We live in an era of few true heroes.

People seem to be chasing fame for the pleasures and status of celebrity. They appear to have little if any awareness of the responsibilities that accompany fame. In this article we pay tribute to one of our few living heroes. In 1976, Muhammad Ali was given a jeweled white robe from Elvis Presley with the words “The Peoples Champion” decorated across the back. It was a fitting title for a man who continously puts others first. Muhammad Ali was and still is referred to as “The People’s Champion”. His immeasurable accomplishments will live on in our hearts and last in our memories as a constant reminder of what we as human beings are capable of. In this article, we glimpse back at to time in history that will add a new dimension to the legendary legacy of a remarkable champion. “I grew up in a small house in Louisville, Kentucky; we didn’t have a lot of money but we were rich with God. In my heart I always felt that I had a special purpose. I started boxing when I was twelve after my bike was stolen. At first, all I wanted to do was find the person who took it and give him a good whooping. I began training in a local gym and eventually won my first amateur fight. That’s when my dreams started to grow. I’ve always wanted to be more than just a boxer. More than just the three time heavyweight champion of the world. I wanted to use my fame and this face that everyone knows so well, to help uplift and inspire people around the world. When I was young, I use to have this dream that I was running down the street and all of the people where standing around waving at me and cheering me on. Then I just took off flying. I dreamed that dream all the time.” - Muhammad Ali “Ali’s Fame is pure. Athletes today are known as much for their endorsement contracts and salaries as they are for their competitive performances. Fame now often stems from sports marketing rather than the other way around. Bo Jackson was briefly one of the most famous men in America because of his Nike shoe commercial. Michael Jordan and virtually all of his brethren derive a substantial portion of their visibility from commercial endeavors. Yet, as great an athlete as Michael Jordan is, he doesn’t have the ability to move people’s hearts and minds the way that Ali has moved them for decades. And what Muhammad Ali means to the world can be viewed from an ever deepening perspective today.” - Thomas Hauser, “The Lost Legacy of Muhammad Ali” The Looking Glass- “Poor kid from Louisville, Kentucky, at the White House, talking about being in China.” On December 25th 1979 Mike Douglas, (a popular television talk show host) called Muhammad Ali in his Los Angeles home, to wish him a Merry Christmas and to extend a couple invitations. The first was to the screening of “Going in Style” starring George Burns and Lee Strasburg, which Ali readily accepted. Mike: “On January 7th I’m having my anniversary show for my 18th year on television...” Ali: “Thank you, I would love to be there but I’m going to the White House on the 7th. President Carter wants to be briefed on my trip to Peking.” Mike: “Wow! Isn’t that something… poor kid from Louisville, Kentucky, at the White House, talking about being in China.” Ali: “Maaan! That’s a baaad man!” Mike: “The Head Man!” “When we reach a certain level of fame there is a responsibility that comes with it. You have to watch what you say and how you act and where you go. People look up to you— they follow and admire you. I never wanted to do anything to disgrace myself, my family, my friends, or my religion. It hasn’t been a smooth road or an easy job and I’ve made my share of mistakes along the way but if I have changed even one life for the better—I haven’t lived in vain.” - Muhammad Ali

The Politics of Fame In December of 1979 the Russians invaded Afghanistan. President Jimmy Carter asked Muhammad Ali to visit five African Nations to represent The United States position on boycotting the 1980 Olympics in Moscow (due to the extreme abuse inflicted upon the citizens of Afghanistan). Ambassador Andrew Young, a confidant to Martin Luther King, was in close personal contact with Ali. Young felt that Ali was the ideal representative of a person trying to defend the civil rights and liberties of not only Americans, but for all people around the world whose human rights were being violated. Ali made the trip unaware that the United States had refused to join twenty-nine African countries in boycotting the Montreal Olympics over South Africa’s place in the sporting world. Ali stated that had he known the history he may not have made the trip. When Ali learned the truth he felt used and embarrassed reportedly stating, “President Carter put me on the spot. He sent me around the world to take a whuppin for American politics.” Not all of Ali’s diplomatic choices have been wise but his intentions have always been pure. He does whatever he can to help people in need. In 1985 he flew to Lebanon in an attempt to secure the release of four hostages. He later he flew to Iraq and successfully negotiated the release of fifteen American hostages in 1990. Helping people in need has always been his driving force. The Responsibility of Fame On December 27th 1979 an Israeli reporter asked Muhammad Ali what he thought about the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt. “I know nothing about the politics of Israel and Egypt. Although I am a Muslim I don’t understand the problems that the two countries have been having over the years. But I know that all people are Gods people regardless of race religion or color and I know that God is not for war. I know God is not for violence. I know he is for peace. So I think that whatever people are involved—whether they are Israelis, Arabs, Puerto Ricans or Chinese, I think that it’s nice to see countries who don’t agree religiously on many things—countries who don’t agree politically— can make some kind of bond to stop killing and bombing regardless of what other countries may say. I think that would be nice because I’m sure the Israeli people are very saddened when their boys are killed. I’m sure the Egyptian people are very hurt when their boys are killed. If they can do anything—they can stop. I can understand why they don’t want to keep suffering so much. So I can sympathize with Israel and I can sympathize with Egypt. I can sympathize with any country regardless of their beliefs— whether I agree or not— that they are tired of suffering so many casualties. So whatever they can do to help lessen them—I think that is good.” The same reporter extended an invitation to Ali from the officials of Israel. They wanted to present him with award and asked if he would consider coming to their country to receive it. Ali replied, “Two groups from South Africa invited me over and when I accepted their invitation or talked about it, I got calls from all the African Nations, asking me not to go. They informed me that the United Nations and the African countries voted for me to stay home. Some people wanted to improve the education among blacks and build better schools in black neighborhoods so I wanted to accept the invitation I thought that was a nice gesture for peace and equality. But they asked me not to go because they said it would make it look like I was ordaining South Africa’s works and that South Africa wasn’t doing what they promised. By so many people protesting about South Africa and about me coming to South Africa they could use my presence there to say, “Muhammad Ali came so why do you say that we are not just to blacks” It was a political thing. So many native South Africans wanted to see me— so many of them like me so I was going mainly to see them— to inspire them and uplift them and make them feel good. Now, regardless of who invited me that was in my heart. I’m just sorry that all of these things have to get involved because to me, humans are humans and people are people.

