Crafting Elegance: The Upcoming Showcase of Master Persian Rug Designer and Collector, Omid Ghibi

In the world of luxury Persian rugs, one name stands out above the rest—Omid Ghibi. A master Persian Rug Designer and Collector with over 35 years of experience, Omid has dedicated his life to preserving and showcasing Iran’s rich cultural heritage. He views his creations as bridges between the past and the present, between Iran and the world, inviting all who encounter his work to embark on a journey through time and space. His upcoming showcase promises to be a celebration of elegance, craftsmanship, and artistry like no other.

A LEGACY WOVEN THROUGH TIME:

OMID GHIBI'S JOURNEY

Omid Ghibi is not just a master Persian Rug Designer; he is a passionate collector of the finest antiques and rare rugs, a

distinguished artist at the Los Angeles Art Fair, and a renowned figure in the art of design and restoration of antique Persian rugs. His expertise spans decades, with a profound focus on Persian miniature and illuminated Qur’an manuscripts. Omid's collections, ranging from the Qajar era to the Safavid era, are a testament to his deep appreciation for Persian history. Many of his rugs are housed in the world’s most prestigious museums, showcasing pieces so rare that some are unique, with any existing counterparts being preserved in museum collections He has a few hundred pieces of intangible rugs that only one in the world has, and if there is another example, it will be in the world’s museums. He has collected them over eighteen years, ranging from the Safavid era to the end of the Reza Shah Pahlavi era.

Omid's path in the world of Persian rug making is intricately woven with threads of heritage and passion. His formative years were steeped in the rich traditions of rug weaving, an art form that has been a cornerstone of Persian culture for centuries. Surrounded by family members involved in rug making, Omid was truly born into the craft. Initially pursuing studies in pharmacology after high school, he soon realized his true calling lay in art. A year after enrolling in university, Omid made the pivotal decision to return home and embrace his artistic roots.

Under the tutelage of world-renowned masters, Omid swiftly honed his skills, progressing from a curious apprentice to a skilled Persian Rug Designer and Collector. With every meticulous knot he tied, he enhanced his expertise in repair, weaving, dyeing, and shaving, perfecting his craft to a level of mastery. Through his skilled craftsmanship, Omid not only conserves the heritage of Persian rug making but also advances it by infusing classic designs with innovative ideas. His journey is not just about creating rugs; it's about keeping the essence of Persian culture alive and vibrant for the world to see and appreciate.

Omid’s career advanced significantly, leading to an invitation to join the board of directors for the Handmade Persian Rug Union. He has since exhibited his work and personal collection of antique rugs around the world, with shows in both Iran and Japan. Eventually, he established his own gallery in Tokyo, Japan, where he practiced his craft for many years before moving to the United States to expand on sharing his work, as demonstrated by his upcoming event.

INTERNATIONAL INFLUENCE AND EXPANSION

A notable milestone in Omid's career was the invitation from the Museum of Persian rug to work on establishing a unique collection in Iran as a public exhibition. This exhibition was warmly welcomed by masters of Persian rugs and artists alike, further cementing Omid’s reputation as a guardian of Persian cultural heritage. The value of Omid's collection of rugs reaches several million dollars, as estimated by experts. He is passionate about mentoring young artists, aiming to inspire the next generation to preserve and innovate within this ancient art form.

Omid Ghibi began learning the art of rug designing at a young age. From dyeing to coloring, he developed his skills over the years, gradually becoming a master in the field of rug trade. He began collaborating with groups in Europe, and after a few years, moved to Japan to start his independent journey. Omid is a member of the board of directors of the Persian Rug Association in Japan and is one of the most influential rug traders in Japan, having expanded his influence to numerous exhibitions.

His work is characterized by the blending of traditional Persian techniques with modern innovations. Omid’s approach in-

volves using traditional materials such as silk, wool, and natural dyes while incorporating contemporary designs and motifs. This fusion results in unique pieces that maintain the integrity of Persian art while appealing to modern sensibilities. Each rug is a testament to his commitment to quality and authenticity, often requiring months or even years to complete.

