Happy Holidays! This is truly the most wonderful time of the year. This year has reminded us that time is precious and we must make the best of every situation. Even though some of us may not be able to see our extended family this year, it doesn't mean we can't send them a special gift to show them how much they mean to us. We've compiled some of the latest and greatest gift ideas from one end of the country to the other and found something for everyone on your list. My favorite part of the holiday season is decorating! Every year, we do an evening of decorating with our two little ones and last year they had the opportunity to hang the ornaments on the tree. The ornaments were of course all color coordinated and separated into categories to ensure they were the right color scheme and a mixture of textures, but that's beside the point! I believe that's what one would call "controlled chaos"! The tree looked amazing and they were very proud of their accomplishment. We also baked cupcakes and decorated them with icing sporting beautiful Christmas trees for Santa and they were amazed that Santa loved their baking! At the end of the day, take away the decorations, gifts and endless baked goods and all you have left are the memories that you create! Welcome to Christmas at the Manor! This heritage home, called the Cameron Home, is nestled in the tree tops with ocean views just outside of Vancouver. Built in 1916, this estate home has been crafted into a stunning family home full of charm and heritage. When thinking of Christmas, I am sure we are all pulled back to our childhood Christmas memories. When we teamed up with Homes for the Holidays Vancouver in support of Kid’s Help Phone, we wanted to pay a nod to all those loving childhood memories that every child deserves to have.
This formal living room is a moody space with deep royal blue sea grass walls that lend perfectly to green and gold accents and pops of textures. We took three artificial wreaths and tied these together above the fireplace. We added ferns, twigs, gold painted dĂŠcor to create a stunning piece that would reflect off the mirror fireplace wall. This organic piece added depth and charm to the space. We used a metal basket in place of a tree stand to add charm and texture. We kept the ornaments simple, layering golds, tarnished metals and textured glass balls all in the same monochromatic tone. We layered in gold painted branches, ferns and real greenery that you might find in ones dining room centerpiece. This added an old world charm with a modern, sophisticated twist. On the piano, we stacked three wreaths on top of each other and filled a glass bowl with balls to create a feature. This is a simple way to repurpose ornaments and items from around your home.
With a large open-concept rec room, we wanted to create a fun feature. We layered a few different tree types and sizes and pulled them all together with the simplistic grouping of exterior bulb lighting around the trees and a traditional Christmas train running around the base. With multiple sitting areas and spaces to gather, we kept the dÊcor very clean and relaxed by draping ferns around a table centerpiece of oversized ornaments from the Hudson’s Bay company.
Playing off the traditional furniture, area rug and light fixture, we wanted to add modern charm to the space with unique and organic touches. Draping ferns, tree trimmings and greens over the existing light fixture created a focal point with height. This replaces the need for a large center piece and gives everyone at the table ample space to have amazing conversation all around the table. We layered white, green and gold ornaments along the table to add depth and organic warmth to the space. Mixing Grandma’s china with modern pieces and adding a simple touch to the napkin added a relaxed yet traditional feel to the space. One simple way to create a unique plate setting is to hand write a name card and tuck it in the napkin for a personal touch. Add some tree trimmings and an antique found key for stylish texture.
Yes, we did! We added a Christmas tree to the son’s bedroom and played off the heritage and masculine feel of the traditional Hudson Bay color scheme. Adding a playful spin to the space, we carried the burlap theme through, mixing in chrome and shades of blue. A fun find was the addition of a sun bleached driftwood tree created by a local artist.

The backsplash in this contemporary kitchen already has a vivid color so the goal is to select decorations that do not interfere with but complement the overall design - a “less is more” approach. SEW YOUR OWN GOODIE BAGS
HOW TO DRY ORANGE SLICES
Little goodie bags make the perfect addition to each place setting for your holiday tablescape. Cut 3" x 12" strips from the fabric of your choice. For each bag, use one strip. Fold in a 1/4" seam twice along the short ends of the strip and sew into place. Fold strip in half with the pattern facing in and sew a 1/4" seam along the two sides. Flip fabric right side out and you have the perfect little bag for holiday treats (adjust the strips larger or smaller for different bag sizes depending on your needs!) Finish each bag by tying them shut with twine or ribbon and a custom gift tag painted in Chalk Paint® colors to match your fabric.
Dry your own orange slices for your holiday DIY projects! Simply cut oranges in approximately 1cm wide slices, place on a rack in the oven at 120°C (250°F) for 2-3 hours. Check and turn regularly to ensure they don't stick.