So what I’m saying to you my friend is I want your invitation and I will greatly consider coming, but I don’t want to come if it’s going to stir up all my people against me or cause controversy if they make it a political issue. I have many Israeli friends in this country. On Miami Beach so many of the Jewish people support me—the old ladies, they come to see me train. They like me and I like them. So send me your proposal and I’ll have it looked at to be sure the world isn’t going to condemn me if I come. Just like Anwar Sadat, he made peace and now all of the Arabs and the Muslims are condemning him because he is tired of seeing his boys killed, he’s tired of always being attacked or fighting for whatever the cause is that causes death. So I can sympathize with Sadat but the whole Arab world is cut off from him, and looks at him as though he is an extension of Israel. I don’t want them to look at me like that because I just made a trip.” Yesterday and Tomorrow

Nothing can take away the past. It happened and its part of history.

“First they came for the socialist. And I did not speak out because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists. And I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews. And I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me. And there was no one left to speak for me.” (A poem on the wall of the Holocaust Museum) “For all kids and people around the world on the downside of advantage, just like me, you can each grow up to be, The Greatest of All Times! Remember when you get there, to treat all people with kindness and respect, because we are all connected and we are all here for one cause, the human cause. No matter how famous we get, no matter how wealthy we become, we are all equal in Gods eyes and it is only the heart that makes us great or small. Stand up for each other. Speak up for those whocannot speak for themselves and always be true to yourself. When you reach the mountain top try not to look down at anyone, and remember the responsibility that comes with fame— there will be little boys and girls looking up to you— lead them well.” - Muhammad Ali

Ali with fans, mid -1960’s.

Muhammad Ali, is still one of the most recognized and beloved human beings on the face of the earth. While most recognize him as a gladiator in the fighting arena, he is a gentle man that will do almost anything to avoid hurting another person. Although his voice and movement are not as sharp as they once were, he has a clear mind and a pure heart. No matter where he is on the globe his intention is always the same— to greet as many of his adoring fans as time and health will permit. Today he lives in peace and comfort and he can be seen driving around his home town of Louisville Kentucky, or out in the social scene of his second home in Scottsdale Arizona where he attends sporting events regularly. Proving that in spite of his physical condition, he is still active and living a full and prosperous life. Ali still travels occasionally but on his average leisurely day, he enjoys going out to the movies, or watching old westerns or Elvis Presley movies, in his home theater. When he’s not painting or creating his latest art works he can be seen dining out or taking scenic drives up in the hills of Paradise Valley. Ali has nine children who love him dearly and visit him often. He has a caring wife that makes sure that his needs are met and plenty of friends and family to keep him company. He has lived a rich full life without regrets and he is at peace with himself. What more could anyone hope for—what more could anyone dream of.

Introducing:

Andoni ZORBAS By Anthony Calderon

The story you’re about to read is 100% true, despite the unbelievable nature of the circumstances which created, or, more to the point, molded Andoni Zorbas into the multitalented Artist he has become; and, to clarify, when I say “molded,” I’m applying this word in the strictest sense of a Blacksmith using fire on wrought iron to forge metal masterpieces… Andoni’s story begins in Australia, where he was born in 1992. His mother, Magdalena Berezvai, a former professional violinist, is teaching violin and earning a comfortable living for Andoni and his sister, Claudia, who is only a year older than him... Andoni began drama lessons at the age of 5 with Fiona Perry, and won his first drama competition just one month later. This early achievement fuelled a lifelong desire in Andoni to give something back to other people using his talents; and, as he grew

older, his keen knowledge and attachment to the many different cultures in Australia became part of his acting repertoire… In 2002 Andoni moved to Hungary because his sister, Claudia, now an accomplished violinist in her own right, had just become an International Competition winner, and was accepted at Europe’s preeminent school for violinists, the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest to study the violin. In Hungary Andoni also found success as a television actor and ballroom dancer. His mother, Magdalena, had advised him years before about the tools an actor needed to become a modern-day Renaissance Man, which meant Andoni not only learned how to act, but how to sing, write, play a musical instrument (the violin), and dance (Andoni became a European Latin Dancing Ballroom Champion

in 2009). Andoni would have to be exceptionally rich in creativity, and develop diverse abilities so he could live the lives of the characters he was playing… As we fast-forward to the crucial moment about to play out in our story, I want you to keep in mind that Andoni is now all of 16 years old… We are in a Police Station in Hungary. Andoni’s mother, Magdalena, is facing imprisonment from a corrupt Police Detective, and Andoni – again, barely 16 – is about to break through the “fourth wall of acting” and give the performance of his life to save his mother…but how did we get here? For this I owe it to you to at least go back one year, when Magdalena’s other child prodigy, Claudia – a beautiful 16 year-old herself at the time – is now a phenomenal violinist on the brink of global

success. She had already performed for famed Conductor Zubin Mehta, and was steps away from seeing her dream of joining the New York Philharmonic manifest… All these hopes and aspirations were cruelly thwarted and crushed forever when Claudia was approached by an older man on the streets of Hungary one day while walking home… The man worked on her, as only a skilled pedophile can, and eventually gained her trust. Magdalena’s daughter gave up her career and left her home to live with this predator, who not only stole her body, but one of the brightest musical futures this world has ever seen… In Hungary, laws governing older men with teenage girls are almost nonexistent, which meant Magdalena had little help from the authorities in getting her daughter back; and Magdalena soon found out that the predator who took her daughter was closely tied with – you may have already guessed it – the corrupt Police Detective… Magdalena is being falsely accused of harassing her daughter’s abductor, and is being detained and questioned… And now we come to our “opening scene…” Inside a Hungarian police station, a heartbroken mother sits in tears as her 16 year-old son tries to comprehend the evil that has befallen his family…