TREASURES OF THE PAST: ICONIC RUGS IN OMID'S COLLECTION

Among Omid’s most prized possessions is the Poulenc Rug, a 450-year-old masterpiece dating back to the Safavid period. This rug is one of the group of rugs created during the Safavid era, famed for its intricate designs an exceptional craftsmanship. The Poulenc rug, also known as the Suzan-e Shir or Lion Needle, is celebrated for two main reasons: its service and quality.

Polonaise rug, or Lion Needle, is woven with silk threads that are coated with silver and gold, known as ‘Golabatoon.’ The production and creation of these threads require high precision and delicacy to be able to wrap a strand of silver and gold around the silk thread, which itself is very delicate,” Omid explains. The weaving of these rugs demands high experience and skill, as the elasticity of the threads is less compared to silk thread due to the use of metal.

This rug is woven with utmost precision and delicacy and features a very subtle color combination formed with only seven hues. The colors are used in such a way that the golden color stands out more than the others. Recently, Christie’s auction in London put two expensive Polonaise or Lion Needle rugs from Iran up for sale. These two Polonaise silk-woven rugs from Isfahan, woven in the seventeenth century, were sold at Christie’s in London. One rug, measuring 205 by 141 centimeters, sold for £3,895,000, and the other Polonaise gold-woven silk rug from the Safavid era, also from seventeenth-century Isfahan, measuring 201 by 145 centimeters, was sold on May 2, 2019. Another remarkable piece in Omid’s collection is a rug woven in Isfahan, approximately 140 years old. This rug belongs to the category of pictorial rugs, with its design featuring a ‘Mihrabi’ motif that creates a frame-like effect for the main image. The central image of the rug depicts Nader Shah Afshar, clad in

jewel-adorned clothing and a jeweled sword, closely resembling the attire of the Qajar era. The borders of the rug narrate romantic and legendary tales like those of Layla and Majnun, Shirin and Farhad, and Khosrow and Shirin, weaving a narrative from the beginning to the end of these famous stories.

CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE OF RUGS

Persian rugs are not just decorative items; they are woven stories that capture historical events, legends, and cultural milestones. Omid’s collection serves as a living museum of Persian history, with each piece telling a story of its own. This deep cultural significance is why Persian rugs have remained treasured around the world, offering more than just beauty but also a glimpse into a rich and storied past.

BRIDGING CULTURES:

MARY GARI'S STORY

Omid Ghibi was looking for someone to showcase one of his unique works of art, and this search led him to Mary Gari through her mentor, Mr. Jimmy Sedghi. Mr. Sedghi is a well-known figure in the Persian American community and is very

famous in Beverly Hills. His deep connections within the cultural and artistic circles of the city enabled him to introduce Omid Ghibi to this vibrant community.

Mary Gari’s story is a tapestry woven with resilience, ambition, and a touch of magic. In 2014, she arrived in the United States to pursue a Master of Multimedia in California. As an immigrant, she faced numerous ups and downs over her ten years in the country, with each hurdle serving as a testament to her unwavering spirit. Yet, amidst the challenges, a childhood dream flickered—to represent her heritage on a global stage.

In 2023, that dream began to materialize when Mary entered the Miss Asia USA beauty pageant. With the guidance and mentoring of Mr. Jimmy Sedghi, Mary refined her presentation and amplified her cultural message. Mr. Sedghi's experience and connections provided Mary with invaluable support, helping her navigate the competitive world of beauty pageants and encouraging her to embrace her role as a cultural ambassador. Mary's dedication culminated in her winning the title of Miss Global Ambassador. But for Mary, this wasn't the finish line. It was a magnificent starting point. Now, crowned and empowered, she carries the torch of unity. As a Persian artist, model and businesswoman, Mary aspires to bridge cultures, promoting kindness, humanity, and the transformative power of art. Her voice resonates with a powerful message:

unity is not just a dream; it's a masterpiece waiting to be unveiled.

Through Mr. Sedghi, Omid and Mary met, discovering a shared passion for showcasing Persian art and culture. Inspired by Omid’s dedication to preserving Persian heritage, Mary decided to become a model to represent his ghalamkari dresses, beautifully handcrafted garments that embody the elegance and tradition of Persian craftsmanship. This collaboration is not just about fashion; it is about highlighting the artistic richness of Iran and fostering cultural exchange.

