LISTONE GIORDANO/ “ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING, BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED PLANKS, BROUGHT TO YOU BY DESIGN HUB.“
P
utting aside the material, wooden flooring has always given the additional touch of comfort and coziness in a home. Even within a commercial building, areas with wooden material just increases the level of belonging within that space. This is an add-on to the aesthetically beautiful look of wood. The “natural” look that most people try to achieve within a space. The way nature is brought into homes, offices, hotels, and many more. The increased awareness of being part of the environment. This, has slowly paved the way for engineered wood flooring. If you can have the option of engineered wood flooring, why not? The true blue look and feel of nature, of wood, in your space. The experience of seeing these knots and grains on the wooden planks. Immersing yourself in the closest thing to nature. This is the time we bring you the brand
behind these beautifully crafted planks – Listone Giordano. It is well-engineered with a cross-ply construction that perfectly solves the problem of stability by combining the stunning beauty of wide long planks with the highest technical performances. The multilayer birch plywood results in a unique wooden floor featuring large dimensional boards that have a low tendency to deform. Listone Giordano has adopted a self-regulation that consists of strict controls and restrictive limits of radioactive emissions for both raw materials and finished products. They also pay constant attention to each phase of the manufacturing process to ensure that all complementary products used are absolutely ecologic, non-toxic and odourless. All of these responsible choices positively contribute to the environment and to the health of those who use it.
It isn’t too late to realise the goodness of Listone Giordano’s wooden planks. If you will like to see for yourself, do visit Design Hub’s showroom at 30 Tuas Bay Drive Singapore 637548, or contact them at +65 66862002, email: marketing@designhub.com.sg for more information.

anish design aficionados can now end the year on a high note; W. Atelier is spoiling everyone with exciting double treats at the first ever Republic of Fritz Hansen flagship store in Singapore that will offer luxury pieces, both classics and newer designs, from the Danish furniture icon. Partnering with W. Atelier, the store, to be launched on September 18, will offer the cutting-edge, contemporary style and high-quality craftsmanship the brand is known for worldwide. Those who have waited since Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2014 will finally be able to get their hands on Jaime Hayon’s Analog™ table – the clean, organic piece launched this April in Milan – and Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Drop™, a chair made by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the legendary SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen along with the Swan™ and the Egg™, but never put into standard production, until now. While the pieces are a generation apart from each other, a line of beauty is a line of beauty, and each of them highlights an organic form and clean sensibility that has made Danish furniture so beloved around the world, and ensures the Analog and the Drop will merge well into contemporary interiors, outliving trends and cherished for years. The Drop may be more than half a century old since it was first designed, but it is nobody’s grandfather. The Republic of Fritz Hansen has made it available in moulded plastic

The latter is also available in textile and leather versions. The Analog too is versatile enough for almost all work, play and living spaces. Like Hayon’s previous creations for Fritz Hansen – the FAVN™ sofa (2011) and easy chair
and footstool Ro™ (2013), all already modern classics – the Iconic Analog™ table & Drop™ chair is simple, with beautifully crafted lines and a shape that encourages community and engagement between people.
With hardly a home, office or museum’s contemporary product collection without an item from Fritz Hansen, midcentury Danish furniture from the 142-year old company is adored worldwide for its high-quality craftsmanship and sleek sensibilities emphasising the purity of material, form or purpose. The Republic of Fritz Hansen flagship store in Singapore fuels the nation’s love for fresh, uncluttered Scandinavian design, and brings with it the brand’s 20th century design heritage with modern classics like the Ro™ easy chair and foot stool by Jaime Hayon, Essay™ table by Cecilie Manz, RIN™ chair by Hiromichi Konno and Space™ chair by Jehs+Laub.

