he spa and treatment centre requires very delicate attention to achieve that effect to relax the mind, body and soul. Setting for this sensory business needs to ‘touch’ the five senses in asubconscious manner when the customer processes through this ritual. Designers at Artrend Design was sensitive to this need, and therefore composed Kenko’s shop with uncompromised plan layout, textured materiality, colours and lighting effect. As one enters the door, the unsolicited welcoming feeling engages the customer immediately. Artrend chose a naturalistic setting of timber finishing to create that holistic sense of calm. The warm lighting effect was adequately chosen as a brighter transition space from the mall to the private internal domain. Adjourning towards the changing room, the corridor slowly subdues in lighting level with floor scattered lamps that illuminate the pathway to relaxation. The washing and changing roomopens to the water feature fish spa pond that creates that tranquil melody of trickling water. Darkened treatment rooms were sympathetically designed with deep grey ceiling colour, spotted with dim spotlights. The rich hues of warm woody texture is enhanced with wallwashing cove lights to illuminate the natural setting. Matching furniture in lush fabric brown ensures that uncompromising tactile comfort. So that finally as you proceed back to the locker room waterfeature area, you can be sure that flow of healthy chi will have you looking forward to the next visit.

here is plenty of room to go around in this house. Here, there is no need to compete for space, just open spaces and the generous flow of natural light that envelops the interior with much warmth. The colour scheme is kept crisp and clean; the result is an immaculate interior where modern sensibility ensues. The overall design direction leans towards a minimalistic look – this contributes to the air of collected calm in the space. Amid a gradation of brown and beige hues, a zing of black found on the banisters of a flight of steps makes a strong statement – one that claims to be the backbone of the space. The use of a reigning white may make the space seem unadorned, but it really lends an unspoiled palette for timeless designs to take precedence. This way, the design does not come across as busy, but is rather easy on the eyes. Here, there appears to be little need for accessorising; the space seems to speak for itself with understated pieces that command visual importance nevertheless. Between dining and kitchen, the designer cleverly remodels the space by relocating the existing kitchen to the back where the walls are removed to facilitate an open concept kitchen hence

bringing generous amounts of daylight to both spaces. The previous kitchen was then converted into a multi-purpose study and work area. Glass doors are used where possible, so that a heightened sense of interconnectivity is achieved. The interior immediately opens up, fostering the fluidity of light and space, as well as facilitating ventilationthroughout. Visually, the dining, living, and kitchen areas are divided with different flooring. This interchange of elements loads the space with textural depth – the mix wellcalibrated to add interest. This kitchen therefore breathes an air of modernity with the choice of pristine white and a spectrum of lights awashing the space with a muted glow. Recessed lightings beneath the cabinets create the visual impression of weightlessness. The overall effect is modish and striking. Upstairs, the designs of the children’s bedrooms are interpreted differently. Tailored to cater to the young, the bedrooms boost lovely purple and blue hues that are pleasing on the eyes. Here, bold stripes distract the eye from the true proportion of the room, creating a space that appears broader than it really is. Here, the designer was very conscious to provide value in their design decisions. Hence, smart cost planning on impactful effects with cost effective materials such as wall coverings in the bedrooms and wall painting patterns were able to create that visual interest to an otherwise simplespace.

rafting the living room and dining room to embrace the view of the adjacent, brings that flow of positive energy throughout the house. Using simple white and black colour tones in the furniture and fittings, the designer respectfully chooses to highlight the beauty of the animated water feature and lush landscaping, inviting nature into the indoor spaces. Using thoughtful design details within this clean white appeal, the designer fashioned subtle graphics of mosaic shelving and mirror wall feature to add interest and practicality in this living area. Such a strategy continues upstairs into the confines of study area and bedrooms. Finally, in reaching the family area which opens to the adjoining sky terrace, the confines of the indoor space to the outdoor sky terrace is blurred with fully foldable sliding doors. The interior backlit wall feature where the entertainment system is neatly mounted on, speaks an understated modern design that embraces generous amount of daylight and ventilation to this entertainment space. This strategy is well-executed in the living room where the side wall of the timber staircase speaks a fun mosaic painted wall finish. This effect provides a cozy scale at the dining area. Contrasting this is a bright red arm chair and foot rest which quickly draws the viewer to relax onit, engaging him or her to this spacious living room. ike most newly constructed apartments, spaces can be rather confined to accommodate the minimum standards that meets expectations of homeowners. Unity Interiors however managed to achieve that high-end condominium appeal through sensible strategies. As one enters the living room and dining area, the atmosphere of designer plush comfort can be felt. The designer cladded the walls throughout the entire house with patterned wallpaper to create that visual richness in the various spaces. In the living room, a dark grey timber strip wall panel laminate dresses the wall where the TV console is mounted to. This is matched pleasingly with grey curtains, sofa, cushion upholstery, and carpet. This harmonious blend of colours and textures is contrasted with the dining and open kitchen area. At the kitchen, the cabinetry and countertop dining in smart black glossy finish assures the homeowners that cleaning is no chore with this sensible selection of finishes. To juxtapose this design, bar chairs in striking red cushioned fabric creates that attention grabbing chic appeal effortlessly. The common bedroom has been converted to study and wardrobe room that accommodates comfortably for the daily activities of the homeowners. Despite the choice of dark colours in this rather tight room, the designers cleverly used mirror finished wardrobe door panel that not only functions for the dressing up, but has successfully expanded the perception of space. The recessed vanity top and bay window treatment atop by white cushion seating intelligently also provides the necessary practical space and comfort through the dolling process.