“Sleepover Club” Emanuelle Bains and Andoni Zorbas

In an interrogation room, the heartless, corrupt Police Detective tells Andoni that his mother will be incarcerated, and in this one heightened moment of fear and grief, 16 year old Andoni holds back his tears and delivers an on-thespot monologue with intense conviction. He tells the Police Detective, “I am an actor – you know this – and I am telling you that I am going to go to Hollywood, where I will star in movies, and one day I’m going to win an Academy Award – and on that night I will invite you to come to Hollywood and walk the ‘Red Carpet’ to see me accept my Award… All this I will do for you…if you let my mother go…” And, as we say in the biz’, “Scene…” Andoni’s powerful words and the passion in which he delivered them moved the Police Detective, who, taking it all in, believed that Andoni really would fly to Hollywood, act in movies and someday win an Oscar…and he would be flown to Hollywood to witness everything by doing this small favor for Andoni now… It made sense… Of course, his pedophile friend wouldn’t be too happy about him releasing Magdalena, but what the hell; everyone knows there’s no honor among thieves…

Nicole Zorin and Andoni during practice

And that is the story of how Andoni cleared his mother’s name and record, and prevented her from rotting in a Hungarian jail… Magdalena and Andoni decided to leave Hungary for their own safety, because there was no way of knowing how long the web of “visions of grandeur” Andoni had spun in the Police Detective’s mind would stay in place. Magdalena had to leave her daughter behind, but made it her mission to give Andoni every possible opportunity to further his acting talents… Soon after Andoni and Magdalena moved to Hollywood, where Andoni attended – and recently graduated from – Hollywood High. Although Andoni had already been a lead actor on television shows like Australia’s “The Sleepover Club” (2006), a young adult drama, Andoni continued a rigorous training here in Los Angeles: the Stella Adler Studio, D’Art Drama Studio for Stand-Up

lived a lifetime in his teenage years… He’s experienced the kind of heartache and grief that would break down most middle-aged people I know… Yet, somehow, he remains positive and optimistic about life and people in general…and he has never stopped talking about his beloved sister, and will never stop hoping that she will come back into his life… During a meeting with Leah Spielberg (yes, Steven’s mother), early last year, Andoni told Leah the story of how his sister had been snatched away by a predator in Hungary, and how his mother, Magdalena, had been arrested and almost imprisoned when she tried to get her daughter back... Leah was moved to tears, and, told Andoni that this is the kind of story that Hollywood needs, and when his movie comes out in the cinemas , she would love to go and see it. This meeting, and Leah’s stirring words inspired Andoni to finally write a screenplay about his life and his family’s struggle… Leah Speilberg and Andoni

Comedy, the Sterling Studio, New York Film Academy’s Los Angeles Acting Course…

the next Scorsese & Deniro, since he has now clearly met his acting counterpart.

Andoni had a host of memorable, scenestealing cameos in television and independent films until he landed his first feature film role in “The Big Brisk” (Ace Bobo Productions); but it was the second leading role he secured, in Henri Charr’s “The Big Secret of Hidden Pines” where Andoni’s true talent was finally recognized.

Ironically, many people in Hollywood refer to Andoni as “The Little Deniro,” and he is known for taking his craft extremely serious… In my interview with Andoni in Hollywood, I

Director/Writer Henri Charr told me during our phone interview, “From the moment I saw Andoni I knew he was my lead… There was something magnetic about him… And once he started acting, there was no doubt in my mind. I was very impressed with him… In total, we auditioned 600 actors for that role, but after seeing Andoni, he became the bar by which I judged all the other actors… He was incredible… He has a deep, dramatic quality… A believability… And yet, he can be incredibly funny… Not every one can walk that line…” Charr talked about the professionalism of Andoni. “He’s always on time, extremely respectful and courteous to everyone. A very mature young man… And, as a Director, he’s extremely easy to work with: he can do exactly what you tell him…to perfection…” Both “The Big Brisk” and “The Big Secret of Hidden Pines” will be out later this year, and Charr has already cast Andoni as the lead in his next feature film “The Move,” where he will play a Latin Ballroom Dancer… I joked with Charr about him and Andoni being

“I would like to bring back memorable screen characters, so when people walk out of cinemas they’ll never forget the characters you brought to life… My goal is to express everything that can be expressed in Art…” asked him what he really wanted to accomplish with his acting; he answered: “I would like to bring back memorable screen characters, so when people walk out of cinemas they’ll never forget the characters you brought to life… I want to create characters that will stay with you for eternity… My goal is to express everything that can be expressed in Art…” And, did I mention, Andoni just turned 18…

The script, which is now finished, is currently being read by a select few who understand the sensitivity of the subject matter… For Andoni, the process of writing his story was cathartic, and with this movie he wants to shed light on his sister’s plight in Hungary, and – God willing – bring Claudia home… I began this story with the metaphor of Andoni as an artist being put through fire and forged by a Blacksmith to become the artist that he is. So many great artists and great art have been created through extreme strife and suffering… In “The Third Man” (1949), Orson Welles’ contribution to Graham Greene’s screenplay were two sentences, which became the most famous lines in the movie, and they may explain why Andoni’s adversity has only made him stronger… The line Orson Welles wrote and delivered is as follows: “You know what the fellow said – in Italy, for thirty years under the they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo Michelangelo,Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace – and what did that produce? The ” cuckoo clock.” Andonii can be reached at www.andonizorbas.com or 323-678-3239

