LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
By Anthony Ewart, Associate Editor
As we prepare for the National Launch of Hollywood Weekly Magazine in January 2019, we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our readers for taking this 20 year journey with us to reach this historic moment in our Publication. On January 29th Hollywood Weekly Magazine will be in 630 Barnes & Noble stores across the country. If you were wondering whether there's a Barnes & Noble in Anchorage, Alaska, there is -- and we're going to be there! Our December Cover and Feature Story is Lika Osipova, Founder and Producer of Miss Russian Los Angeles Beauty and Talent Show. This remarkable Model and Business Owner received a "Role Model of the Year" Award from the city of West Hollywood for her efforts to harmoniously bring together different cultures in Los Angeles. Janel Parrish of "Pretty Little Liars" discusses the passion and beautiful message in her new film "Tiger," which also deals with cultural acceptance and tolerance. Our new Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray, is showing how positive social change can be made on a grassroots level, by simply interacting with people hungry for human connection. Although, with her new Title and Global Visibility, she'll no longer be just another volunteer helping improve the lives of children in need. Catriona Gray is going to make a difference in this Universe. We're proud to share her story. We have three Featured Artists: Simo Liu, Allois and Pasqual Bettio. Three incredible Artists from different parts of the world changing the landscape of art in Los Angeles with their unique perspectives. Then we have renaissance man Victor Migalchan, who's made it his mission to merge the poetic beauty of martial arts and the entertainment business. Victor, who's also a writer, profiles actor Nicolas Coster for HW; an actor with a passion for social responsibility. From EarthWater, our new sponsor on HW T.V., we have an interview with Dr. Liza Leal, their Medical Advisor, who talks about the importance of proper hydration. There's a reason EarthWater is our Official water. I predict a shift in your drinking products after you read Dr. Leal's article. We wish you, our Loyal Readers, a healthy, happy and prosperous 2019. We could not have achieved our National Launch and expansion without YOU.

People who change the world and accomplish incredible things are different from most people. Your interests, good qualities, and personality are what make you. Be proud of who you are, and don’t care if people like it. Don’t concentrate on what people say about your ideas, follow your desires and create your projects the way you feel is right. Don’t let negative people break you. You just need to ignore and forgive these unhappy people.”
I had the pleasure of interviewing Lika Osipova. Lika is an award winning founder and producer of Miss Russian Los Angeles Beauty and Talent Show which has successfully run for 7 years. This elegant event showcases the strength, intelligence, beauty, and talent of the finalists representing their roots as they compete to bring home the crown. Over the years, this star-studded event has brought out many of Hollywood’s elite. The local American-Russian population highly appreciated Lika’s efforts. She received the Role
Model of the Year award from the Advisory Board city of West Hollywood. Soon after accepting the first award Miss Russian LA talent and beauty show won the second award “for Outstanding Achievement” in 2016. The Los Angeles Office of CITY Clerk gave a Certificate of Recognition to Lika for her outstanding support for the 2017 Los Angeles Municipal Elections. Lika Osipova: I was born in a small city in Russia. I always was a little kid but with big dreams. I remember when I was 8 I was writing scripts and making small acts for our neighbors, I loved to be on stage and to perform even when my mom called me a “shy kid”. After my 13th birthday, I began to work and study at a modeling agency. I took part in beauty contests, concerts, fashion shows and festivals. But on top of that I graduated with a Master’s Degree in linguistics, phi-
lology and journalism. This university ranks among the most respected schools in Russia. The university selected me as one of its top 20 students and I received a gold medal and a Presidential Scholarship. Also I was a published journalist and worked on Russian TV. At the same time, I worked as a reporter for a Business newspaper. I gained experience in the advertising industry, as well. After winning the “White Gold” Beauty Pageant crown, I moved to the United
States in 2006. My first stop was in NYC. I came to the USA with a small bag, I never wanted to stay here because of my successful career in Russia. But my sister was begging me to stay with her and to build my career in America. I listened to her and I never regretted it. At the age of 23 I got married to a guy that I saw only 3 times in my life and moved to LA from NYC. It was a big exciting adventure and a huge risk for both of us, but somehow in a short period of time we beHOLLYWOOD MONTHLY • 7

Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and other awards. It was a big honor for me to attend these events and, of course, I always prepared my looks in advance and all the details for my gowns to shine on a red carpet. Once I went to DGA award to support my good friend who was nominated, when we walked in I noticed that a lot of people were looking at me in a weird way. I was really confused; I thought something was wrong with me and my outfit. When we went to the red carpet for the interviews literally almost all the cameras were on me. I felt a real minute of fame, yes it was just a minute, they mixed me up with Iggy Azalea, Australian rapper, but found out very quickly that I was not that person they were expecting. It was really funny and memorable moment.

