Job market forecast
The job market will face a major obstacle over the next decade: An aging U.S. population The graying of America will limit how many workers are available to employers. It will also open up hundreds of thousands of jobs involving care for the elderly. So says the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its assessment of economic and hiring trends from 2022 to 2032. The agency foresees annual employment growth slowing to 0 3% down from a 1.2% annual rate from 2012 through 2022 The proportion of Americans who either have a job or are looking for one is forecast to
slide to 60.4% in 2032 from 62 2% in 2022. The main reason: A larger share of the population will have retired. Healthcare and social services providers, needed to care for older Americans and those with heart disease, diabetes and other chronic conditions, are expected to account for 45% of job gains Among the occupations that are expected to rise rapidly over the next decade are home health aides, registered nurses and health services managers. The economy is also expected to add roughly 410,000 software developers

NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BECOME COMPLACENT WITH CALF MANAGEMENT
by Shawn Deering, Livestock Specialist
Calf prices are extremely good and cow-calf producers are finally making money. Of course, prices need to be high to offset input prices nearly doubling over the past two years.
When calves are selling so well, it is tempting for producers to just pull calves straight off the cow and take them directly to the sale barn. Granted, they will bring a good price, but money will be left on the table by not doing the basic things that we know add value. Those things include castration of bull calves, vaccinations and weaning.
Most buyers prefer that calves have at least two rounds of shots and that is not just for clostridial (blackleg) protection. Respiratory vaccinations are extremely important to buyers. We used to recommend that calves be weaned for at least thirty days. That then
Casey’s Night at I-35 Speedway
By: Phillip Wilson Track Announcer
One hundred and ten cars (110) checked in for Casey’s night at the races at I-35 Speedway. It was also fan appreciation night with free general admission sponsored by Larry McFee Trucking, Racin Dirt, Hwy 36 Auto and Diesel and the Johnson’s.
We started out in the EMods as George Burnett added another win to his career stats, his first victory of 2023. Tony Layne battled with Burnett through the race but had to settle for second, while Chris Dishong has struggled at I-35 lately but would have a nice podium finish in third. Points leader Adam Dunwoodie put himself in a hole in his heat race as he had to start tenth, but would work his way up to a fourth place finish and Michael Hascall continues his quest to oust Dunwoodie out of the top spot as he finished right behind him in fifth.
third. Rookie Carter Johnson had his best finish as well, finishing fourth and Devin Baker would also have his best finish of the season in fifth.
Paul Glendenning would use a nice move with lap traffic to squeeze by points leader and race leader Houston Johnson to pick up his third win of the season in the Midwest Limited Late Models. Johnson would finish second, Tommy Cordray came home third followed by Bobby Ryan and Jake Morris.
Lonnie Farley picked up his third win of the season in the Vintage Open series as he passed and then held off three-time feature winner Ron Lefholz. Ron would finish second with Allen Guthrie third, Mike Lefholz fourth and Steve Tanner fifth.
bounded from an early spin to finish third, Chase Moulton had a good run in fourth and points leader Corey Myers came home fifth.
I-35 Speedway Medieval USRA Stock Car points leader Jeff Dixon changed the look of his car this week and parked it back in victory lane for the fourth time this season. Dixon had to get by leader Nic Hanes and Danny Holt to claim the victory then had to hold off Holt in the closing laps. Holt would finish second, Hanes third, Scott Brown came home fourth and Bill Carter had a good run in fifth.
as Mick would regain the lead on the outside in the closing laps. Hartman would finish second with Elijah Hoyt in the mix as well finishing third, Ryan Hinkle was fourth and Brad Aleshire fifth.
changed to forty-five days. Buyers now prefer calves that are longer weaned for as much as sixty to seventyfive days. Buyers know that calves receiving two rounds of shots on farm and that are weaned for an extended period of time tend to have less sickness and perform better when they arrive at their new location. It is also advised that the paperwork documenting the vaccinations and work that has been done on your calf crop accompany them to the auction.
The argument from producers is that they don’t seem to get any premium for going through the process of setting calves up for success. My argument is that by doing this you will certainly not receive any discounts!
In closing, it is important to continue to do the things that we know make your calves more attractive to buyers even when prices are at record levels.
