Emma is a Missouri A+ scholarship student pursuing her practical nursing certificate with plans to continue to get her associate’s degree in nursing. She will graduate from NCMC in May 2026 and then pursue her bachelor’s degree in nursing.
At NCMC, Emma is a student ambassador and is involved in SPNA (Student Practical Nursing Association), where she is the vice president. Her favorite class is the skills lab with Instructor Vel Westbrook. Emma said, “I enjoy the hands-on experiences and getting to do the skills we will do in the hospital. We recently packed
melons for wound care, and it was really cool.”
Emma’s favorite thing about NCMC is the relationships she builds with other students and the instructors. Emma said, “I enjoy the relationships I have with other peers, and the instructors get to know you and care, and you can tell they actually care.
The other day, Instructor Nichols checked in on me without me even asking. NCMC helps me so much, and the community is great.”
Each month, a student is nominated by a faculty or staff member to be featured as an Outstanding Student based on their dedication to educational success, attitude toward learning, and hard work in their field and activities.

Minutes from Oct. 22 Republican Committee
The Grundy County Republican Central Committee met Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024 at the Republican Headquarters to discussion the upcoming election and Amendment 3.
Chairman, Ben Thomas, called the meeting to order.
Dennis McDonald opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Secretary, Mary Axtell, read the minutes for the October 8th meeting. Minutes were approved as read.
Treasurer, J.A. Keuhn reported a starting balance of $4792.78 with expenditures of $2,367.45 and a deposit of $1375.00, netting a final balance of $3800.33. Treasurers reported was approved.
Chairman, Ben Thomas, discussed The Club for Growth Foundation. The Club has released its 2024 Missouri State Economic Scorecard, offering residents of the Show-Me State a detailed analysis into where each lawmaker stands on pol-
icy aimed to promote economic growth. It was noted that our Senator, Rusty Black, only scored a 42% with a lifetime score of only 39%. There were 5 Senators that scored 100%. Our Representative, Mazzie Christensen, scored high with an 88% with lifetime of 86%. There were 7 Representatives that scored 96%.
Dennis McDonald reported on the Movie, 1916 Project. The Assembly of God church has offered their sanctuary to show the 1916 Project on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6:30. We are inviting everyone in the county to come. This is a free event. The 1916 Project is a powerful documentary that uncovers the disturbing legacy of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood and her deep ties to the eugenics movement (a harmful pseudo-scientific belief aimed at 'improving' humanity by controlling who could reproduce. The ideology tar-
geted marginalized groupsespecially people of color, the poor and those with disabilities- justifying horrific policies like forced sterilizations and treating human lives as disposable). The film serves as a call to action for those seeking to understand the origins of America's moral decline and the forces at play in today's culture war.
Planned Parenthood receives $600 million taxpayer dollars every year.
Guest, Greg Coon, joined our meeting to discuss Amendment 6.
Discussion was made to canvas the town on Saturday, October 26. We need volunteers that are willing to go door to door with us to fight the passage of Amendment 3.
We will meet at the Republican Headquarters at 1:00 and divide in groups to canvas sections of town. We will return to the headquarters afterwards for a BBQ of hamburgers and hotdogs. We are
inviting the community and our church congregations to join us.
Discussion was made to have a meeting after the 1916 Project movie in one of the Sunday school classes, if needed before the election and a meeting after the election. A tentative date was made for Dec. 3rd with the place to be announced later.
A motion was made by Becky McDonald and a second by Chris Keuhn to send $250.00 each to, the Missourians Protecting Children and Families and the Missouri Right to Life PAC. It was approved.
Betty Lee made the motion to adjourn with a second by Nathan Rorebeck. The meeting was adjourned by a prayer from Dennis McDonald.
Our Republican Headquarters are open MondayWednesday-Friday from 12:00-5:00 through election day.

GRAND RIVER GARDEN CLUB
Submitted by Karalyn Thompson
Master gardener Gary Schuett, Trenton, spoke to the Grand River Garden club members Monday, Oct. 21 at China One restaurant about the native flower beds on the walking trail at Wright Memorial hospital.
He showed pictures of the 22 wildflower perennial varieties that were planted in 2014, all of which survived but one variety. Some of the native plants were rural milkweed, Missouri primrose, Butterfly milkweed, Prairie Blazing Star, Prairie dropseed grass, button blush, showy goldenrod, shooting star, oxide sunflower, downy phlox, asters, black-eyed susan or Missouri coneflower, purple coneflower and a number of others.
10-21-24
The seeds were donated by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Schuett reminded members a magazine called Native Plants for Your Landscape is available from the Department of Conservation.
Ten to 12 more beds of native plants have been added since 2014. It now takes him and assistance from Johna Peyton and her children two days to clean the beds in the spring.
Schuett quizzed members about the state grass, which is big blue stem. He said there are three times a year to view the most blooms as plants are varied in blooming seasons; May to see the early bloomers, June-July for midseason blooms and September for late season blooms.
Schuett also helps take care of flower beds at the First Christian Church, uptown and the Senior Center. He plans to wear out, not rust out, he laughingly states.
The treasurer’s report and minutes from the last meeting were given and approved.
The September-October yard of the month was
awarded to Herb and Linda Gates at 2700 Sportsman Rd. A business award was not presented.
Dorothy Taul, president, read from a magazine given to her by Luann Oneal. Members are to bring a canned good to be given to a family in need in November.
Marilyn Bain read a thank you note from Karen and Bill Fries. Ms. Taul suggested the club give a yard of the year award to one yard in the county and one in the city. She will design and print the award.
Members who attended were Marilyn Booth, Laura Ewing, Bonnie Dittberner, Linda Carman, Karalyn Thompson, Marilyn Bain, Linda Lamp, Ms. Taul, Diana Hoppe and Nancy Donohue. Carolyn Rasmussen was a guest.

Trenton ends the season with a loss to South Harrison last night. Trenton 0-3 ( 14-25, 12-25, 15-25)
We really struggled to get anything going last night. Definitely not how we wanted the season to end. Jacole will be missed next year. She’s put up a lot of good stats for us all season, and took on the role her team really needed her to take, as a setter instead of Libero. That all being said, we have a lot of young players coming back. Hopefully, we work individually in the off season and come out strong next season.

Main Street Chillicothe invites the community to gather for a cherished tradition at our annual Memory Tree Dedication and Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at Silver Moon Plaza. This special event offers an opportunity for residents to honor and remember loved ones during the holiday season. The Memory Tree Dedication allows individuals to dedicate an ornament in memory of family members, friends, or anyone dear to their hearts. Ornaments will be placed on the tree prior to the event.
The ceremony will include music, a formal dedication of the tree, the reading of names, and the lighting of the Memory Tree. These ornaments will remain on the tree throughout the holiday season, serving as a beautiful reminder of those we have lost. After the holiday season, ornaments will be available for pickup at the Main Street office once the tree is taken down.
If you would like your loved one to be memorialized on this year’s tree, please contact Main Street Chillicothe at 660-646-4071 or via email at
office@downtownchilli.com for more information. Ornaments are available for $10 each or 3 for $25, and can be purchased online at www.downtownchilli.com/pr oducts/memory-tree-ornament.
We encourage everyone in the community to join us for this meaningful event. Whether dedicating an ornament or simply attending to share in the moment, the Memory Tree Dedication and Lighting Ceremony brings a warm sense of connection and reflection during the holiday season.