came real soul mates and supporters to each other. Living in LA the center of show business, I decided to create my own project and successfully organized, produced and directed the first ever Russian beauty and Talent show, called “Miss Russian LA” in March of 2012.
MD: Can you share the funniest or most interesting story that happened to you since you started your company? LO: When I created my project and when the show became popular I started getting a lot of invitations for the prestigious events like the
MD: What do you think makes your company stand out? Can you share a story? LO: I always knew that the secret to creating your unique project is understanding what your viewers really want to see and what will motivate a potential contestant to come and be part of the event. It takes a lot of thought, brainstorming to realize what works and how to do the show not like any other, but with something that will make a difference. I think that the best way to stand out from competitors is to always strive to be better than before. I was a contestant myself and I know what it is like, so first of all I accommodate the interests of the participants. I never charge the finalists for the participation; I work with them after the grand show is over. All of the contestants are very talented and some of them are successfully making a Hollywood career after the show, using the connections that they made during the preparation for the show. I feel very proud that this project is helping to build bigger opportunities for these women MD: None of us are able to achieve success without some help along HOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY WEEKLY • 9
the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story? LO: Well, we all have different views and beliefs on what success is. Some people feel that success is having a happy family or having status while others think about being rich or being famous. As for me, I think that success is a mix of wealth, family, love, purpose and luck. There are a lot of people in our lives that try to put us down on our way to success. How can you not be affected by them? I always say if you love, respect and value yourself, you will not let anyone make you feel the way you don’t want to feel. Ironically, these people are helping you grow because you'll only become better and more successful so you can beat them. I feel blessed that I had good supporters and very powerful people around me who motivated me every second, and were great examples for me to follow. I believe in God and I thank God for every day, for everything that happens to me. I have a person who was helping me to achieve all my goals- my amazing mom, who always believed in me and pushed me to go further and never stop. I’m who I am only because of her. My parents divorced when I was 11, mom raised me and my sister by herself without any help, but we never felt that we don’t have a father because she did everything she could for us. At that time life wasn’t that easy and she always showed us an example of a successful and independent woman that always hits her goals no matter what. MD: Are you working on any exciting projects now? LO: Yes, projects never stop. Right now I’m shooting the third season of my Reality TV Show “Miss Russian LA”. It was a spontaneous idea to record everything that was going on during the working process before the competition. It’s always interesting to watch behind the scenes 10 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY
stuff and to know more about each character — each contestant: to know more about their background, interests, hobby and private life. Also, I’m currently recording a song (it will be a big surprise for my followers) with a famous Russian accordionist, singer and songwriter Peter Dranga. I’m always excited to challenge myself and to try something new especially when I’m getting proposals from such talented people. MD: How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world? LO: I believe in Karma. I strongly believe that what you do now will come back to you in the future. Life has a funny way of making you deal with what you make others go through. The success that I’ve had in my life come from helping other people reach their goals and I never wait for something in return. I was really happy to be involved in a fundraiser event dedicated for the victims of Hurricane Sandy in NY. The event that I hosted collected funds for the families who lost their homes and struggled after this terrible accident. I’m happy that my Miss Russian LA team was willing to help and be part of the Children Hospital Fundraiser Event. Our team is supporting low-income families in Ukraine and Russia, we are constantly sending them gifts, clothes and food. There is a Chinese saying that goes “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody." MD: Do you have a favorite book that made a deep impact on your life? Can you share a story? LO: I love to read. Books have the ability to suck us in, take us on adventures, teach us and change our lives forever. The first book that made a deep impact on me was “Anna Karenina” by Leo Tolstoy. I read it when I was 17 years old. This classic tale of love made me want to be a more moral
and better person. This book about love and friendship, pride and jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness, and the happiness and unhappiness. Reading this book made me want to fly, to change myself and to fall in love. MD: What are your “5 things I wish someone told me before I started my company” and why? Please share a story or example for each. LO: Be Different- Don’t concentrate on what people say about your ideas, follow your desires and create your projects the way you feel is right. I remember how one of my employers to whom I did a favor by bringing her on board, posted some negative things about me and my project on social media, all that she posted was absolutely not true and I was really upset that someone I know did bad things to me only because I refused to continue working with her. I was nice at the beginning and asked to remove this post, but she ignored, so I had to sue her. It was a big lesson for her; soon after the case was filed I got an apology letter from her and a request to be friends again. But I wish someone told me at that time that I just need to ignore and forgive these unhappy people. Be Fearless — Maybe you didn’t meet a goal on your preferred timeline or you’ve wasted a lot of time being afraid and you’re ashamed of that. Whatever it is, you can’t let fear and guilt paralyze you. Let your desire to achieve your goal overcome any fear you have of failing. Always try something new, don’t be afraid to be different, to be yourself. Don’t be a prisoner of your own fears. Write down your thoughts and ideas- Fine or awesome ideas can pop up at the strangest times but they tend to not stay for long in your head. So you need to capture them fast or they are gone in the wind. Since I’ve started to write things down more often I have also noticed when reviewing old notes how much my memory can leak. You can’t hold that many thoughts in
your head at once. If you want to solve a problem it can be helpful to write down your thoughts, facts and feelings about it. I learned how to do it constantly and I feel bad that I didn’t do it before. Engage with your audience- Interacting with your audience will expand your online presence and brand, and will bring some new business for your organization. I didn’t think about it when I just started, only a few years after I realized how important it is. My main goal is to engage with my visitors via all social media websites. I’m also trying to answer personally all comments left on my blog and emails sent from my subscribers. Investing some time to engage on a personal level with your audience is extremely important as this relationship is building trust.
Never give up- When I started creating my show, I didn’t have any sponsors who helped me. Yes I was the best in my field and so what? Who knew about it? I had to show what I can do. I had no mentor, no adviser or investor. I was new in LA and no one knew me. I thought that everything went in the wrong direction, and I had to shut it down and not do it. But I did not give up! I believed I could and I did. I continued to develop business skills and educate myself. You should not give up, either. Hustle every day and there is no way you will not succeed.
a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might see this. LO: Bill Gates, as he is one of the few people alive that has changed global history in a most positive way. He created large charity organizations with his wife and because of him so many people are having careers in the software industry. He's helping to make this a better world. It would be my honor to talk to this person, to get advice and to gain some skills.

Jenn Dawn: What’s In My Bag Hey Queens! Our favorite time of the year is among us...Fall/Winter Holiday season! For the fashionistas, it means breaking out with the coats, boots, scarves, hats and futuristic shades. For the divas, it’s all about new hair color, lip colors that pop, LASHES and creating that new Fall look. This year is all about being BOLD and creative. I’m always rocking bright new hair colors, so with loud hair, I keep it simple in the Winter with oversized sweaters, ripped jeans, hats and knee-high boots. For the glam, it’s smokey cat eyes, liquid liner, chrome coffin nails, metallic lips, matte shadows, mink lashes and cheeky illuminators. It’s all about that GLOW: A dewy look in the Winter is always sexy and fresh and keeping our skin hydrated is essential. A great, inexpensive moisturizing balm I’ve been using is BELIF the true cream moisturizing balm, which can be purchased at Sephora for only $38. Something we all struggle with in Winter is DRY hair. I’ve used countless products, oils and serums and nothing works as well as Fantasia Brazilian hair oil Keratin treatment which can be purchased at most beauty supply or hair supply stores. I love the price $10.99 and it smells great. This instantly brings dry hair to life, a must-have! As women, we are each so individually unique and special, all blessed with different styles, taste, and experience. What’s always interesting and fun is exploring WHAT’S IN YOUR BAG?? Let’s admit, we all have some cool stuff in that Gucci hobo or your Louie so let’s take a look at what’s in MY bag…

