The HCG Story... The story of HCG began in the Fifties when, after having done research on weight loss for 40 years and research on HCG specifically for twenty years, Dr. Simeons reported that patients taking small amounts of HCG, in conjunction with a very low calorie diet, could lose weight safely and quickly, without exercise, hunger, irritability, muscle injury or weakness. But all HCG is not created equal. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of confusion created by products being sold without guidance that call themselves “HCG” but do not contain any in their ingredient list. HCG is one of 67 hormones naturally produced in the human body, so if a product states that it is hormone free; it is not HCG. Dr. Simeons’ diet protocol ought not to be followed without real HCG. The Pounds and Inches Away program starts with pharmaceutical HCG. HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is not a growth or sex hormone; it does not feminize men or masculinize women. It is not an appetite suppressant, stimulant or vitamin supplement. Nor does HCG produce weight loss by itself. However, in concert with a very specific balanced diet, and our help in avoiding unexpected environmental or behavioral deviations, HCG will allow the body to naturally pull the nutrients and calories needed from stored fat reserves into the blood stream at the rate of 1500 to 4000 calories per day. We are sure that those who follow our protocol WILL lose 20-30 pounds in 40 days. These fantastic results ARE typical with our full service packages. The Pounds and Inches Away program is not your run of the mill “eat less and exercise more” diet for a slow loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week that seems to take the rest of your life. Our protocol tricks Mother Nature a little, maybe, however only natural processes are at work. Per Dr. Simeons, it is safe and so very effective.

Today an increasing number of dieters, many of whom had given up hope in their journey to lose weight, are turning to the Pounds and Inches Away Program to permanently lose unwanted weight. We are expert consultants, here to guide your weight loss experience from beginning to thin! At Pounds and Inches Away, we are also excited to be able to offer Whole Body Vibration technology by Advanced Healthworks to help people reach their goals. Ten minutes on our “Jiggy” machine produces benefits comparable to those gained in a one-hour workout without the sweat and effort of traditional exercise. More than 700 medical studies have been published about the health benefits of Whole Body Vibration. These benefits include improved circulation, increased muscle strength and flexibility, better core conditioning, improved range of motion, enhanced metabolism, increased bone density, and more. The Whole Body Vibration technology has also been used to improve problems with osteoporosis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, incontinence, arthritis, Parkinson’s’ disease and other conditions. We encourage the use of these machines for their wonderful skin tightening effects. We are excited to announce the opening of our Pounds and Inches Away Weight Loss Salon in Indianapolis near Castleton Square Mall. We are new to this area and are offering the products and support needed for success on the revolutionary HCG diet protocol developed by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons. Patients Save up to 75% for MRI Services By Comparison Shopping More so now than ever, patients are being prompted to become more informed consumers, carefully comparison-price shopping for their medical needs without sacrificing quality of care. Many people and employers would be surprised to learn how much they could save if they shopped around for medical imaging services, such as an MRI scan. An analysis of the Greater Indianapolis market shows that an MRI exam at an area hospital can cost up to 75% more than at a non-hospital affiliated or independent imaging facility. ProScan Imaging is a non-hospital affiliated network offering three imaging centers in the Indianapolis area located in Avon, Carmel, and Fishers. Stephen Pomeranz, M.D., CEO and Medical Director at ProScan, explains that more patients are asking about costs. “Today’s patients are more informed,” he explains. “They want to know how they can save healthcare dollars. But more important, they want quality care.” 8

Patients are increasingly asked to play a role in lowering their healthcare costs; however, selecting the best diagnostic imaging provider can be difficult. Health insurers can often work with patients to help them find quality imaging services at lower prices. Patients can also directly contact hospitals and independent centers or visit providers’ websites for pricing details and quotes for particular exams. “ProScan offers a high quality, low cost alternative,” comments Mark Grossman, ProScan’s Chief Operating Officer. Compared to a hospital-based facility, ProScan’s services can cost 50% to 80% less while still providing state-of-art technology, world-renowned medical expertise, and excellent customer service. “It comes down to patients realizing that it’s their money and their choice where they receive imaging services.” For more information about your medical imaging options, visit www.proscan.com/indy or call 317-874-0000.

