NCMC Athletics Announces Hall of Fame Induction Class

North Central Missouri College athletics inducted four new members to the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 14th. Inductees were honored in a ceremony between the women’s and men’s basketball games against Southeast Community College. A reception was set to be held so celebrate the inductees at Riverside Country Club following the games.
Chris Green: NCMC Baseball Player 2008-2009
Green pitched his sophomore year for the Pirates after transferring from Missouri Southern State University. In the spring of 2009, Green appeared in 19 games for the Pirates while leading the team in wins (4), innings pitched (79.0) and strikeouts (84). He then transferred to Northwest Missouri State University where he was a key piece of their pitching staff. As a Bearcat, he compiled a record of 11-8 with 74 strikeouts in two seasons. He held a 5.01 ERA over 129.1 innings pitched. Matt Johnson, Green’s summer ball coach while at the St. Joseph Mustangs of the MINK League, commented that he was one of the hardest working players he ever coached.
Collegiate and summer success led to a free agent signing with the Baltimore Orioles organization for Green. He pitched the end of the 2012 season in the Gulf Coast League with a record of 1-0 in 3 appearances. He posted a stellar 10 strikeouts over 5 innings pitched that season for the GCL Orioles. The following year, Green had a pair of appearances for the Sioux Falls Canaries of the independent American Association before retiring due to injury.
Head Coach Donnie Hillerman detailed what made Green such a good competitor and teammate while at NCMC. “I have always been impressed by Chris’s athletic ability; he was a very physical player and he had considerable skill. With that said, the thing that most impressed me was his tenacity as a competitor and his mental toughness to overcome difficult situations. He never gave in to adversity or pain. Chris had an injury as a freshman in high school and the issues followed him throughout his career. He had elbow surgery in high school and again while at NWMSU. While pitching at NCMC, his arm health was always a factor. There were days that he was on and he pitched in dominating fashion while there were other days he would grind through and compete with less than his best stuff. He always gave us innings and a chance to win against our toughest opponents.”
Samone Redditt: NCMC Women’s Basketball Player 2012-2014 Redditt was a two-year starter for the Lady Pirates. During her freshman year she averaged 11.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She was named 2nd Team NJCAA DII All-American in the 2013-14 season for her efforts that put the Lady Pirates into the national tournament for the third time in program history. That season, she averaged 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. She was also a 1st Team All-Region XVI selection. Additionally, her NCMC jersey hung in the ring of honor at the Women’s

The athletic director Scott Ursery updated the board on the newest members of the GRC East. Brookfield and Marceline will join the GRC for the 2024-25 school year.
The School Board was presented a proposal from community member Danny Derry. Mr. Derry offered $30,000 for the opportunity to name the baseball field at the new complex after his grandfather Dewey Derry.
The board of education was grateful for the presentation from Mr. Derry and had significant discussion on the topic. Mr. Girdner shared that there is a lot to consider in naming rights. Some of the challenges are the two existing fields of Gerald Gentry and Dick Franklin field and if those field names would be moved to the new stadium. There have been recent suggestions about past coaches such as Geogre Scurlock and Dave Niemeyer being honored with field names. Additionally there have been recent donations made that naming rights were not offered or considered. The concern would be if all previous donations should have an opportunity for naming rights and what that donation level should be. Discussion around the Hall of Fame at the concession

NCMC

Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, TN during the 2014-2015 school year to honor her efforts. In her career at NCMC, she pulled down 388 rebounds, which is 10th best all-time for the Lady Pirates.
Head Coach Jenni Croy had these comments of Redditt. “Samone was a two-year starter for us. She could play anywhere on the court, from point guard to post, which made her extremely hard to guard. She really worked hard to develop her game on both ends of the floor and was a vital component when we earned a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament.”
Richard Woods: NCMC Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach 2004-2014
Woods earned his bachelor’s degree in 1964 from Northwest Missouri State University and his master’s degree from the University of Central Missouri. He was a lifelong coach, educator and family man who helped shape many lives. In the high school ranks, he guided athletes in the sports of football, baseball and basketball plus the life lessons that come from playing athletics. Those stops included Sherwood HS, Lebanon HS, Brookfield HS and Trenton HS.Woods was an assistant men’s basketball coach at NCMC for ten seasons under Steve Rich-