MISS UNIVERSE 2018 CATRIONA GRAY "A Celebration of the Sacred Feminine"
by Anthony Ewart Finally, we've reached the end of a very painful and tumultuous year. The #METOO Movement has provided a cathartic release for some, vindication for others, and across the board an understanding that, moving forward, America will have zero tolerance for sexism, chauvinism and misogyny. We are entering a renaissance of the Sacred Feminine. From the beginning of time artists have struggled to capture the essence of feminine beauty and femininity in sculptures, monuments, paintings and literature -- it has all been in vain, but it has been an enjoyable endeavor. It might be cliche to describe women as mysterious, but what in this world of beauty is not mysterious. The truth is the ancient civilizations got it right. Respect women, adore them, make them Goddesses (rightfully so), but don't waste your time trying to psychoanalyze them or ďŹ gure out what "makes them tick." James Cameron wrote in Titanic, "A Woman's Heart is an Ocean of Secrets." It's best to just leave it at that, and enjoy your time on this Earth with God's most wondrous creation: Woman. Ms. Philippines, Catriona Gray, is now Miss Universe. There are many adjectives one could use to describe Ms. Gray. There are two words you may not have heard in the news media, but those lucky enough to be in the inner circle of Catriona Gray probably use them to describe her every day. The words are 'Grounded' and 'Compassionate.'

Here's an excerpt from Catriona Gray's "Crown-Winning" performance at the Miss Universe Pageant: Steve Harvey: “What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life, and how would you apply it to your time as Miss Universe?” Catriona Gray: “I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila and the life there is very, it’s poor, and it’s very sad. And I’ve always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look in the beauty in the faces of the children, and to be grateful. And I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining, and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson. And this I think, if I could teach also people to be grateful, we could have an amazing world where negativity could not grow and foster, and children would have a smile on their face. Thank you.” Grounded and Compassionate... And now we can add Intelligent, Strong, Talented, and, of course, Gorgeous. So, Thank YOU, Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray, for helping the World (and our Universe), say farewell to this year on such a high, beautiful note.

he Martial Arts and Entertainment industries have always been connected. You cannot have an action scene without martial arts, even in its simplest forms. Today, we met with Victor Migalchan, professional martial artist, martial arts promoter and sinologist, who shed some light on a few interesting, unknown details... 20 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY
WeGotYou Media: Good day, Victor. Thank you for coming to this interview. Victor Migalchan: Hello, thank you for having me. WGYM: Please tell us which martial arts do you specialize in and a few words about your accomplishments. VM: My main specialty is Tai Ji (Tai Chi), and my secondary specialty is southern styles of Chinese martial arts and, of course, Sanda. Sanda is a free
WGYM: You mentioned a term, “Wushu.” Here we use the term, “Kung Fu.” Why is there a difference in names? VM: Chinese Martial Arts is Wushu, not Kung Fu. Kung Fu means - a skill, which you master a long time and you achieve a high level. You put time and a lot of practice and you get a good skill, you become a master. Writers, actors, cooks, singers, artists - they all have Kung Fu when they work hard on their craft and aim to be the best. Wushu means martial art. In the west, these terms were a bit mixed up because of early ‘Kung Fu movies’ such as when Bruce Lee introduced Chinese Martial arts to the west through films. WGYM: How do you see the correlation between martial arts and entertainment? VM: They have many points of contact and, of course, they influenced each other. With support of the entertainment industry, Martial Arts became more popular, bringing a lot of uniqueness, beauty, and legends to
Our main goal is to defeat ourselves, our own fears and ‘black spot’ ...not defeating others entertainment. There are many sides of one thing; some are better, some are not. Martial Arts became more of an industry and business, hence it isn’t always taught in a traditional way. I’m a traditionalist and here, I speak only about classical Martial Arts; mainly Chinese Martial Arts. Wushu itself, thanks to films and movie stars as Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jackie Chan they became very popular and got this transformation into sports, and sports as we know isn’t that much about art, culture and education. Wushu always went together with education; we learn culture, history, philosophy, medicine and many other important things. Wushu as a sport doesn’t require this, however, at the same time, it is taught in a simplified way, hence there are many injuries. Luckily, I had wonderful teachers and they taught me about all these important details. I combined knowledge which I received from them and also wonderful European strength training specialists. I created a system which aims to prevent injuries, cure and help Martial Artists and athletes to develop.

I also work with Master Liu Yiding, Tai Chi Master and World Champion, of a younger generation. Master Hou Yousheng, is a traditional Tai Ji Master and winner of many tournaments...now he is a very successful actor in Hong Kong. I worked with Gogi Nebulana, World Champion from Indonesia. I was privileged to have cooperation with Beijing Sports University, learned from their teachers and also was invited to Jing Wu Association, the oldest athletic association in China. To me, when such people open their doors and their hearts - it is the most valuable gift and victory.
WGYM: You mentioned your teachers, who you obviously love and respect. Could you please tell us a few words about them? VM: Of course. My first Master is Mr. Zhou Lianjie, from Cangzhou City, Hebei Province. He is a traditional Wushu master, who got his knowledge from his grandfather. I was happy and privileged to become a student of Master He Jingde, who is a World Champion; Wu Ying (Wushu Hero)
WGYM: Now MMA is very popular. I believe you watched that famous fight between Conor McGregor and Khabib. Could you share with us your opinion on what happened? VM: Definitely. MMA is an interesting combination of Martial Arts. It is a pretty new competitive sport, I would say. It brings a very good and overall development for an athlete. Of course, a lot of things depend on coaching; only a coach can teach the student
WGYM: Earlier, you mentioned you also do Sanda, as a free fight. Did you compete in Sanda? VM: Yes, I competed in 2013 in New York City. It was an amazing experience and brought me a lot of development.
to be respectful, humble or aggressive. Since it is a competitive sport, the only goal is to win. Such goals influence the traditional way of development of martial artists. Our main goal is to defeat ourselves, our own fears and “black spots” ...not defeating others. What happened between Conor and Khabib, I believe first of all, it is a show. I wouldn’t want to offend anybody’s country, or religion, or family. I believe Conor was doing more than a show, rather that it was his real belief. He is a smart person, I understood that from his preparations and interviews. Khabib is from a very different culture, he is from Dagestan and they have a very strict culture and rules which I respect. Plus he was brought up by his father, former soviet military and athlete, hence it is another culture. In this culture mutual respect is number one, they are very serious and humble people. I will pay attention and it is very interesting for me to see how MMA, as a pretty new competitive sport, develops and I believe this fight and Khabib’s comments will change a lot. WGYM: Thank you Victor for this interview. We wish you best of luck in your career and hope to see more of your work on the screen and more students with champion medals. VM: Thank you for having me and for your kind wishes. Will do.

