id you make any resolutions for 2024? Making New Year resolutions is a time-honored tradition (over 4,000 years old). The majority of people make resolutions yet over 90% who make them fail at keeping them. Still another year begins and with great resolve we plan to do things differently in the coming months. Some of the popular resolutions are to be a better person; lose weight; get healthier – exercise more; spend less.etc. Why do we fail at keeping them? Sometimes they are too unrealistic; we just don’t have enough time, money, or energy to do it all. Maybe making resolutions for the entire year is overly ambitious? Maybe we need to be kinder to ourselves when we fail and resolve to begin again (and again). We hope that one of your resolutions it to help make a difference in the lives of pets and animals. Our slogan for our adoption page is “Everyone can do something, large or small, to help save a life” and we believe this is possible. There are many ways to make a difference – donate, volunteer, educate, and if possible, open your heart and home to a rescue pet by adopting or fostering.
Wishing you an awesome new year!! Your Friends at the Las Vegas Pet Scene Magazine “Take great comfort in knowing that all great feats are accomplished one small step at a time.” – Og Mandino

Canine Enrichment
Co-written by: Melissa Sosin-Novelli, Pawtastic Friends Co-founder & Melissa Parker, Pawtastic Friends Coach, CPDT-KA
WHAT IS ENRICHMENT TRAINING? Simply stated it is engaging your dog in activities that stimulate them both physically and mentally. Animal enrichment gives the opportunity to not only think and explore, but also have fun. In life most animals have to work and compete for their resources, humans included. This drive to survive is what keeps animals searching, fighting, working, and hunting for their needs, which include food, water, shelter, mates, and territory. When we give our dogs their bowl of food, we give away little pieces of currency for free. We take away their need to work, but not necessarily their desire. Work is both fun and enriching for dogs. It employs the activities they were born to do. The acts of sniffing, gnawing, chewing, rooting, and forging are also generally calming in the right environment.
Canine enrichment can help reduce stress and anxiety, while building confidence and social skills. There are many simple enrichment activities you can do at home, such as the following:
1
SOCIAL ENRICHMENT
involves introducing and interacting with both humans and canines.
Examples of social enrichment include: ➥ Supervised playgroups ➥ Daily walks to create positive interactions ➥ Car rides
4
SENSORY ENRICHMENT
stimulates the senses , such as sight, sound, and smell.
Examples of sensory stimulation include: ➥ Visual objects ➥ Soothing music or sounds ➥ Different scents; lavender, vanilla, or chamomile to name a few
2
FOOD ENRICHMENT
allows dogs to utilize their natural feeding behaviors.
3
OCCUPATIONAL ENRICHMENT
provides a working job which promotes both physical and mental stimulation.
Examples of food enrichment include: ➥ Puzzle feeders ➥ Nose Work with boxes, giving dogs an opportunity to search for food ➥ Unrolling a towel with kibble or treats
This can include the following. ➥ Playing fetch ➥ Performing agility ➥ Learning tricks ➥ Searching for treats
5
6
PHYSICAL ENRICHMENT
involves changing up the dog’s living space.
This can be done with easy adjustments: ➥ A raised bed ➥ Toys ➥ An adjustable platform
COGNITIVE ENRICHMENT
encourages your pup to think.
Mind work can include: ➥ Puzzles ➥ Problem solving exercises ➥ Playing hide and seek ➥ Kongs stuffed treats
Canine enrichment is very beneficial for all dogs as it keeps them fit, their minds sharp, alleviates boredom, and builds a lifelong bond between you and your dog. Enrichment will keep you and your pup happy and healthy. Pawtastic Friends provides enrichment training programs to homeless dogs, preparing them for adoption. Learn more at www.pawtasticfriends.com.

predator animals. Boxes provide a sense of safety and security to protect them from predators sneaking up on them. However, as ambush predators they instinctively seek out confined safe places to hide and wait for unsuspecting prey. Though our cats do not need to hunt for their food they do need to satisfy the instinct to ambush unsuspecting prey. Boxes make great confined areas to hide, wait and pounce.
Cats
& Boxes!
What is the feline fascination with boxes? Social media loves cats and some of the most popular and creative holiday posts this year were about cats, Christmas gifts and boxes. It’s commonly accepted that most cats love boxes; they subscribe to the “if I fits I sits” cat philosophy. Is it just cute cat antics or are there reasons for the fascination? Actually, there are many reasons why they love boxes. Here are a few that were interesting to me. First, cats are both prey and
Secondly, cats love to be warm! Boxes provide warm cozy insulated spaces. Studies show that cats are comfortable in temperatures between 86 to 97 degrees. Average temperatures of most homes in the winter are 72 to 76 degrees which is considerably cooler than most cats prefer. When we’re cold we can put on a sweater or add another blanket. Cats can’t do that. For them curling up in a ball in a cozy box helps them preserve their body heat. Finally, cats are curious and love to explore. A box creates a world of possibilities for them.
Boxes are great “gifts” for your cat; they provide a sense of safety and security and can help keep your cat warm this winter.