ne simply cannot peel their eyes off that unobstructed expanse of the lush tree reserves right at your door step. How else better than to sit back, relax and soak in that view. The designers at Zidane Design championed this experience through the choice of exposing the innate materiality of building materials to create that ‘basic’ charm to this idyllic setting. The designers chose a concrete wall finish with complimenting rich timber patterned TV console shelving, to create that rustic effect as your living area opens up to that landscape of green horizon beyond the balcony. A warm grey fabric sofa, natural wood cabinetry and ceiling fan, spotted with painted timber chairs gives that understated pastoral atmosphere. The choice of baby blue painted timber for the dining table sits well with the light washed baby blue painted wall at the entrance. Undoubtedly, a modest raw timber dining table, illuminated by industrial looking downlights, creates that unassuming comfort in the home. This experience is further enriched with the use of white painted brick wall to provide that texture of unadorned humility. Traversing to the bedroom, flushed timber paneled shelving not only provides for functional storage but adds interest to the otherwise plain corridor. The bedroom once again is endowed with that large expanse of view to the beautifully landscaped design of the condominium. Taking advantage of this, the designer thoughtfully chose a wallpaper pattern in lightly sponged cream and off-white tones to compliment that timber bedframe and wardrobe paneling. What a restful retreat.

o not be deceived that this bright white clean interior is visually pleasing by chance. The careful proportioning of form, lines and voids created by purposeful storage spaces and contrasting defining colours subconsciously provides the undiscerning eyes a sense of balance in this living space. Clutter has no place in this spacious living room as finely detailed cabinetry conceals potentially messy home appliances mangled with dangling cable wiring. The entire furniture system neatly flushes electrical systems such as TV and console units into one seamlessly integrated backdrop in this entertainment zone. In addition, intelligently playing with depth and layering of the space, backlighting of the TV console shelving unit creates a glare-free illumination that enhances your entertainment experience. This composition of fine lines and clean detailing is continued neatly from the living room to the garden balcony. The outdoor timber flooring aligns the white living room tiles, giving the living room a visual perception of widened space.

This illusion of blurring the indoor and outdoor space takes full advantage of the design opportunities bestowed to this prime condominium unit. The immaculately executed design language of keeping a clean and white atmosphere is carried through to the kitchen and bathroom. Yet, by no means is the effect plain and dull. In fact, the subtle patterning by play of fine lines through the cabinetry groove lines, window frames and other furniture and equipment systems, has successfully orchestrated workability of a kitchen function, well-proportioned circulation spaces, and easily maintainable kitchen and bathroom finishing. This clean white design looks simple, but it is definitely by no means simplistic. In the private retreat where the creature comfort lays to rest, accents of soft upholstery clads the walls and bay windows. Natural colour tones are selected for the soft furnishing and wardrobe laminates to harmoniously blend with the greenery just fringing the window, creating your very own high rise resort living.