"My special thing is that I try to find the most important pieces in raw footage and create dramatic storytelling whether it's film or TV." mander said that in two weeks I had to learn everything to complete any form of editing from raw material to a polished, on-air TV-program. That was when I first realized that human capabilities are not limited.
Video editing, as the main stage of film post production, is not a less important part than the actual filming process. Video editors have a lot of responsibility in creating the final product. Today we had the pleasure to meet and interview Andrew Korotun, Ukrainian Award Winning Editor. He is well known in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Russia and CIS countries for his work on the show “Revizor”. 22 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY
Victor Migalchan: Hello, Andrew. Why did you decide to get involved in video editing? What attracted you and what was your first step? Andrew Korotun: Hello Victor. I decided to become a film editor when I served in the Ukrainian Military at the Ministry of Defence Central Television and Radio Studio. I learned this craft from the most prominent military journalists who served on several peace-making missions around the world. My first step and the most valuable lesson was when my Chief com-
VM: Which were your first projects as an already independent video editor?Which were your biggest projects as a video editor? AK: I’ve worked at the most popular TV-Channels in Ukraine and at the highest rated TV-projects. Now I`m working on very interesting projects in the US, so it’s hard to distinguish one of them. I’ve worked on one of the most popular reality TV-shows in Ukraine, “Revizor,” which gained international acclaim. “Revizor” also received two of the most prestigious TV-awards in Ukraine. I've done feature films, now I’m working on a socially important documentary project. I’ve already presented our documentary together with the director at the International forum in Kyiv, Ukraine. The President of Ukraine opened this forum. While I visited Ukraine this August one of the big Chinese production companies got in touch
with me and I edited their short film which emphises cultural differences. Nowdays I really like projects with social values in them. VM: Which projects influenced your professional and personal development? AK: All my projects added a little bit to my professional growth. From each of them I got something important. Now I understand how to create a brand new TV show from scratch, like Revizor, I know how to work with directors on the feature films, I know how to pick the best shots for storytelling in documentaries. VM: What is your special thing in editing? What makes you different? AK: My special thing is that I try to find the most important pieces in raw footage and create dramatic storytelling whether it's film or TV. For me, storytelling narrative is more important than visual. This leads to two consequences. First, I never try to squeeze all footage in the film. I prefer to cut everything that “doesn’t work.” Secondly, if I have, let’s say, 60 shots, it doesn’t mean that I have to use 20 or 30. Sometimes it can be 5. The length of the shot is important, and other details. Everything is in the details, but it always depends on the story first. I’ve received the two most significant awards in the Ukrainian TV industry. It is called “Teletriumph.” This award stimulates the development of the domestic TV industry and demonstrates the most important achievements in the field of television, and as a result, builds high standards of broadcasting in the territory of Ukraine. It is like an Emmy in America, and it is recognized in East European and CIS countries. VM: What projects are you working on now? HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY • 23
AK: I'm working on a documentary about the rehabilitation of Ukrainian paraplegic soldiers who were wounded in Eastern Ukraine. This project is of significant social value as hundreds of heavily injured soldiers returned from the war and they needed physical and psychological recovery. With our film, we try to build the bridge of collaboration in the field of military rehabilitation. Between the Ukraine and United States of America. I have more projects to come, but I can`t talk about them yet. VM: What would be your tips of success for video editors who begin their careers? AK: In order to succeed in video editing, every film editor must be tech-savvy and know editing craft. That includes the ability to work with as many non-linear systems of editing as possible, plus being able to add some visual effects in Photoshop and After Effects. Also beginning video editors have to learn basic sound mixing and color grading skills. In addition to that, all film editors must have strong story-telling skills. And work, work, work. VM: Thank you Andrew for the interview. We wish you the best of luck in your future projects and career development. Were looking forward to our future interviews. AK: Thank you for inviting me and I look forward to our future interviews, as well.

A Ceremony of Innocence Golden Globe Winner Joanna Cassidy Receives her Portrait by Allois at LA Fashion Week

adiantly beaming and manifestly delighted, Golden Globe winner Joanna Cassidy sat next to her newly revealed portrait, Ceremony of Innocence, a work painted by none other than Allois, the sensational surrealist who is wowing attendees at local and nationwide art exhibits. A glowing, gleeful Cassidy received the portrait at L.A. Fashion week in October in DTLA. Hollywood Weekly Magazine tagged along to enjoy the reveal and to have an in-depth conversation with Cassidy and Allois’ gallerist for the exhibit, Leo Feroleto. “It’s absolutely stunning,” Cassidy gushed. “I always look for Joanna Cassidy with her portrait “Joanna / Ceremony of Innocence” by Allois, photo by Barbara Burke

