NCMC Earns Community College, Early Childhood Program Recognition North Central Missouri College has earned recognition as a top ten community colleges in Missouri by Intelligent.com. Intelligent.com has also included NCMC on the list of Best Online Associate in Early Childhood Development degree programs for 2024. The research identifies top schools in the state based on tuition costs, the number of credits required to graduate and the online coursework delivery format. On the list, NCMC earns the number nine spot in Best Community Colleges in Missouri and the number six spot for Best Online Associate in Early Childhood degree program. “Childcare continues to be an important focus for

children, families, and economic development,” said Noel Staddie, NCMC Early Childhood Program Instructor. “At NCMC, we tailor our online courses to meet the needs of students who are already filling the gaps in care and education for working families. Trenton Students Awarded American FFA Degree

BRIEFS Gifted Group Fundraiser

The Gifted Group will present “Taste of Italy” on Saturday, November 18 at 6 p.m. at the First Assembly of God FAC Building. The evening will be a black tie event including an Italian dinner of lasagna, fettuccine alfredo, salad, desserts and drinks, along with a small auction and entertainment. Cost will be $25 per plate or $125 for a table of six. Reservations may be made by calling 660-359-1649 or 660-654-0218.

NCMC Annual Roll Call Event

In honor of Veterans Day, North Central Missouri College will participate in its annual NCMC Roll Call Event. The NCMC Roll Call will be held at noon on Friday, November 10, in front of Geyer Hall on the NCMC main campus in Trenton, MO. Members of the public are invited to attend. The program will include NCMC student leaders, faculty, staff, and Board of Trustee members. Area Veterans and Fallen Heroes will be honored in a roll call of names read during the ceremony. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Cross Hall Lobby. Sex Offender Not Compliant

Chief Rex Ross of the Trenton Police Department reported that of the twenty residences checked by the department on Halloween night, one violation was identified in regard to the Halloween restrictions for sexual offenders outlined by City Ordinance 215.1550 and State Statute 589.426. An incident report for the violation was to be prepared and forwarded to the Prosecutor. These compliance checks are conducted on an annual basis in an effort to ensure these sexual offenders are following the law on Halloween.

NCM Fair Board Annual Meeting

The North Central Missouri Fair Board will host its annual meeting on Thursday, November 16 at 6:00 pm in the THS Ag Building. Anyone interested in joining the North Central Missouri Fair Board is encouraged to attend. GCRFPD Responds to Fire

The Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District was called out on Thursday afternoon, November 2 at 4:35 p.m. to a combine on fire at NW 38th Street, near Brimson. According to a report made by FF James Knight, upon arrival firefighters found the combine, owned by Andy Kidd, to be fully involved. Firefighters were able to use foam to extinguish the fire. The combine was a total loss. The cause of the fire was undetermined. Firefighters remained on scene for 45 minutes and were assisted by the Trenton Fire Department and Grundy County Ambulance.

TFD Called to Structure Fire

At 3 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, the Trenton Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 140 E. 8th Street in Trenton, owned by Misty Miller-Smith. According to a report by Lt. Derek Hert, upon arrival firefighters found a detached shed near the house had heavy smoke and fire, with the fire extending to the engine compartment of a vehicle parked near the shed. Firefighters used foam to extinguish the fire in the shed and vehicle, then used a thermal imaging camera to check for any fire extension to the house, with none found. The shed and vehicle were a total loss. There was moderate damage to the siding on the southwest side of the house, as well as a neighbor’s wooden fence that separates the properties. The crew remained on scene for approximately 2 1/2 hours. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Trenton Police Department and the MO Division of Fire Safety Fire Investigators. Other departments assisting at the scene were Grundy County Rural Fire and Grundy County Ambulance.

Arrest for Arson Made

On November 4 at 11:38 a.m., a 35-year-old Trenton resident was taken into custody in conjunction with a reported arson fire on East 8th Street in Trenton. The Trenton Police Department were assisted by the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department. Also providing assistance were the Trenton Fire Department and the Grundy County Ambulance service. The initial report was taken by the Police Department, but the investigation is being conducted by the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office. The reports will be forwarded to the Grundy County Prosecutor for review for criminal charges.

Kiwanis Club to Sponsor Christmas Wish Project The Trenton Kiwanis Club, in conjunction with KTTN, has opened the application process for the Christmas Wish Project. Elementary and preschool students in Trenton will have application forms sent home with them this week, or families who would like to enroll for the project can pick up applications at KTTN during normal business hours. Individuals may also contact Kiwanis Club program coordinator, Kara Helmandollar, at 660-359-5966 to have a form mailed to them. To be eligible for the program, a family must live in Grundy County, have custody of the children for whom they are seeking assistance and meet income guidelines based on the 2023 Federal Poverty guidelines. Forms will need to be completed and returned by November 28th to either KTTN or the Kiwanis mailing address on the form. The program is designed to assist low income families with children ages 12 and under with Christmas gifts for their children. Each child is able to request a specific gift, valued at $30 or less. Club members attempt to keep Christmas magical for children by granting those wishes. Funding for the Christmas Wish Project comes from the generosity of area businesses and residents. There are several ways that those interested can donate. Starting after Thanksgiving, KTTN will air the "wishes" of area children on the radio.
