Grundy County SWCD Board of Supervisors Let it be known that the Grundy County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold an election for one supervisor in each of two different territories in the county on February 1-20 2024. Anyone that owns a farm in Territory 1 or Territory 3, and meets the qualifications listed below, may be considered as a candidate in the election. Supervisors of the district administer district policies and programs, district personnel, and cost-share funding made available by the one-tenth-of-one-percent parks, soils and water sales tax. During fiscal year 2023, the district provided $630,864.48 of cost-share funds to 30 landowners to assist the landowners with installing agricultural erosion control and water quality practices.

The qualifications required to be a supervisor are: 1. Being a land representative from the district (10 CSR 70-4.010 (1) (I)). A land representative is defined as the owner or representative authorized by power of attorney of any farm lying within an area proposed to be established, and subsequently established, as a soil and water conservation district under Chapter 278, RSMo. Each farm is entitled to representation by a land representative: provided, however that the land representative is a taxpayer of the county within which the soil and water district is located.

2. Residing in, or owning a farm in, the area from which he/she is nominated where there is an expiring term.

3. Being a cooperator of the district, defined as, "a person who is actively engaged in farming and practices conservation activities related to agriculture".

4. Being a current resident and tax-paying citizen of the county for at least two years preceding the election date.

5. Be eighteen (18) years of age or older by the election date.

VETERANS AND VETERAN FAMILY MEMBERS, SAVE THE DAY!!!

Clinton County University of Missouri Extension Council will host its first annual “Veterans Appreciation Day,” at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 18th at the Gower American Legion, 91 N 3rd St, Gower, MO 64454. There will be several speakers regarding free programs for veterans through MU, benefits available to veterans and their families, and other veteran-oriented subjects.

Clinton County MU Extension wants to honor area veterans and their families.

If you are a veteran and/or a family member of a veteran, we encourage you to attend.

MU, the American Legion, and several area veterans strongly feel that “No Man Left Behind” doesn’t end on the battlefield. It doesn’t end because the tour of duty is over. Just because the contract ends, doesn’t mean the commitment ends.

Many of the volunteers in this area are veterans, and family members of veterans.

Most veterans are service-oriented individuals. Whether drafted or volunteered, each veteran signed a blank check, up to and including their life. We have men and women veterans in Clinton County from WWII to the present. We have Gold Star family members and several permanently disabled veterans in Clinton County. All gave some. Some gave all.

Several members of the Clinton County MU Extension Council are Veterans, including the chairman Jonathon Clark, of Lathrop, MO. We encourage you to attend this celebration of Clinton County veterans, to learn of the opportunities that are available, to help us to learn the needs of the veterans in our communities, and to celebrate the men and women who have served this nation, providing the freedoms and protecting the rights of the citizens of the United States of America.

There will also be representatives of some of the area American Legion Posts and the VFW. The Program begins at 9:00am. Refreshments and lunch will be served.
