More Freedom – What Mother’s Day Means to Me Mother’s Day is both a very hard day and a very special day for me. It’s a hard day because I lost my mom to breast cancer 20 years ago this July. She was only 70 years young and I was only 35 years old - from my perspective, way too young for her and for me. You see my mom was always my best friend. I could not only tell her anything, she always knew the right thing to say. I was truly blessed to have been raised by a woman who, even though I am only 4’9” tall, raised me to be a very tall, confident woman. She taught me how to dream and how I can do anything I set my mind to. She taught me to set goals and do what is needed to reach those goals. And she did it most times very subtly. She was the perfect example of unconditional love. She was kind, compassionate, never had a harsh word for anyone, always smiled and never complained…even throughout her 15 year illness journey. So I miss her terribly, especially on Mother’s Day. I also really love Mother’s Day, because 34 years ago I was blessed with my daughter. Raising her as a single mom, we grew up together. It

wasn’t always easy, as I missed out on a lot as I climbed the corporate ladder, but we have a relationship like none other – another best friend. I have watched her grow and blossom into a beautiful, confident woman and phenomenal mother. Now, the best part of Mother’s Day is being a Nanie (aka grandma). I love being silly, playing make-believe, climbing the 4 story jungle gyms, going to the theater, planting in the garden and so much more. One of my favorite things to do is what I call Nanie days…where we get to spend an entire day together. We go to breakfast, the museum or zoo, shopping…a full day and night. This is the time I get to teach them what my mom taught me and what I have learned. When asked what you want more of, another common response was more freedom. My business, Women Changing Lives, allows me the freedom to do what I want, when I want. It enables me to have Nanie days … no boss to ask, setting my own hours, work and family balance. If you want to create a life of freedom and flexibility, call me at 317-828-3061 or email Karen@WomenChangingLives.net.

The HCG Story... The story of HCG began in the Fifties when, after having done research on weight loss for 40 years and research on HCG specifically for twenty years, Dr. Simeons reported that patients taking small amounts of HCG, in conjunction with a very low calorie diet, could lose weight safely and quickly, without exercise, hunger, irritability, muscle injury or weakness. But all HCG is not created equal. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of confusion created by products being sold without guidance that call themselves “HCG” but do not contain any in their ingredient list. HCG is one of 67 hormones naturally produced in the human body, so if a product states that it is hormone free; it is not HCG. Dr. Simeons’ diet protocol ought not to be followed without real HCG. The Pounds and Inches Away program starts with pharmaceutical HCG. HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is not a growth or sex hormone; it does not feminize men or masculinize women. It is not an appetite suppressant, stimulant or vitamin supplement. Nor does HCG produce weight loss by itself. However, in concert with a very specific balanced diet, and our help in avoiding unexpected environmental or behavioral deviations, HCG will allow the body to naturally pull the nutrients and calories needed from stored fat reserves into the blood stream at the rate of 1500 to 4000 calories per day. We are sure that those who follow our protocol WILL lose 20-30 pounds in 40 days. These fantastic results ARE typical with our full service packages. The Pounds and Inches Away program is not your run of the mill “eat less and exercise more” diet for a slow loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week that seems to take the rest of your life. Our protocol tricks Mother Nature a little, maybe, however only natural processes are

at work. Per Dr. Simeons, it is safe and so very effective. At Pounds and Inches Away, we are also excited to be able to offer Whole Kathryn Azhar, Owner Body Vibration and her staff technology by Advanced Healthworks to help people reach their goals. Ten minutes on our “Jiggy” machine produces benefits comparable to those gained in a onehour workout without the sweat and effort of traditional exercise. More than 700 medical studies have been published about the health benefits of Whole Body Vibration. These benefits include improved circulation, increased muscle strength and flexibility, better core conditioning, improved range of motion, enhanced metabolism, increased bone density, and more. The Whole Body Vibration technology has also been used to improve problems with osteoporosis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, incontinence, arthritis, Parkinson’s’ disease and other conditions. We encourage the use of these machines for their wonderful skin tightening effects. To get slim and stay that way, call our office at (317) 849-THIN today. We will help you reach your weight loss goals and improve your health, appearance and self-image. Nothing tastes as good as THIN feels…