NEW HITACHI WASHING MACHINE / “COMBINES WASHER, DRYER AND STEAM IRON WITH AUTO SELF CLEAN FEATURE.“
H
itachi’s new Made In Japan Front Load Big Drum Washing Machine BD-S5500 promises to save energy and water as well as reduce the time one has to spend drying and ironing clothes. Combining groundbreaking technologies developed exclusively by Hitachi – Auto Self Clean, Heat Recycle Drying, Wind Iron and Steam Iron – the new 10.5kg washing machine forms one intelligent system that brings unparalleled convenience to users.married with sensibilities of practical design. Auto Self Clean Feature Using washing machine day after day, dirt, such as sebum, detergent residue, bacteria and mould gradually accumulates in the tub, giving laundries a reek of mildew. Many resorted to using drum cleaning agents and powder, believing that the problem will be solved once the durms are washed. However, over time, some stubborn residues are exceptionally difficult to remove. resolving this common household woe., Hitachi has successfully developed an innovative technology the Auto self clean feature. Taking advantage of the rotation of the tub, the new Auto self clean technology allows washing maching to automatically clean itself. It removes 99% of germs and prevents mould growth in each washing . Simply switch on the Auto Self Clean setting and after rinsing the clothes, this new technology will automatically start operating before the fianl spin. Operating every time laundry is done, clean water will wash away the dirt from the outside and bottom of the stainless stell tub and inside and bottom of the outer tub. Heat Recycling Drying
With POWER SAV and POWER SAVE STATIC DRY program installed into the new BD-S5500, electricity usage can be reduced during each wash. In Heat Recycling Drying, heat is recycled from the Main Motor, Jet Fan and Eco Vent. Heat genrerated from the Main Motor is transfered into the drum to raise temperature and on top of heat from the heaters, heat generated by Jet Fan Motor is resued to power the high-speed airflow while simultaneously used as hot air in the dryer. Air warmed by the Main Motor and heater enters the Eco Vent that is set along the drying pipeline. The warm air is then used for drying.
homestyle 14
Wind Iron
Other Features
Incorporated to bring convenience to its user, Hitachi’s original Wind Iron* techonology smoothes out wrinkles after washing and drying so that clothes can be wom directly out of the drum; saving time on ironing. The widened drum allows clothes to move freely when drying to prevent wrinkling, while the high-speed airflow of about 300km/h generate by Jet Fan Motor streches out the remaining wrinkles. * Wind Iron operation reduces wrinkles with varying results depending on the wash load, the material of the items and the types of items that are dried together. Winkles cannot be eliminated completely.
Low Vibration Technology Combining High-Damping Hydraulic Suspension and 4-Ply Liquid Load Balancer, model BD-S5500 reduces washing machine noise. Two oil pressure suspensions support the drum and flexibly change the degree of damping accordingly to match the amplitude of vibrations and dramatically reduce them. Support from two suspensions also minimizes transmission of vibration to washing machine casing. With 4-Ply Liquid Balancer, when the clothes in the drum become unbalanced, liquid inside the 4-ply chamber will move to the opposite side if the load to restore drum balance and dramatically reduce vibration.
Steam Iron
Nano Titanium Technology
The washing machine also comes equipped with the convenient Steam Iron* feature that carries the dualfunction of reducing wrinkles and odour at the same time. The Stream Iron can smooth up to 1kg of dry clothes that have been worn, hung or kept for a long period of time in one load. Used together with the Wind Iron, wrinkles will be reduced. Operating on warm Steam Spray temperature with added deodorizing effect, clothes can be worn right from the washer.
Nano Titanium Technology allows clothes to be freshened without the use of water. The Nano Titanium Filter deodorises while hot air sterlize laundry by eliminating bacteria. This function is ideal for items such as suits, hats and cushions that will lose their shapes if washed frequently, and bags that cannot be washed with water.
* The smoothing effect varies depending on the load size and type of clothes. Wrinkles will be reduced but cannot be completely removed when the load is more than 1kg. The smoothing effect will not be comparable to pressing with an iron.
Designed with a massice drum depth of approximately 39cm that can easily fit up to approximately 75 litres capacity of laundry, all clothes can be washed at once to save time and electricity consumption. The big drum also rotates at very high speed of maximum 1,875 revolutions per minute which enables thorough spin-drying in the shortest time. This washin machine could prove to be a hit with electirc and water conservatives who loathe th earduous task of doing the drying and ironing. Retailing at $3,599, the Front Load Big Drum Washin Machine BD-S5500 comes in Champagne Gold and is available at all authorised dealers.