DIMITRIS CHRISTOFORIDIS “Living life ‘nice n easy’ starts from within,” said Dimitris Christoforidis as he began to speak of his philosophy on living a simple, yet active lifestyle during a recent interview I held with him. His profound yet positive words of how and why to live simply were not only inspiring, but also a refreshing reminder to take time to enjoy the beauties of life. Born in Kozani, Greece, the capital of Western Macedonia, to Giannis and Eleni Christoforidis, Dimitris dreamed to someday create a life he would love to live beyond the fields that surrounded his family home in Northern Greece. During his childhood, Dimitris played basketball with his younger brother, Nicholas, every chance they had. This later landed him on a semi professional team at the age of 16. “Aw to be a LA Laker someday”, said Dimitris with a smile in his voice. “I love the Los Angeles Lakers along with their great passion and perseverance to be the best they can be.” Having once lived in Sweden and then later moving to the United States where he lived in Chicago and New York City, he eventually ended up in the entertainment capital of the world, Los Angeles, California. Unlike most who come to Los Angeles to get on the big screen, Dimitris was pursuing other dreams. No, it was not to play for the LA Lakers; his vision was quite different. Dimitris wanted to combine the creation of deliciously healthy food with a place of escape for professional sports players and various celebrities where they could be given a hiatus from the bright lights and fervor of stardom.

Dimitris experimented with the California and more specifically, the Los Angeles culinary palate, which eventually lead to the opening of Sanctuary, a restaurant/lounge that soon became an exclusive hide-a-way for many in the entertainment industry. He was highly respected by his A-List customers for not succumbing to the ever-persistent paparazzis loitering outside his establishment. Rather, Dimitris was acknowledged as an owner who created a safe haven for celebrities and others to relax and get away from it all. Dimitris honored privacy for all of his clients with no exception! Hence one of the reasons he was so highly regarded throughout the city and amongst multiple celebrities who frequented Sanctuary. With a strong voice Dimitris stated, “I was not interested in getting a payout to sell stories about the celebrities who frequented my establishment. These people

were my friends and they trusted me. No money is worth breaking the bond amongst good friends.” In 2003, Greece was pulling at Dimitris’ heart to return. What would he do? How could he leave everything he had built in Los Angeles and move back? He emphatically stated there was nothing that could stop him because he believed in his heart it was time to go. What mattered most was the love he had for his homeland and for his family he had left behind over 25 years prior. It was time to return to Greece and build the lifestyle he loved to live amongst his people. “There really is no place like home,” Dimitris said with emotion, “my parents, brother, relatives and friends who I had left behind many years ago mattered more than anything else in life - they still do. Being with the people I love fills my heart.” As Dimitris continued to speak of moving back to Greece he shared, “yes, there are many things I miss about Los Angeles. I miss the wonderful weather, the healthy California cuisine and mostly, the irreplaceable friendships that I made there. In spite of this, Greece is where my heart and soul find happiness so here I am.” He went further to say, “the United States will always have a special place in my heart. I’m so grateful for the opportunities I was given. It was an amazing 25 years. Who knows, maybe the future holds the possibility for a return to the U.S. someday.”

Sea with my komboloy (Greek for “Worry Beads”) in hand, allowing myself to get lost in the beauty.” Dimitris’ passion to live a healthy lifestyle begins with the food he eats. Greece is known for the healthy Mediterranean diet but like many other urban cities, fast food has also flourished. Dimitris wanted to develop a new twist on a healthy and fast cuisine in Athens and he has brilliantly accomplished this task. Along with his business partner, Chef Chris Athanasiadis, Dimitris’ venture began with the opening of a healthy souvlaki eatery named “Derlicatessen” in 2006. Their motto for this fresh souvlaki place is: “No fast food, Yes good food.” It’s the only eatery in Athens serving the finest meats on whole-wheat pita bread with freshly made tzatziki sauce.

“I do my best to make time to enjoy the simple things in life”

Currently living in Athens, there isn’t a day that goes by that Dimitris is not handling one business to the next, personally managing and attending meetings and taking conference calls while collaborating with colleagues between it all. “It’s nonstop for me daily but I love it!” said Dimitris with passion in his voice, “the busier I am the happier I become. I must say though, I do my best to make time to enjoy the simple things in life: like spending time with good friends, a spontaneous visit to my loving parents or taking a ride to sit and look out into the magnificent Mediterranean

Dimitris Christoforidis, Chef Chris Athanasiadis Derlicatessen ~ Athens, Greece

Is your mouth watering yet? Feel like saying OPA? Well there’s more! Having become known as the “health nut of Greece” and seeing that this healthy cuisine had been received so well, Dimitris wanted to take things a bit further and create something that hadn’t hit Greece quite yet. “I just couldn’t stop there; I wanted to keep spreading the health,” declared Dimitris. What else could he create? How about a BIO restaurant café/bar to get you in the mood to go organically Greek? That’s right, he did it! In 2008 he, along with his “partner in crime” (so to speak), Chef Chris Athanasiadis, opened “nice n easy” BIO restaurant café/bar located in Kolonaki (a hot spot in Athens). Dimitris’ commitment to living a healthy lifestyle has been a lifelong passion for him. Consequently, he was determined to open a restaurant where people could come take it ‘nice n easy’ while enjoying healthy food and a drink to relax; hence, the creation of ‘nice n easy’ BIO restaurant café/bar.