his living area, washed with gentle creamy undertones, need not scream ostentatiousness for one to appreciate the luxury encapsulated in the space. The mosaic textured feature wallhangs a neatly flushed shelving unit that hides away the messy cabling of a home theatre system. With wall washing strip lighting illuminating the feature wall, the ceiling cove lighting design spots similar lighting selection that creates a comfortable deluxe effect. The brown toned furniture and tan coloured upholstery are carefully selected for its clean lines and varied geometry. This helps to create discreet interest in an otherwise austere design. In the child’s playroom, it dreams up a ‘graphic wall’ image and Mickey Mouse shaped cove lighting appealing to the young and imaginative. Let’s have some fun together at home! Now you can say that to your young ones with their very own play area next to your rest or reading area. The family corner defines the play area with raised timber platforms and ‘wall feature artwork’ whilst you hang your legs up for a rest or catch up on some reading. In your enclave of the master bedroom and bathroom, deeper colours set a sensation of privacy without compromising the feel of spaciousness. This delicate balance was achieved with heavy upholstery wall covering and dark timber flooring contrasted with light ceiling and unimpeded daylight penetration.

the spaces. This wall mirror framing the dining experience, lends a bright and clean sensation of the space. In the study, the designers thoughtfully brightened the space for a well-lit and healthy workspace through the replacement of a solid wall with glass sliding doors, creating a quiet and condusive study environment. A large provision of storage was also included to organize the owners’ library of books, for that continual quest for knowledge. In the master bedroom where privacy and comfort is paramount this respite, warmer and richer colour tones are selected with textured upholstery and wall covering. An integrated bedside table flowing through symmetrically existing bay windows exemplifies volume and depth. his living space serves as the blueprint for modern living. Attention paid to the overall composition is certainly not lacking here, when colours, scales, and light come together so harmoniously well, and so telling of a design that has been outlined with great intent. Here, a sparsely-appointed interest in a gallerylike space. Tthe forms are intriguing, with the occasional elaborate curves and acute angles. In terms of the materials used, the designer exhibits a wide spectrum of textures with the use of furniture bearing wood and chrome, as well as fabrics that lend either a masculine or soft nuance to the overall make-up. The result is a contemporary space well deliberated to impress the senses. This space is imbued with a collected calm, denoted by an easiness that underlines a succinct, yet striking style. This space is punctuated with a good deal of black to accentuate and bring out unpretentious designs. Here, one cannot help but notice the sense of openness so deliberately forged to complment the theme. The flight of stairs, for example, is fashioned so perfectly to faciliate the flow of light and space, and lend modern edge. Once upstairs, one is greeted with plenty of glass – even enveloping the bathroom space. Here, a free-standing tub is hard to ignore aesthetically, as it is poised like a sculptural piece on the wooden floor. This bathroom rests on the same floor space as the master bedroom and a generously proportioned dressing area. Each area is equally captivating in terms of the design perused and the style conveyed. An artwork here and a rug there add to the language of undulating style inherent of a space clearly outfitted by someone who possesses a discerning eye. Separating adjoining spaces with glass walls create layers of dimension that appear to make the space optically larger. Here, the designer’s interpretation of a modern space is unique. As a result, every room stands out as a work of art in its own right.

eaving the walls fully cladded with mirror and off-white colour tones, this condominium putsthe emphasis of attraction in the living room amongst the cozily textured furnishing and most importantly, the occupants. In this living room opening to a large balcony space decked with outdoor seating, there is no need to draw unnecessary attention away from this apparently comfortable enclave. The dining table setting is set in the stage against a glass mirror backdrop of which reflects every fine intricate detail of this very English styled dining table and chairs. The heavy curtains creates a theatrical atmosphere to this animated space of bountiful cheers. To top it off, a well proportionately sized chandelier hangs over the dining table where the set of dancing candlesticks sit. What a joyful atmosphere.some distance. The master bedroom in this condominium, like the dining area, spells opulence with a right balance. Framing the most important element of the bedroom, the bed, is a dark timber trimming against the mirror wall. This framing of bliss around the soft white bed spread articulated with varied pillow and cushion covering is mirrored on the other side of the wall. ust a glance into the living room, and the designer’s attention to details immediately impresses upon you. The designer from Sky Creation Design assembled those living room loose fixture, fittings and ornamental pieces, into a wall shelving unit and made it a design feature. These ‘hanging boxes’ in varied sizes and shapes juxtapose one another in bold white veneer and timber finish against a glossy black back-painted glass. This accommodated all the necessities of a living room whilst integrating them as part of the feature wall fabric. This living room in white flooring and ceiling extends out to the balcony where a breakfast terrace aptly takes place atop composite wood flooring. The effect is a welcoming bright andairy living space allowing sufficient light into the adjacent dining area. Here, the black dining table is illuminated with a unique modernist chandelier made up of clustering spotlights hanging from an angular cut cove ceiling. Surrounding this dining table and chair set is a myriadd of wall finishes such full height mirror, white painted wall, and green washed wall leading to the bedrooms. Although all these materials and textures are innately very different, they give this dining and living space an edgy appeal when pieced together. In the case of the master bedroom, the rich parquet strip flooring contrasts nicely against the dark grey texture painted wall. This wall is lit with a wall washer glow from the elongatedbedhead fixture. This bedhead in black veneer and cushioned with tanned backrest, has an echoing design response on the stepped cove ceiling which is similarly back lit with homogeneous warm white cove lighting. What a subtle gesture by the designer to tie varied elements harmoniously in the comforts of the bedroom.