February is
MONTH
By Dr. Amber Pepper, DVM Town Center Animal Hospital - www.towncentervet.com
Does your pet have bad breath? Trouble eating or drinking? Brown staining on their teeth? Red gums? It may be time to take them to your veterinarian for a dental exam. Dental disease is one of the most common diseases in our pets and can start as early as two years of age.
I
n people, tooth decay is the most common form of problems in the oral cavity but in our pets it goes much deeper than that. Inflammation and infection of the tissue surrounding the tooth is the culprit known as periodontal disease that affects our furry friends. Tartar and calculus cause plaque to build up causing inflammation at the gum line and gives bacteria a good environment to grow which can lead to infection. Eventually, if untreated, the infection can spread to the tooth socket and cause the tooth to loosen and most often pain. Its important to practice good oral hygiene before tartar builds up in your pet and there are a number of at home products your veterinarian can recommend. However, once tartar builds up the only way to get rid of it is with a dental cleaning. The goal of the dental cleaning is to remove the tartar from the tooth as well as below the gum line. In some cases, x-rays of the teeth may need to be taken to assess the root of the tooth and how bad it is affected. X-rays are also a good way of assessing fractured teeth that may need to be removed. Your veterinarian may recommend extracting teeth that are loose, infected, broken or if there is too much root exposure causing pain. Most pets feel much better after a dental prophylaxis and can return to eating their normal diet even when several teeth have been removed. 12
Las Vegas Pet Scene Magazine • January/February 2024
It is important to have regular dental exams to assess your pet’s oral health. Dental prophylaxis requires general anesthesia, because unlike us, our pets won’t sit still or spit when we ask them to and your veterinarian needs a good way to keep them still and protect their airways. The sooner you address your pet’s dental disease the better. Chronic inflammation and infection can lead to other systemic illnesses especially if the infection gets into the blood stream. Before considering anesthesia it is a good idea to make sure your pet is systemically healthy with regular physical exams and blood work to make sure the kidneys, liver and other organs are functioning properly. The best at home way to prevent tartar build up is daily brushing and starting early at a young age. Unfortunately that is not always easy and your veterinarian is here to help. If you see that your pet has evidence of tartar, gingivitis, bad breath or trouble eating you should take them to your veterinarian for an examination and the best course of treatment. It’s never too early to be concerned about your pet’s oral health and with national dental month around the corner it’s a good idea to schedule a dental exam with your veterinarian.

Make Life
Pets easier, cleaner and more stylish with
~ By Gail Mayhugh
If you have pets you know that your walls can take a beating. Down the halls, around the corners, their rooms and those play areas that really need some extra special attention. In those high traffic areas an expensive decorative wall treatment may not be the best choice. Paint on the other hand is an easy, less expensive and impactful way to make a statement. But it can’t be any paint. We all know that our pets have a remarkable way of getting things on the walls. Food flung from their cages; oil marks from their coats on every corner they run around; flying drool; and let’s not forget those marks left behind from throwing their ball. So first, flat paint has no place in an animal house unless you like to paint a whole lot. Honestly, I don’t like flat paint in any home. It’s true flat paint has its advantages. Its non-reflective nature masks any surface imperfection, which is the number one reason builders use it. It’s easier to touch-up than the others, but unless you invest in the more expensive washables, you just can’t wipe it down without at some point going down to the plaster board. Plus textured walls trap the dirt. So what type of paint should you get? This is where sheen plays an important role in selecting paint. Sheen refers to how much light is reflected off the painted surface as well as durability. There are varying degrees of sheen’s, from no sheen to high gloss. Paint manufacturers may refer to their paint sheens by different names, but basically there are five different sheen levels: flat, eggshell, satin, semigloss and high gloss. An eggshell sheen gets its name from the texture and sheen from an actual eggshell. It has a slight sheen and is more washable than a flat finish. A satin is sometimes also called pearl, it has a slight gloss and does offer more cleanability than flat. Personally I only use a satin or eggshell sheen as I don’t like the reflection and glow from semi-gloss paint on the walls. I even use it in kitchens and baths. Really how dirty do these areas get? If you wipe down any splatters in the kitchen after cooking you shouldn’t have problems. I have it behind Ki Ki’s cage, my Blue and Gold McCaw, and use a scrub brush to clean it. But I did purchase the best quality they offered, it really does make a difference. Typically a semi-gloss is used in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms because they make surfaces easier to clean and are moisture resistant. The higher the gloss the tougher and more stain resistant the

