conjunction with a very low calorie diet, could lose weight safely and quickly, without exercise, hunger, irritability, muscle injury or weakness. But all HCG is not created equal. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of confusion created by products being sold without guidance that call themselves “HCG” but do not contain any in their ingredient list. HCG is one of 67 hormones naturally produced in the human body, so if a product states that it is hormone free; it is not HCG. Dr. Simeons’ diet protocol ought not to be followed without real HCG. The Pounds and Inches Away program starts with pharmaceutical HCG. HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is not a growth or sex hormone; it does not feminize men or masculinize women. It is not an appetite suppressant, stimulant or vitamin supplement. Nor does HCG produce weight loss by itself. However, in concert with a very specific balanced diet, and our help in avoiding unexpected environmental or behavioral deviations, HCG will allow the body to naturally pull the nutrients and calories needed from stored fat reserves into the blood stream at the rate of 1500 to 4000 calories per day. We are sure that those who follow our protocol WILL lose 20-30 pounds in 40 days. These fantastic results ARE typical with our full service packages. The Pounds and Inches Away program is not your run of the mill “eat less and exercise more” diet for a slow loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week that seems to take the rest of your life. Our protocol tricks Mother Nature a little, maybe, however only natural processes are
at work. Per Dr. Simeons, it is safe and so very effective. At Pounds and Inches Away, we are also excited to be able to offer Whole Kathryn Azhar, Owner Body Vibration and her staff technology by Advanced Healthworks to help people reach their goals. Ten minutes on our “Jiggy” machine produces benefits comparable to those gained in a onehour workout without the sweat and effort of traditional exercise. More than 700 medical studies have been published about the health benefits of Whole Body Vibration. These benefits include improved circulation, increased muscle strength and flexibility, better core conditioning, improved range of motion, enhanced metabolism, increased bone density, and more. The Whole Body Vibration technology has also been used to improve problems with osteoporosis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, incontinence, arthritis, Parkinson’s’ disease and other conditions. We encourage the use of these machines for their wonderful skin tightening effects. To get slim and stay that way, call our office at (317) 849-THIN today. We will help you reach your weight loss goals and improve your health, appearance and self-image. Nothing tastes as good as THIN feels…

Security vs. Insecurity --- Part Two (A Message of Faith and Hope) Even the most arrogant among people must admit that there are times when they are not in control of what happens. Security can become insecurity in a matter of moments. Yesterday, I awoke to an email that a friend from high school had suffered a massive stroke, which had left him on life support, clinging very loosely to life. This was the second of our school mates to experience a massive stroke in the recent, few months since we all happily celebrated our 40th high school reunion. We had experienced such a close class during our grade school and high school years. It was a phenomenon about which many people from Evansville spoke. We had to face again the sad news that another of our friends was suffering. My neighbor is a beautiful woman --- on the inside and out. She and her husband are dear to my family. Recently, they (who are known as quite the dancers - Dancing with the Stars style) attended a formal dinner/dance, and as they were leaving the dance floor, a young man, who is still anonymous, swung around and inadvertently knocked her to the ground. She fell face first (heard a crack); then, on her arm and then, her knee. She was taken to the Emergency Room via ambulance, and when we saw her next, she looked as if she had been in a horrific auto accident. Two months later, she is healing, but her face is still bruised and swollen, with a place that may need surgery to attempt to make it look as close as possible to normal. Her hand and arm have damage to the ligaments which will likely never return to its function. It happened so fast; she did not see it coming nor was she able to brace for it. Lisa Adler
Many of you reading this are facing unexpected
