Five Points Alive TMS Students of the Quarter Downtown Christmas

Five Points Alive will present a Christmas parade and festivities on Friday, Dec. 1 in Downtown Trenton. The highlight of the evening will be the lighted parade. All are encouraged to decorate your UTV, vintage vehicle, golf cart or horses. ALL entries MUST have lights. Parade entries will line up at 5 p.m. at Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri at 1801 E. 28th St. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and travel up 28th Street to Sunnyview Nursing Home, where it will go through the parking lot. It will then travel through Princeton Manor Apartments, then head down Princeton Road, traveling on to 17th Street and down Main Street. There will be no candy thrown during the parade. There is no entry fee for the parade. Anyone wishing to enter or needing more information may contact Cindy Jen-

nings at 660-359-1923. From 4:30 to 7 p.m., a soup supper, sponsored by MOPS, will be held at the Grand River Baptist Association. At 5 p.m., Santa will be in the gazebo at Sesquicentennial Park handing out treat bags to all the children. He will also be available for photos. The THS Band, Drumline and Colorguard will perform at the Ketcham Community Center between 6 and 6:15 p.m. At 6:45 p.m. the group “Winsome: will perform at the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library, followed by Christmas Carols. The Hodge Cookie Walk will also be taking place at 1015 Main Street. New to the event this year will be a Holiday Gingerbread Contest sponsored by Art’s Alive and held at The Space in Downtown Trenton. The contest in[See Christmas, Page 2]

Trenton Middle School has announced its Students of the Quarter for the first quarter of the 2023-24 school year. Students are selected based on the following criteria: academic performance, character, behavior, effort, social relationship and attendance. Students may only receive this honor once in their middle school career. Those receiving Student of the Quarter honors at TMS include, from left, fifth graders Jalia Webb, daughter of Jacob Webb and Chelsea and Seth Lake and Laithon Blacketer, son of Michael & Sara Blacketer; sixth graders Paige Chambers, daughter of Jeremy and Robin Chambers and Cason Trump, son of Clint and Whitney Trump; seventh graders Amaya White, daughter of Kelly and Willie White and Marcus White, son of Brian and Tracey White; and eighth graders Annie Currie, daughter of Joshua and Amy Currie and Malachi Kottwitz, son of Nathan & Jamie Kottwitz.

BRIEFS Ketcham Closed for Holiday

All North Central Missouri College campuses/sites will be closed Wednesday, November 22-Friday, November 24, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. No onground classes will be held, and all offices will be closed. North Central Missouri College will reopen on Monday, November 27, for regular business hours. The Ketcham Community Center hours on Wednesday, November 22, will be 5:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and will be closed on Thursday, November 24. Electric Rates, Trash Top City Council Discussions

The Trenton City Council met in open session Monday November 13, 2023 at 7 pm, at City Hall. In attendance were Mayor Jackie Soptic; Council Members William Fisher, Glenn Briggs, Calvin Brown, Marvin Humphreys, Timothy Meinecke, David Mlika, John Dolan; City Attorney Tara Walker; City Administrator/Utilities Director Ron Urton; Police Chief Rex Ross and City Clerk Cindy Simpson. Absent was Councilmember Duane Urich. The meeting started with the minutes from the October 23 meeting being approved. The council approved to pay all duly obligated bills, but also acknowledged what would happen if they chose not to approve the bills. Moving on to reports, Briggs talked about the disaster exercise recently held. The Administrative Board talked about the demolition program and that there were no changes, and they would keep carrying on with what they are doing. The Police Advisory board talked briefly about a Public Safety Committee. The council commented on the fact that they were getting updates from both the fire department and police department and would like for that to continue. There was [See Council, Page 4]

R-9 Board Discusses Bond Issue, Sets Filing Dates

City of Trenton crews were busy Tuesday morning putting up the lighted snowflakes and Christmas banners that will line Main Street and Ninth Street this holiday season.

The Trenton R-9 Board of Education met on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 5:30 pm in the Trenton District office. The preliminary matters were discussed, including the approval of the minutes from the last meeting and approval of the consent agenda. The Administrators from each building introduced their Teachers of the Quarter as guests. Honored were Title One teacher Mary Ellen Johnson at

Rissler, art teacher Sheridan Mounce at the middle school and PE teacher Bradley Ewald at the high school. The meeting then moved into new business. First item on the agenda was the bond issue information. Brent Blevins from Stifel was in attendance via Zoom to discuss information on the potential bond issue that Trenton RIX can run in April 2024. There was discussion re-

garding the debit service, interest rates, and looking towards future projects for new and existing facilities. There was a motion made to draft ballot language regarding the bond issue for the next meeting in December. Next was the discussion [See R-9, Page 2]