Top 5 Tips to Successfully Attend a Networking Event You are thinking of attending a great networking event where you will meet a ton of great contacts. Want a guaranteed ROI the next time you attend a networking event? Do you have a plan of action? If you fail to plan, you plan to fail! Below are 5 Tips you should put into practice when you attend any networking event to get the most value for your time! Many people attend networking events and then don't act on the great contacts they met. By following these easy steps, you'll be a networking genius in no time. 1. Don't Let Those Business Cards Collect Dust It's easy to go to a networking event and put the business cards in your pocket or purse and never look at them again. However, this defeats the whole purpose of attending the event in the first place. You must act on making the most of your new connections and do so within 24 hours of attending the event. If you procrastinate, you run the risk of your new connection forgetting who you are. Your new contacts will also be impressed you took the time to reach out to them so soon after your introduction. 2. Show Your Value To New Contacts People are more likely to want to connect with you if they think there's something advantageous to them in making a connection with you. Think of always creating a Win-Win scenario. Therefore, it's probably best to build a relationship with your new connection rather than straight out asking the person for a referral or job right away. Perhaps you discussed a shared interest or some other timely topic. Share additional information with your new contact by sending a link to an article you recently read about that topic. If you stay in the person's short-term memory, he/she will be likely to contact you when there's a job

opening in your field or a business opportunity. 3. Remember It's Not All About You Continuing with the value-added theme, some of the best networkers put their own personal motives aside to connect other people. This can take place at the networking event or afterwards, but try to make connections between the people who you have recently met. This also helps with remembrance because both people will remember you as the person who connected them. 4. Realize Technology Is Your Friend One of the easiest ways to stay in touch with a contact is to connect with the person on Social Media. For example on LinkedIn: instead of sending the boring form message, type in a few sentences about the networking event you just attended and a snippet from your conversation. People have an easier time remembering your meeting if you remind them where you met and what you talked about. 5. Plan For Your Next Networking Event Networking is not a one-time thing. You should try to constantly expand your network and improve upon your networking skills. The more you practice networking, the better you will become with this skill. Business Women Connect offers a membership platform like no other! Our idea is to create organic, automated networking channels between members regardless of location or service. BWC members can bridge gaps within their business with more connections. Check it out today! Shelly Aristizabal is the new President of Business Women Connect. WHAT WOULD WE HEAR IF WE LISTENED? -- PART TWO Albert Einstein, the renowned American physicist whose theories of relativity changed our thinking on the nature of time and space, stated, "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." (He was a genius and won a Nobel Prize, but he also was dyslexic and failed at traditional schooling in the early years.) This focuses one of the problems of the current age. We have no time to listen nor to be in nature. Professor Einstein died in 1955, but I often wonder what he would say now when most of our "spare" time is spent in front of an iPad or iPhone or desktop computer. When we are away from those devices, we will have the television on or the radio playing. There is very little time spent alone, thinking, in nature. I personally believe that God wants to speak to us, not verbally, but in our thoughts, impressions, circumstances, and in nature, including the peace He gives us. If we do not spend time alone, without digital device, television and radio, how will we ever hear Him? Oswald Lisa Adler Chambers, the

16

author of the beloved and famous book, My Utmost For His Highest, states that "our part is to walk in the light and to obey all that He reveals to [us]." It would be interesting to conduct a Marti Starkey personal survey to determine how many minutes of each of our days are spent alone, "walking in the light," without any interference of sound from a device. We do not even have to tell anyone that we are conducting our own personal survey. The Bible gives much instruction in this. Here is one of my favorites, "This is what The Lord says: 'Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.' " Jeremiah 6:16. Taking time in nature helps this process along. It allows us the time and the space to hear what we need to hear from Him; to live the full lives that God intends. It seems that Albert Einstein knew a thing or two. by Marti Starkey