man beginning in 2004. His positive influence on the program and the campus as a whole made everyone proud to be a Pirate. Richman had these kind words to say of his colleague and friend. “Coach Woods was not just an assistant coach; he was a mentor and father figure to me. He loved basketball but he cared about our players even more. Upon his passing, I did not just lose a colleague, I lost a true friend. I think of him often.”
Louis Wilson: TJC Men's Basketball Player 1984-1986
Louis was a two-year starter of two TJC teams that won 20-plus games (21-10 and 20-12), serving as a co-captain as a sophomore. He continued his playing career at William Jewell where he was named to the WJC Hall of Fame as a member of the 1987-88 basketball team that made it to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Tournament. After graduation, he began a coaching career that included four years as an assistant high school basketball coach and 27 years in the collegiate ranks. While at TJC, he and former high school teammate Anthony Herrington began a lifelong friendship with fellow player Geno Morgan of Chicago. He too went on to coach at the high school level, winning three state championships before pass-
ing away suddenly in 2015. Louis and Anthony formed the Geno Morgan Foundation in his honor, which raises money to fund college scholarships for students to continue their education as well as to sponsor basketball camps.
NCMC Head Coach Jeremy Esry had these remarks about his relationship with Coach Wilson. “Louis Wilson is the definition of the type of role model that we look for when sharing success stories of former Pirates from the men’s basketball program with our current guys. Coach Wilson has always done things the right way and paved his own path. He is living proof that NCMC, or TJC as he would call it, can take you anywhere! He imprinted his stamp on Trenton and this campus, which will last a lifetime and helped open doors for our guys past, present and future to become better students and human beings. Coach Wilson continues to provide opportunities to young men to this day. When I go out and talk about North Central Missouri College basketball and the history of our program, Louis Wilson is always one of the first names out of my mouth. On behalf of our program at North Central, we would like to congratulate Coach Wilson on his induction into our Hall of Fame.”

PESTICIDE SAFETY AWARENESS
By: Valerie Tate, MU Extension Agronomy Specialist
Pesticides are chemicals designed to kill or repel living things that are considered by humans to be pests. Pesticides include insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides and fungicides. If not handled properly, pesticides may cause harm to other organisms including pets, livestock, wildlife, and people.
Exposure to pesticides can occur through ingestion, inhalation, or skin absorption. Physical responses to pesticide exposure depend on the pesticide, amount of exposure, the age, and the over-all physical condition of
the victim. The following safe handling recommendations reduce the likelihood of accidental exposure.
• Identify the specific pest to determine the proper treatment.

• Read the entire label before purchasing, handling, or applying a pesticide. The pesticide label is the law.

• Purchase only the amount needed to control the specific pest.
• Make sure the pesticide is designated for use on the specific pest to be control.
• Follow label directions carefully for preparation and application of pesticides.
• Wear the protective clothing listed on the product label which may include clothing that covers the skin, chemical resistant gloves, rubber footwear, chemical resistant hat, and chemical splash goggles. An air-purifying respirator may also be required if an inhalation hazard exists.
• Do not wear cloth hats, leather or cloth gloves or leather boots. These absorb

pesticides and expose skin to pesticides the next time they are worn.
• Mix only the amount of pesticide needed. Mix or dilute pesticides outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
• Do not spray pesticides on a windy day.
• Do not use pesticides near children or pets.

• Any clothing contaminated with pesticides should be washed separately from other laundry. First, rinse clothing outdoors with a hose or in a washing machine presoak. Use hot water (140 degrees Fahrenheit) to launder, a full water level setting, and the normal wash cycle. Contaminated clothing may need to be washed two or three times.