Mr. Sedghi has also taken on the role of director for Omid's upcoming event on September 8th at the Gallery of the City of Beverly Hills. This event is set to be a grand showcase of Omid's exquisite rugs and ghalamkari designs, with Mary playing a pivotal role in bringing these works to life on the runway.

Maryam said: "Wearing this beautiful and meaningful Persian dress was an

honor. Knowing the magic that went into its creation, the work of a true Persian artist, fills me with a special kind of pride. It's more than just a garment; it's a representation of a rich artistic heritage, and I felt privileged to embody its beauty on the runway. His story is a vibrant reminder that with passion, perseverance, and a touch of magic, even the most fantastical dreams can be sculpted into reality."

(New York, NY, June 13, 2024) – Today, award-winning pianist ELEW has been announced as support to 17-time Grammy Award winning artist STING on the North American leg of his acclaimed “STING 3.0" Tour, presented by Cherrytree Music Company and Live Nation.

A native of Camden, New Jersey, Eric Lewis began his musical studies at 2 years old and would ultimately receive the Rodger’s and Hammerstein full merit scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music. A Dean’s List student, upon graduation, he toured the world, recorded and performed with Wynton Marsalis & the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Elvin Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Roy Hargrove, and John Hendricks among others. In 1999, Eric won the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, at the time, the most coveted prize in all of Jazz.

A decade into his career, he reemerged as ELEW and began fusing his piano techniques with rock guitar-based ideas and experimental prepared piano methods, generating a powerful crossover brand he coined “Rockjazz”. Over the course of multiple award winning, critically acclaimed albums, ELEW has re-imagined songs by The Killers, Nirvana, Coldplay and Michael Jackson to name a few. Inspired by the European masters of Baroque Counterpoint, ELEW has innovated the technique

of simultaneously executing two independent melodies which precisely detail harmonic forms bursting with idiomatic verisimilitude and wide-ranging historical references while flawlessly maintaining the idiosyncratic Afrocentric timing at the core of Jazz improvisation. He has named this technique Counterbop.

His album Cubism - ELEW plays Rosenwinkel, a solo piano exploration of contemporary jazz legend Kurt Rosenwinkel provides perspective an insight into the nature of what Counterbop is and how it may be implemented.

In addition to piano performance, appearing in and scoring for film, ELEW is a prominent international DJ. He has created disco infernos for multiple events such as The World Economic Forum, TED, Art Basel, A-list Oscar parties, the Monte-Carlo Gala, the Cannes Film Festival and multiple celebrity birthdays and weddings. In some cases, ELEW places the turntables within the piano, seamlessly executing transitions and improvisations all while generating a pleasing frenzy on the dance floor. This has led to him creating yet another brilliant innovation he calls

Piano Turntablism. He literally plays two different yet recognizable songs simultaneously as a Dj would but on the Piano. All while maintaining the type of euphoric atmosphere one would experience at an over-the-top Las Vegas mega club or an epic music festival. ELEW is a genuine master of the piano and artistic genius.

Last month, “STING 3.0” kicked off in Europe with the 17-time Grammy Award winning icon performing his most electrifying hits joined by virtuoso guitarist and longtime collaborator, Dominic Miller, and dynamic drummer Chris Maas (Mumford & Sons, Maggie Rogers), from his timeless discography. Following the tour launch, NME reported “Sting begins 2024 tour with Police hits and deep cuts,” while Consequence praised the performance describing the trio as “sounding in fine form, filling out the songs’ arrangements with impressive umph. Unsurprisingly, Stings’ bass was the star of the show, as he was given the sonic room to provide counter melodies and booming basslines with impact.”

The North American leg of "STING 3.0" Tour kicks off at the Fillmore in Detroit, MI

on September 17th followed by a special series of shows with multiple-night stints in some of the most legendary theatres across North America.