The designers from Arc Define created a unique personality the homeowners can identify with. From the living room to the dining area and corridor leading to the bedrooms, a white wallpaper patterned in prominent organic plant motifs binds the entire home with a cottage experience. This design strategy is aptly executed with the one metre height plain lower wall paneling, reminiscent to those of English homes. In the living room, one side of the wall renders a white brick wall pattern whilst another in diagonal white painted timber strips panels. The choice of such rustic materials provides the ideal setting for the comforts of the occupants especially on a cushy antique styled sofa. At the dining area hugged by those similar wall treatment design, the dining table is accompanied with a choice of chairs are bench and illuminated with an intricately eclectic hanging lamp. The simple choice of such a lamp will actually cast beautifully dancing light and shadow patterns against the organically patterned wallpaper. The bedroom in this case, employs a slightly different design approach of creating a toned down neutral space surrounded by earthy beige thick curtains, providing that all required restful sleep environment. he selection of raw grain timber textured flooring, shelving units, and casual dining table and benches is reminiscent of charming alfresco cafes. The wall colour monotone of white black and grey sets a theatrical backdrop for feature down lighting cozily illuminating the dining area. And with a chalkboard wallcovering and graffiti stickers, the designers transformed this HDB unit in Woodlands into a heartwarming stage down the memory lane. This living room breathes airiness and space even with the choice of dark grey coloured walls that is washed with cove lighting. This space that surrounds the matching deep grey sofa set paired with timber coffee table and TV console is visually enlarged through the opening of walls to the adjacent room. This strategy is well executed by the designer giving the living room more porosity for ventilation and daylighting. The kitchen in monotones of black and white colour has been functionally designed to facilitate the cooking as well as cleaning process. With ample storage space of cabinets and wall mounted shelving, the kitchen clutter is neatly tucked away in the flushed clean built in kitchen furniture. With a bedroom, challenged as a small space, it manages to comfortably fit a full height wardrobe with sliding doors that makes the tight spaces usable for the couple. The matching timber grain pattern and the bedhead was appropriately selected in horizontal strips of warm hues to give a visual elongation of the space. This choice of using horizontal linear textured finishes to visually expand the space was similarly employed in the bathroom, where organic line patterned limestone tiles creates that cozy yet luxurious appeal.

aking advantage of the generous daylight streaming in from the full height window, this living and dining room is kept simple in design with the injection of subtle but focal elementsfor that taste of contemporary living. On the one side, the dining room wall sparks a white patterned brick wall where these textures will cast interesting patterns when lit by the LED track lights. This enlivening of the space sets a warm invite to the dining area when the occupants return home at the end of the day. Mirroring this is the warm beige painted wall in neutral harmony for the enjoyment of the TV entertainment. Here, the fixtures and furniture are in bold jet black to accentuate its angularclean form, especially seen in the ceiling fan design. To demarcate the differing space between the living room and entrance ‘foyer’, a black art deco grill motif mounted on a band of cabinet unit, unveils the inquisitive mind into the living space as one enters this HDB unit. At this zone, hugging one side of the wall is a top and bottom timber laminate shoe shelving and cabinet storage. The convenient provision of a metal seating bench with a backing in ‘old school’ motif patterns, surely brings back the familiar garden memories in this home. Peering into the kitchen through a glass sliding door in dark brushed metal frame, the kitchen adopts the similar design language of brick patterned wall tile as the backsplash. Although this kitchen is compromised in a narrow layout, sufficient storage space for kitchencutlery hangs on the brick wall as part of the design feature. In this case, drawers and cabinets are accommodated in natural wood textured laminate finish for that taste of rusticness cooking up in this kitchen. COLONIAL APPEAL/ “ A LAID-BACK STYLE SPELLS COMFORT AND CHARACTER IN THIS MODERN ABODE DESIGNED BY SQUARE ROOM.”
F
ew, but meaningful pieces seal the direction of the designer’s intent to create a space that is refreshing and stylish. A laid-back space in essence, subtle touches of English mien permeate throughout, contributing to a look and feel that bridges the old and the new. In the living room, for instance, black and white bamboo blinds are a sure sign of a look that is also inspired to bring in the colonial lure. Coupled with patterned fabrics that bespoke English interiors, this space exudes an old-world charm, but not without modern installations that make one rethink the design ground on which this home is crafted. English interior styling is a characteristic that also helm the kitchen in this home. Panelled doors and matte black knobs are features that enrich the vocabulary of this well-articulated and tastefully manicured space. As the kitchen is fairly big, the designer makes full use of the space by introducing a kitchen island counter to complete the evocative look. Here, the island counter acts as the nucleus in this room, with emphasis given through a dark base. Throughout, the use of black and white gives the space a modish touch. Unlike English kitchens that spot butcher tops and plenty of brown, which can read heavy to some, the polarity of black and white is effective in lending an air of casualness and crispness to the space. Interest culminates with little details that fill the space – such as hanging kitchen peripherals on the walls to break the monotony of a whitetiled space. The collected look appears to be well thought through and executed without a fault to make one totally succumb to this unpretentious space.