let the x’mas BAKING BEGIN /
B
aking Christmas cookies may be one of the most joyful and yummiest activities of the pre-Christmas season but it also tends to be one of the messiest. This is because even those of us who all year long use our kitchens only for heating up pizza or frying the occasional egg cannot resist the temptation of baking our own cookies during the holiday season. An hour of separating eggs, weighing exact quantities of butter and kneading dough leaves the kitchen looking like a war zone and we end up with all kinds of stuff sticking to our palms and fingers. However, this does not mean that we should renounce this cherished annual baking event for the sake of cleanliness and hygiene. Luckily, today’s technology provides us with handy helpers, which never let us down in our moments of greatest need. Such invaluable helpers come in the form of the attractive GROHE kitchen faucets incorporating the innovative EasyTouch technology. When it comes to preparing, cooking and baking food, hygiene takes top priority and the kitchen faucet plays a pivotal role in ensuring it. The annual Christmas baking experience would be unconceivable without a constant supply of clean water just to keep our fingers clean and prevent them from getting permanently stuck on our sugar and flour jars. However, the more often you
homestyle 22

operate the faucet with your sticky fingers, the sooner the lever and the faucet body will be covered in runny baking ingredients and sticky dough. This is why GROHE has developed a smart batterydriven technology called EasyTouch, which prevents just that. All you have to do to start the flow of water is to touch any part of the faucet with the back of your hand, your elbow or your lower arm. The faucet incorporates special sensor technology, which detects any contact with your skin. As a result, the faucet remains clean and uncontaminated. Baking cookies is great fun for kids, too, and they never need to be asked twice to join in the effort. In next to no time, their little fingers and faces typically need cleaning up. Operating the high-tech faucet is child’s play in the literal sense of the word. Most importantly, however, it is completely safe in that the faucet will exclusively discharge cold water when operated through its sensor interface, thereby completely ruling out any risk of scalding. Whenever your hands are not covered with dough, finger paint, garden soil or bicycle lubricants, you can of course control the water flow and the water temperature using the conventional lever as well. Two of the most popular GROHE kitchen faucet lines incorporate this advanced technology. First, there is the
modern and minimalist GROHE Minta Touch with curved C spout and extractable spray or with straight L spout and extractable mousseur. The alternative is Zedra Touch in brilliant chrome or matte steel with its extractable multifunctional rinsing spay for the utmost in flexibility. There is a matching design and style for any kitchen and the right functionality for any requirement.
So let the Christmas baking begin - with GROHE Minta Touch and Zedra Touch ready to spring into action at any time, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen has never been easier.

t is so important to fully understand your clients’ needs and aspirations, especially when it comes to a young couple with a vision of creating an inspiring home. As a responsible designer, it is imperative to emphatise with the homeowners on their desires and dreams, thereafter translate these intangibles into creative spaces and tactile forms that manifest their ideals.
Well-crafted is this home gallery where plain white walls with a hint of brick pattern clads thewall hanging the TV and wall mounted console resembling just another of the many art pieces. Needless to say, the furniture pieces such as sofa, coffee table and dining table sit respectfully like another curated sculpture in this living dining area.

the designer creates a space that is soothing, simple, yet revealing of modern classic details that suggest a lifestyle of European living. The result is a refreshingly contemporary living space. Here, white is accented with chestnut brown to lend an earthy vibe throughout. The occasional introduction of exotic pieces, such as a Persian rug and oriental lamp further enriches the overall vocabulary of the space, giving it a touch of history and character. The warm timber strip laminated flooring against the feet leads the homeowners from living areas to the bedrooms. Luxury is in the choice of the settee that proportionally sits well in the living area providing absolute lounging comfort with more than generous traversing area for any invited guests. The thoughfulness in selection of coffee table, shelving and TV console furniture is well echoed in fine detailed lines of the subtly illuminated blinds. The overall effect, harmonious.