paint. So if you have a real high pet traffic area you might want to consider a semi-gloss. High gloss is extremely hard, has a very shinny rich finish and is highly moisture resistant. It’s normally used on trims, cabinets and doors. It’s the toughest and most stain resist finish. Being that it has more of a mirror-like finish it will also make colors more intense. Now paint doesn’t have to be boring, you can do a lot with two-toning the room with regular paint and painters tape. Paint stripes using either two different colors or the same color and two different sheens. Be different and paint horizontal stripes instead of vertical. Color blocking is also an interesting effect. Select the lightest shade of a color on a color strip. You’ll then be using that color along with the four other colors directly above it. Measure the height of your wall and divide by five. So with a ten foot ceiling, it would be two feet. Now mark off two foot squares on the wall from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. At the corner, if you are not left with a perfect two foot square, warp it around to the next wall. Start at the floor and paint the lightest color in the first block and continue to the darkest in the fifth block. Then start back down at the floor, but start with the third color and follow with the colors in the same order through to the ceiling. Continue starting at the floor offsetting each time by two colors from the one next to it. It has a very rich look, especially when using neutral tones. One last thing is to make sure you look at is VOC’s (volatile organic compound) in the paint you’re purchasing. This is important if you have pets with a sensitive respiratory system, especially birds. Most paints now have low VOC’s with many also offering no VOC’s. So go grab that brush and make the walls in your home stylish and pet-friendly. Gail Mayhugh supports animal rescues and shelters through her non-profit, www.SeniorsToTheRescue.org

RECHARGE YOUR SOUL
SPEND TIME WITH ANIMALS By Sheryl Green
The New Year is supposed to be a fresh start. You’re supposed to wake up on January 1st refreshed, excited, and ready to take on the new year. It’s time for a new you! Unless, of course, you went out on New Year’s Eve, stayed out too late, had a little bit too much to drink or eat, or, I don’t know… haven’t made a single change from how you’ve shown up in years past. The truth is, the clock striking 12:01 on January 1st does not a “new you” make. Do you know what will recharge your soul and give you a new lease on life?
Animals. Our furry little friends are magical creatures. No, I’m not talking about how they manage to always find the one square inch of carpet in your home before puking. I’m talking about how being around them can lift your spirits, improve your health, and save your sanity. How can you harness all the goodness they bring?
PLAY
When was the last time you set aside an afternoon to just play? It turns out we can learn a lot from our 4-legged sages. Animals are always ready for a good time. Whether it’s tossing a ball with your pup or swinging a feather toy through the air for your kitty, it’s always play time in their minds. You might be an adult with responsibilities, but that doesn’t mean you can’t set aside some play time for yourself and your fur kids. Not only will you lift your mood, but your pet will have the best day ever.
SPEND TIME IN NATURE
There’s nothing quite like watching a dog romp around happily out in nature. Sure, you could just take your pup for a walk around the neighborhood, you’ll both still 18
Las Vegas Pet Scene Magazine • January/February 2024
benefit from the fresh air. However, even better would be heading out on a hiking trail for some new sights and sniffs. Quality time with animals is amazing. Spending time in nature is amazing. Put the two together and you’ll be feeling refreshed and rejuvenated in no time.
VOLUNTEER
There are so many wonderful fur kids waiting for furever homes. Shelters and rescues do their best to get the animals out for fun and exercise, but often, they’re so busy making sure the animals are fed and kept clean, that play, exercise, and socialization suffer. When you volunteer at your local animal welfare organization, you not only help the animals to be happier and more adoptable, you will also improve your own mood and recharge your soul. And who knows, you might just find the next love your life.
FOSTER AND ADOPT
Why not take volunteering one step further and take one of these cuties home? If you’ve got room in your life for another best friend, there is nothing in the world that will recharge your soul more than knowing you saved a life. The look in an animal’s eyes when they know they are safe and home… your soul will be straight up smiling. Yes, the new year can be the perfect time to introduce a “new you.” Just make sure your resolutions include making the world a better place for animals.