difficulties of your own. You may be waiting in a doctor’s office to be tested for an illness for which you did not plan. You may be facing a health situation with a parent, and you feel that you are losing your mom or your dad. You may have a child with a lifethreatening struggle or a marriage that is less Marti Starkey than fulfilling. If you are looking for security in your circumstances, you may need to look again. My recent readings have brought me to the book of Isaiah in the Bible. It has been a surprising and rewarding journey for me. There is a shelter in the storm. “But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Isaiah 43:1-3a. So, we have a choice. We can choose to be fearful and dismayed or we can choose to trust that the Lord will strengthen and uphold us, as He has promised. Our American heritage brings us to the same place, as in an American Folk Hymn called How Can I Keep from Singing: “No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I’m clinging; since Love is Lord of heav’n and earth: how can I keep from singing." Happiness Habits Last month I mentioned that throughout 2013, I will bring you my thoughts and suggestions on how to create more of what you are looking for. So if you thought – happiness, that’s what I want more of; on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate how happy you are? Is it affected by what’s going on in your life, or do you believe as I, that real happiness comes from within? The best book I have read about achieving happiness is by Marci Shimoff - Happy for No Reason. Marci discusses 21 Happiness Habits which if followed can help you experience happiness from the inside out regardless of what’s going on, in and around your life. One of her suggested habits I first learned from my mom – “Habit #2 – Look for the Lesson and the Gift: Instead of blaming others or making excuses, find the lesson and the blessing in each circumstance.” No matter what the situation, try asking, ok, what am I supposed to be learning here and what could the higher purpose be? If you believe everything happens for a reason, then the manner in which we react to life’s challenges and the way we answer these questions

Resolutions vs. Goal Setting For most average people, it is right around this flip of the calendar page, when New Year’s Resolutions are already a distant memory. Just for fun, I googled the definition of New Year’s Resolution: a promise that you make to yourself to start doing something good or stop doing something bad on the first day of the year. It is an American tradition to quickly ramble off a list of things like “I am going to work out more, eat less sugar, spend more time with family, get organized…” Does that list look familiar? It is almost expected that our New Year’s Resolutions will be quickly forgotten and become nothing but a stab of guilt in our side, yet another failure chalked up on our life’s scoreboard… Maybe, that is precisely what they are designed to be! A check list of exactly what we do not want in our life. Making resolutions is a place to start in our evaluation of our life. We can only begin to know what we DO want, once we know what we DON’T want! Resolutions should be a beginning to an evaluation of the past and a leap board to setting goals for the future. How big a game do you want to play? There was a well-known study of the Harvard University class of '53. In this study, the researchers revealed that only 10 percent of the students had established any goals at all, and that only three percent of the men and women in that class had written their goals down on paper. Twenty years later, the researchers again interviewed those very same former class members. They were involved in their careers and had families now. The three percent who two decades earlier had written down their goals were now worth more in economic terms than the entire remaining 97 percent of the class combined! Of course financial success isn't everything, but this study clearly shows the results of writing down your goals. I would like to share a few simple steps to get you on
track to living the life of your dreams. Today, take some time to REALLY reflect about your dreams. How do you see yourself 1 year from now, 3 years, 5 years & even 10 years? Look at all areas of your life – spiritual, emotional, physical, social, financial, intellectual. Write down some of your past successes. Make a list of 50 items you would like to accomplish in the next 10 years. Write down everything from organizing your closet, to starting your own business, to writing a book, to owning your own private jet! Now pick the top 3 to 4 realistic goals that you know are attainable this year. Make sure this realistic goal is very specific and is measurable. Example – not “I want to lose weight” but “I want to lose 10 pounds by June 1, I will eat more healthy foods and exercise every day.” Not “I want to make more money” but “I want a $10,000 a year raise by June 1 – I will add value to my company by coming in earlier every day.” A very important and frequently over looked component to taking the action necessary to achieving success is the accountability factor! Share your goal with a positive, successful person you trust to encourage you. When someone knows what your goals are, they help hold you accountable. Being accountable to your committed, disciplined, and sustained action is the final ingredient in the miracle process of materializing any achievement you can conceive. "My career as a musician and artist began as most do: dreams in my heart that I acted upon. I began writing music and taking piano lessons at a young age. By the time I was 21 and had graduated from college I decided to move to Los Angeles to fully pursue music. It was there that I began having TMJ symptoms including migraines, headaches, eye floaters, ringing in the ears and other wild symptoms. I continued pursuing my career while making regular visits to an array of specialists and doctors. No one could tell me what was wrong.