Known for his groundbreaking work as a solo artist and as the frontman and songwriter in the seminal group The Police, Sting, managed by Martin Kierszenbaum/Cherrytree Music Company, has consistently pushed the boundaries of musical innovation throughout his illustrious career. Beat The Dog Days of Summer Doom Scrolling... With Tech Startup's New App!

The dog days of summer are here and the temperature isn’t the only thing that’s on the rise. The amount of content and streaming services viewers have to choose from continues to grow. It can often lead to a dreadful dilemma aptly titled by one tech startup as “Doom Scrolling”. That’s the awful time where you’ll find yourself flipping through one streaming platform to the next in a desperate attempt to navigate your way to something you’d like to watch. A new

app developed recently seeks to rescue audiences from this fate and save us all time and frustration.

Gatsby Frimpong is the co-founder and CEO of Gatsby TV, the tech company and app offering a fast and fun way to discover television shows and movies. The platform brings all your streaming services into one place where they can be easily searched with detailed info including ratings from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. It can quickly tell you where to

rent, stream, or buy your favorite titles.. According to their user surveys, most people are spending up to 30 minutes or more doing this “Doom Scrolling” trying to find something to watch.

The Gatsby TV app is also seamlessly bridging the gap between our screens and social lives. Launched just last year and with over 100,0000 users, the application lets you see what individuals you follow have watched recently and allows you to send recommendations of shows or

movies to friends. The company is taking those offline conversations we always have with each other about what we’re watching and bringing them together for you on any device.

Gatsby’s extensive experience before creating this startup and app includes engineering jobs at Apple, Microsoft, and Google.

He can provide brilliant insight on the state of streaming networks and:

• Eliminate the endless scrolling in order to find a show or movie you’d like

• Taking a look at the app and ways it can change where we find what to watch

• The issues with user data from Netflix, etc. for suggesting your next series

• Using algorithms based around recommendations from friends and family

• Where to stream for free without renting or a subscription, saving money

• Reviewing new shows and seasons being released for Summer 2024

Where luxury meets passion for the planet, where every woman is treated like royalty, and where every outfit is a celebration of femininity. Indulge in the ultimate, uniquely luxurious experience—because you deserve nothing less.

Is fashion a passion for you?

Natalie Spivak: Fashion has always been a deep passion and a significant part of my life since childhood. I fell in love with it when I was just five years old. Even at that young age, I was fascinated by the details of clothing and the art of color matching. My mother was an elegant fashion icon, and I admired every outfit she wore. She made beautiful gowns herself and taught me the craft. For her, fashion was both a hobby and a lifestyle. As a successful leader in the economic world, she ran a big luxury hotel while always looking beautiful and stylish, both in public and at home. I never saw her wearing anything old, unfashionable, or unattractive. Her style was always very feminine and elegant. I inherited this passion for fashion from my mother, and it has stayed with me throughout all my life.

When did you create your first outfit?

Natalie: When I was around five years old, I received a kids sewing machine as a gift. Naturally, my first creations were gowns for my Barbies, as well as bedsheets, covers and pillows for them. Even then, I somehow understood the importance of bedtime comfort, and I wanted my Barbies to sleep soundly in beautiful nightwear. So, from an early age, I was already thinking about style and comfort, even for my dolls.

How did you get started? How did you become a designer?

Natalie: It was destiny, I suppose—I never planned it. I started modeling when I was 14 years old, and with each photoshoot and every Fashion Week in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, I found myself admiring the talented designers I walked for. I always thought fashion was a complex and capricious industry, and as a model, I saw a different side of it. People only see the final product—the fashion shows and collections in stores—but behind the scenes, it requires an immense amount of work, time, and the teamwork of many professionals before the public sees a beautiful fashion show or a new collection in shops.

Over the years, I’ve created many of my own outfits and always loved dressing oth-

ers. In addition to designing my own garments, I was the one who did the shopping for my entire family, since neither my dad nor my brother enjoyed the process. But I loved it, and I always put together stylish looks for them. It’s something I’ve done my whole life.