So, why the name ‘nice n easy’, I thought? Being a huge Frank Sinatra fan, Dimitris said he wanted the classic film era to be the theme of ‘nice n easy’ (sound like a song Frankie used to sing? – yes it is!). Dimitris shared, “the combination of the classic film era and the healthy cuisine works organically together. And I’m happy to say ‘nice n easy’ has been embraced by the Athenians and is frequented by multiple celebrities and tourists daily. In fact, many refer to us as the ‘Hollywood of Athens’, and we like that.” Dimitris added, “I couldn’t have done this without my wonderful partners at ‘nice n easy’, my primary collaborator, Chef Chris Athanasiadis and Irene Andersen. Chef Chris, with his extraordinary culinary talents, has created a delicious variety of amazing dishes that our customers love. His creations never cease to amaze me. Working with Chris is an everyday delight!”

“Irene is an exceptional attribute to the success of our business running smoothly and keeping our employees happy and engaged in their jobs,” stated Dimitris, “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Irene and her family. Her mother, Eleni Sotiriou, is one of the founders of Heart Doctors, a humanitarian non-profit organization derived from love for the suffering fellow human beings emanating from the heart. This organization is near and dear to my heart and I have great hopes it will continue to change the lives of many worldwide in the years to come. In fact, a designated amount of the profit made at ‘nice n easy’ is allocated to Heart Doctors and we’re proud to do it.” ( www.heartdoctors.gr) As he continued speaking of his partners at ‘nice n easy’ Dimitris also shared, “when you respect one another, keep positive and collaborate as one, you’re sure to be successful. And that’s how we work at ‘nice n easy’.” Having recently visited ‘nice n easy’ BIO restaurant café/bar while in Athens, I can truthfully say Dimitris and Chef Chris have truly developed a genuine concept that is tasty as well as wholesome. The cuisine is so fresh, the drinks are diverse and appealing and, the atmosphere is wonderfully welcoming. Dishes like the “Marlon Brando Burger” which is comprised of Kobe beef topped with cheddar cheese, baked onions, coleslaw and French fries make your mouth water – it’s the ultimate hamburger! Then there’s “The Anthony Quinn Quasantilla” which is described as a warm tortilla with chicken filet, gouda cheese and vegetables, sprinkled with a sweet chili sauce - it’s so good it’ll make you want to DANCE! And let’s not forget “The Frank Sinatra” which is the Black Angus free range filet of beef topped with a wild mushroom sauce, mashed carrots and grilled young potatoes – an absolute favorite amongst the customers. The House Specialty Cocktails include the refreshing ‘nice n easy’ Mojito and the Tutti Frutti Martini which I will admit, really do go down ‘nice n easy’. I must also mention they have a fantastic selection of BIO beers and fine wines. The wide variety of gourmet coffees, organic teas and creative smoothies are very impressive as well. The “Don’t Worry Be Happy” smoothie made with crisp apples, fresh walnuts, local pure bee honey, tangy lemons and frozen yogurt gives a new definition to relaxing in the moment! Dimitris firmly believes that regular consumption of the “Don’t Worry Be Happy” brings you pure relaxation! (www. niceneasy.gr)

When I asked Dimitris where he finds his inspiration for all the wonderful things he does he profoundly stated, “I go deep within my soul seeking inspiration from my past. Though this may sound odd, I must tell you, I am one who actually enjoys the hardships in life. If you don’t experience the challenging times, you can’t appreciate the good times. Sometimes you fail however, when you fall down you must get up and keep moving. So I embrace the tough times and I learn from them.” Dimitris added, “I’m so blessed with two wonderfully supportive parents and good friends – these individuals are truly priceless. For me, happiness and inspiration comes from others, not from material things.”

Though my interview with Dimitris was coming to an end, I had become ever so intrigued by his authentic love of life that I still wanted to hear more and wondered, what will he do next? When I asked him what’s in his future, he stated, “I’m always looking for new opportunities to create a better world in which we live in. One of the companies that I am further developing along with my colleague, Nicholas Papadopoulos, is Solyndra. I currently serve as the official sales representative for Greece and Cyprus. The company is headquartered in Fremont, California and designs and manufactures solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, comprised of panels and mounts, specifically designed for the commercial rooftop market.” Dimitris added, “I have a tremendous amount of confidence in this company as well as its leaders. Dr. Chris Gronet, founder of Solyndra and a very good friend has taken this company to great heights. I truly believe it will be one of the most successful solar energy companies in the world. The benefits of solar energy are tremendous. (www.solyndra.com) Dimitris concluded by sharing some of his prospective entrepreneurial goals that include exploring the possibility of starting a production company called ‘nice n easy Productions’. “This would be a company I would launch with one of the most dynamic screenwriters and directors I know, Vasilis Katsikis. Truthfully speaking, I would only consider this venture with Vasilis because of his extraordinary talent and well-respected work.” In the final words of my interview with Dimitris, he added, “I’m open to all possibilities that cross my path and you never know, I may even bring a ‘nice n easy’ BIO restaurant café/bar and a healthy souvlaki place to Los Angeles with my dear friend and highly esteemed business man, Dino Andrianos and/or my long time friend in which I have great admiration for, Petros Benekos, owner of the spectacular PETROS Restaurant/Lounge in Manhattan Beach, CA and Los Olivos, CA. There are no limitations or boundaries.” Dimitris said with enthusiasm, “Strong possibilities also exist to consider a similar venture to open a ‘nice n easy’ BIO restaurant café/bar with a good friend, not to mention a brilliant entrepreneur, Erol User in Istanbul, Turkey.” He then added, with a laugh, “How’s that for organically mixing things up a bit?” When I asked Dimitris to elaborate on future opportunities beyond business, his heartwarming response was, “you know Pamela, it’s a bit difficult to be specific because truly no one really knows for sure what the future holds. However, I am a believer that there are no ‘accidents’ in life. Things that are meant to be happen for good reason. What I can say for certain is that regardless of my future, I intend to reach out my hand to help others. I can’t ignore that a day doesn’t go by where I don’t pass by someone significantly less fortunate. When I look at them, I can usually see a smile on their face and appreciating life. These wonderful people truly remind me to be grateful for my past as well as my present. Respect for people and life happenings urges me to continue to help others as I walk my path in life.” Without a doubt, we have more to look forward to as the ‘nice n easy’ life of Dimitris Christoforidis continues to create positive change and inspiration in Athens, Los Angeles and as it looks quite possibly in other destinations throughout the world. “I am a believer that there are no ‘accidents’ in life.

