The first option is a training session via Zoom. Anyone can join these meetings from their home computer. Go to www.extension.missouri.edu/events and search for private pesticide applicator training to find the date and time of the next virtual training event.
Also, in-person programs are scheduled for 2023. There will be a faceto-face program held in Grundy County on January 31 at the NCMC Barton Farm Campus located at 96 South East 8th Avenue in Trenton. The program will

The fourth item of discussion was reclassifying a 2011 Impala that was a former police vehicle as surplus equipment to be sold.

The water main project at the corner of 10th and Oklahoma was discussed but no motions were made.
The final discussion item regarded the North Central Missouri Rural Water Commission. It was determined that the line that was used to transport water to Sullivan County during times of severe drought should not be charged a monthly base rate when not in use. That fee of $250 per month was waived since the meter is locked when not in use.
The meeting was adjourned after that discussion and there was no executive session.
City Council meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7 pm at City Hall. The public is encouraged to attend and public comment is allowed during a portion of the agenda.

The end of 2022 is upon us and so today I want to discuss income tax issues. I furthermore want to tell you I am retiring at the end of 2022 after serving 43 years in this job. I appreciate all the folks I have been in contact with over the years and hope to run into some of you again in the future.
1099NEC or 1099MISC are two of three income tax forms at least farmers should be aware of now. There is an additional form 1096 that has to be sent to the IRS no matter how many of these two forms you complete. All are due to the payee and copy to the IRS by January 31, 2023. The 1099NEC is for someone who is not your employee you have paid over $600 in a year. The employee threshold to withhold is $150 so do not confuse them. These would include custom planting, combining, haying, dozer work and others. The 1099MISC is now used for cash rent paid, health care costs and veterinary work. These are all related to your work or business. Feed such as hay bought, supplies and other normal expenses are not included with this. Attorneys are unique in that if you pay them in your course of busi-
ness (estate or succession plan) then they receive a 1099 even if they are incorporated. Vet work is for the vet service themselves and not medicine if the bill is separated.
Farmer’s Tax Guides are another excellent reference for 1099 instructions and an overall income tax reference. They are available at your county extension office at no cost so stop by and pick one up. It also discusses weather related sales which is a big deal in 2022 with drought, etc. Many counties in Missouri are eligible. You can also download the Farmer’s Tax Guides online at HYPERLINK "http://www.irs.gov" www.irs.gov. If your Internet is slow, it will take a while.
Do not forget Missouri Extension educators can answer some tax questions or contact your preparer. You should be doing income tax estimates this time of year too. A program on farm leases, (a 10-week online seminar is coming Tuesday evenings from 7 to 7:30 pm for $100 beginning January 10 and going till March 14). If you have a general question related to Ag Business (budgets, finances, labor, etc.) please feel free to contact the Livingston County Extension Office at 646-0811 and they can direct you to a specialist.

Shelman has been a member of Rotary since 1989 and is a member of the Lee's Summit Rotary Club. He recognized local members who have been involved in various Rotary activities over the years, including past district governors, Paul Harris Fellows, Rotary International donors, etc. He also recognized the club as a 100 percent Paul Harris Fellow club, one of only 13 clubs in the 52-club district that have such a designation. Shelman reviewed activities for the 2022-23 year, including the District
Conference, which will be held in April at the Harry S. Truman Library in Independence. He also talked about various Rotary programs and how clubs and individuals can be involved.
During the business meeting, Drew Smith was
inducted as a new member. The program for the Jan. 12 meeting will be presented by David Critten, who will tell about his business, Landmark Manufacturing. The meeting will be held at noon at the BTC Bank community room.
The Grundy County Jewett Norris Library has been a hub of learning and the heart of Grundy County since 1891. It is steeped in history while still offering a wide array of modern services. The Jewett Norris Library enriches lives by empowering the community through access to information and inspiration. Some of the services offered include a large selection of genealogy materials, library cards for ages six and up that are free to Grundy County residents, fax, copy, and lamination services, computer printing, microfilm readers, internet access, inter-library resources, databases, cricket cuts, magazines, Wi-Fi, movies, die cut machines, the Hoover Theatre, book sales, and of course books, audiobooks, and eBooks. Through the Evergreen consortium, Jewett Norris can borrow resources from over 150 state libraries for patrons. These resources include books, eBooks, and audiobooks. Theresa Hunsaker, Director of the Jewett Norris Library, said, “I enjoy being able to successfully help our patrons with their library needs.”
In addition to their resources, the library has daily newspapers from Trenton, St. Joseph, and USA Today. They also have Heritage Quest and various area newspapers from 1852 that can be accessed from the website. In addition to digital resources, the library has a paper genealogy collection. Another resource the Jewett Norris Library has is a board room that can be reserved during library hours for meetings or study groups. Also, the library recently obtained a 3D printer for use. Theresa said, “We continually purchase new materials for our patrons.” The Jewett Norris Library also has a very acute Summer Reading Program for children and adults of all ages.
Theresa went on to say, “We are always changing to stay relevant to the needs of our county by staying up to date with electronic changes, making sure our computers are up to date along with our copy and print services and providing eBooks.” The library has a wide variety of eBooks and e-audio-
books by being a part of three different consortiums on the website where patrons can download books, audiobooks, and movies. Theresa said, “I want the library always to be relevant, resourceful, and a place where Grundy County residences can always find the knowledge they seek.”

GRM Networks recently made donations of $500 each to Gilman City R-IV, Grundy County R-V and Newtown-Harris R-III Schools Districts. GRM Networks continually strives to positively influence the areas in which it operates. This is achieved through the corporation’s commitment to bring fiber internet to its customers and members, as well as through the tangible donations and support given to schools and community organizations.
“Schools play a vital role in their communities,” said Mitchell Bailey, CEO of GRM Networks. “We recognize the value of educational institutions, which is why we are donating $500 to each of the 26 elementary and high schools located in our coverage area.”
“It’s not only the school that benefits from donations, it is the community as well,” said Bailey. “When we donate to our schools, it is an investment in our future and a donation that goes back into our communities.”
GRM Networks is a member owned cooperative that provides communication services to customers located within a 4,500 square mile area that covers 44 exchanges in Northern Missouri and Southern Iowa. GRM Networks is dedicated to delivering reliable, advanced communications technology while providing an exceptional customer experience. GRM Networks is committed to promoting and investing in its local communities.

GRM Networks recently designated the cities of Galt and Newtown as Smart Rural Communities. This designation means that every home and business in the Galt and Newtown exchanges have access to fiber broadband internet with speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second.
GRM Networks is nationally recognized as a Smart Rural Community provider by industry association, NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association. GRM Networks received this recognition for the cooperative’s ongoing efforts to deliver the best in telecommunications services throughout their rural service areas.
The Smart Rural Community program promotes rural broadband networks and broadband-enabled applications that are critical to rural communities, encouraging innovative economic development and enabling remote education, telehealth, precision agriculture, telecommuting and other services.
“As a telecommunications cooperative, it is our responsibility and duty to provide vital communications technology for our members,” said Mitchell Bailey, CEO of GRM Networks. “The foresight and dedication of our management team and board of directors propelled us to connect our rural communities to the opportunities, advanced services and technology that fiber provides.”