Ensuring ease of maintainability and cleaning is fundamental in a home design where the house should not be a burden to your everyday life. The designer from Unity clearly has experience when choosing finishes for the wet areas such as kitchen and bathroom where cleaning is a breeze. Yet not compromising form for function, appropriately positioned accent details such as slate tile wall features and timber cabinet laminates adds interest to an otherwise monotonous space. The undermount lights neatly concealed by the mirror cabinets washes a refreshing cool white illumination that provides sufficient light with ideal colour rendering, yet is not glaring to the eyes. This is so critical to the process of dolling oneself, yet is often overlooked by designers. This sensibility to lighting strategy is also considered where hanging spotlights punches appropriate amount of light for workability at required places in the kitchen.
homestyle 50
At the intimate comfort and privacy of the bedroom, the designer scaled down the volume of space over the bed to create a sub-conscious effect of coziness, much like how a baby feels a sense of security in their cot. This was successfully achieved with a raised platform floor that not only sets the bed on a pedestal, has intelligently concealed storage space underneath
the platform. Even the size of the platform was cleverly designed to allow usable sitting spaces around the bed. What a thoughtful feature for newly weds.poster bed, drawer chest, and floral wallpapers. The nearly all-wood ensemble, from floor to ceiling, is especially soothing. Without the need for much accessorising, the designer succeeds in achieving a look and feel that is quintessentially English and gracefully distinct.

trikingly unique is the first experience as one steps into this house. After which, an almost safari-like effect sinks in compelling any guests, young or old, the desire to explore this 3 room HDB flat at Tampines further.
As you enter the dining room, you are greeted with a gesture of an exquisitely carved reclaimed timber bench, along which the track downlights provides a visual guide to a journey beyond. A deep brown textured partition wall, with an opening as an accent countertop, creates an inquisitive effect to view the dining room behind. One can only applaud the designer for the thoughtful planning of creating privacy to a family dining area, where undesired peering eyes of people from the corridor would bring. The deeply-coloured cushioned upholstery, that dresses a carved out seating against a full-height

homestyle 56
The perception of expanse in the living room was not compromised by the dark brown hues of the textured wall laminates or timber strip flooring. Here, a large sofa creates an almost cinematic atmosphere
generous enough for a large family and their guests to appreciate the home theatre experience. In continuation to the industrial ‘brutalist’ appeal of furniture selection, unique warm spotlights illuminate a recycled timber and rod iron cabinet unit which sits appropriately just under an exposed wall-mounted clockwork timepiece. The master bedroom which calls for a more subdued approach, is sensitively kept simple with cream white walls and just one deep blue wall, uniformly washed by concealed LED strip light. Nonetheless, similar timber furniture create the naturalistic feel in harmony to the resting sensation. This strategy was carried through to the bathroom where the finishes are kept simple, but accented with a tree trunk handle. The kitchen and laundry area are rendered bright and airy to facilitate the necessary tasks of the household. The unfinished
concrete floor, providing that similar ‘industrial look’ was suitably chosen at this predominantly wet area needing a bit more durability. Yet, fun was injected in bold timber laminate patterns of the cabinetry and bartop counter that was ideally placed adjacent to the living room. One can be sure that there is more than sufficient room and entertain host guests while in the midst of preparation.

o not be deceived that this bright white clean interior is visually pleasing by chance. The careful proportioning of form, lines and voids created by purposeful storage spaces and contrasting defining colours subconsciously provides the undiscerning eyes a sense of balance in this living space. Clutter has no place in this spacious living room as finely detailed cabinetry conceals
potentially messy home appliances mangled with dangling cable wiring. The entire furniture system neatly flushes electrical systems such as TV and console units into one seamlessly integrated backdrop in this entertainment zone. In addition, intelligently playing with depth and layering of the space, backlighting of the TV console shelving unit creates a glare-free illumination that enhances your entertainment experience.
This composition of fine lines and clean detailing is continued neatly from the living room to the garden balcony. The outdoor timber flooring aligns the white living room tiles, giving the living room a visual perception of widened space. This illusion of blurring the indoor and outdoor space takes full advantage of the design opportunities bestowed to this prime condominium unit.