10 Steps to Making Your Passion Your Business A study of 15 women who left positions at Fortune 500 companies to go into business for themselves found that it was not status or money that motivated them in their daily work. It was getting zest and energy from the work they did, the reward of satisfying work and the opportunity to work collaboratively. In the year 2000, 28% of the businesses were independently owned and by the year 2010 this percentage will increase to 41% (Women in Business Research Statistics). Whether you are already in business for yourself or are considering joining the ranks of the thousands of women who are finding a way to make their passion their business the ten steps below can get you on your way. 1. Take Stock: Ask yourself the questions and listen for the answers. What activities give you that zest and energy? How can you turn those into a business? 2. Weigh Your Options: What’s the fit? From offering your services as a contract employee, hanging out your own shingle, purchasing an existing business or a franchise…the opportunities are available on many levels. Find what suits you. 3. Research the Need: Investigate trends; find out what is needed and what people are willing to pay for it. 4. Make Your Plan: “A goal without a time frame is just a dream” so a written business plan with time frames is critical to your success. It should include your vision statement and benchmarks to measure your achievements.

6. Line Out Your $$$: Let’s face it, you will need funds to get started. There are options out there from bank loans to family investors. Learn what they are and what works for you. 7. Find a Mentor: People you admire who are successful are a great resource. Don’t overlook group mentoring as a great way to gain knowledge and resources from other entrepreneurs. 8. Act on Your Plan: Take that first step. It’s ok if it’s a baby step. “If you want to walk on water you’ve got to get out of the boat.” 9. Have the Courage to Change Directions: Be in tune to what’s working and what’s not. Be flexible. 10. R E T It: This is my own personal mantra: I learned it in grad school. The letters stand for Rational Emotive Therapy and the bottom line is this: what’s the worst that can happen? If you can handle that: Go for it! Do you have what it takes to be in business for yourself? Linda Rendleman, M.S. is President of Business Women Connect and Co-Founder of the Women Like Us Foundation. She has a degree in Public Speaking and a Masters degree in Counseling. Linda is available to speak on this and other topics. www.businesswomenconnect.com linda@businesswomenconnect.com www.lindarendleman.com or call 317-694-3523

Raising Paige

I

remember as if it were I could do for her. Paige does yesterday. My beautiful not remember a time when daughter, Paige, was just five she did not have a tutor for years old. As I knelt beside the her school work. As we were head of her bed that night, as told that she would never be I did every night to talk and to able to do very well in school, pray with her before she went I tried to focus her attention to sleep, I pushed her soft, on dance, something at which blond hair out of her face, and she did excel. Paige did not she said to me, “Mommy, I am grow up like other children, as a dinglebrain.” I said, “Oh no, she had to focus on her school Sweetpea, you are so very smart.” work when she got home in She went on to tell me that all order to complete it. Our lives the children in her kindergarten during the school week were class were reading but she could very regimented in order to Paige not read. This did not come as a get the homework done. surprise to me, although the words still sting as I I arranged a move to the Geist area of town write this story. Prior to this and twice a month, because I had read that the Amy Beverland Grade I would work in her classroom at the school for School was an excellent and nationally-honored gifted and talented children (which is where school. Paige survived there educationally, but we had been told Paige belonged). I started in middle school, her class was sent by bus to noticing that all of the children were learning a Middle School, which was one of the most to read, but Paige could not read one word. I challenging times for her educationally. It had talked to her kindergarten teacher also to tell her of my concerns. Her teacher told me was at this point that I called for an all teacher that she also had noticed something unusual. meeting with Paige, her dad and me. It was at She said that when she, the teacher, read a story this meeting that a statement was made that to the class out loud, Paige would raise her hand shaped Paige’s history. We were told that we and comment on the story and that Paige’s should not ever hope that Paige would go to comments elevated the discussion among the college. Even now, as I think about it, it causes children because she was so smart. The teacher the fine hair on my neck to stand on edge. I sat said it did not correlate with the fact that Paige up straight in my chair and said, “Oh yes, she could not read when the children were reading WILL go to college if she wants to go.” Paige, on their own. Then the teacher mentioned a mimicking me, sat up straight in her chair and word that soon came to shape both Paige’s and said, “Yes, I will go to college.” my life for all the years to come. The teacher Here is where the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana said it was quite possible that Paige was severely (“DII”) enters the scene. We left that meeting, dyslexic (which means quite literally “dys” = and I called DII to arrange for as many tutoring difficulty, and “lexic” = reading). sessions we could get each week. Paige and We learned that the actual testing for this I went every day after school and work to a specific learning disability (SLD) did not come library on the other side of town for her tutoring until a child starts first grade. The work and worked in the cubicle right next to news was painful, but I knew that I could not where she was meeting with the DII tutor. that she still remembers and uses many of the learning aids that her DII tutors taught her. We will forever be grateful to the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana for the way that they came alongside Paige in her journey of learning.