I left LA and moved to Nashville and continued to see different doctors but each one of them turned me away stating that, "nothing was wrong," and, "it's all in your head." I was in constant pain and desperate for help so when a friend recommended a chiropractor I jumped at the opportunity for help. Post X-rays finally had an answer! The chiropractors showed me the different vertebrae in my spine that were misaligned as well as my jaw. I began to search on the internet for jaw dislocations and found that TMJD described many of the symptoms I was having. Eventually, I was connected with Dr. Smith and the Really Smile team in Indiana. This was the final chapter of healing for my TMJ disorder. Finally! Mixed with upper cervical chiropractic care, Dr. Smith's techniques and the appliance I began wearing stopped my headaches dead in their tracks. My pain was gone! I felt like I was getting my life back. I was able to once again perform pain free. Not only was I able to move forward with healing from TMJD but I also was able to finally release my first studio EP, "Slow Down." Thank you Dr. Smith and the Really Smile team for giving me my life back...pain free!!!" Rachel Leigh's album, "Slow Down" is now available on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. Book Review by Jeanne Lewer: The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth, By John Maxwell. New York: Center Street, 2012. 260 pages. There is an explosion of self-help books on the market today and there are hundreds, if not thousands, to choose from. John Maxwell is one of best-known and widely published authors of this genre. He has written several dozen books and sold more than 21 million copies. According to the book jacket, Maxwell’s latest “will help you become a lifelong learner whose potential keeps increasing and never gets “used up.”” The basic idea is that in order to reach your potential you must grow and that growth must be intentional. Like other recently published self-help books, Maxwell recommends reading one chapter at a time and doing the exercises at the end of each chapter before moving on. As the title suggests, there are 15 “laws” and each one requires you to take certain steps to grow. Law premises include: growth doesn’t just happen; you must know yourself to grow yourself; you must see value in yourself to add value to yourself; motivation keeps you going – discipline keeps you growing; to maximize growth, develop strategies; and growing yourself enables you to grow others. To be honest, I haven’t yet completed all the exercises listed in the book but several of the messages resonated with me immediately and have helped me change a few habits. One of my favorite messages is in the first chapter where Maxwell tells readers to stop waiting for inspiration to start something. He thinks motivation is a trap. “Forget motivation. Just do it.” Maxwell recommends waking up each morning repeating the mantra “do it now.” For example, don’t wait to start your diet tomorrow and lead into the dreaded event by pigging out today. Hmmm, who hasn’t done that? Start your diet the minute you decide you need to lose weight. Another key message is that growth thrives in a conducive environment. Maxwell says that we become the combined average of the people we hang around the most. If your core circle of family and friends are not oriented towards growth or high achievement then you will be less likely to achieve your goals. And, you might need to find a different, more supportive crowd. Overall, the book has good advice and many readers will likely find it helpful. Like Maxwell says, learning and growing takes concerted effort and ongoing dedication; if you don’t try to create the future you want you must be willing accept the future you get. Sometimes Maxwell gets overly enthusiastic for me but no more so than other self help coaches. Nonetheless, starting the book in the New Year may be just the ticket for some to help them achieve their resolutions. In addition to books, Maxwell offers free online newsletters and daily inspirational messages via his web site www. JohnMaxwellOnLeadership.com. Jeanne Lewer is a consultant in quality, continuous process improvement, and proposal development. She can be reached at 317-413-1520. Please say “I found it in Indy Metro Woman Magazine!” Thanks!

