Signs of spring are more subtle in our warmer climate yet they are still visible. Nature is awakening - everything seems refreshed and renewed. Calendars are filling up with many fun-filled events for all members of the family including our furry children. Holidays and special pet-themed days provide opportunities for celebration, specialness, and lightheartedness. March and April also have many pet-themed occasions that serve as helpful reminders for us to focus on specific pet issues of importance. nown for being irresistibly cute, rabbits have become the 3rd most popular pet in the United States. Although these charming and personable animals can be very tempting, their unique needs and behaviors aren’t suited for every home. So before rushing into that 10-year plus commitment, here are some things to take into consideration.

BUNNY HOUSING

Though many believe a rabbit can live outside in a hutch or tucked away in a small cage, bunnies need space and a safe indoor environment to be at their happiest and healthiest. These sociable and highly communicative animals thrive on interaction, and should be kept in the house as part of the family. Perhaps of even greater importance are the dangers of the outdoors. From hawks to heat, flies to fear, all pose risks to the health and life of a bunny. Indoor housing is such a crucial aspect to a rabbit’s proper care that reputable rescues will not adopt to those planning outdoor accommodations.

ALLERGIES

Countless rabbits are surrendered to shelters each year after the owner has discovered they are allergic to their bunny, or the food and bedding their bunny requires. If you have allergies to animals, or sensitivities to hay and grasses, you might want to take note. Consider testing your reaction by visiting the rabbits at your local shelter. It could save your nose and bunny from a lot of upset later on.

Providing for your bunny’s medical needs is an important aspect of their care, though finding a qualified veterinarian may prove difficult. Rabbits require an “exotics” vet, which are far less common and often more expensive. Given that bunnies have unique health concerns, which often need prompt attention, having a qualified vet within a reasonable distance is key. Before making the commitment, search for rabbit savvy veterinarians in your area, and ask yourself how far you are willing to travel and how much you’re able to afford.

HOME ENVIRONMENT

Bunnies can make playful and affectionate pets, but it’s important to remember they are prey animals, sensitive to their surroundings. Given that they are quick to react to loud noises and sudden movement, they are more suitable to calm, quieter homes. Children and additional pets are also a concern and great care has to be taken to keep your rabbit safe, both physically and mentally. A stressed rabbit is an unhappy and unhealthy rabbit. It’s important to keep in mind that even the most well-behaved pet or child might chase a bun that runs, and even the most affectionate child can injure a bun unintentionally. So consider the environment you’d be introducing a bunny to and make their safety your priority.

Rabbits are the third most abandoned pet, filling shelters across the country. Sadly, most are surrendered because the owner wasn’t prepared for the level of care a rabbit requires. By doing your research beforehand, you can learn if a bunny is a good fit for you prior to making the commitment.

in Las Vegas is one of my favorite times of the year. The desert comes alive again after a winter rest and explodes with life. So grab the leash, its time for you and your four-legged friend to hit the trails and have some fun! Weather can change quickly during this time of year so be prepared with extra layers and extra water in case the weather changes in either direction. It is also the time when our desert wildlife comes alive so be prepared for more critters out on the trail with a watchful eye and a camera.

Here are some of our favorite spring hikes:

FIRST CREEK –

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area The parking area for this hike is located off Charleston Road between Red Rock Canyon scenic loop and the town of Blue Diamond. Looking across the desert along the trail from the parking lot and you would have no idea that a waterfall and pool await you just down the trail. This 2.2 mile hike is a favorite with both dogs and kids alike. The main trail takes you from the parking lot into the canyon but if you want to find the waterfall and pool – take a right just past a mile into the hike and drop down into the small canyon. The turn can be a bit obscure so check out http://www. birdandhike.com/Hike/Red_Rocks/First_Cr_Falls/_First_Creek.htm for more detailed information. WHITE DOME LOOP – Valley of Fire State Park

The southwest is known for narrow, rock-walled canyons called slot canyons. The structure and mystery of walking through twists and turns makes these canyons my favorite. This 1.1 mile is located at the end of the White Domes road in the Valley of Fire State Park. The trail begins in the parking lot then heads down into a wash. The remnant stone structure that the trail passes is an old western movie set from the 1960s. Once you reach the wash bottom head right through a small but fun slot canyon. Just outside the slot canyon, the trails heads to the right again and loops around, eventually back to the parking area. For more information contact the Valley of Fire State Park at 702-397-2088.

