Thanks to a major state grant, the Lathrop R-II School District is preparing for a major overhaul of its surveillance system. Last spring, the school district was awarded a $150,000 grant through Missouri’s School Safety Grant Program. On Wednesday, October 11, the Lathrop R-II Board of Education approved a proposal from American Digital Security (ADS) that will cost $151,398. The costs above the grant total will come from the district’s operating funds. “This grant enables us to update our surveillance system across the district, as well as add cameras to both the athletic complex and central office,” said Lathrop R-II Superintendent Dr. Adam Willard. “Our current system, and servers to run the system, are 12 years

During the Gower City Council meeting held on Monday, October 9, the council discussed and started the process to annex state highway rightof-way on the south end of Fourth Street (State Route DD), past Heritage Park to County Line Road. The council began the process because the East Buchanan School District is moving toward construction of a new middle school on the district-owned farmland on the west side of Fourth Street. The annexation will provide Gower Police the ability to patrol and have jurisdiction along Fourth Street to County Line Road, which is considered necessary due to the traffic that will be generated by the new school. The remainder of the council meeting was devoted to project updates on SSA4, MO-

Cassie Graham opened the service before joining the choir to present special music. Under the direction of Broadway UMC choir director Jacob Enderle-Miller, they performed “Sing Community, Sing Peace.” Two more selections were
sung by the congregation, “Come, Now is the Time to Worship,” and “I Stand Amazed in the Presence.” Rev. Graham delivered the scripture, reading John 1:1-5, 14 before Rev. Scott Killgore, interim minister at the First Christian Church, delivered the message, “He Humbled Himself.” He used his favorite Bible passage from Philippians 2 to pro||Continued on A2