What Is Your Happiness Set Point? Have you ever worked hard to lose weight only to find that once you achieve your goal and become more lax you are likely to gain your weight back because you did not maintain the behaviors that assisted you in being successful? You may have heard of the terminology "set point" which typically refers to a standard weight that one reverts back to if they don't continue their exercise or if they stop documenting in their food log. Many nutritionists and exercise physiologists believe that the body has an internal mechanism that reverts back to a default weight if you don't practice due diligence and work the steps it takes "religiously" to maintain your new weight. Well your attitude and mental outlook require the same discipline if you are going to maintain PMA (positive mental attitude.) You may remember that a recent research study done with people who professed that they were happy cited 3 factors that were prevalent in their daily thinking. Staying in the moment, having gratitude, and reframing promoted PMA. When people followed this simple formula...they tended to be more positive, more empowered and more receptive to what life had to deal them. They were able to have a happier "set point" because their happiness was not contingent on external factors. Their set point was internally driven which allowed them to cope with life's obstacles as opportunities for growth. Interestingly the study showed that people acquire PMA one of two ways. They are either genetically born being more positive or they are taught to be happier by family members who also practice the skills. As you think back in your life, who empowered you to think positive? Who seemed to smile the most? Who seemed to make lemonade out of lemons and take tough life circumstances in stride? You may be thinking that you did not have such a positive role model. The good news is that you can stretch your positive muscle by practicing the art of happiness. The model is simple but requires daily practice. First you must decrease your multi-tasking and appreciate
what is directly before you. That can be tough in this technological world. Do one thing at a time and really allow yourself to experience and appreciate it.....even if it is changing your child's diapers! Secondly, you need to appreciate at least 5 things Carol Juergensen Sheets that you are grateful for per day. The research indicates that you are more successful if you write them down in a gratitude journal that is left out for all to read. Ask the kids or grandkids to help you identify what they can be grateful for and feel positive energy as they come up with their own gratitude list. And lastly, you will increase your set point if you look at life's challenges as opportunities to gain strength and resilience. When you use reframing, you move out of the victim role and into empowerment which makes you feel more accomplished and actualized. When you realize that you always have the power to decide how something is going to affect you and what you are going to focus on, it allows you to internalize things differently which also increases the happiness factor. So as you move into 2013, ask yourself if you can incorporate these 3 simple tasks to improve your mental health set point and watch the investment it makes in your spirit and the lives of others! You have the power to change generations to come! Carol Juergensen Sheets LCSW PCC is a psychotherapist and personal life coach. She does motivational speaking and empowerment trainings locally and nationally. To find out more about her services--contact her at www.carolthecoach.com or call her at 317 218-3479. Prepare for Cold & Flu Season...
A clean internal system is especially important during the cold and flu season. Each breath one takes in travels through the lungs and is transferred to the bloodstream and sent throughout the body to each cell. If the body is already overloaded with toxins, then organs Nancy Spahr, such as the lungs Founder become weak and unable to effectively filter incoming pathogens. Thus, the body becomes more susceptible to colds and flu. The best starting points for maintaining health through any illness is living a healthy lifestyle. Small steps such as getting rest, eating well, drinking water and daily exercise provide the body with what it needs to build a healthy immune
system. Cleansing Waters is dedicated to educating and assisting one with this lifestyle. “We know to achieve good health and maintain it, there has to be a balance between nourishing the body and cleaning the toxins that have accumulated there, particularly in the digestive system,” Nancy stated, “so we also teach basic Body Ecology Diet principles and discuss the benefits of drinking alkalizing ionized water as a very important part of achieving good health.” The Body Ecology Diet incorporates foods that have high amounts of friendly bacteria that enhance the immune system and balance the internal ecosystem. Cleansing Waters also has a range of products and therapies to keep your lungs and immune system running strong throughout the season: whole food supplements, internal cleansing products, non-toxic body care, alkaline water, and home ionizers. If looking to avoid the cold and flu this year, Cleansing Waters is the perfect place to start.