LONE MOUNTAIN –

Summerlin area of Las Vegas Short hike, good workout, wonderful views….what more can you ask for? Located right off the west side of Lone Mountain, this hike is a great one for days when you want to get out but don’t have a lot of time. The trail begins off Vegas Vista Trail where it dead-ends to the north. The trail leads from there up to a small saddle on the ridge then to the south to the summit. Fantastic views and the elevation change make for a good workout as well.

Home is where we should feel safe and protected; the same should go for your pets, but unfortunately home is precisely where thousands of dogs and cats become ill every year! Do you know what the most common household toxins are and how to keep your pets safe? Some toxins cause mild and transient effects, but many of them can cause permanent damage and even death.

ost toxins can be grouped into a few general categories:

1) RECREATIONAL COMPOUNDS; such as Tobacco, marihuana, cocaine. 2) FOOD ITEMS; such as caffeine, chocolate, onions, raisins, grapes, garlic, almonds, macadamia nuts, avocados, alcohol, uncooked or rotten foods, bread dough, some mushrooms, apricots. 3) PEST CONTROL/ INSECTICIDE PRODUCTS; such as those used around the house and products intended for topical. 4) HOME PRODUCTS; such as gum containing xylitol, glue, lead paint, liquid potpourri, mothballs, toilet tank drop-ins, pool and hot tub chemicals, antifreeze, rodent poisons and baits, insect sprays and chemical traps, batteries, cleaning products, glow in the dark jewelry, silica gels. 5) FERTILIZERS/PLANTS; such as Lilies, Amaryllis bulb, Sago palm, Oleander, Azaleas and Kalanchoe. Rhododendron, Schefflera, Begonia, Bleeding Heart, Caladium, Castor bean, Heavenly bamboo, Choke cherry, Larkspur, Dumb cane, Foxglove, Hydrangea, Jimson week, Lantana, Mistletoe berries, Morning glory, Oak, Peaches, Pencil cactus plant, Philodendron, Rhubarb leaves, Shamrock, Yew. 6) METALS; such as pennies, Iron found in multivitamins if eaten in large quantities. 7) MEDICATIONS; such as birth control pills or many other prescriptions for people. Even your own pet’s medication can be toxic if eaten all at once or given by the wrong route.

depression/lethargy, wobbly gait, muscle tremors, seizures, and in severe cases death. Timing is everything when dealing with toxins and minimizing the time between ingestion and treatment is crucial in successful managing of toxicity. In some cases (not all!) your veterinarian may need to make your pet vomit to avoid the complete absorption of the toxin by the body; this will only be successful if vomiting is induced within a couple of hours after ingestion. Please, don’t attempt to make your pet vomit at home; this should only be attempted by professionals with appropriate medications to avoid causing further injury to your pet. After inducing vomiting your veterinarian may also give your pet activated charcoal; this is used to bind toxins and further avoid absorption of particles left behind. Your pet will therefore

have black stool for a few days. The third step in decontamination is fluids; your veterinarian may recommend giving your pet IV fluids to dilute absorbed toxins. Your veterinarian will be able to recommend what is best for your pet depending on the toxin ingested (remember keep the label or packaging), the amount and the time post- ingestion. In order to avoid emergency visits to the vet keep all toxins in a safe place and ensure your pets cannot get to them. Pets have been known to eat many things we wouldn’t consider appetizing, so please don’t assume they won’t, keep them out of reach.

Contact your veterinarian as soon as you realize your pet has ingested a toxin, it may save his or her life!

So you come home from work and notice your pet has eaten a toxin. What do you do? SAVE IT! Save the packaging or a piece of it for identification, this will allow for appropriate treatment if necessary, then contact your Veterinarian or Poison Control immediately! Depending on the type and the quantity of the toxin ingested your pet may exhibit quite a wide range of symptoms. Some of these symptoms (clinical signs) are: vomiting/ diarrhea, drooling, increased urination, increased thirst, respiratory distress, pale, blue or red gums (normal should be pink), red spots on the gums or the skin, 12

Bella, a long-haired Chihuahua who was a graduation gift from her mother, is her best friend and helps Brittany deal with her struggle with anxiety.