As a model for years, I had the privilege of attending iconic red carpets at the Cannes, Venice, Berlin, and Zurich Film Festivals. After one Cannes Film Festival, I was invited to an event where a stranger passed by me, handed me a white ladie’s jacket, and simply said, “This is for you.” Then he left. I had never seen this person before or since. I don’t even know his name. Standing there at luxury event in Monaco, surrounded by other guests, I couldn’t stop thinking: Why did I get this jacket? What should I do with it? At first, I considered throwing it away. But I believe everything happens in life for a reason, so I decided to appreciate what the Universe had given me.

I took the jacket home, washed it, and hung it in my wardrobe. Every time I looked at it, I wondered why I had received it. I had never worn anything like it before. Then, during Venice Film Festival, when I had two planned red carpet appearances, my designer dresses didn’t arrive on time, I was suddenly left without dresses. I was quite shocked by the situation. That’s when I remembered the white jacket and decided to paint it. I created my first red carpet outfit, “Red Carpet Star.”

The second outfit I created for Venice Film Festival attracted all the media attention. “Look here, look here!” is what I heard nonstop from all cameras on the red carpet. I had never experienced such success before, even though I had always worn luxurious, very expensive, and exclusive gowns. I received numerous compliments and caught the eye of both print and TV media, especially in Venice, Italy, where I believe people have one of the best taste. This reassured me that I had done something right.

I tested my next outfit at World Economic Forum in Davos, creating a jacket with a special meaning tailored for the top business world. I find it fun to create unique

slogans that match the event or the personality. So, I painted on my jacket: “Top men rule the world, blondes rule the top.” This jacket also met with success in the serious business world. People came up with compliments and advices, encouraging me to continue and offering insights on how to navigate the business world. I felt I’m on a right path as so many intelligent, successful billionaires liked my designs and voluntarily offered their support and advice.

I experienced similar success at Snow Polo in St. Moritz, Berlin, Cannes, and Zurich Film Festivals. I even received compliments from the producer of Met Gala. All of this encouragement has inspired me to continue my Queenissima journey.

How do you create your outfits?

Natalia: It comes from within—you can’t predict it or control it. As a model, I understand how crucial it is to have comfortable shoes that are also healthy for your feet and don’t cause damage. That’s why every pair of shoes I create is designed with comfort and foot health in mind.

I approach each outfit as a thrilling exploration—not just of color, texture, and design, but of the story it tells and the mood it sets. Queenissima is a vibrant expression of self and creativity. It goes beyond simply clothing the body; it’s an art form that allows individuals to convey their identity, mood, and unique personal style.

What does “Queenissima” mean?

Natalie: This word doesn’t exist in any dictionary—it’s my own creation, born during my time in London. I coined it over 12 years ago, and my friends began calling me by this name. Also it was my modeling name for years. Since early 2019, I’ve been using it widely on Instagram and other social media platforms. Over the years, many magazines and billboards have featured this name.

You know, I never intended for people just to wear my name as is customary in brands. I want a completely different message to share with the world. Through the name “Queenissima,” I want to inspire pride,

confidence, respect, and love. I want each of you to feel like a Queenissima when you wear it. Yes, you are Queenissima. I believe every one of you deserves to be treated like a queen. I want you to feel unique, irreplaceable, beautiful, sexy, feminine, and to enjoy special attention and moments. Life bellissima if you are Queenissima.

Many people are shy about expressing their thoughts or messages to loved ones and the public. I can help make that easier for you. I love creating slogans that carry a personal message and bring joy at the same time.

Do you have any special fashion tips for our readers?

Natalie: Since I’ve always traveled a lot, every time I open my wardrobe to pack, it feels like every garment wants to come with me. I’d often end up with an uncomfortably large amount of luggage. My brother would always laugh and say, “Sister, if you need to move, you’ll need a truck, not a car.”

Over the years, I started enjoying the experience of carrying multiple styles and colors of scarves. With a scarf, you can easily transform a simple dress or a strong pair of

pants and jacket into a more feminine or flirtatious look, depending on where you’re going. I also always bring along a couple of sexy corsets for evening looks—perfect for when you need to dress to impress. Or, as I like to say, if he’s in a mess, put him in stress, or blow his mind and everything behind.

That’s why every Queenissima collection includes a variety of scarves and corsets. It’s how I’ve managed to downsize my luggage from 30 kg to carry-on size. Give it a try— you’ll love the vibe.