aking the decision to add a new furry addition to your family is a rewarding one and will provide you with years of happiness. Along with that happiness, however, does come a new realm of responsibility, as a pet requires almost as much dedication as having a child. The one main difference is that a pet will never be able to rely on its own resources or take care of itself. They rely on their owners to be their sole caregivers. This means they require much more than just food, water, and going outside once in a while. While some pets can easily amuse themselves and may even find enjoyment simply nestled in their favorite corner or cage, dogs need frequent attention and mental stimulation. It is important to make sure they get plenty of exercise and quality time with their humans. Failing to do so often results in an unhappy pet which can make for one unhappy owner! Exercising your pet will help curb destructive behavior that often stems from anxiety. In addition to exercise, it is important to maintain good health for your pet. While some have more health requirements than others, at the very least they should be spayed or neutered to prevent overpopulation. Annual checkups and vaccinations are imperative as well. These checkups will help ensure that any minor illnesses won’t spiral into something serious. While costly, preventative wellness checks are well worth the money and can save you money in the long run. Your vet can also provide your pet with a microchip, which is an identification marker injected into your pet if they ever get lost. This chip is registered with a company, and if your pet ever gets lost, any vet will be able to scan them and find their owner. Unlike dog tags, this chip can never be removed and will be with your dog for the remainder of its life. It is a great safety net should your pup ever decide to go exploring the world on its own! 20

Also keep in mind that while it might not be necessary to have your pooch professionally groomed, it is important to bathe them every so often and have their nails clipped to prevent injury to themselves and/or others. It’s also important to check their ears for mites or infection, and clean them often. Ear infections can become serious if left unattended. And, of course, their teeth need to be tended to as well. For dogs with severe dental disease, your vet may suggest a professional cleaning. To maintain proper dental hygiene, most vets can supply you with toothpaste made just for dogs. It may take some time for your dog to get used to it, but some dogs learn to love it! Some dogs need to be socialized, but if your pooch isn’t the social butterfly, that’s ok! Not all dogs appreciate the companionship of other canines. Some do show interest and if your pooch is one of them, it’s important to get them acclimated to meeting other dogs, slowly and carefully.
While having a pet is undoubtedly a lot of work, with patience and proper budgeting, it is an enjoyable experience that will provide you with unconditional love and companionship for years to come.

C H I C K E N S Loving Companions
By Jade Kline
What started out as a Covid Project quickly became one of the most enriching experiences of my life. While in quarantine during the Covid outbreak, my family and I decided to raise chickens. I hadn’t had much interaction with chickens at the time, but I figured it would be a fun experience and something exciting to focus on during the quarantine. What I did not realize is that these intelligent, friendly creatures would not only become cherished pets, but loving companions. When our four chickens, Dumpling, Dash, Smokey, and Rona, first arrived at our house as little chicks, they were so sweet, cuddly, and social, making the cutest noises. But as they grew up, they each began to develop their own unique personality. Dumpling is curious and loves new experiences, Dash is very sweet and playful, Smokey is an adorable fluffball who just wants companionship, and Rona is for the most part shy, except she is not afraid to stick up for her flock when necessary. Over time we began to know them, and they also began to know us. After coming home from a long day at work, I can always count on them to greet me as they run to the front door of their coup and call out, eagerly waiting for me to say hi to them. Even as adult chickens they are always in the mood to cuddle, especially if I wrap them up in a soft blanket. They love to go on adventures, even if it’s just a drive to the tractor supply store.
These sweet, energetic, loving friends fill my heart and I cannot imagine four better companions.

