No Finer Life – A play

Cowfold Village Hall West Sussex Tel: 07774 970302 j.chamberlin@btinternet.com www.nofinerlife.co.uk Sunday 24th September 7.30pm At Cowfold Village Hall a play written by Archers agricultural editor Graham Harvey about the true story of two brothers whose vision inspired English farmers during WWII. Set in the Oxfordshire countryside at the end of WWII, rich in tradition and full of vivid, memorable characters. But this is no nostalgic, bucolic ramble. This is Elizabeth’s story... What inspires a young Somerset land girl to set off in search of a best selling author in the darkest days of war? The story moves between the 1940s and the current day, reflecting that the love of the countryside and the need to protect it are timeless. More details from the website www.nofinerlife.co.uk. After the show Graham Harvey himself will be discussing his passion for the Hendersons’ vision. Two brothers whose methods turned their small farm into one of the most productive in all of England. By the time of WWII, when embattled Britain faced starvation, farmers by the bus-load visited the little farm to see for themselves how farming might be done at a time of crisis... and, of course, his love of Ambridge and all things Archers...

Storrington Community Market

At Storrington Village Hall Every Friday 10am to 11.15am Tel: 01903 743888 www.storringtonmarket.co.uk There has been a thriving market in Storrington for more than 60 years. It started as a W.I. Market after the war when goods were scarce, and has gone through several changes since, including being part of the Country Markets organisation. It is now reborn as Storrington Community Market, a totally independent co-operative, run by volunteers, for the benefit of producers and the community. It gives an outlet to producers who have a small excess but possibly not enough to warrant a separate stall at a farmers market. Most of our goods are homemade or home-grown. In our market you will find: • cakes and savouries •preserves including local honey •eggs •vegetables and fruit •flowers and plants •craft items including cards •free-range pork from the local pig farm •bread from a local bakery •a refreshments area where many local residents meet for coffee and a chat. The quality of all our produce is controlled to a high standard with all cooks being required to have the relevant level of hygiene certificate.

Olives and Things

Tel: 01962 777770 jeremyphillips100@hotmail.com www.olivesandthings.co.uk We have been in business for 15 years, having noticed that most pre-marinated olives seemed to all taste the same. We set out to produce a freshly marinated olive, using our own grown herbs and chillies, therefore producing a fresher taste. Our products have been described as the best tasting olives by many of our customers (mail orders go to the USA and Australia). But it is in the Farmers’ Markets of Shoreham, Chichester, Midhurst, Petworth and Steyning as well as Singleton events, where we excel. We use mainly pitted olives, so that the flavours penetrate the olive. We also sell pickled chillies, pickled garlic, sundried tomatoes, stuffed vine leaves, butter beans in tomato sauce, mini gherkins, anchovy olives, Kalamata olives, roasted red peppers and dried Greek styled olives. At the Steyning Farmers Markets September 2nd and October 7th 2017 only, we will be offering 3 small pots of olives for £9. Please present this Guide when taking up the offer.