BRITTANY’S STORY

I was twenty three years old when I had my first anxiety attack. Chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, and nausea. I thought I was having a heart attack. That experience was the beginning of my journey towards managing my anxiousness. I have learned many tips and tricks to regulate my anxiousness. However, no method has helped me quite as much as my pet Chihuahua, Bella. She has played a huge role in helping me manage my anxiety through the years. Everyday when I come home I am greeted with lots of love and excitement! She always knows when I’m feeling anxious because she will come and sit next to me, and gently nuzzle her head into my hand. She accompanies me when I travel, and always keeps me calm when I’m feeling nervous. Her presence alone helps me get through the day Even when I have weak moments, which inevitably happen from time to time, knowing that she is counting on me to take care of her, always keeps me going. She has made me a stronger person.

My World My Way One of Brittany’s goals is to help teens and pre-teens by spreading the message Just Be You. She developed a workshop, My World My Way, that lets young people know that it is OK to be who they are and teaches the importance of staying true to yourself. For more information:

is always such a refreshing and energizing time of year. We are ready to get outdoors and enjoy the warm sunshine, the cool breezes, and the aromatic smells of the season. Like we humans, our pets are ready for all of the same exciting things that we enjoy about spring. It’s time to get out of the house and have some FUN! A great way to plan some spring activities is to get out and explore your neighborhood. Pack up your pup and go for a tongue-dangling, earflapping drive! Seek out new parks, new walking trails, and even petfriendly restaurants or coffee shops. By avoiding the streets you normally travel, you may discover some hidden treasures that you never knew existed. Finding new places to play and walk will be enjoyable and refreshing to you and your dog. A new park filled with leaves, sticks, and new SMELLS might be exactly what your dog has been waiting for all winter! Make a puppy play date with a friend and plan an afternoon together exploring one of your new-found places. If your dog prefers playtime at home, this would be a great time to bring out some old forgotten toys or maybe even a new one. Tennis balls, soccer balls, stuffed animals, and the infamous tuga-war sock always make for a fun-filled

time. For something different, you may want to try a little agility training. See if your dog will jump over a stick or crawl under one. Cardboard boxes can also add a lot of excitement. Find some large boxes and make a tunnel for your dog to run through. You may have to go through first, but that’s all part of the fun! After a rambunctious romp in the yard, maybe a run through the sprinkler is in order? Or, you may both be ready for a relaxing rest in the shade of your favorite tree.

When it comes to springtime enjoyment, we cannot forget our feline friends. What are their favorite activities? Taking a long, well-deserved nap in the warm spring sunshine? Yes, you can share that with them. Whether it’s an indoor spot beneath their favorite window or a cozy outdoor corner of the yard, your cat will enjoy your company while you sit beside them reading a good book. (Occasional petting will be required.) During your cat’s more active time of the day, try out some new cat toys or a new cat game. As any cat owner can attest, virtually ANYTHING can become a cat toy! An empty tape dispenser, a small hair brush, or even a plastic milk lid can miraculously

We survived the young kitten stage!

Kittens are sweet, adorable, playful, and cuddly. It was fun and exciting but now we’re beginning to experience some well-earned feline serenity in our homes. Wait something else is happening! We’re now living with a cat who is suddenly becoming very difficult to live with. Our sweet adorable kitten is becoming an adolescence – are we prepared for that? What parent is ever prepared for the challenges of adolescence? Originally the life stages of a cat were simply divided into three: kittens, adults, and seniors. Current research suggests that a cat’s life can now be classified into six stages: Kitten, Junior, Prime, Mature, Senior, and Geriatric. The Junior Stage starts at six months and ends at two years (human years – 12 to 24 years). Many cat professionals call the six to 18 month period Feline Adolescence.

And, of course, any discussion about adolescence must include hormones! Adolescence is when kittens reach sexual maturity. We can blame some of their behaviors on hormones. As a young male matures he has a need to mark his territory to let his Feline adolescence competitors know to stay away. The undesirable trait of spraying does not last can usually be avoided by having forever. a male kitten neutered before puberty. A female comes into her first heat sometime between five and ten months. It is not a pleasant experience for pet parents to endure: yowling, rolling, and rubbing for about ten to fourteen days. She may also urinate around the house as she “advertises” for mates. Consider spaying your female kitten before her first heat to avoid this unpleasant experience for her and yourself. How to survive this time? Well, with lots of love, patience and wisdom. Cultivating a sense of humor is essential. It is important to have clear boundaries because kittens may simply misbehave to test their limits and yours. Being consistent is important. Yet it is also important to choose your battles wisely – being too strict could create undesirable behaviors rather than correct them. Allow your kitten to dominate certain areas and safely explore their world. Make sure they have plenty of interactive toys that will engage their brains and stimulate their natural curiosity. They need opportunities to hunt, stalk, and chase. A tall cat tree will give him an outlet for climbing and scratching. Daily play times will help channel their energy toward appropriate and safe activities. Unfortunately some of these adolescent behaviors stretch the patience of many people and they start searching for a new home for their cat. Feline adolescence does not last forever – it is challenging and will stretch our patience.