“Miss Europe Switzerland’s Queenissima of sustainability on a mission to save the Planet”, we saw so many headlines like this. How was it to represent Switzerland in Miss Europe?

Natalie: My home is in Zurich, Switzerland, and I have fallen in love with it. I feel a strong sense of social responsibility and gratitude toward Switzerland, and I have dedicated all my effort, soul and passion to representing the country, in the best possible way. I did it to express a deep appreciation for the incredible support given to Ukraine as I’m Ukrainian.

Additionally, I would like to raise awareness about the environmental impact of the fashion industry and encourage sustainable choices through pageant platform. I created few Queenissima outfits specially for Miss Europe to highlight these issues. I believe we all have a role in protecting our planet. Beyond the pageant, I plan to expand Queenissima and encourage more people to adopt sustainable fashion practices. I’m particularly passionate about environmental issues and sustainable fashion, which I believe deserve more attention.

What is the craziest thing you’d like to do in Hollywood?

Natalie: I would love to host a major Queenissima event with all the Hollywood stars to spread a message of sustainability in fashion and environmental support. I hope our iconic stars will join this effort. Each can contribute individually, but together, is possible amplify the impact and create a powerful force that will bring significant change.

An Iconic Malibu Home:

As Seen In 'The Canyons' Starring Lindsay Lohan

Nestled in the heart of one of the world’s most coveted coastal communities, one of Malibu’s longtime iconic homes is for sale at $7.25 million. Overlooking Carbon Mesa and the Pacific Ocean with postcard views of the ocean, Catalina and the Channel Islands, the modernist home is set on over 12 acres with a private mountain setting, not often found in Malibu.

Used as a primary film location in Paul Schrader's The Canyons starring Lindsay Lohan and seen on the cover of Vogue, the four-bedroom, four-bath home was designed by Vitus Mataré and inspired by the works of Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe with its timeless minimalist finishes. Built in 1978, before Malibu became the world-class enclave it is today, the home has been completely updated and looks showroom new. The property consists of four structures, including the 3,092-square-foot main house with a garage, pool house, detached carport, and a separate studio workspace. Upon entering the home, a multi-level atrium with vaulted-wood ceilings brings in ocean breezes throughout the home. Situated adjacent to the main residence is a detached studio perfect as a private workspace, gym or music studio with the added benefit of the inspiring ocean view. Floor-to-ceil-

ing windows frame the stunning vistas, flooding the space with natural light and creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience. The open-concept floor plan includes a grand living area, a gourmet kitchen, and a formal dining room, each thoughtfully designed to enhance the home's modern ambiance. There is plenty of parking with its two-car garage and workshop area, a three-car carport, a motorcourt that can accommodate seven vehicles, and a long, lushly landscaped driveway. The sale also includes a neighboring lot with almost 8 acres and access rights, providing access to PCH in just under 5 minutes.

For those who love to entertain, the property offers multiple outdoor spaces, including a built-in barbecue and a covered dining area, perfect for hosting gatherings against the backdrop of Malibu's stunning scenery. The meticulously landscaped gardens, including avocado, citrus, guava, and apricot trees, add to the home's allure, creating a serene environment for relaxation and enjoyment.

Known for its pristine beaches, renowned schools, upscale dining, and vibrant cultural scene, Malibu celebrity residents include Lady Gaga, Jack Nicholson, Paris Hilton and Jonah Hill. In addition to the fabulous beaches, things to do include

a day at The Getty Villa, the Malibu Pier, shopping at the Malibu Country Mart, and lunch at Nobu Malibu or The Old Place.

The home is listed with Russell Grether and Tony Mark from the Mark & Grether Group, Compass. Describing the home, Tony said, "It's extremely rare to find this level of privacy and acreage with ocean views that is still close to the Pacific Coast Highway. The property functions as a compound, offering countless spaces perfect for both unwinding and entertaining. The pool alone has to be one of Malibu's best."

And from Russell, "The setting of this home is incredibly unique, situated on its own promontory. The private road access makes all of Malibu easily accessible while having true panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding untouched mountains."