Marti and Paige Paige’s story does not end there. She did get to attend Cathedral High School (by some miracle), which rightly boasts that it has the top Language Support Program in the state. Paige graduated in the top 10% of her high school class and went on to Taylor University, where she graduated with honors. As if that were not extraordinary enough, Paige applied to attend the top graduate school in the nation in education at Vanderbilt University. It was very overwhelming for her, but she showed her characteristic courage and tenacity there. After the first two months, without any solicitation on her part, she was contacted by the head of the School of Education and awarded a full scholarship for her graduate studies. They said that they had been observing her and were amazed at her incredible

work ethic and ability, despite her disability. Today, Paige is a Special Education Teacher of 5th and 6th graders in Hamilton County, where she is able to help so many students. (They can never say to her that she does not understand where they are coming from.) Her compassion and example have helped to change lives. As the parent of a child with dyslexia, I will never say it has been easy. I am grateful for the divine guidance, for which I prayed every day. It was only after Paige had entered her graduate studies at Vanderbilt University and she asked me to read one of their textbooks (The Secret Life of the Dyslexic Child by Dr. Robert Frank) that I realized that somehow, someway, with God’s grace, I had made the right choices in raising her. Perhaps it was because I loved her so much, but I have a feeling that the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana deserves a lot of credit also.

By: Marti Starkey In June, all proceeds from the Dream Home will be given to the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana to help make similar children’s dreams come true by giving them the gift of reading.

Are you in control of your Financial Destiny? Do you have a Debt-Free Date?

S

o many women I meet are sick and tired of being sick and tired. They are tired of every decision they make being dictated by time and money…usually the lack of both. They have been affected by the economy by it downsizing their income, savings or retirement. So how do they even think about financial freedom...where do they begin? And what does financial freedom really mean? To create true financial freedom, you have to be free from debt…all debt...all credit card debt, all consumer debt and yes, no mortgages. The company we partner with is now being known as “the get-out-of-debt company”. You know, somewhere along the way the American Dream has shifted from working hard and creating financial security to overspending and creating massive amounts of debt. Dave Ramsey writes in his book, The Total Money Makeover, “if you live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.” According to Ramsey, “there are only two ways to become financially stable: earn more or spend less.” Imagine what can happen when you do both. However, most people don’t have the means to earn more. Our company provides the

22

vehicle. We have a proven formula that works. Without debt you can save more for retirement, pay cash for the family extras, and use your money to make a difference for others. Without debt, you can sleep better, worry less and have greater hope for your future. When you achieve total financial freedom, you can live the lifestyle you envisioned for you and your family. Financial experts such as Ramsey, Suze Orman, David Bach, and Jean Chatzy can provide the tools and teach you how to manage your money resulting in spending less. Women Changing Lives and our partner company can help you add to your income and achieve your dream of financial freedom much sooner than you expect. Call Karen today for your appointment to learn how to supplement or replace your income and create the freedom to enjoy life on your own terms. Karen Caprino-Burg is the founder of Women Changing Lives and can be reached at 317-828-3061, 888-802-4321 or Karen@ WomenChangingLives.net.