Suzy By Pamela Spyrs Heartwarming, Hopeful, Humility… Are all words that describe a truly inspiring interview I recently held with Suzy Amis Cameron. Every word Suzy spoke was uttered with exhilarating passion and sincerity. She captured my attention so intensely with her descriptive ways of sharing stories stemming from her childhood, ranging to her modeling and acting days, through her worldly travels, on to her humanitarian efforts and bringing it current to her most precious roll as a wife to Academy Award-winner, James Cameron and mother to their five children. As you read on, I’ll take you on a journey through the life of a true MUSE for humanity. From riding horses as a child in Oklahoma City to the bright lights of Tinseltown, Suzy Amis Cameron has lived a fascinating life filled with an enduring love and sensitivity for the environment and humanitarian issues worldwide.

“Coming from a family of six brothers and sisters it’s true to say there was never a dull moment in our household growing up. As the fourth child I was the painfully shy one,” Suzy shared as she spoke of her childhood years. She added, “I come from a family of multiple aviators including myself. However, I always wanted to be a Veterinarian but as you can see that wasn’t exactly what happened.” She continued with a laugh, “The closest I actually got to being a Vet was playing one in a film I starred in called, Watch It.”

So how is it a “painfully shy” child who grew up in Oklahoma City ends up becoming a successful actress and model and even more importantly an inspiration to people worldwide? When I asked Suzy this question she responded by saying; “It all started in my teenage years when I wanted a new saddle for my horse. My father told me I needed to raise the money myself. Before I knew it, I was on the catwalk of local fashion shows making better money in an hour than I could make working multiple hours as a babysitter. As crazy as that may sound, the local modeling eventually led my path to meeting Eileen Ford who later introduced me on the Merv Griffin show in 1979 as the ‘Face of the Eighties’. And that’s how it all started.”

Amis Cameron A MUSE For Humanity

At the young age of 17, Suzy moved to Paris. She soon began traveling throughout various foreign cities, walking the runway shows for top designers, including Ralph Lauren, Kenzo and Perry Ellis and, being photographed by such renowned photographers as Herb Ritz, Patrick Demarchelier and Peter Lindberg for Vogue, Bazaar, Elle and other high fashion magazines. Throughout the global destinations Suzy visited, she was exposed to the harsh realities of life that existed worldwide and witnessed some of the worst cases of poverty and many disease stricken areas. The thoughts of these heart-wrenching situations remained a harsh vision of reality that she found impossible to forget. The lavish world of high fashion was so contrary to the observations she made on those trips. As Suzy described these experiences she became very emotional and said, “I sometimes find myself waking up at 3:00 am in a cold sweat wanting to know what I can do. It pains me to see children being treated poorly and, it hurts me when I see our planet not being respected.” A day doesn’t go by that Suzy is not taking action on projects and ideas in hopes to save our environment and those who live in it. Whether in her local community or, as far away as Thailand - Suzy stands strong in her belief - to reach out and help those in need and ensure a better tomorrow for the children of the world. As loving parents, Suzy and her husband, James, play an active role in the

lives of their five children. The strong bond of love and respect is evident in so many ways – through their positive role modeling to their community and globally but more importantly, how they are perceived through the eyes of their children. “Jim and I spend a lot of time with our children. We strongly believe that we should lead by example,” Suzy shared. She added that “children watch your every move and they hear your every word, which makes it so important to be positive role models for them. Jim and I have enormous trust and respect for each other as individuals – this interaction is priceless to me. It is our #1 priority to give something to our marriage every single day. We’re so connected that it doesn’t matter where we are physically located in the world - we remain close in one another’s heart.” Wanting to spread this type of enduring love and respect with other children in the world was something Suzy felt strongly about. As a result, she set her sights on building an educational institution where children would not only be educated in Mathematics, History and English rather, they would also be taught to respect our environment and learn how to live a healthy lifestyle. Suzy’s love for children and her desire to cultivate learning to another level resulted in the establishment of MUSE Global and MUSE School CA, founded by herself and her sister, Rebecca Amis. With their emphasis on respecting each

“Red Carpet Green Dress provides an amazing opportunity to aspiring designers and perfectly connects to MUSE’s global green philosophy by applying environmental awareness to our everyday lives.”