SPOTLIGHT

Health & Nutrition Technology (HNT-Indiana) has served the Indianapolis area for more than a decade. Medical Director, Dawn Ayers MDendocrinology, and Program Director, Sheila Henson RD, together opened and continue to lead this successful medically supervised behavior modification program. Tom Landry’s quote, ‘Leadership is getting someone to do what they don't want to do, to achieve what they want to achieve’ is as true in football as in heath and weight management. Dr. Ayers recognized the need for an effective weight management program in Central Indiana. She had aspirations to offer a non-surgical medical option to her patients beyond standard commercial or support programs. Thus it was an ideal fit to team up such a well-known and respected medical provider in conjunction with the proven weight management program in HNT. The result: the need of providing safe, rapid and effective weight loss is being met—consistently! The average weight loss is 16% in the first 20 weeks; maintained at 1,2,3,4 plus years out. HNT believes that support combined with education is what it takes to make a lifestyle change permanent. Four essential skill-sets: Behavioral; Nutritional; Environmental; Physical Activity are introduced and developed. Sustainable Health improvement often starts with initial weight loss. We can assist anyone ready to change. No minimum or maximum weight loss is required to participate. Making our motto a reality: Change your life… so YOU can live it! l. Sheila Henson, RD Our approach Program Director includes medical supervision as is r. Dawn M. Ayers, MD appropriate per Medical Director

individual need. Every participant is involved in the behavior modification process. We utilize a restricted caloric meal plan incorporating Health One meal replacements. This versatile tool allows individuals to accomplish their health and weight goals. Exceptional nutrition is obtained with 125% of all RDIs, 75g protein, in approximately 1000 calories with variety and flexibility in cooking, and continued use for as long as they wish. The team concept is strengthened with a staff of four dedicated Registered Dietitians specializing in the field of obesity management. Having grown over the years there are various central Indiana locations: Monday evenings at Carmel St Vincent's Professional Bldg. suite 275; Tuesday evening at Riverview Hospital 4 TCU classroom; Thursday evening at Community Health North 7250 Bldg. suite 100; Thursday evening at American Health Network in Peru, IN; and week days and Tuesday & Thursday evenings at our home base 1201 E Main St suite B, Plainfield, IN. HNT’s goal is to teach you the skills to develop a healthy lifestyle and to coach you while practicing these skills. We invite you to attend a FREE orientation to learn more about our program. All of the details are provided for you in this hour session. It provides an opportunity to get your questions answered to see if it is the right fit for you. Family and friends are encouraged to accompany you. When you’re ready to change it impacts those around you— positively. We are proud to offer Health & Nutrition Technology, as a viable, safe, rapid, and effective approach to a very difficult reality for much of our nation and fellow Hoosiers. A Healthy Colon Runs Itself

he colon needs to Tevacuation be lubricated for to take place.

Nancy Spahr, Founder

It must flush and process waste matter around the clock. Dedicated and routine morning intake of 12 – 20+ oz of high quality water is vital for proper colon/intestinal function. Fluids need to be ingested little by little around the clock, but morning intake

is critical. Without question caffeine is one of the worst substances you can ever put in your body. Caffeine is a diuretic, and diuretics divert water away from your colon causing your colon to paralyze. With caffeine present, your entire system crashes to rock solid standstill. Do not ever consume caffeine-bearing drinks. You cannot be at your healthiest. The results of a body deprived of water are

obvious: weakness, constipation, sluggish, fatigue, weight gain, increased blood pressure, heart attacks, immune system dysfunction, kidney disorders, diabetes, aches/pains, bad moods, poor skin, poor sleep, insomnia, allergies and more. Some people wait until their first elimination of the day before they eat anything solid. This is a signal that your digestive tract has caught up on its work. Ideally you should never use something to cause the elimination, as you are masking the problem, and not solving it. This does not mean that there is no application for a good colon formula or herb, but chronic use is never recommended. Which water? Research has shown that ionized water increases the hydration ability 6 times and raises the body’s overall pH while encouraging the elimination process. Recapping, the colon knows when it is ready to start the day and will signal you via elimination. Drink plenty of alkaline, ionized water to enhance this process.