T
he dining area, surrounded by unique feature walls, is brightly lit both by natural light and generous cove, recessed and feature pendant downlights. With one side of the wall cladded in folded full height bronze mirrors, and the other side in embossed ‘wine bottle’ like wall cladding, this unique dining atmosphere surely embodies a sense of celebration. The raised timber platform sets the polished marble dining table and matching chairs on a pedestal, thereby defining the space with a sense of prominence. Every inch of the living room is considered in the design of this HDB unit. From the elaborateceiling with cove lighting cascading down to form a wall feature for the TV console, to the fine details of a carved out booth seating, the design of this home leaves nothing to chance. Even the sofa settee is coordinate with the dining set. In addition, providing convenience and visual continuity of space is the enlarged sliding glass door opening the dining area to the designer kitchen. One quickly notices the bold statement of glossy red backsplash kitchen worktop framed by black wall paneling, highlighting the fun of food preparation. In the spacious master bedroom, there is sufficient room to fittingly accommodate a walk-in wardrobe whilst leaving generous space around the bed to create that spacious feel. Surrounding this room is a muted wallpaper pattern that subtly creates rich textures for a classy environment. Even in the bathrooms, the choice of limestone rendered wall tiles illuminated tastefully by concealed lighting behind the mirror shelving of the vanity top, encapsulates that air of luxury with lightness.

his 3 bedroom HDB flat was successfully designed to capitalize on the indoor and outdoor spaces. The designers from AX Image, cleverly removed walls at strategic locations to open up the important spaces for a holistic airy and healthy home experience.

The kitchen opens up its domain for the home owner to have a visual connection to the living area or interact with the guests comfortably seated on the bar countertop. The choice of keeping an overall clean white and cream base palate, highlighted with deepercolours on feature wallcoverings and timber laminated cabinetry, were notably to enhance the spacious quality of this flat. Key features such as the back wall for the TV console, the dining area, and the bar countertop were accentuated to heighten the animated activities at these areas. on’t shy away from bright colours and rich textures if that is the persona you want to manifest in your home. In this living room, a budget friendly option to create an uplifting designer space is simply by painting a bright colour on the wall where the TV console is positioned. This highlights the wall as a backdrop for the TV supported by interesting random geometry of shelving console. Such a design strategy allows orientation to the space to areas where it matters. To tie in the bold theme of bright colours, the choice of yellow and baby blue is seen splattered on walls and as accents for the shelving in the study room. This creates interest and lightness to the otherwise potentially dark space. The dining corner design renders a fond reminiscent of an alfresco restaurant where brick patterned wall feature with a black chalkboard clads the wall. Bringing the enclosed kitchen closer to the dining area, glass windows and pocket door opens the kitchen to the dining, engaging the occupants with activities throughout the cooking and feasting atmosphere. Fine details does not escape the eye where the dining furniture are varied with hints of the bright yellow and baby blue hues, complementing the living room. The master bedroom is designed with deeper darker colours with a hint of texture by full height cabinetry in timber laminates. Against the bed is a clever wall feature rendered black with concealed downlights and integrated with a dresser conveniently beside the bed. The lighting effect seemingly reminds one of a backstage makeup room, where the Hollywood actress cleanses and winds down after an eventful day.