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Recurrent pregnancy loss is defined as two or more pregnancy losses at any stage of pregnancy. Recurrent miscarriage—a type of recurrent pregnancy loss—occurs when three or more miscarriages in a row happen. What are the causes of Pregnancy Loss? Dr. McLaughlin has found that the following factors are causes for miscarriage: Hormonal, such as polycystic ovaries, or insufficient amounts of the hormones estrogen and/or progesterone Anatomical, such as a septate uterus, fibroids, or uterine polyps Autoimmune, such as antiphospholipid antibodies, anticardiolipin antibodies, lupus anticoagulant antibodies, or hypothyroidism Thrombophilias, where the body tends to form blood clots too easily Genetic, where a structural change in a chromosome in one of the partners is passed on to the pregnancy

Depending on a couple’s history, some or all of these factors may be evaluated by Dr. McLaughlin. Some couples don’t have any trouble getting pregnant, but then miscarry before 8 weeks. Why? Further testing is needed to rule out various problems. However, the husband may have a high percentage of fragmented DNA in his sperm. The egg will accept the damaged sperm, but the embryo will cease to divide, eventually resulting in a miscarriage. Testing can determine if this is a possible cause for the miscarriages. Some couples don’t have any difficulty getting pregnant, but then continue to miscarry. They have been advised to “keep trying.” Is this a wise course of action? We advise all our patients experiencing recurrent miscarriage to prevent conception until they have been fully evaluated and diagnosed appropriately. By continuing the miscarriage cycle, you can actually create a worse situation requiring more aggressive therapy.

Take Your Life to the Next Level One of the most frequent questions I get as a personal life coach is “Why can’t I take my life to the next level of greatness?” My clients will explain that they believe in themselves and their abilities but they seem stuck in a holding pattern and they are not sure what is really holding them back. Does this sound familiar to you? Do you want to achieve something in your life but you don’t know why you aren’t doing the things you need to do to make it happen. Do you really want something in your life but you haven’t found the formula to get to your goal? In my experience, my client needs to take what I call “massive action” to make that goal happen. But to do that....it requires that my client look at her limiting beliefs. If this sounds like you than I guarantee that there are limiting beliefs that are holding you back from taking your life to the next level. And once you break the “limiting beliefs” barriers you can take massive action and make your life happen. Limiting beliefs typically stem from your childhood or life experiences. If you think about the negative things you may say to yourself when faced with a goal it may look something like the following: • I don’t have enough time to set up regular meetings. • I don’t have enough energy to accomplish that goal. • I don’t have enough contacts to make that happen. • I don’t have enough willpower to lose the 30 pounds. • I don’t have enough self discipline to work out regularly. • I don’t have enough expertise to become a manager. • I am not pretty enough--smart enough--rich enough--connected enough....you get the impact of this scarcity model. When this occurs I will typically challenge my client to look at her limiting beliefs and honestly write out what she might be saying to herself unconsciously. When a client gets in touch with her negative self talk, it can help us to identify what she needs to work through 28

the negativity. So think about what goals you are wanting in your life that you continue to struggle with and ask yourself what limiting beliefs may be holding you back. Find a quiet spot and ask the question Carol Juergensen Sheets and wait to hear what thoughts come into your mind. Write the limiting beliefs down and then get with your boss, a colleague, a best friend, or a coach and brainstorm what you might say to yourself to retrain your brain to think to fuel positive thoughts as opposed to negative beliefs. Frequently I ask my clients to write statements that are the opposite of those limiting beliefs. Those statements might look like: • I know I can call 3 people per day and request time to discuss my agenda. • I can go to bed 30 minutes earlier which can create more energy in my work week. • I can ask my friends and colleagues for some references to create more contacts. • I will work on losing 2 lbs per week to get to that 30 lb goal. • I will walk around the block every morning once the kids have left for school to get that exercise in. When you face your negative beliefs, create affirmations that are possible, take massive action towards your goals ... it generates more energy to move beyond limiting beliefs. You CAN accomplish your goals but it takes redirecting your energy towards possibility thinking which means eliminating limiting beliefs! Carol Juergensen Sheets LCSW PCC is a psychotherapist and personal life coach. She does motivational speaking and empowerment trainings locally and nationally.
