A LETTER From
The Editor
PUBLISHER/EDITOR IN CHIEF Prather Jackson VICE PRESIDENT Bernice Harris Michael D. Coxson
As summer transitions into fall, the changing season brings the addition of a slight chill that has awakened my senses. I have come to appreciate this time of year, as I embark on my morning ritual which consist of walks around my neighborhood.
OPERATIONS Erskine D. McSwain (1991-2000)
To my amazement, my exercise routine now totals nearly 800 consecutive days. These daily walks, although modest in duration, have blessed me with a certain clarity of thought.
FASHION EDITOR Jacob (For The Stars Fashion House)
I realize the beauty in being in the moment. Each step represents a space in time that you can’t regain. As you get older, time seems to move more quickly. I have managed to make the quick cadence of the clock set a new standard, and it has helped me establish my rhythm of life, which ties in beautifully with this month’s special Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival edition. You see, we have two new and wonderful sponsors. Nehita Inc, and Banneker Watches. Monalisa Okojie, the CEO of Nehita, Inc., is known worldwide as a philanthropist, a jewelry/fashion designer and an African Princess. But it’s her jewelry that compliments the star power of many celebrities that you see on the Red Carpet. We are proud to honor Ms. Okojie with Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival’s Humanitarian Award for 2015. And speaking of time, we are honored to introduce Banneker Watches. The story of Benjamin Banneker begins in the 17th Century, and continue today thanks to Mr. Derrick Holmes. For more than 10 years, passion has driven Banneker Watches CEO Derrick Holmes to deliver classic timepieces and share the story of pioneering African American clockmaker and scientist Benjamin Banneker. And finally I wish to acknowledge Egor Efiok, Lilian Amah, Greg Odutayo, and His Excellency, Akinwunmi Ambode, Executive Governor of Lagos State, Nigeria. We hope you enjoy the 2nd Annual Hollywood Weekly Film Festival and wish to thank each of the film makers and sponsors who contributed to this year’s event. Best wishes,
Prather Jackon Prather Jackson

We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that one of our four Nollywood stars from our very first cover of Nollywood three years ago (see image below) and our first collaboration with E4PR, Joseph Benjamin, plays the male lead role in “Beyond Blood”. We loved his acting and continue to wish him success in his career. Our excitement was further piqued when we learned that His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, was bringing with him, Nollywood Director and now Lagos State House Of Assembly Honourable, Desmond Elliott. Desmond was also one of the four Nollywood actors that we featured on that same cover and it was a pleasure to finally meet him in person. BRIEF OUTLINE AND SYNOPSIS OF BEYOND BLOOD – A Greg Odutayo Film.
“Beyond Blood”, a Greg Odutayo film, a collaboration between Royal Roots Nigeria and the Script Kompany UK, is a story about Moji, a young Oxford educated woman with a passion for social justice and equality. Her privileged background contrasts sharply with the desperate conditions of the prostitutes, drug-addicts and their children she cares for at ‘The Mansion’ – a centre she funds privately much to the disapproval of some in her social circle including her family. “Beyond Blood” is a story of discovery. An uninflected series of scenes or moments that take us on a journey of how a woman and our central character, Moji, rediscovers herself. Moji is faced with a series of situations far beyond her control. Rather than confront the situation, she decides to “run” away to London in the hope that in her search for her brother, she will rediscover him and herself and have the time to think through her life and make those life-changing decisions that will put her on the path of confrontation of the society in which she finds herself. However, things are not always what they seem. Moji discovers a new view of life. Laying bare her life to Akin Pedro in London who “offers” to help her find her brother opens her to a whole new possibility. Akin Pedro encourages Moji to stand up and fight for her beliefs. She does and realizes that Akin himself is one of the issues she has to confront and deal with. Beyond Blood is a story of love, betrayal, hope and a desire to make a positive change in society irrespective of personal trials and tribulations. “Beyond Blood” shot in English, Pidgin, French and Yoruba language and subtitles with locations in Lagos
Nigeria, London UK, it is a story that chronicles the ills in our society and the world - prostitution, drug addiction, AIDS, homosexuality, Eastern European trafficking gangs and a culture that legitimizes tyranny and injustice especially of women trapped in the vagrancies of culture and tradition. These are themes that are afflicting the world generally now and our film will further call attention to these issues. We told a simple story. One, which does not aim to change the world or its preoccupations, rather, one that takes the audience on a journey, all the while respecting and honoring their decision to watch this particular film in a world filled with other choices. A beautiful story of love that begs the question “can love truly conquer all”. Maybe and maybe not. It depends on the window through which you view the world. Moji or Akin or Benjy. Welcome to the world of “Beyond Blood”.