HANGING CENTERPIECE Save space on your holiday table with a statement -making hanging centerpiece! This idea can be done with very little expense and customized to suit your decor and the event itself! Both
examples on page 33 and page 35 start with a large branch suspended from the ceiling and then decorated with a variety of hanging items. On page 33, a chic, rustic look is created by hanging dried orange slices, pine cones, cinnamon sticks and fresh herbs using twine. On page 35, an ivy garland with a selection of Christmas ornaments creates a traditional look with a touch of sparkle. Other ideas might include a pine garland or twinkle lights - the options are endless! Use leftover decor pieces to keep it budget friendly! POTATO STAMP WRAPPING PAPER Turn simply white paper into chic, custom wrapping paper! Using a knife cut a potato in half width ways to create two circles. Then cut the design into the flat surface. Remember that you will be printing the design that is left on the design, and the areas removed will be negative space. Pour a small amount of Chalk Paint® in your desired colors onto a MixMat (be careful not to mix these together). Place the potato print into Chalk Paint® to load it with paint, dab it off on the MixMat so as to not overload the paper with paint. Clean your potato between turns, or concentrate on one color, leaving a space to go in with the other. Potato stamping can be used to customize other decor items as well! FAUX BONE INLAY TRAY Serve holiday beverages and treats on this stylish tray! Start with an inexpensive, unfinished tray from a craft store or an old tray if you have on hand! Apply two coats of Chalk Paint® in Athenian Black. Seal this with two coats of Chalk Paint® Gloss Lacquer. Once dry, lay the Annie Sloan Faux Bone Inlay Stencil within the tray – this stencil is made up of three parts, the central motif is one stencil, the border another, and the corners are a third piece. Make sure you’re happy with the overall layout, and then apply 2-3 coats of Pearlescent Glaze to the middle part. Once that’s dry, apply the Pearlescent Glaze to the border design, and then the corners. DOOR MATS: To prevent scratches, place mats both outside and inside entrances to reduce the dirt & debris being tracked into your home. REMOVE SHOES: Place a large area rug near the entrance where guests can place their shoes and prevent the dirt, grit and melting snow from outside being tracked across your floors. Maybe gift your guests some cozy slippers! BOOT TRAY: These are good to use all year round but especially over the holidays, with more frequent comings & goings and potentially wet and/or snowy weather. CHRISTMAS TREE: Use a waterproof tree stand mat or a plastic drain tray (commonly used under washing machines) to catch spills when watering the tree and regularly vacuum up dropped tree needles as they can scratch your floors. Some travelers are enchanted by the first snowfall, while others want to run to the warmest destination they can afford. In today’s uncertain climate, health experts agree that close-to-home vacations where you can stick to outdoor activities, are fairly low risk – as long as you take the necessary precautions. Thankfully, we live in a beautiful country with several great destinations to visit during this season. Let’s explore coast-tocoast and see what Canada has to offer! VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA is a wonderful place to start since it is a haven for those travelers who are looking for warmer weather. In the month of December, you can visit the Magic of Christmas at Butchart Gardens. In the evenings, the gardens are lit up as the Twelve Days of Christmas and carolers sing you through. There is also ice skating on the outdoor rink. The Victoria Public Market is an exciting place for die-hard shoppers. The Market is a hub of food, art and entertainment and
a community gathering place all year-round. The end of November is when you would need to visit if you want to see Light up the Castle at the Fairmont Empress Hotel and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA is a winter wonderland for skiers and snowboarders alike, although the après-ski atmosphere may give it a run for its money. From late December to early January, families can visit the Whistler Holiday Experience, a fun zone with mini-golf, video games, bouncy castles and more. Whistler Family Après is held twice a week during the winter season and offers many outdoor activities, such as sleigh rides, tobogganing, a snow maze and more. Not to be missed is the annual Christmas Eve carol service with the Whistler’s Children’s Chorus and you can have a pre-cooked Christmas dinner delivered to your accommodations. BANFF, ALBERTA is also known for its ski resorts. With three resorts within a short drive,

CHURCHILL, MANITOBA is not always people’s first choice for a winter vacation. Don’t expect it to be t-shirt weather but do expect an amazing experience. If you want to see the polar bears, you will need to visit during October or November when they are moving from their summer homes to Hudson Bay to hunt for seals. It isn’t the only time to visit though; Churchill is also a great destination for beluga whale-watching in the summer and birdwatching can be done all year. From January to March, it is the perfect destination to see the Northern Lights, as it is located directly under the aurora oval. Choose your viewing style: on a warm tundra buggy, under an aurora dome or at a remote eco-lodge. A fun daytime activity is hiring a crew and going dog sledding for the day. OTTAWA, ONTARIO is best known for its Rideau Canal Skateway from February to mid-March, where you can skate on the world’s largest skating rink. From November to January, you can also enjoy the Magic of Lights as you drive through a two-kilometre route, which includes the Enchanting Tunnel of Lights. In December, the family can enjoy a ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ walking tour with Christmas-themed ghost stories and interesting bits of history. And don’t forget that just a 30-minute drive away you can visit Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm with wagon rides, elves and lots of games for the family. QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC has several exciting winter activities for the whole family. Old Quebec
is transformed into a charming, European village where you can even find Santa from the end of November to the end of December. Since it is almost impossible for us to be in Europe this winter, here you can experience traditional German style Christmas markets while you imagine yourself floating down the rivers in Europe. From the end of December to February you can visit Festilumières at the Quebec Aquarium; an illuminated outdoor circuit featuring marine animals and games. Opening in January is the Hôtel de Glace, the only ice accommodation in North America. Its on-site bars, restaurants and accommodations really make it a must-see attraction. And let’s not forget about Carnaval de Québec at the beginning of February, which is one of the largest winter carnivals. CORNER BROOK, NEWFOUNDLAND is a haven for outdoor pursuits. It is known for its spectacular and pristine outdoors. It is one of the only places where you can enjoy ziplining, outdoors, in the winter. Nine ziplines up to 2000 ft. long give unique aerial views of the Humber Valley. Snowmobiling is also a popular sport in Newfoundland. If you visit Marble Mountain in March, you can watch the annual ‘Race on the Rock’ weekend of uphill drag races and snow cross events. Ice-fishing is another winter activity that is relished in this area of the country. What better way to spend a sunny day! Other available outdoor activities are cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, alpine skiing and cat-skiing. As you can see, the amount of winter activities and destinations in Canada are plentiful. Instead of staying at home all winter, take a vacation in this beautiful country. Practice social distancing but don’t forget to enjoy yourself as well.