Thinking of ways to pursue her hopeful vision of bringing peace to the world is continuously in Suzy’s daily thoughts. Consequently, she developed the “RED CARPET GREEN DRESS” contest, which stimulates sustainable design, global green education, and raises funds for MUSE Global and the non-profit MUSE School CA. As a model, actress, environmental champion and educational activist, Suzy’s unique way of life birthed the creation of this contest and coupled it with a profound purpose. “Red Carpet Green Dress provides an amazing opportunity to aspiring designers and perfectly connects to MUSE’s global green philosophy by applying environmental awareness to our everyday lives,” said Suzy. What a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring fashion designer this contest is! Imagine your model wearing your winning dress design as you both walk the red carpet at the fabulous GLOBAL GREEN pre-Oscar Party in Hollywood, California on February 23, 2011. How exciting! This is the second annual Red Carpet Green Dress contest and from what I hear, there are some wonderful prizes for the winning entry! Participants may only apply via Internet during the contest period (from 12:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on December 8, 2010 through 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on February 2, 2011). child, teaching children how to respect themselves, others and the environment, MUSE continues to bring hope for a better tomorrow to children and parents daily. MUSE is a non-profit, educational organization in Topanga, California, dedicated to empowering children to grasp the full potential of their lives through academic excellence, personal responsibility, compassionate relations, global consciousness and environmental action. This philosophy is brought to life through MUSE Elementary School and MUSE Global and can be found on www.museelementary.org.

“Jim and I have enormous trust and respect for each other as individuals ... this interaction is priceless to me. It is our #1 priority to give something to our marriage every single day.”

Although I could have sat with Suzy for hours on end, listening to her fascinating stories and inspiring vision, my interview with her was nearing an end. Therefore, I felt it was time to ask her if she would share her wish for the world. Suzy took a deep breath and quoted Ghandi, “If there is to be true peace in the world, it must begin with the children.” She then went on to say, “For me, it’s always intertwined with children. Our philosophy at MUSE School is to inspire children to live more conscious lives in relation to themselves, one another and the planet. I so worry about how our children will grow up in this world. My wish is that we will make the steps necessary to put us on a different trajectory to leave a clean, functioning, sustainable planet for our children and their children.” photo: Brandon Hickman

Suzy inspired me beyond words with all her extraordinary experiences and dedicated works that she so eloquently shared. However, one question remained unanswered – I couldn’t help but wonder if she ever bought the saddle for her horse. So before I could let her go I asked her about the saddle. Suzy responded with a kind laugh and pride in her voice, “Yes, I did!”

BARB WIRE DOLLS

HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

By Dena Romios

“This is just what the world needs now, a good girlfronted punk band!”- Michael McDermott/Bouncing Souls Democracy, Olympics, The Birthplace of Civilization, Ouzo and Barb Wire Dolls…..what do they have in common? Though at first, it might appear there are no similarities there is one element that clearly unites them. They are all exports from Greece. Greece has been established as a mecca of the ancient arts. The most recent arrival from Greece are Barb Wire Dolls who have hit Hollywood like the War of the Titans! Barb Wire Dolls is a girl fronted ‘Street-Rock’ band and is the first rock band from Greece to ever play in the USA. The band was formed within the artist commune of the island of Crete, The Ikarus, by guitarist Tas Doll. The Ikarus, in addition to supporting artists of all types, has an annual Rock Festival giving musical artists the opportunity to showcase their passionate love of music.

Tas, a professional surfer and skateboarder, was a classically trained pianist in his childhood years. One day, an electric guitar caught his attention, and it was “bye bye” piano from that day forward. He was so entranced, he insisted the guitar was to be his expression of his love for music. “I was given the honor to play Chopin’s piano in Poland when I was young, but when I first heard electric rock and roll, I just couldn’t wait to start my own band. That inspiration still burns within me and being at The Ikarus gave me the chance to write a lot of music while being surrounded by other artists that inspired me. I come from the island of Crete, however being on stage always feels like home for me,” said Tas with a smile on his face. With the love and support of his parents, Tas started taking guitar lessons. He credits his parents for always supporting his dreams with a “you can do whatever you set your mind on” attitude. Lead vocalist, Queen Isis, definitely has a name to live up to. She’s named after an Egyptian goddess and nine other strong women in history. Isis’s mother was in labor for ten hours, and Isis’s father decided that each hour deserved a name. He must have known his daughter was destined for success with a name that includes a goddess and other historic women. Isis is uniquely gifted with her vocal talent that has successfully led her to where she is today. She is not a formally trained vocalist, yet she is able to hit notes that traditionally one with years of training might only be able to reach. She sings from her heart and is guided by her soul when carrying a tune. When asked to describe how music makes her feel, Queen Isis stated, “I feel alive when I am onstage. There is something about performing live which bonds the audience and I and it’s life

changing for me at each show. Live music is like the energy that speaks to all souls and there is always a celebration when this happens. I witnessed this in Crete at The Ikarus with all the great musicians that live there. Music is the language we all speak, regardless of race, creed, or color. And it’s time to unite!”

Together, Tas and Isis started writing and producing their own music. They have a “take it to the street” attitude when it comes to composing their music. You’ll find them on any given day hanging out listening to the people on the street, absorbing their thoughts, sympathizing with their pain and rejoicing in their successes. Their music is created in hopes to inspire people. They share the struggles of mankind through their lyrics. With the economic and political crisis in Greece, they decided that they had to do something to get their music onto the international scene. Concurrently, by word of mouth, the world famous KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer was looking for some new talent to launch. He contacted Barb Wire Dolls and encouraged them to come to the US. That’s all Tas needed to hear to get him ready to rock the USA so he tracked down multi-talented drummer, Greg Doll and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. It was USA bound from there for Barb Wire Dolls! For 16 consecutive weeks and counting, Rodney on the Roq has been playing Barb Wire Dolls music on KROQ. He has declared them as “really good” and has said their song “California” is a hit. Rodney has been instrumental in launching careers of such bands as The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash, Blondie, Nirvana and numerous other popular ‘take it to the street’ rock bands. On Saturday, December 18th, Barb Wire Dolls made their live USA debut playing for a sold out performance at the world famous Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip. The band consists of Queen Isis on vocals, Tas Doll on guitar, VooDoo Doll on bass and Greg Doll on drums. The Barb Wire Dolls are being presented again by KROQ and Rodney on the Roq” at The Sunset Room on Friday, February 4th in Hollywood and on Saturday, February 5, at the Double Down Saloon in Las Vegas. Check them out! Alexander the Great attempted to conquer the world with power, but now it’s time for the new Street Generation of Greeks to conquer the world with the power of music.