My passion about The stage and acting in general was born in a childhood dream, until I realized that this is where I am home. It can be anywhere on earth as long as there is a character, an ensemble, lights/darkness and a common passion leading to a great work of confessions. The idea for the trailer came after Fredric joined with his new manager Maria Vascsak at at the (Maria Vascsak Agency). One of her writers Nina Larsotter was working on her idea for a Novel called Red Card which she planned to release sometime in 2016 which inspired Fredric to write the trailer synopsis together with writing partner Dafvid Skoogh. Fredric and Maria decided on casting Lead actor, Viktor Åkerblom who is also a part of Maira’s agency, and was a natural and obvious choice to carry this project. His uncanny ability to transcend from one character to another made him the perfect fit for this role, and he is sure to pick up some new fans after this performance.

Following that, Reshew went on to produce and direct “Rosenberg”, a “Dramedy” that had its international premier in Beijing, China at the EUFF in 2014 and was most recently picked up by Indieflix and Direct TV for worldwide distribution. It’s an extremely interesting culture film about an Expat and his experiences living in a foreign land dealing with childhood issues that was a massive hit with expats and the European Jewish community. It’s well known that some of the best film directors came from a still photography background. Fredric Keith Reshew found early inspiration from Stanley Kubrick and Michelangelo Antonioni and took the path from initially working as an internationally recognized American photographer to becoming a screenwriter, film producer and award winning director. Compared to your prior work Fredric, what was different with RED CARD?
“My writing partners and I are looking forward to the challenge of busting out a sexy and fun exciting script. We see the Area of Sports Crime drama as huge area uncharted and looking at many
options of financing
at this point.” I knew I could add a visually appealing approach that would leave – Director Fredric Keith Reshew a lasting impression. I got very excited and even more passionate after meeting some of the actors involved, especially lead actor Viktor Åkerblom, who reminded me of a young Sean Penn. That comparison is spot on. Viktor, a well known actor in Europe, started his career standing on stage at the early age of 13, and has since amassed a very strong resume that includes everything from film and TV work to theater. “To be honest, I don’t miss the stage all that much. I don’t really care about what people say and I think that too much prestige can be a real killer of creativity” –– Actor Viktor Åkerblom
For the past three years he has focused solely on his film career. After blazing a path through the local theatre scene in Stockholm Viktor is more than ready to forge ahead with his film career. “To be honest, I don’t miss the stage all that much. I don’t really care about what people say and I think that too much prestige can be a real killer of creativity” Viktor says. Taking nothing in his career for granted Viktor is most definitely a very hard worker and dedicated to his craft. He also has big dreams of sitting in the director’s chair one day. Being a bit more picky of his roles and discussing them with Maria about the right steps to take is key for him
now. Viktor mentions the saying ”beggers can’t be choosers”, but in a way I think you have to be in order to be proud of what you do. But as an actor your choices are very often limited. That’s why I like writing my own stories as well. Tell us about Red Card, Viktor, and why you signed on? It was a no brainer for me since my manager, Maria Vascsak, stood behind it and brought on board Director Fredric Keith Reshew. It was a lot of fun to be a part of this cast and I’m really looking forward to seeing the feature screenplay. What does the future hold for you, Viktor? I will be in LA for a month or so later this year to meet with agents and casting directors that have expressed interest in me. I’m super excited to get back to the L.A. Lifestyle. Especially during our very cold winter months back in Stockholm. Bring on that sun baby! So Fredric, in closing, what do you see in the future for RED CARD? At this point I’m in the middle of doing research to make Red Card into a feature. My writing partners and I are looking forward to the challenge of busting out a sexy and fun exciting script. We see the Area of Sports Crime drama as huge area uncharted and looking at many options of financing at this point.

In the summer of 2015, I gained a new experience in my entertainment career – I met an incredible jewelry designer, who involved me in the wonderful world of art! Elvira Petri is an amazingly unique designer with a special expression and a fabulous taste, imagination and creativity! We were introduced at one of the fashion events and after collaborating with Elvira for some time she offered me to be an official cover face for her brand’s jewelry collection “L’Petri Design” (www.ElvPetriDesign. com). I felt very blessed to be a part of a beautiful art project and a magnificent team of professionals. I had worked with 838 Media Group, owned by the incredible photographer Ash Gupta, an extraordinary makeup artist Inara Lopetite, the fabulous fashion designer and stylist Xavier Othon, and the talented photographer Greta Tuckute. It was a great experience for me and an amazing result of our teamwork, which produced beautiful pictures of me wearing masterpieces by “L’Petry Design”! I am so glad to be a cover face model for their incredible jewelry collection! I also was involved in several movies as a background actress, which was a great experience and left me with unforgettable feelings. Especially when I participated in the film about the Holocaust “There Is many like us” (directed by Josh A. Webber) with Eric Roberts in the video production set.