Line-dry the clothing to avoid contaminating the dryer. Heavily contaminated clothing should be discarded. Disposable protective clothing is available through safety equipment suppliers. For more information refer to these MU Guides: Safe Use, Storage and Disposal of Pesticides: https://extension.missouri.ed u/publications/wm6000, Pesticide Application Safety: https://extension.missouri.ed u/publications/g1916 and Laundering Pesticide Contaminated Clothing https://extension.missouri.ed u/publications/g1914
To the Great Constituents
of District 2, My first official week in office has flown by! I am humbled to be able to represent our Voices down in Jefferson City, I will keep you updated on what is going on. This week, we passed the Rules. During the debate on the floor, I offered an amendment which would require more than just the Speaker to remove a representative from certain committees. My amendment would require the floor leaders consent as well, which would keep power from being in the hands of one individual. I was proud to stand up for my constituents’ voices.
I was assigned my committees this week: Agriculture Policy, Budget, Special Committee on Government Accountability, and Subcommittee on Appropriations - General Administration. I have filed 6 bills which includes, HB 499 (banning

foreign land ownership), HB 224 (designating the State Rifle as the Hawken), HB 712 (Anti-Red Flag Gun Seizure Act), HB 498 (would include businesses that host drag performances in the definition of a sexually oriented business), HB 463 (banning biological sex transition procedures and puberty blockers amongst minors). I have also filed Concurrent Resolution 5 to reinstate mandatory country of origin labeling. A particularly important bill to me is HB 456 which would prevent social security from being taxed, I co-sponsored this bill to show my support.
I enjoy hearing from constituents and want to ensure that your voices are heard. Please feel free to email me at Mazzie.Boyd@mail. house.gov or call my office at (573) 751-4285.

David Critten presented the program at the Thursday, Jan. 12 meeting of the Trenton Rotary Club, held at the BTC Bank community room. Michael Ormsby presided at the meeting, Joe MacDonald gave the prayer and Brian Upton was the sergeant at arms.
Critten told about his business, Landmark Manufacturing, established by Critten's grandfather in 1953 as Longwood Furnace. The company manufactured furnace-related items on a local and regional basis until 1974, when it began nationwide distribution. The company entered the metal fabrication subcontractor business in 1978, changing its name to Landmark in 1986. The business is located in a 650,000 square foot building, located on a 40-acre site east of Gallatin. Its top customers include Kubota, Modine and Meritor with lawn and garden/recreation manufacturing making up
around 51 percent of the company's business. Landmark also produces the Good-One Smoker, a business the company purchased after originally being the smoker's builder.
The high-end smoker is sold internationally. Critten also showed a film of some of the equipment used by his business, adding that employee training is done in-house. There are currently 116 employees, including in-house auditors and engineers.
During the business meeting, discussion was held regarding the club's 100th anniversary celebration set for Thursday, March 9. A program and meal will be held at the Cross Hall Coffee Shop.
The program for the Jan. 19 meeting will include discussion of the celebration as well as a short presentation by Gary Schuett regarding volunteer needs for the Grundy County Council on Aging.

Lawson 43 vs Gallatin 39
Cameron 32 vs Trenton 30
Chillicothe 67 vs Penney 10 W. Platte 45 vs Richmond 20

The first point made by Ashley Feiden with a long two pointer. Trenton had a tough battle in the first quarter, which ended 14-12. But Gallatin took the night by winning all four quarters. Final score, 55-39.
Gallatin would then go on to play Richmond where they lost after a long fight of 50-52.
Trenton beat Penney in the game for seventh place with a

score of 42-31.
Final results of the girls tournament are as follows:

The Gallatin Bulldogs suffered a fate about the same. After winning their first game over Lawson, 70-39, where senior player Payton Feiden scored his 1,000th point, the Bulldogs had a rough next couple of games. Their first loss of the season was against the Chillicothe Hornets with a loss of 6139, a unusual low scoring game for the Bulldogs. They then went on to play West Platte in the third place game. Final games included the girls playing in the third place game, where they lost, after a great effort, by two.
Their final score against Notheast Nodaway was 47-45.
The boys went on to play in the championship game against the Maysville Wolverines. This would be the first meeting between the two teams, who will play again later on in the season. The Tigers ended up loosing the the Wolverines to take second. Their score 57-70.
The Trenton Bulldogs had a good day at the Chillicothe tournament. The girls team had only one attend, and the boys team had nine wrestlers in attendance.
