In the northern hemisphere, it’s winter time when roots grow deeper and the trees prepare themselves for their next season of fruitfulness.
Let’s start to extend the roots of our progress to touch the underground streams of God and let’s wrap ourselves around the Word of God and the promises of Jesus, meditating and declaring them until we see them come to pass, when the season turns.
That’s you! It’s prep time. I find preparation always a bit boring, especially when you can see so little from it because it’s mostly ‘underground’. Yet, those that prepare well are those that present well when the season turns – more fruit, more height, more influence.
A bigger world awaits. Firstly under us, then over us.

Hope City Church is one church across 12 locations, with a 2020 goal of 25 locations. Dave and Jen pioneered its flagship location in Sheffield 25 years ago. We are a part of the C3 Church movement of around 500 churches worldwide, overseen by Phil and Chris Pringle from Sydney, Australia - with a goal of 1000 churches by 2020. JAN - MAR 2017

There was a moment recently when I caught my breath and realised that God had clearly commissioned our mercy ministry, City Hearts, to deliver a generation. There are moments in history and in the Word of God, where we read about this. However, it is seldom we realise we’re standing in the midst of a rescue mission, outworking the heart of God in a most profound way. Last year alone we had 588 people in our care. We worked with survivors, many highly traumatised and often with babies and children whose innocent years have been shattered. To hear the stories of women, men and children, some of whom were chained and forced into sexual slavery, is beyond heart-breaking. It compels us to action, to not shrink back but to develop what we do even further. This is our time, our time to realise our relevance, our opportunity and our day. Surely we have been called to the kingdom for such a time as this.

The Hit Factory is everything you’re called to create and everything you’re called to be a part of - it’s the Church alive, sparkling, and energised by Heaven to making disciples of all nations, releasing new, fresh anthems of God’s love onto the playlist of a generation. A number of years ago, on a Spotify live production, British singer/ guitarist James Bay recollected how one of his songs had taken two years to write - two years of no one hearing it, no one knowing about it and no one singing along. All he had was bits of tunes, unformed ideas and more la la la than actual lyrics. It’s the same with every one of us. Inside us all are strands of melodies - bits of revelation mixed with unrefined talent. Every one of us needs some help to pull it all together to move us into all we were created for. That’s what this book is about - redefining the Church as a place that pieces together your gifts and talents and infuses them with the wisdom and power of Heaven - a Church that creates Hit Makers that touch hearts and lives of people everywhere with the good news of Jesus Christ. The Psalmist put it this way -
The end result of the ‘new song’ that God places not just in your heart but in your mouth, is the conversion of many people rescued from darkness and putting their trust in Christ. In a world where turntables spin tunes of lostness and brokenness, everyone is waiting for your records of hope and peace. And it’s time to make those records. For me, it’s been a difficult journey in ‘the studio’ that should have taken a shorter time than it actually has. Much of my development has been through trial and error, rather than through being personally mentored and coached. I’ve had to find my own tunes and learn to discern the difference between my strengths and non-strengths as well as my strengths and weaknesses. I’ve had to relentlessly redefine myself, consistently allow God to break me and mould me, and learn first-hand what it is to walk in the rhythms of grace. I’m hoping that both my experiences and my downloads from heaven can help you in your journey of being a Hit Maker - accelerating you in your personal growth and maturity and help you create a Hit Factory, releasing thousands into their God given plans and purposes.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my
feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song
in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.