homestyle
The immaculately executed design language of keeping a clean and white atmosphere is carried through to the kitchen and bathroom. Yet, by no means is the effect plain and dull. In fact, the subtle patterning by play of fine lines through the cabinetry groove lines, window frames and other furniture and equipment systems, has successfully orchestrated workability of a kitchen function, well-proportioned circulation spaces, and easily maintainable kitchen and bathroom finishing. This clean white design looks simple, but it is definitely by no means simplistic. In the private retreat where the creature comfort lays to rest, accents of soft upholstery clads the walls and bay windows. Natural colour tones are selected for the soft furnishing and wardrobe laminates to harmoniously blend with the greenery just fringing the window, creating your very own high rise resort living.

rom the entrance patio to the interior living, dining and private rooms, one can noticeably appreciate the care and sensitivity that the designer from 2nd Phase painstakingly incorporated when designing this contemporary house. The careful choice of plain white, grey and black pallete is by no means boring when paired with subtle marble flooring grain patterns and fine groove lines from concealed cabinetry. The generous amount of storage space leaves the wandering eyes only room for appreciation in this clean and refinely detailed living space cladded with built-in cabinetry. Inthe living room, a provocatively shaped ceiling pattern framed with backlighting accentuatesinterest in this space. With clever lighting strategies highlighting stimulating design features, there is no room for monotony in this duotone coloured setting. The dining area, undoubtly an important communal space of a lively household, is set on a pedestal in this split level setup of the house. This ideally carves out an intimate area for the family to gather and communicate their adventures of the day. In similar language of black and white, a spaciously planned and elegantly finished dry kitchen is crafted with simple black trimmings amidst the white canvas wall, flooring and ceiling. bedroom, one can notice that no corner of the house has been ambiguous in terms of design language. The walk up the stairways has the steps cladded with timber flooring almost to suggest the approach to another hierarchical domain.Yet, the analogous design strategy of flushed details and fine lines is evident at the entrances to the bedroom where wall panel laminates conceal the sliding bedroom doors. At the roof terrace outdoor wet kitchen, where it is comfortably sheltered from the harsh elements of nature, a full suite of kitchen fittings is accommodated for in easy to maintain finishing. Here, the family can be assured that rain or shine, a picnic in a lovely outdoor setting is always possible. In this house, regardless of size, shape and proportion, the bathrooms are similarly styled with grey non-slip floor tiles, texture rendered wall tiles and white cabinets with black vanity tops. The glass sliding shower compartment and backlit frameless mirror adds a pronounceddimensional edge to the otherwise utilitarian space. There is therefore no need for superfluous design elements that is unpurposeful in bathroom spaces.

The dining table and chairs has a playful random alternation of black and white, which echoes the language of the wall partition design. The wall partition is mosaicked with pockets of shelving to house ornamental pieces as a talking piece while dining. Just because the colours are monotone does not necessarily result in a boring austere space. Incorporating tasteful fun around the house is paramount in the design strategy by Square Room.

In sensory contrast suggesting the transition to another space, the kitchen and dining room takes on a brighter cool white colour rendition to facilitate the culinary process and its appreciation. This thoughtful idea is created by carefully planned concealed lighting that throws focus only to the main essentials. In the master bedroom, comfort is achieved with hints of austere formality by white walls accented appropriately with the similarly tanned gold wallcovering as seen in the living room. Mirroring this effect is an understated light brown bedhead wall that draws the attention to the comforts of the bed. Respectfully, a separate lounge sofa is provided at the foot of the bed to clearly define the hierarchy that the bed is for sleeping and the activity of watching the TV should be on a separate seating. How important it is that we prioritise our space. The walk-in wardrobe neatly tucked behind TV feature wall is well considered in placement and size as one traverses from the bedroom to the bathroom. The children rooms, on the contrary, take on a more lively and refreshing approach to bring out the fun and joys of childhood. Where the girl resides, the choice of bright pink for one side of the wall with matching pockets of deep red trimmings for the built-in study and cabinetry, adds fun to her personal space. For the older boy appreciating a slightly more subtle setting in his private domain, sees the careful proportioning of usable spaces through concealed built-in wardrobe, study and shelving units in matching hues of white and cream and brown.