February | the Month of Love! The abundance of red hearts, candy, roses, cards and cute gifts available in stores and online offer hints that February 14th, Valentine’s Day, is fast approaching. It’s the day set aside to celebrate the special people in our lives. Not as well advertised is another day to celebrate the special pets in our lives. February 20th is Love Your Pet Day. We love the special people in our lives every day, Valentine’s Day is an encouragement to let them know just how special they are to us. And, likewise, we love our pets every day, Love Your Pet Day is an encouragement to let them know just how special they are to us. To celebrate the incredible bond that exists between people and pets. A day to thank them for their unconditional love and devotion, to let them know we appreciate the joyous, tail wagging excited greetings we get when we come home even if we’ve only been away for a short time.
VALENTINE’S DAY & LOVE YOUR PET DAY
There are many ways we can celebrate and show our love for the special pets in our lives. One way is to give them lots of attention and pampering. If your dog loves to walk, take an extra walk allowing time to stop for sniffing. For the treat-loving cat or dog a special tasty treat is definitely a winner. If your pet is a cuddler, spend extra time cuddling and doing belly rubs. Give them the gift of your undivided attention. Pets are intuitive, they know when we’re present and when we’re doing other things and not really with them.
Mark FEBRUARY 20TH AS A RED-LETTER DAY on your calendar and commit to spending some extra quality time with your pet. A day to show appreciation for the happiness and love pets give us 365 days a year.

Pets & HEART HEALTH February is American Heart Month – the month for lovers and all things heart related; an encouragement to take care of our hearts! Latest statistics show that almost half of U.S. adults have some form of cardiovascular disease. Research also shows that it is possible that over 75% of heart disease can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle and managing risk factors.
Pets Are Good For Us; possibly they’re
the best prescription for a healthy heart. As pet lovers we know that our pets are good for us; we know this by our own experience yet it is always exciting to find research that supports this. Numerous studies have been done looking at the relationship between pet ownership and cardiovascular health. The American Heart Association reviewed these studies and issued a Scientific Statement* connecting pet ownership to the prevention of cardiovascular disease. A few of the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease are lack of physical activity, social isolation or loneliness, depression, stress and anxiety. The studies focused more on dogs and cats but we believe that all pets can have a positive impact on our health. A few of those ways are:
INCREASED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND FITNESS
Dogs increase opportunities to exercise. It could be a number of short walks or longer walks and runs but it all adds up to increased physical activity. A side benefit many times is weight loss. Establishing a dog-walking routine encourages regular physical activity and is healthy for both our dogs and us.
REDUCED LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION
Pets help manage loneliness and depression and provide companionship and unconditional love. Health experts state that loneliness is reaching epidemic levels and is affecting people of all ages and life situations. It is now recognized as a serious threat to our health. Researchers feel that because pets provide companionship and comfort they reduce loneliness significantly and increase health and longevity. The majority of pet owners say their pet makes them feel less lonely. Pet owners that have formed a close bond with their pet report the greatest positive impact on loneliness. 28
Las Vegas Pet Scene Magazine • January/February 2024
DECREASED STRESS AND ANXIETY
Reducing stress is important for heart health. Pets often provide a buffer for our stress reactions and research suggests that they also help reduce our perceptions of stress. Pets help reduce anxiety; just a few minutes of stroking a pet can release a number of “feel good” hormones including serotonin and oxytocin; plus decrease the stress hormone cortisol. Being with pets seems to release these calming endorphins. Simple activities such as watching fish swim, laughing at the funny antics of a cat or dog, or watching a cute mouse nibble on its food can help create joy and happiness. Just three minutes of snuggling or cuddling with a pet will flood our brains with the love hormone oxytocin triggering joy and happiness. In summary the studies suggest that having a pet is good for our heart health. Being a good pet parent helps to cultivate a lifestyle that contributes to having a healthy heart. Spending time with our pet, developing the bond that exists between us and our pet, enjoying and appreciating them will help them live longer and healthier lives as well.

KEEP YOUR PET BIRDS
Entertained!
When it comes to keeping my two cockatiels entertained, I always try keeping them engaged not only inside the cage but also outside the cage. One particular thing I keep in mind as caregiver for these two parrots is that they are not meant to stay within the cage, but to explore and fly around. Because of this, whenever I have downtime at home and not at work I try giving as much time as possible outside of the cage. On top of this, it is just as important to keep engaging with them as they are social creatures. Whether it is by feeding them with seeds and millet from my hand as a positive reinforcement in discipline, or simply talking and whistling to them, it lets them know that my attention is undivided. In regards to toys, whether inside or outside the cage, I’ve found that my birds like toys that can be shredded up to find little treats inside. One of the simplest toys that can be easily made at home is by taking plastic straws, folding one end, filling up the straws with seeds, and folding the other end of the straw. The straws can then be placed anywhere in the cage
By Derek Kline
or hung with a natural hemp cord just like any dangling bird toy at a pet store. Similarly, a fingertrap can also be stuffed with millet in which they can tear into. While they go through these handmade toys within hours (not even a single day), it’s nonetheless a safe and highly cost efficient way to keep them constantly engaged and curious. As far as other means go, it is always good to move the perches and toys around at least every once a week so that the parrots don’t get bored with the same setup. Another fun little trick to get them motivated is to hide their base food in one of multiple dishes so that they can forage around for it. There are, of course, many other ways to have your feathery friends in a continuous state of amusement, and as a fairly new bird owner I am always willing to learn more ways to keep them engaged. While birds in general require an ample amount of attention, in doing so will let their personalities shine and they will become one of your most loving companions.

February Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month Rabbits are cute and loveable; they are the third most adopted pet in the United States. Dogs and cats are the top two popular pets. Because bunnies are so adorable many people buy them on impulse without knowing anything about their care or needs. They often think of them as beginner pets that don’t live long, can be caged and are low maintenance. When people discover how much care and maintenance is really required they often surrender them to shelters or abandon them outdoors. Sadly they are the third most relinquished pet.
W
e believe that responsible pet parenting begins with selecting the right pet for you. Pet rabbits make great pets for the right person or family and will provide them with lots of joy, love and companionship. If you’re thinking of adopting a pet rabbit here are a few important facts to consider before making that decision. Rabbits live a long time – their average lifespan is from eight to 12 years Rabbits are indoor pets. They do live in cages but need time every day outside of their cage. It is important to bunny-proof your house or provide an area large enough for them to safely roam, explore and get exercise. As with all pets, rabbits require socialization and enrichment activities to help stimulate them to prevent boredom.
Many rabbits are shy in a new environment and resist being handled. It is very important to spend time talking softly to them before trying to pet and handle them. For more information about pet rabbits check the website for House Rabbit Society www.rabbit.org.
Adopting a rabbit is a big step. If after doing research you want a pet rabbit, please consider adoption. There are so many wonderful bunnies waiting to find great homes! NEW YEAR’S
RESOLUTIONS By C. A. Ritz
Wow, another new year! Perhaps January and February are sentimental months for you with many of last
year’s memories fleeting as we plan for this future year. If you’re like many Americans, those goals may include weight loss/a healthier diet, more exercise, reduction of expenses, and focus on relationships you want to keep or improve. We think on what we hope to do, accomplish, and become this year. As pet owners, we may have a few goals which involve our darling furry ones, too. (Feathers and scales not excluded.) When viewing current statistics, not much has changed from previous years in the US. Statistics tell us about 74% of us set goals. However, in the past, less than 9% of people kept their New Year’s resolutions and 80% gave up by February! So, why make resolutions? Instead, consider flexible plans. Think over what is needed to reach your goals.
GOALS, YOU AND YOUR PET
Whether or not you make an official New Year’s resolution, you will find successful planners set reasonable goals. So, as you set goals for yourself and/or your pet, think about what is necessary, trim away what is not, and take manageable steps.
SETTING PET GOALS Here’s a few goal ideas for your pet you may not find other places: Relationships require care. Get 1) RELATIONS: organized, change your mind if needed, and enjoy time with your pet.
Read to your Pet! Educators and Pet 2) READING: Scene Magazine recognize this bonds you and your pet while aiding your literacy!
Train your pet. People may be polite 3)RESPECT: but often don’t enjoy being pounced. We admit most poor behavior in pets is from lack of time spent training.
Gain knowledge about your pet’s 4) RESEARCH: disposition, breed, mode of communication, training techniques, and so forth.
If you promised to feed, bathe, 5) RESPONSIBILITY: brush, clean up after, walk, and hug your pet, do it! This is a great way to practice the life skill of Follow Through (INTEGRITY) which will benefit your whole family now, and you, in years to come.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
IF you must make a resolution: • RESOLVE TO DREAM
• RESOLVE TO LIVE WITH PURPOSE, TAKING NEW CHALLENGES ONE AT A TIME • RESOLVE TO BE MINDFUL IN THE MOMENTS OF LIFE, APPRECIATING OTHERS
NOTE: The real goal is harmony after all. Balance allows for harmony to flourish. Have a tremendous year with family, friends, and beloved furry ones! C.A. Ritz ~ Author and Illustrator www.facebook.com/TigersWorldChildrensBook