In Pure Stock competition Jakub Hisel has been close many times to securing his first victory of the season. But as they say, close only counts in horseshoes and hand-grenades. Tonight, Hisel wouldn’t be denied as he cruised to his first win of 2023. Points leader Jeffrey Sears, after transmission issues in the heat race, would race his way up to finish second after starting fourteenth. Rookie driver Bo Eads would win his heat race then proceed to have his best finish of the season in
Stanley Kreisel picked up his second win of the season at I-35 Speedway in the Poweri Midwest Lighting Sprints. Jeff Bard would finish second, Mike Tindell third, the 2023 points champion Trice Roden would finish fourth and last season’s champion Chasity Younger was fifth.
By this time in the season Ethan Issacs usually has a few wins in the USRA B-Mods at I-35 Speedway. On this night Issacs would finally visit McCarthy Autogroup Victory Lane for the first time in 2023. Josh Barnes had a great night as he competed for victory finishing second, Lucas Issacs re-
Lee Hibner finally got his first USRA Modified win of 2023 as he held off a stout field of competition. At one point, Hibner would lose the lead to Houston Johnson only to gain it back and set sail. Darren Shaw gave chase to Hibner but finished second, Johnson would finish third followed by good runs in fourth for Tyler Grooms and fifth for Richard Layne.
Sport Compacts points leader Brad Mick held off Jonnathon Hartman in the closing laps to claim his eleventh victory of the season. Hartman would take the lead on the inside line
Grant Sheetz has been close to victory many times this season, but, on this night, would finally park his Jr Sport Compact in victory Lane for the first time in his career. Points leader Payton Hanes and Maddy Barr traded the lead back-and-forth until Sheetz made his move. Hanes would finish second with Barr in third. Katelynn Fleming came home fourth and Autumn Manley was fifth.
Congratulations to fan of the week winner Treyton Pritchett sponsored by Hartman Racing, Corey Myers Racing, David Oxford Racing, Tyler Grooms Racing, Hayes Racing, Keller Racing, Allen Racing, Kunze Racing, Fisk Family Racing, Hibner Racing, Johnson Motorsports, Dalton Strohl Racingand JDB Racing

Last Friday the Trenton High School Football team took on the undefeated Polo Panthers in a Homecoming GRC matchup. The Bulldogs started off the night right winning the coin toss and choosing to receive the ball first.
On the first drive of the night Gabe Novak was able to gain a couple yards. The Bulldog offense would gain two first downs before Polo was able to knock the ball out of their hands and make the recovery.
Polo would go on to make drives down the field gaining yards before making a twoyard touchdown. On their extra point attempt they faked an extra point kick, but their
two-point attempt was no good.
Polo would then kick the ball down the field into the hands of Cooper Houser. He would sprint down the field before losing the ball which then got picked up by Remi Olmstead who carried it down to the Polo 44-yard line. With several plays and a few flags to follow the Bulldogs would get in range for a 23-yard field goal which was kicked by M. Gonzales. This would put three points on the scoreboard for the Bulldogs.
Camden Skipper would then kick the ball downfield to Polo who returned the ball but was then stopped by Brayden Wiggins and Braydon
Holtzclaw. The Bulldogs defense had several tackles made stopping the Panthers from scoring the rest of the first quarter, the score 3-6 Polo.
At the beginning of the second quarter the Panthers were able to get a first down and score a touchdown extending their lead to 12.
The next kickoff Houser would return the ball and make it to the Trenton 33-yard line. Novak would get the first down after finding a hole provided by blockers. A pass from Mason Rongey to Devin Baker would get a second first down. The Bulldogs would continue to make short plays but eventually came up short of a first down turning the ball over to the Panthers.
Polo would start out on their own 11-yard line and was able to make their way down to the field. They then tried to make a passing play on fourth and 14 which was intercepted by Novak, who then ran it back down the field for a touchdown. With 45 seconds left on the clock Gonzales would kick the extra point through the uprights closing the gap between the scores.
game.
The third quarter of the game started with Trenton kicking an onside kick to stop Polo at their 33-yard line. Four plays later the Panther’s quarterback threw another interception pass which landed in the hands of Novak. The play ended quickly though after his helmet was stripped from his head.
Several carries by Novak would lead the Bulldog offense down the field. He would then make it down to the four-yard line and score a touchdown allowing Trenton to take the lead for the first time in the game.
The Bulldogs would play good coverage defense and force Polo to have their first punt of the night. Trenton would end the third quarter with possession of the ball.
Matthew Bowden would get the first down in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Novak would then carry the ball into the endzone for a 26yard touchdown. After Gonzales kicked the extra point, the Bulldogs extended their lead 23-12.
