Plattsburg Council approves street bid
spearheaded efforts to obtain a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant through the Missouri Department of Transportation to improve sidewalks. Those efforts were successful, as Plattsburg was approved for a $498,000 matching-funds grant.
The city’s portion of that total is just 20 percent, with nearly $400,000 coming from MoDOT. Sam Finley was inspired to start the PCA after falling in love with the town, hoping to add to its beautification and bring some added pride to Plattsburg.
“There are a lot of deteriorated sidewalks around town and I like the idea of having all of them being walkable,” Finley said. “There are kids coming to school that are walking in the streets, or elderly or anyone who goes for their walks ||Continued on A2

In a meeting that lasted just minutes on Monday, the Plattsburg City Council was able to capitalize on the availability of a paving contractor for the city’s upcoming street improvement project. The council voted in special session on Monday, November 6, to approve a bid from Approved Paving from Atchison, Kansas, to perform street improvement work. Because Approved Paving has the equipment and manpower immediately available (not to mention a favorable forecast), city officials expect the work could be completed by sometime early next week. The Clinton County Planning and Zoning Commission met on Thursday, November 2, to decide on a permit application and hear proposed changes to the county’s zoning ordinances. Eric K.