Cassidy’s engaging ethos and fashion sense truly impress when one first meets her and Allois’ amazing portrait captures the essence of her subject’s special spirit. “I always looks for the protectors in Allois’ works,” Cassidy said. “I am a cat person – I’m a Leo – Allois’ feline creatures serve as benefactor creatures, they protect you and they enhance the personality depicted in the artwork.” (L-R) Allois Artis, Leo Feroleto, and Joanna Cassidy attend Los Angeles Fashion Week Powered by Art Hearts Fashion LAFW SS/19- Day 3 at The Majestic Downtown on October 13, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. Like Cassidy is in real life, her portrait painted by Allois is hot! It’s alluring! It’s engaging and enticing. Yet, it is not merely superficial. Rather, it is somewhat mysterious, it is magical, it is deep, it is knowing, it is introspective, and, indeed, it is intellectual. “My portrait is set in a grand background and it looks like I am in my wedding.” Cassidy said. Allois chimed in, providing insights about the back story for the portrait. “The accompanying story tells a ceremonial story,” She said. “Joanna, you are clean and you are reborn.” Cassidy nodded, fully comprehending the depth of Allois’ message. “When you shed everything in your personality and your life, you need a protector.” Cassidy said. Allois explained the portrait’s composition more fully.
sistance of the piece – together, they merge to create a gorgeous, erotic, ethereal work that beckons a viewer to lean in, to learn more, and to reflect. After contemplating the beautiful portrait and the essence of the interesting colloquy, Exhibit Gallerist Feroleto chimed in. “As the gallerist, I am moved by Allois’ consistently moving pieces and their ability to integrate the real with the celestial.” He said. “I like that Allois integrates the concept that every human being has both male and female characteristics.” Cassidy noted. Allois nodded, clearly pleased that they perceived her subtle messages. “We need to balance the male and female,” Allois said. “My regular military creature sometimes needs a little feminism, perhaps a hint of pink.”
n my collection and it will be special to me forever" “The creature is a military cat with German roots and he has special head attire and a special uniform.” She said. Hollywood Weekly queried, “Why does the creature have little antennae for ears?” Cassidy smiled coyly and ventured a guess. “It’s from a lightning rod and it’s meant to communicate?” She asked, adding another insight. “Perhaps the creature is from another dimension and has protecting energy if something terrible were to happen – she is feminine – perhaps she is a shape shifter.” Allois smiled coyly in response. “In the painting, I am brave enough to venture in a naked state and perhaps the creature is playing music to accompany me.” Cassidy continued. As Allois stated “The subject of the portrait is headed either to her wedding or to her death.” She said. “Through this painting, you should discover your true self.”And then, Cassidy had an amazing insight. Focusing on the circular symbol in-set on the military creature’s uniform regalia, Cassidy presciently observed, “It is like a circle of life – it has the letter “C” and the symbol “C” stands for Cassidy as well as for ceremony.” Allois smiled, clearly thrilled that her subject was so discerning. The discussion turned to the overall composition of the portrait and Allois’ special techniques employed to add an aura of mystery to her works. “I love to use color and paint my subjects on special frames, often older frames that have been restored.” Allois said. All in attendance leaned in for a closer work of Cassidy’s portrait. The frame augments the portrait, the piece de re-
Cassidy was overwhelmed with the exquisite portrait, with its accompanying story and with the essence of the work’s message and meaning. She is excited to hang the work at her home, perhaps in juxtaposition to other Allois works in her collection. “The portrait fits perfectly in my collection and it will be special to me forever.” She said. Consistency Selling by Weldon Long | What experience in your life triggered you to write this book? In the years from 1987 to 2003, I spent 13 of those years in prison. In January of 2003, I was released to a halfway house, and despite having nothing in a material way, I had a fierce determination to change the course of my life. When I was released I had a ten year-old son I only knew through letters and the occasional prison visit. I was driven by the desire to become the father he deserved. After six months of getting countless rejections, I got a job as a salesman in a small heating and air conditioning company. In my first month I sold $149,000 and earned over $13,000 in commissions. Over the following five years I opened my own company and grew that to Inc 5000 status in sixty months. I owe my life and prosperity to the sales industry, for it was the sales industry that picked me up, dusted me off and gave me a real shot at wealth and prosperity. How could I not write a book about the lessons that changed my life? How could I not share the information with others who are not experiencing the success they deserve? Maybe there is some other mother or father out there with a kid they need to support. What is the singular most important message you want the reader to come away with? “Yes" is best, but “No" is a perfectly acceptable answer. In the sales profession you are going to get plenty of “No’s”. But the “No’s” won’t kill you. It’s the “I don’t knows” and the “I’ll call you backs” that will destroy your career and your income-earning potential. The key to transformational success in sales is getting your prospect to make a final decision about you and your products or services with you still engaged with them. If you can get them to make a final decision with you on the phone or face to face the answer is far more likely to be “Yes.” People don’t like to say “No” to your face. They like to say “No” by not returning your calls or emails. Don’t let them get away with that. Take your best shot and get a final decision even if that final decision is a “No.” action in your life. I am Yours by Reema Zaman | What was the pivotal moment in your life that propelled you to raise your voice to be heard? I believe that to speak is a revolution, and this can manifest in various ways. The most definitivemoment was a quiet one that transpired within myself, because it set and reinforced the foundation for every other moment: When I was 23, I was raped, and my inner voice had to rise up and speak clearly and loudly enough to override the chaos, loneliness, confusion, and trauma circling my mind. It was the kind of speaking up that happens within. It was a quiet revolution, my inner voice stoically refusing to let me die, deciding that not only would I survive, I would use my story to become a conduit of healing, love, empowerment, and justice for others. What is the one small action women can take to free themselves from being silenced? The voice is a muscle. The more you use it, the more time, care, love, and respect you give it, the stronger it will grow. If speaking up publicly or speaking back to a person in your life feels too daunting, begin by voicing your truth on paper. Using a journal, laptop, or cell phone, give your voice the space to speak. By giving your voice the permission and a safe space to speak, you’ll exercise this muscle. Soon enough, your words and thoughts will become more clear, precise, and articulate, you’ll gain deeper knowledge of yourself, your life, the characters in it, and the change you desire, and this will fill you with the necessary confidence to take bigger

The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan What inspired you to write this book? The ONE Thing came to life in 2008. Gary and I were working on a class and he took it home for the weekend to write an introduction. The “Pretty Little Liars” star talks about her role as a sports attorney in “Tiger”
Janel Parrish By Alex A. Kecskes 34 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY
K
nown for her role as Mona Vanderwaal in “Pretty Little Liars,” Hawaiian born Janel Parrish won four Teen Choice Awards for her performance in that series. At age 6, she began piano lessons, and within a year was also studying acting, singing, tap dance and jazz dance. Parrish began her acting career in 1996 with the role of Young Cosette in "Les Misérables," first performing in the U.S. national tour and then transferring to the Broadway production. She later guest starred in various television series before landing her breakthrough role as Jade in “Bratz.” She subsequently competed in Dancing with the Stars and released her first single as a singer-songwriter in 2007. In “Tiger,” Parrish is Charlotte, an attorney representing Pardeep Nagra, a practicing Sikh who was banned by the boxing commission for refusing to back down from his religious beliefs. Hollywood Weekly: Thank you for taking the time for this interview. What drew you to the role of Charlotte? Janel Parrish: I read it during a flight to L.A. and was so moved by Pardeep’s passion and the fact that it was a true story that needed to be told. It was just so inspiring about this man who stood up to the system and for his rights, saying this is unfair. He just never gives up. As for Charlotte’s story, I love that she changes when she hears Pardeep’s story. She starts out a bit hardened and you get the feeling that she’s had a tough upbringing. His passion and his strength soften her and bring out a different side of her. And toward the end of the film, it becomes not just his fight but her fight for him and for herself. I loved playing with that transition. HW: Did you audition for the role? If so, what was that like? Parrish: I did not. They sent me the script and asked
me to read it. They said if I like this character, would I be willing to fly in during the next couple of days and film with them in Ohio. So I read the script, loved it and when I got back to L.A., I called them and said, when do I need to be in Ohio? HW: You play a sports attorney in this film. Did you have to catch up on all the jargon used by lawyers and boxing? Parrish: I had to Google Charlotte’s every word (laughs). I looked things up in the encyclopedia and practiced the enunciation a million times so I would sound like I knew what I was doing. In my real life, all this stuff just goes over of my head. So hopefully, I pulled it off. But it didn’t come without a lot of practice. HW: This film speaks to a number of issues. What do you see as its core message? Parrish: I think the core message is that everyone has a right to their religious beliefs. No matter your religion or sexual preference or whatever you strongly believe in, you have a right to fight for what you believe. And Pardeep never gives up against all odds. He fought against discrimination and being told that you can’t practice your religion. HW: What was the one aspect of this film that challenged you as an actor? Parrish: I would say the lawyer jargon. It was a challenge for me because I wanted to make sure I did that justice, that my performance was believable in the courtroom. But on further thought, I would say the biggest challenge was making sure that I really got across to the audience just how much Pardeep’s story inspired and changed Charlotte. HW: How are you like Charlotte and how are you different?