One day, however, we’ll wake up to find ourselves living with a serene, well-behaved adult cat. Our home will be blessed with feline serenity – well with as much serenity as a home with a cat can have!

What can we expect during this time? Like their human counterpart, they will push the boundaries and test our limits. They are full of energy as they make their mark in their world. Their world has opened up and they want to explore everything in it. They stalk, pounce, paw and attack everything. They will play until they drop from exhaustion. Why Do Dogs Yawn?

If a dogs eyes plead, mouth offers up a big yawn, and then there is a flop to the ground, the pup may be bored. More often, a yawn is a symptom of stress. If a dog’s body language is ridged and tense, a yawn may indicate nervousness. If this happens while training a dog, this may be an expression of feeling pressured. During competitions it may puzzle the owner to see their pup yawn. By yawning, the dog is preparing its body for action by filling its lungs and boosting the flow of oxygen to the brain. You may try that the next time you compete and see if it works as well for you.

Why do Dogs Circle Before Laying Down? It is believed that this is a genetic behavior handed down from dogs ancestors. They had to sleep outside in sometimes harsh elements. By walking around a spot, they would stamp down grass, leaves or snow and create something akin to a nest. So whether it is their bed or yours, the need to create a nest still exists.

Why Do Cats Rub Against You? Cats cheeks contain glands that deposit their own unique scent. By rubbing against a person, place or thing, cats are marking off what they consider to belong to them in the home.

Why Do Some Birds Talk and Other Birds Do Not Talk? Dr. Laurie Hess, a veterinarian for birds and exotics, says that birds generally learn to speak by repeating what they hear, but it can be hard to get some birds to talk. With enough practice she feels that many species can be taught to speak even if it is just a few words. So if you are determined to have a talking bird, have a lot of patience; use a short word, and repeat it over and over in the same tone. Give your bird a reward even if it is not remotely clear what the sound is. Before you know it…

Why Do Rabbits Grind Their Teeth? One Reason: Rabbits grind their teeth because they are enjoying what you are doing and are very comfortable and pleased. When you hold them gently or stroking their head and body, this sort of grinding sounds like a purr the teeth are lightly and quickly grinding in a rhythmic fashion. Rabbits also grind their teeth when they are in pain or extremely uncomfortable. This sort of grinding is more like a crunching sound; it is louder than the purring sound, and it is not rhythmic. If your rabbit is in this much pain, something is seriously wrong and it needs help from the vet immediately.

What Am I Getting Into?

A pet is a responsibility and getting a pet means that its life is in your hands. If you already help your family by doing chores and keeping promises, you may be ready to own an animal.

What’s In It For Me?

If you ask this question, you may not be ready for a pet! But, there are some rewards that just happen when you really care about an animal. For example, years ago our family of six could not agree on a name for the stray kitten that hid behind our front door’s plant. Clearly there were mixed emotions on taking her in after we could not find anyone that claimed her as their lost pet. Some in our family thought, “Furball” and “Stupid” were “good” names. But the rest of us felt, “Angel,” “Miss Kitty,” “Princess,” and “Baby” were better. No two agreed on any name! Since our youngest girl had the job of feeding the sweet little cat, when it was dinner time, she called, “Baby? Baby! Baby come and eat.” Hearing the sound of the closet door opening and food being put into a dish brought the cat running. When her girl called “Baby” every time kitty was fed, there was an effect! It did not take too long for the kitty to choose a name for herself. Can you guess which name when called brought the cat running? That daughter, although the youngest, took initiative and was responsible, consistent, and patient. Taking care of your pet has rewards!

So What Can I Do To Show My Thanks? Let’s face it. Often that fluffy pet will be your best friend. It will listen to your secrets, make you laugh, and snuggle away your tears. Remember that word “initiative” you learned in school? Initiative is taking action without having to be pushed by other people. Using initiative can bring joy to you, your family, and your pet.