“Barb Wire Dolls are kinda like a girl- fronted Green Day. They could become huge.”- Charlotte Cooper/The Subways

“People ask me how long it took to adapt to America. Twenty minutes.” - Victoria Beckham In these few words Victoria Beckham has put her finger upon the pulse of our age. Adaptability is a major key to success in the global economy, as Ms. Beckham’s own business practices aptly demonstrate.

the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Some of the instructors appeared to be half my age. Much as I love the younger generation, I want it to teach me rather than to manage me. And teach me it does, every single day.

The former Spice Girl’s name suddenly appears to be everywhere on product lines ranging from fragrances to handbags to sunglasses. She has designed jeans for Rock & Republic and modeled underwear for Emporio Armani.

Children are naturally inquisitive and show no shame about learning from errors. My younger students in any subject are inevitably the most fearless and always the first to volunteer. A recent adult ESL student who was praised for making productive mistakes giggled, “I am becoming younger!!”

In February 2009 Victoria Beckham appeared on the cover of Russian VOGUE and introduced her new clothing line in Moscow the following year. Russia is widely known to be a problematic but very promising market for fashion and luxury goods. Last spring Victoria Beckham wisely collaborated with Eva Longoria Parker on the LG Fashion Touch campaign, promoting state of the art smart phones predicted to be one of 2011’s hottest trends. Shortly afterwards Ms. Beckham was added to the Range Rover interior design team. While reception of the results appears to be mixed, Victoria Beckham’s bold abilities to diversify and innovate command respect. She is clearly not afraid to take risks and this plus her relative youth and growing international reputation bode well for her business career. I have had emigre associates with similar qualities. I met one last August at her first promotional event in LA and was immediately struck by her willingness to go after what she wanted. This same woman was offered a TV interview in September and a TV show in October. This came about because someone with the right connections happened to see my company slogan “Breaking Global Barriers to Success” on a coffee shop postcard I had ordered off the Internet for free.

It is this very ability to anticipate the future that allows humans to adapt by visualizing options. Learners of English usually find it both exhausting and exhilarating to force their minds into these innovative grammatical molds and envision new possibilities. Many of my international students claim that my American teaching style stimulates independent thought. For me there can be no greater compliment and no greater contribution than this. Afflicted with an enormous and bulbous nose, he is convinced that no woman can ever love him, and thus makes himself notorious in Paris for his courage, gallantry, and charm of verse. Putting aside his own love for the beautiful Roxanne, he offers his powers of expression to his rival, as this hysterical and stirring adventure unfolds. They explore sexual identity, challenge racism, experiment with drugs and burn draft cards, but the show resonates with an irresistible message of hope through songs such as “Let the Sun Shine In,” Aquarius,” “Hair,” “Where Do I Go” and “Good Morning Starshine.” Written by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and directed by Diane Paulus, it runs through January 23 at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. “Forever Plaid” Once upon a time, there were four guys (Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie) who loved to sing. Discovering they shared a mutual affection for music and entertaining, they got together and dreamed of becoming like their idols. They rehearsed in the basement of Smudge’s family’s plumbing supply company. It was here they became Forever Plaid. As their sound developed, they sang at family gatherings, fund-raisers, and eventually graduated to supermarket openings and proms. Then, finally, they landed their first big gig at the Airport Hilton cocktail bar - The Fusel Lounge. En route to pick up their custom–made plaid tuxedos, they were slammed broadside by a school bus filled with eager catholic teens. The teens were on their way to witness the Beatles’ American debut on the Ed Sullivan Show and miraculously escaped the uninjured. The members of Forever Plaid, however, were killed instantly. It is at the moment, when their careers and lives ended, that the story of Forever Plaid begins. Written by Stuart Ross and directed by Orlando Alexander, it runs through January 29 at the Glendale Centre Theatre in Glendale. Black keeps White a virtual prisoner while he probes the roots of White’s suicide attempt. Black

is no stranger to the violence of human nature, but his life has changed drastically since a near death experience. Written by Cormac McCarthy and directed by John Perrin Flynn, it runs through January 31 at Rogue Machine in Theatre Theater in Los Angeles. “The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies” celebrates it’s twentieth season with music and dance of the 40s through 70s performed by a cast ranging in age from 56 to 81 years old, and features lavish costumes and Broadway-caliber production numbers as well as a variety act and special guest stars including Lesly Gore and the Four Preps. Written and directed by Riff Markowitz, it runs through May 15 at the Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs. For tickets call 760-327-0225 or visit www.psfollies.com. “99 Impossible Things” Harold’s an inventor. An invention is something that seems impossible until it is made. While coming up with the next great invention, one can contemplate a large number of possibilities---as many as 99 impossible things, in fact. He’s one of the habitués of the local Magic Bean Coffee Shop. Both the people who work there and the people who buy the coffee are dreamers. Some are coping with loss. Some are dealing with frustration. Several have unusual coping mechanisms: They’re accompanied by beings who do not (or at least should not) exist in the real world---an imaginary friend, a guardian angel, a human-sized sea monkey. The humans, at least, appear to be running in place. Then one day, a stranger moves into the neighborhood and jolts the coffeehouse regulars out of their complacent existences, much like a blast of caffeinated brew. She has some serious problems of her own, but no matter. She’s set life back into motion at the Magic Bean, and things will begin (finally) to change. Written and directed by Chelsea Sutton, it runs January 7 through February 13 at The Eclectic Company Theatre in Valley Village. For tickets call 818-508-3003 or visit www.