Parrish: I think I’m like Charlotte in her fierceness. She’s feisty and she’s not afraid to say what she’s thinking. She has a soft vulnerable side that she brings out. How am I not like her? Well, she’s a really smart cookie and I can’t say I’m as smart as she is. “I would love to do a musical film, where I can sing, dance and act. That would be just a dream for me.” HW: You cut your first single as a singer/songwriter and competed in Dancing with the Stars. Is there a part of you that yearns to be in a dance film like “Step Up” or a musical like “La La Land”? Parrish: Yes. That is absolutely a major goal I’ve set for my self. I would love to do a musical film, where I can sing, dance and act. That would be just a dream for me. Musical theater is the first thing I ever did, my first love and it still is. Whenever I’m not doing TV or film, I go back to the stage. I just finished a run in Toronto at the Wintergarden where I played Sandy in “Grease.” It was amazing and something I never thought I could do as an American actor. I never thought anyone would see me as Sandy. But this is 2018, so why can’t I be Sandy? It just shows that things are changing for the better. That six-month run was so much fun. I go back to the stage whenever I can. So if I can combine my true love of stage and film, I’d be very, very happy. HW: What do you like about being in “Pretty Little Liars”? Parrish: It’s such a fun world to be a part of. It’s dramatic and juicy and sexy and fun. You get to wear all these amazing clothes. It’s like living in a guilty pleasure every single day. I’ve been a part of that family for almost ten years now. HW: You’ve done films, TV, stage work. What’s next for you? Parrish: I would love to do a musical film. That’s definitely on my radar. I would also love to go back to Broadway and do a musical there. We’re currently filming our first season of the spinoff, “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” which will air early next year.

This is an approach from which many in the health community could benefit. Today, more than 110 million Americans live daily with some form of chronic pain. For many years, Dr. Leal was one of those Americans. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 23, she completed her medical school and residency in a motorized yellow scooter. Wanting something more than what traditional medicine had to offer, she began a lifelong journey of education and looking outside the box…hence her relationship with EarthWater. Dr. Leal regularly advocates for alternative methods of treatment for patients who suffer from chronic pain and other debilitating ailments. In her own words, "I share with patients that when it comes to healing, hydration is critical. EarthWater is a functional water that contributes to the body’s own natural healing properties by creating an alkaline environment which chemically balances the body, reduces inflammation and assists the immune system with its electrolytes and 70 plus trace minerals.” As a result, Dr. Leal incorporates EarthWater as a tool for her patients who struggle with hydration, a key building block of health. Understanding the importance of the body’s natural ability to regenerate, Dr. Leal also uses EarthWater prior to every stem cell therapy aiding the patient’s body in its ability to regenerate, rebuild and repair. Dr. Leal has found a more integrative and holistic approach to health prevents overuse of unneeded medications and procedures. Hydration is a key component to recover from injury, trauma and pain. She says, “It's really exciting to see the changes I've gone through and share them with my family, friends and patients." I asked her how her patients respond when she first recommends EarthWater to them. “Initially, they give me a curious look and then inevitably ask me why it is black. Then they taste it and it tastes just like water, only better.” Then she reminds them, “you drink coffee and soda that are black, so why wouldn’t you drink a better water that can help heal your body?” For anyone who has ever tasted EarthWater, it is obvious how this product can be life-changing to one's diet. How would you recommend it to someone who isn't as familiar with the benefits? In the words of Dr. Leal “It’s simple, start with two bottles a day and notice how much better you focus and how much better you feel. We use regenerative therapies which allow the body to unleash its full potential and having the right tools are critical for patient results…EarthWater is one of those tools." info@earthwater.com @earthwaterhq for social media www.earthwater.com 38 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY

In 1981 Dr. C. Dr. Kristy Van Kirk The Most Passionate Doctor I Have Ever Met Former beauty queen Dr. Kristy Van Kirk has a well-established medical reputation in her hometown of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and is continuing to expand the services she can offer her patients. After graduating from the University of Wyoming she attended the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, where she was selected to be Chief Resident. Returning to her hometown, Van Kirk began her practice at the Cheyenne Woman’s Clinic, dedicated to assisting women at various stages of their lives, whether it be pregnancy, advising on surgery or helping with graceful aging. “I feel it’s important to relate to my patients on an emotional, as well
as a clinical level,” Van Kirk says, “being supportive and teaching them how to listen to their bodies, to be in tune with it, and able to heal themselves is key to me. My work in OB/GYN also taught me about the mind/body relationship. Making the right lifestyle choices, optimizing one’s health for the best possible outcome through exercise, diet, sleep and stress control are all important factors in a woman’s health.” 2019 promises to be a big year for Van Kirk, with plans for an alternative therapy clinic near the Woman’s Clinic, in Cheyenne, WY, which is near the world famous Lodge & Spa at Brush Creek Ranch, a convenient stop for people traveling from the Denver International Airport to Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, WY. “As I continue my education and research I see an opportunity to combine the strengths of traditional medical treatments and pharmaceuticals with other health and wellness therapies,” Van Kirk explains. “I’ve also recently joined the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and will be offering hormone therapies, nutritional plans and other integrative resources to my patients as part of an overall health program. In my view, health is either a ‘pay now or pay later’ proposition. My business logo is a Tree of Life with a DNA base, representing the lifestyle we choose to lead through nutrition, exercise, stress management, relationships, spirituality, love (of self and others), gratitude, supplements, sleep, work, environment, nature exposure, and so many other things that nurture our Tree of Life to flourish.” Tel: 307-823-2968 / Dr. Kristy Van Kirk
Dr. Donald Zone Single Handedly Changing How We Look at Health on a Biochemical Level Through Education From Cardiology to an Anti-Aging Zone For many years Dr. Donald Zone had a prominent career as a cardiologist in Erie, PA, treating heart disease congenital heart defects, rhythm disorders and heart failure. “If you had a heart attack and they wheeled you in through the emergency room doors, I was the person you saw waiting for you,” Dr. Zone says. Early in his career Dr. Zone had an epiphany while attending Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where he observed advanced medical techniques like angioplasty that inspired Dr. Zone in his approach to heart health, and even encouraged him to explore more preventative therapies as he retired from cardiology. “It’s was just fascinating to see how far the technology had come and over the years I was able to see the tremendous explosion of medical knowledge, but now my mission is more of an educational one, hoping to let people know they can take responsibility, through lifestyle choices, for their own health,” Dr. Zone says. “Things like diet, stress reduction techniques like meditation and exercise are so important from an
early age, to maintaining healthy cellular activity and therefore overall health. That was the other explosion I’ve been able to witness more recently, the emphasis on biochemistry and the understanding of disease at the metabolic level and the workings of RNA and DNA. All of those things contribute to who we are and what our health is likely to be.” In addition to training other doctors in ways to help prevent hear disease, Dr. Zone has embarked on a program called “Heart Healthy Today” that involves a blog with lots of preventative lifestyle information and a book by the same title. “The field of heart health has come such a long way over my career, and now people have access to many advanced procedures and the pharmaceuticals that can help maintain cardiovascular health, but what we can do for ourselves can also be equally effective, especially in the long term, for maintaining heart health. It’s a very simple principle, and in short, I refer to this health advice as ‘starting on the inside’. By offering this information and the book, it’s my attempt at providing what I consider to be a modern day house call.” h t t p : / / w w w. H e a r t H e a l t h To d a y. com

Artist The Imaginative World & Wonder of Simo Liu: A Millennial Artist
By Anthony Ewart
Millennials have changed our World. No one can deny that. Their businesses and technological inventions, their styles and fashions, their economic strength as a demographic cohort are on course to overtake the famed Baby Boomers. These are all important statistics -- but what is the most important aspect of Millennials? What truly distinguishes Millennials from Generation X or Baby Boomers? The answer is social and global awareness. Millennials "care." This is a demographic who care about recycling and biodegradable products, the environment, the rainforest, the ocean, the ozone, global warming, the extinction of animals and insects through human interference. They actually care enough to make financial choices and decisions based on the attitude, beliefs and "intentions" of the product manufacturer. If you care about the Planet, you have their vote of confidence and their business.
sense of "Wonder." Anything is possible in this new world where Science and Mathematics and Art actually influence each other -- and for Simo, sometimes her Art merges and blends the lines between these genres. Geometry is the first visual-music/animated film Simo made. It is glorious narrative story telling and character-based animation. Geometry shows a red ball’s journey though a geometric abstract world, which uses images and motion to present the music visually. Simo describes the experience of watching Geometry this way: "People use their ears to listen music, but with 'Geometry,' people can 'watch' the music through my film!" Geometry is inspired by Oskar Fischinger's visual music pieces, especially his work on Disney's “Fantasia,” as well as John Whitney’s motion graphics pieces.
Geometry won the Best Animation of Los Angeles Film Awards in 2018, Best Experimental Short of Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Award in 2018, as well as many So, what would a true Millennial Artist be like? other major film festivals and awards. But what are Simo Liu's "intentions" as an Artist. Remember, Millennials are all about the "backstory." As successful as Simo has been in her career as an Artist, it hasn't shifted her focus on how she perceives art. The true function of Simo's journey as an Artist. It might not surprise you to learn that, through her art, Simo is pursuing peace, aesthetic freedom, happiness, and most interestingly, "healing." Her art is a medium to create a visceral response in viewers, allowing themselves to escape vicariously through the imaginative worlds she creates. In this space of wonder, excitement, intense beauty and escapism, a connection is made that enables personal growth and healing through entertainment.
production companies -- the two are not mutually exclusive. Simo worked at ILLUMINATION from 2013 to 2016 as a Motion Graphics Designer and Illustrator. She was part of the marketing team for the "Minions" movie. For someone who wanted a job bringing happiness and joy to people, the "Minions" was the perfect project and experience for Simo.
Now, as a professional Artist, Simo has taken this attitude of 'connecting" with audiences through animation to an Award-Winning level. Simo is an Artist with something to say. Surrealism has become her preferred form of expression. In her Animated Short Illogical, Simo turns the world upside down; once again, reinforcing that sense of wonder when you finally look at things in a Like Maurice Sendak ("Where The Wild Things Are"), different way. Outside the fishbowl, real fish swim around the cat -- in fantasy. Simo's Animated Short Fireflies is a perfect example of "cathartic storytelling." A young girl wearing a the air! A woman looks in a full-length mirror and watches red hat equipped with long, red bunny ears travels down as her reflection takes on a life of its own. These are just a winding river on the back of a whale. She floats through two images from this fantastic short film. When it comes to surrealism, Simo is probably more Rene Magritte than a magical land of giant fireflies, tall violet mushrooms, swirling mountains and waves and giant Salvador Dali, but the goal is the same: inspire thought bunnies. The young girl, whose name is MoMo (Simo's and conversation through images that challenge left and alter ego), finally emerges victoriously, now riding a right brain comprehension and understanding. magical fish of rainbow colors, which seems to be taking her into the upper atmosphere. She became a fan of Tim Burton's art, and his stars and planets, and innocence and wonder. Happy stop-motion, animated film "The Nightmare Before Christmas," as well as the animated films of PIXAR. Simo became interested in expressing "feelings" through art. Simo's mother, who taught Literature her entire life, retired and begun painting. Change begins at home, and Simo's brave Artistic career in America has clearly had a ripple effect in her family. Art brings people/families/ friends together. Simo is currently considering creating a children's book. Needless to say, with her artistic integrity and talent combined with her commitment to bring happiness and joy to this world, her children's book (or books), should do very well. My last example of Simo's work comes from Simo herself. Here she describes her brilliant Animated Short Equipoise:
the Chinese elements of Yin and Yang, the two opposing principles in nature. The former feminine and negative, and the latter masculine and positive. The two principles are opposite but also unitive. Yin and Yang could be birth and death, male and female, or creation and destruction. In Equipoise, I used male and female, and creation and destruction, the two Yin and Yang elements to show their relationship to the unity of opposites." pon meeting Senior Senator (ret) Pasqual Bettio FRPS, one wonders what planet he came from. Was it from planet Krypton? Does he have his own galaxy? But of course, he has created the WONDERFUL world of Artography and so much more. According to his mentor, Lord Jeffrey Kruger who bestowed him a fellowship from the Royal Photography Society of England, "art in photography is artography", a marriage between photography and painting. He studied photography at Brooks. His artography one man show was exhibited at the California Museum of Science. As an original member of his Sharing Friends of the Arts I have witnessed his creative world for many decades. Sallie Blair introduced him to me years ago at his Museum on Sunset Blvd. Sallie was a renowned singer who performed at Radio City music hall in New York. People like Marilyn Monroe were clamoring to see her. She also appeared at the London Palladium, Copa Cabana, on screen and more. One of her greatest gifts to me and others was Pasqual. He introduced me to Joe Cassini, choreographer for Cher, Tom Jones, and others including his dance partner Ann Margaret who also danced with Elvis Presley in a film. Joe became part of Pasqual's world when he choreographed the Strutwearable Art stage show at the Roxy theatre. Baroness Ebba Rosenblad had a favorite outfit she often wore in his shows. I also have worn some at various special events including the Rose Variety Arts Show for The Rose Breast Cancer Society. Those Strutwearable Art creations by Pasqual were the stars of the shows. They consist of shredded leather, hand painted garments including hats of all sizes embellished with feathers, mirrors, beads, reminiscent of garments in the film, "Juliet of the Spirits" by Federico Fellini with ethereal music by Nino Rota. When one thinks of Pasqual one thinks of Fellini, Jackson Pollock. Simon 46 • HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY

Rodia built the Watts Towers of what others might mistake for trash. Seashells, broken dishes, tiles, pebbles, broken brown and green bottles are all seen as treasures. The tallest tower reached the height of 110 feet. Although Pasqual was an accomplished figure skater and linked to a famous Japanese ball room dancer ,skater, fashion , jewelry designer, Ever Miyama he continues to pour his passion into creating more art which is his life. He sees through the eyes of a child, enjoying every facet of existence. Sometimes his life is like being on a Ferris wheel, or roller coaster always seeking the exciting, sometimes dramatic which charges his batteries. His magnetic personality and art has attracted adoring fans. When I first met him he was wearing a long brown robe and appeared to be a wizard. Perhaps he is. He has created the improbable and sometimes the impossible. His private museum in various locations included Hollywood Hills and former Nation bank building where his life's art collection of 50 years had a home under the tutelage of Kavon who was the wind beneath his wings several years. "Pasqualized" painted furniture including large chairs from Judge Maxine Thomas, a piano with strings of glass objects and tiny twinkle lights, mural sized wall hangings with splattered paint reminiscent of Jackson Pollock, a carnival horse, a huge Hollywood head as well as Hollywood Head assemblage sculptures composed of many items owned by Hollywood stars, a hotdog stand with revolving objects including a large fake thumb instead of hotdogs, mannequins which wore Strutwearable Art, hats of all kinds, chairs and art covered in shredded leather, massive spheres covered with crystals covered the entire second floor and basement where a black room in the vault held a long dining table with candelabra with a ceiling covered in his large photographs including one of his friend Rip Taylor, the comedian noted for his grand entrance of throwing confetti at the audience. I invited four time Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient, Margaret O' Brien and President of the Southern California Motion Picture Council, Lord Randal Malone, Nyla Arslanian, Robert Carl Cohen and others to view his collection. Margaret O' Brien and Lord Randal Malone marveled throughout the tour. Since the Hollywood Heads had their own room Randal remarked that they must have had great conversations at night. Those Hollywood Heads were on stage at the Hollywood Women's Club of which Margaret
O' Brien was a member years ago, and were the back ground for the Celebration of Life for the Honorary Mayor of Hollywood, Johnny Grant whose name now is a street in Hollywood. He attended many Charlie Awards produced by the Hollywood Arts Council which were steered by former President Nyla Arslanian, Oscar Arslanian, John O. Adams both former Presidents of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President Nancy Brown, and trustee of several years, James Pasqual Bettio FRPS. To their credit they are largely responsible for the new architectural face of Hollywood. The ARTery USA was co-founded by Pasqual with Debora Gillman and has recently collaborated with The Rose Breast Cancer Society to create a mural , "Gardens of Life", in the alley behind the buildings on Washington Blvd in the Mid City. He has dubbed the entire project Alley-Art-ography which he wants to expand. Noted artist Katherine Arion has kicked off the project with her panel of florals. Many children and adults in the neighborhood have expressed appreciation. Being a fine artist and former L.A. Unified School District art educator of many years, I have recently added my hand to the project. Scientific research has proven that enjoying art raises the endorphins, "happy" hormones which contributes to well being. Pasqual has been invited by Penn Penn of the Philippines to chair the Poetry Festival 2020. He recently received the American Eagle Award at the Arts for Peace Awards produced by Munni Irone in association with Samira Kazemenni , Princess Ginija and Sharon Doyle at the Saban Theatre, Beverly Hills. He was honored in the company of royalty, dignitaries from 52 countries and celebrities such as our dear friend 2 time Oscar nominated Carol Connors who also was honored with an award. His current aspirations include an Artography Kit, Keith Conley's Can Do Kids educational program, continued tv series, "Pasqual's Eye on the Arts" produced by his dear friend Tom Porter. He wishes to acknowledge Judy Rozner , editor of Eye on the Arts magazine, collector Robyn Evans Jones , Mickey Jones, David Kroft, Ivor Pyres, Cantor Estherleon Schwartz, members of Sharing Friends of the Arts, Mark Rowe of England, Eric Zuley, Jim Zuley . Michael Goodman of the MRG Art Gallery which exhibited his art, and many more including family and friends. HOLLYWOOD MONTHLY• 47

And for those of us who were blessed to know him as a friend and work with him, it hurts so deeply. He made so many of our careers possible.
