To make the process consume even more time, concrete trucks had to drive up the hill in half loads due to the driveway’s steep elevation. Amazingly this project only took 90 days total including 2 weeks of excavation.

In the past few years there has been a huge shift in local kitchen trends from the overall design, functionality, size, materials, appliances and style of cabinets. To shed some light on questions about these new trends I reached out to Dennis White, President of Cabinets by C&F. Brett: What are some of the new trends in kitchen remodels? Dennis: Mixing countertop materials like wood, granite & metal is popular. Brett: Why do you think these trends have become so popular? Dennis: Interior accessories are the buzz for kitchen & bath remodeling in 2013. Islands are still the most requested item by far, with rollouts, pullout interior accessories, and large drawers following closely. Over 60% of all the kitchens we design and install are European and/or Contemporary in style. These styles are known for their clean lines and use of unique materials.

Brett: How do you think the economy has driven some of these new trends? Dennis: While caution about the new economy has kept the footprint of the kitchen & bath the same, with few opting to expand their space, the quality of the space to be remodeled with relation to additional functionality & comfort has grown in desirability. Brett: Is technology playing a bigger role in the kitchen? Dennis: While only 14% of the kitchen respondents list Hi-Tec as their primary goal in their remodel, 81% list functionality to include new LED lighting in under the cabinet and interior applications, which are new to the consumer in 1/2" wide continuous “tape” lighting which have an almost unlimited lifespan. Also prominent are touch control & programmable appliances of which 66% of consumers surveyed stress Energy Star rating as being highest priority.
