Taking Innovation to a whole new level 26 years ago when we invented the Rambo® Turnout, I can remember thinking “where do we go from here”. We had created the perfect horse blanket that could not possibly be improved on. But the ideas just kept coming. First the Wug with the 'V' Front Closure System, then the Leg ArchesTM with the Removable Neck Cover, followed by the Rambo® Duo Liner System and most recently the Rambo® Split, a totally new way of approaching the assembly and production of the horse blanket as we know it.

Recently we decided to take our research to a whole new level of sophistication and invested in a state of the art thermal imaging camera. I have always been challenged to justify why horses should be blanketed and my response heretofore has had to be an empirical argument based on observation, logic and common sense but now with this fantastic technology we can demonstrate the effectiveness of the horse blanket. What we have discovered is both obvious and surprising!

Obvious, because we knew that the blanket kept the horse warm but we were surprised at how quickly and how dramatically the horse cooled once it was removed. Obvious because we understood the thermo dynamics, that heat rises but we were still surprised to discover that 80% of the heat loss was concentrated in 40% of the surface area of the blanket.

This stark realization has led us to introduce the new VARI-LAYER™ system into the RHINO® range for Autumn Winter 2012 (see page 16). By adding additional layers of a special “compression resistant” fiber in targeted areas we can increase the thermal values by 30% while reducing the weight by 20%. rapid heat loss - Horse less than 1 minute after removing a blanket.

NOT INVENTED HERE Although Horseware® is widely considered the most innovative company in the equestrian industry we have no problem embracing an idea that was not invented here. The Micklem Bridle (page 60-61) is a good example. When we decided to get into the bridle work business I quickly realized that William Micklem had already arrived where we were heading and we offered to work with him to commercialize his revolutionary design. It has taken a few years but this bridle has reached new heights and is now regularly being used by top riders like Rodrigo Pessoa, Luther Beerbaum, Mark Todd and Andrew Nicholson at the very top levels of competition.

How to Fit your Horseware® blanket B

Measure from (A) at the center point of the chest, over the high point of the shoulder, and to (B) at the rear of the hind leg. Rambo®, Rhino® and Amigo® blankets are sized in three inch increments. Amigo® Stock Horse is sized in two inch increments. If you measure between sizes, round down for Rambo® blankets and measure up for Rhino®, Amigo® and Amigo® Stock Horse blankets. When you have the measurement, choose the nearest from the table below. - Make sure that the tail is lifted over the fillet strap and that the strap is securely attached on both sides. This will prevent the blanket from blowing forward. Where possible pull the tail through the strapping on the inside of the tail flap. - When closing the surcingles on a blanket secure the middle one 1st and then cross over the 2 outer surcingles. Make sure the surcingle hangs at least 4 to 8 inches below the horse's belly.