Take Advice u Read about Your Pet Your teacher tells you to, “Go home and read over the weekend”. Reading will help you in school and you can learn about your pet. There are stories and guides that advise how people have kept their furry or feathery friends healthy and safe. One of our children used to sit and read to her pet! It became a great family time, too. u Talk to a Pet Expert Animals were drawn to me from the time I was little. But I did need advice from the animal doctor to take care of them. It’s okay to ask questions!

TRAINING can be part of exercise and 2 playtime. Most animals want to make you happy and you can find training advice at the pet store or in magazines and books.

KEEP PETS BATHED and clean up after 3 them for everyone’s health. PUT ITEMS AWAY that if swallowed or 4 stepped on can hurt your pet. LOVE IS THE EASY PART. Animals are easy to love. As you become responsible, consistent, and show patience, most animals will grow to trust and love you, too.

Cleaner & Healthier BEDROOM By Gail Mayhugh

e all love our furry family and many of us let them on our beds and even let them sleep with us. Heck, to be honest, sometimes it seems that they are letting us sleep with them. Mine have their own beds for during the night, but they come up in the morning after my husband leaves for work. I love to snuggle with them, but really when Millie decides to stake her claim there’s no moving her. Then Matilda just has to roll all over my husband’s pillows, at least it’s his and not mine. Yes, for non-pet lovers this is unsanitary and even thought of as gross. But they love us and we love them so we have to think smarter and work harder to keep our beds neat and clean. Even if your pets don’t get up on the bed, there is pet hair wherever they are. As well as oil from their fur, slobber puddles and wet marks from licking their paws. So how can you think smarter and work less to keep your bedroom looking nice and clean? Of course, it really does go without saying, start by keeping them clean. The more you brush the less flying hair you’ll have. Pet hair seems to be the number one complaint from any pet owner and I’m no different. I know my house it filled no matter what I do, brush, vacuum, dust, it’s never ending. But can you imagine what it would be like if we didn’t keep on top of it. So in the bedroom my first suggestion is to use washable bedding. I know this is sometimes hard to find for the look you want, but you have to decide your tolerance level. I use duvet covers and throw them in the wash at least every other week. Now make sure to also wash your matching pillow shams at the same time otherwise they’ll be different colors pretty quick. I also put a cup of white vinegar in the washer to help get out the doggie smell, plus it’s a natural fabric softener. And no, you don’t smell the vinegar once everything is dried. Along with duvet covers, watch for matelassé coverlets and quilts which you can use or throw over the bed. They handle repeated washing and their tight quilting helps resists toenail snags.

If you can’t find something washable, have it made. Sheets work great and have matching pillow covers you can use as your shams. I’ve done this many times for my clients. If you have bedding which requires dry cleaning, you can keep the hair down with a quick vacuum or a tumble in the drier. Forget silk, chintz or my favorite pet-hair magnet, velvet. Instead discover the joys of Crypton. I’ve mentioned it before when taking about upholstery. It’s a nearly indestructible, synthetic fabric that’s breathable, stain-resistant and many are super-soft. William Wegman, the artist known for his Weimaraner photos, has designed a line of Crypton fabrics that are whimsical featuring his famous weimaraners. You can check out the beauty of Crypton fabrics online at www.CryptonFabrics.com. Another great option is indoor/outdoor fabric and Ultrasuede®. Ultrasuede® is one of my favorite, go-to petfriendly fabrics. Almost all are machine-washable and feel as smooth as real suede. The fabric stays cool and comfortable in all climates, which is perfect for Las Vegas. For those who have a Fluffy that likes to rub along the side of your bed or Frisky that likes to play hide and seek underneath, I have two suggestions for you. First, put a fitted sheet on your box spring to keep it clean. Works great since it can be washed, which is better than steam cleaning the box springs. Second, along with a washable dust ruffle you can have one made that will velcro to the fitted sheet on your box spring. Makes it a breeze to take off and wash or have dry cleaned. So much easier than pulling the mattress off to get to the dust ruffle. It’s important to have a pretty bedroom to come home to at the end of the day. Come to this year’s annual National Junior Ranger Day, April 25 at Lake Mead National Recreation Area and meet one of the newest members of the park’s education outreach team, Cooper, a teacup Yorkshire terrier. Weighing in at only three pounds, he might just be the smallest and cutest Jr Bark Ranger mascot you’ll ever meet. The event takes place at Boulder Beach Picnic Area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids of all ages are welcome. After families check in at the event, they’re encouraged to visit various stations. Once kids have visited at least nine stations, then they are eligible to become official Lake Mead Junior Rangers. They take the Junior Ranger Pledge and receive either a badge or patch (their choice), an official Junior Ranger card and a certificate. This year’s certificate will be “pawtographed” by Cooper. At this year’s event you will also meet Charlotte, a golden retriever who is a friend of the cartoon character Bobber the Water Safety dog. Charlotte distributes free booklets about Bobber’s adventures at Lake Mead. The booklets are bi-lingual. Charlotte’s message is quite simple: “Wear Your Lifejacket!” A third dog participating this year is Onyx, a German Shepherd. Onyx is a working K-9 and his handler will be conducting demonstrations to highlight the work he does on the law enforcement team. These dogs are part of the annual event that will provide a mix of experiences for kids. Boulder City Library will join in the fun with a storytelling corner. Nevada Department of Wildlife will encourage everyone to practice their fishing skills with a rod casting activity.

