With the end of 2023 drawing closer, local governments will be gearing up for a big election year in 2024, including key races for cities, schools and the county. Filing is now open for the April 2024 election and will run through December 26. This will include open seats on area city councils and school boards. This will be a major election for the Plattsburg City Council, as four seats will be up for grabs—those of Mayor James Kennedy, Ward I Alderman John Mirosh, Ward II Alderman Richard Stanley and Ward III Alderman Scott Gordee. Each seat carries a two-year term. The Clinton County R-III Board of Education in Plattsburg will have just two seats open for three-year terms. Those seats are currently held by Keith Carnie and Nick Wade. The Lathrop City Council will have just two seats up for election, each carrying a two-year term. Those seats are currently held by North Ward

Plattsburg rang in the Christmas season this past weekend with its annual Community Christmas celebration downtown, which included a lighted parade, visits from Santa, train rides, sweet treats and so much more. (Above) The Hartzells’ Plattsburg Express rolls down Main Street on Friday, giving children rides before the parade. (Left) Mrs. Claus helped kids with crafts at the Festival of Trees at Tinnen Town Hall. The beautiful trees will remain viewable at the hall for most of the month.

Christmas in Gower, Lathrop The Gower Area Chamber of Commerce has released the schedule for its expanded Christmas in the Park event, which will be Friday, December 8, and Saturday, December 9, at the downtown park.

The events kick off on Friday with a visit from Elsa and Anna from the hit movie Frozen. The visit will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gower City Park. There will be a pet costume contest and ugly ||Continued on A2