To learn more about improving your digestive and colon health call Cleansing Waters - a Colon Hydrotherapy and Body Ecology Center dedicated to empowering the individual in reclaiming health and wellness in a natural and sensible manner. 317-259-0796. 28

YOUR PERSONAL TRUTH What is your personal truth? Each person has a belief system that contributes to their sense of self. Your personal truth helps to define who you are and what you can accomplish in your life. Your personal truths are positive and negative messages that contribute to how you feel about yourself. They become a life force that feeds your sense of self. Your personal truth dictates what you can accomplish in this world. It either encourages you to strive for your best or it limits your capabilities. Personal truths are life fulfilling. Can you identify some of the thoughts that resonate inside of you? They may be positive thoughts: • • • • • • • • •

I can make difference in this world I deserve good things in life I am powerful I was born for greatness I can accomplish anything People like me I am fun to be around I am smart I am creative

Some personal truths may be negative: • • • • • • • • • •

I’m not college material I deserve what I get I’m too stupid to go anywhere No one will ever love me I will never be married I don’t count I can’t lose weight I’m not pretty enough I’m not smart enough I’m not rich enough

When people are happy and feel selfactualized, they believe in themselves and their capabilities. They see a problem, a situation, or a project, and imagine themselves accomplishing it. Their personal truth is one of mastery. It feeds into their “possibility thinking.” They believe that they can affect change. If you have personal truths that are selfdefeating, you will sell yourself short. If you don’t think you are deserving of finding Mr. Right, you will likely settle for a mediocre relationship that reinforces your negative self-worth. If you don’t see yourself as smart enough, you won’t ask for that job 34

promotion. If you ask and get turned down, it will reinforce that you didn’t deserve it anyway. Do you know some of your own personal Carol Juergensen Sheets truths? Write them out as it can be very illuminating and insightful to figure out what helps to guide you in this world. It also helps you to identify what is working for you and what’s working against you. You can’t change what you don’t acknowledge. The first step to selfimprovement is identifying the powerful belief system that contributes to your emotional foundation. Write out three positive truths and three negative personal truths. Honor the positives by recognizing how they have motivated and guided you. Look at the negative personal truths and ask what you can do to change them. Everyone has both negative and positive personal truths. People who are self confident have learned how to alter their negative personal truths into a healthier, more realistic assessment of their total self. The good news is that anyone can take their negative self talk and beliefs and learn to accept them in a gentler form. In next month's column, I will be sharing some of my negative personal truths with you so that you can see how to do the work. Although I have very good self esteem, it did not come with out a lot of work. So your assignment is to join me on this journey so that you will better understand how to apply this in your own life. Do the assignment while it is fresh in your mind and see you next month for some personal examples! Carol Juergensen Sheets LCSW PCC is a psychotherapist and personal life coach. She does motivational speaking and empowerment trainings locally and nationally. To find out more about her services--contact her at www.carolthecoach.com or call her at 317 218-3479. Bio-Identical Hormone Pellets

for Men and Women

WHAT ARE BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONES? Bio-identical hormones are derived from plants, such as the Mexican wild yam. Hormones made from yams include estrogen, testosterone, and progesteronewhich are just like the hormones you produced during your reproductive years. HOW DOES THAT CONCERN ME? Men and women gradually produce less hormones starting around 35-50 years old. Reduced estrogen symptoms for women may include hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness, forgetfulness and osteoporosis. For both men and women, reduced testosterone may cause a lessened interest in sexual relations, inability to achieve satisfactory orgasms, chronic fatigue and osteoporosis. HOW DO I GET MY HORMONES BACK TO THE LEVELS WHERE I FELT GOOD IN MY 30’s? Gynecologist Dr. David McLaughlin and his Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Kristi Marcella, replace estrogen & testosterone in women, and only testosterone in men. The

goal is to achieve youthful levels by inserting the appropriate pellets under the skin, using local anesthesia, in our office. HOW DO WE KNOW WHAT AMOUNT IS RIGHT FOR ME? Hormone levels are measured initially, then after the pellet insertions, with the goal to clinically achieve the optimal levels and desired results. Wellness is promoted with appropriate monitoring to reduce untoward side effects and maximize the mild euphoria many patients experience using pellet hormone replacement therapy. HOW DO I FIND OUT IF ESTROGEN &/or TESTOSTERONE PELLETS ARE RIGHT FOR ME? To determine if you are an appropriate candidate for pellet hormone replacement, please call Dr. McLaughlin’s office, TODAY, by dialing 855.433.6827. START TO LIVE BETTER WITH PELLET HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY! (Free consultations are available to prospective new patients)