The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Aquatics Division with its youth lifeguarding program will team up with its mascot “Rad Tad” to teach about the A, B, C, Ds of drowning prevention. They are part of a broader water safety education team at the event that includes “Coastie,” the talking robot boat sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Southern Nevada Sea Partners. Joining “Rad Tad” and “Coastie” are two more mascots: “Smokey Bear” will be there to spread the word about wildland fire prevention, and “Mojave Max” will share his love for his fellow tortoises and the Mojave Desert. Want to learn more about Mojave Desert reptiles? Visit this station to see and touch some reptiles up-close and personal. There will be other interactive tables, as well, making small nature journals, digging in an archeology “site,” painting, nature writing, bird watching, identifying native plants and playing volunteer bingo. Also learn about Lake Mead as a “dog friendly park”. How about mixing in a little bit of kids music? A music station with percussion instruments should get kids dancing and moving to the sounds of recorded songs about nature. Toss in an inflatable earth ball and everyone gets involved.

National Junior Ranger Day at Lake Mead National Recreation Area falls at the end of National Park Week and is a kick-off for the National Park Service Centennial. It’s a celebration of kids, the National Park Service and its partners, and a hopeful future for generations of families.

Hello, my name is Keiko, a female Lilac Crowned Amazon who is happy to be living with my parents, Ken & Noël for almost 2 years. We like to call this place Hebernoit Habitat. I haven’t quite learned to say my new name, but I still know who I am and that I am loved. Since my first two human families passed away, this is my fifth home since I was born and named Paco. I guess they wanted a boy, but guess what? I’m a girl! Thanks go to our Board Certified Avian veterinarian, Dr. K! I have known her my whole life and she has always helped me find a new home and keep me healthy and happy. I have 11 brothers: Australian Shepherds - Darwin, Rembrandt & Maverick; Blue & Gold Macaws Paradise & DaVinci; African Grays - Fernando, Neubert & Elliott; Tucson the Moluccan Cockatoo, Newton the Cockatiel and John the Red Factor Canary. I have 12 sisters: Libby the Australian Shepherd; Cats - Natalie, Nikita, Josephine & Annabelle; Cockatiels - Olivia & Paloma; Priscilla the Rose-Breasted Cockatoo, Pedra the Bronze-Wing Pionus, Maggie the Goffin Cockatoo, Sabrina the Scarlet Macaw, and Victoria the White-Front Amazon. I stay in the bottom half of a double cage with my older sister, Victoria. She can be a drama queen sometimes, so I especially like sitting on a stand that I brought with me. I do spend some time in my cage when it’s meal time and when I go to sleep. I get a regular diet of pellets and seeds with occasional beans, grains, fruits, vegetables and nuts. My favorite treats are apples, peanuts, almonds, popcorn, toast, clementines, peppers, carrots and bananas, though not necessarily in that order. We do go outside for baths with the garden hose mister, but only if it’s not too windy, hot or chilly. I don’t always like my bath and I appreciate that my parents can tell when I don’t. When I’m in the mood, I like to whistle a few tunes and say a few things. I especially like to say “Hello Paco,” to which the reply is “Hello Keiko.” Sometimes I just like to say “Hello.” I really don’t like it when DaVinci or Elliott try to pick on me. I just like to hang out and chill with my sister Priscilla. We’ll be at the next LVAS Bird Mart with some of our siblings, so please come by and say “Hello”!
