Don’t get up just yet.

There is a difference between hitting snooze and turning over for that second nap, and waking up on time, but not getting up. There is a word for this...it’s called “Hurkle-Durkle” and its lovely.

Although most human beings can see the magic in this, the word orginated in Scotland, and is bassically means lounging around in bed beyond the time you are supposed to get up.

So, what is needed for a me-zone?

Seating: If you don’t have the space for a full couch or chaise lounge, a simple wingback or even beanbag with a bit of extra room to tuck up your feet is more than sufficient for a bit of Hurkling. A well-balanced seating arrangement can benefit any bedroom and if you pick the right furniture and décor for this zone it will enhance these stunning bedroom seating ideas, as well as these sitting spaces.

Comfort: This is seasonal. In summer you might not need anything, or even want some form of refresing cooling like a fan or air conditioning unit, but in winter nothing beats a pile of comfy cushions and stacks of blankets. Play around with textures and fabric and think about the current trend of faux fur throws and full sized blankets that add a regular, luxurious touch to any space. This beautiful grey brown faux deer fur blanket from @home wispers elegance and wraps around you like a warm hug.

Sustenance: In and ideal world you’ll be woken up a steaming cup of your favourite hot drink, but in the real world you’ll have to fend for yourself. To keep the morning lazy, consider setting up a drink station in your bedroom to avoid the buzz harshening trek to the kitchen. This can be as basic as a kettle and a mug, or as extravagant as a whole barista worthy hot bar with Italian coffee machines and six different types of milk...only your space and budget will influence this.

For coffee station inspiration we love these coffee bar ideas.

Whether you get to Hurkle Durkle often or simply want to upgrade your bedroom vibes, the idea of a dedicated sitting-room within the santuary of your bedroom isn’t new. For many ages, the idea of sleeping quarters with different spaces for dressing and relazing have been the epitome of luxury, but in our busy cramped lives we seem to have forgotten this. Let’s re-claim the bedroom as a me-zone and start giving ourselves more time for comfort and recharging.

It’s about more than a good night’s sleep - it’s about a good day’s living!

Why LED-lighting is better than ever.

Remember the first time you heard about LED lightbulbs? We were told these lightbulbs can cut our electricity costs, and last years. They don’t get hot, they shine bright, and they are the future of lights. No more popping incandescent bulbs burning out every couple of months and no more flickering fluorescent tubes taking minutes to light up.

This sounded like a fad, but anu doubters have been proven wrong over the years. LED lighting has been a consistent, reliable and sustainable game-changer in lighting residential and commercial spaces for more than two decades now.

You might think all that could be done with LED has been done by now, but you would be wrong. Ever evolving technology is making LED lights work for us.

Human-centric lighting

“Human-centric lighting, which focuses on the physiological and psychological effects of light on humans, is an emerging trend in LED technology” (Medium.com)

LEDs are great for this kind of application because they can effectively mimic natural daylight and adjust to different hues of light throughout the day. Studies show that human-centric lighting can improve wellbeing, sleep patterns even your mood. Human-centric lighting has found application in work spaces, healthcare and even educational spaces. It is known fact that proper lighting can enhance productivity and comfort.

Going in the r(L)ight direction

One of the main benefits of LED lighting, is the fact that it emits light in a specific direction. This allows for directional downlighting, specialised task lighting and even increases the visibility and effieciency of lighted letter sinage. This is particularly useful in the entertainment and marketing sphere with hi-tech LED displays offering more appealing and less straining displays. Conventional lighting would rely on reflectors to guide the light in the right direction.

Bringing your home to life

So called “architectural” lighting is another way in which LED light are upgrading our lives. Whether its under counter lighting to give your kitchen a sophisticated feel and cut down on the bright overhead lights, step lighting on your stairway to give you that extra peace of mind when you’re making your way downstairs at night.
